Step 1: Lead-in
Review the cultural customs from the previous lessons.
Write adjectives like polite, formal, proper on the board and ask students: "What are the opposites of these words?" Introduce the topic: "Today we are going to learn how to form negative adjectives using prefixes and practice using vocabulary to talk about cultural customs."
Step 2: Vocabulary Presentation
Activity 2a: Write down the negative forms of adjectives
Have students look at the list of adjectives in 2a and write their negative forms using un-, im-, in-, ir-.
Explain the rules for choosing the correct prefix.
Step 3: Vocabulary Practice
Activity 2b: Complete the sentences with correct forms
Have students work individually to complete the 5 sentences in 2b using the correct forms of the adjectives in brackets.
Check answers in pairs and then with the whole class.
Activity 2c: Circle the correct words
Have students read the conversations in 2c and circle the correct words.
Explain the difference between -ed and -ing adjectives.
Activity 2d: Complete the passage with correct forms
Have students read the passage in 2d and fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words.
Check answers and explain any difficult phrases.
Step 4: Production & Extension
Pair work: Describe cultural customs
Divide students into pairs. Ask them to write 3 sentences about cultural customs using the negative adjectives and -ed/-ing adjectives learned in the lesson.
Have pairs share their sentences with the class.
Step 5: Summary & Homework
Review the rules for forming negative adjectives with un-, im-, in-, ir- and the difference between -ed and -ing adjectives.
Emphasize how these words help describe appropriate and inappropriate behavior in different cultures.
Step 6: Homework
Basic Level: Write the negative forms of 10 adjectives and use 5 of them in sentences.
Intermediate Level: Write a short paragraph about a cultural custom you find interesting, using at least one negative adjective and one -ed/-ing adjective.
Advanced Level: Create a dialogue between two people from different countries, using the target vocabulary to discuss cultural misunderstandings and advice.
