The Dead Sea is a unique natural wonder. It is one of the saltiest lakes in the world. Because of its high salt level, people can float (漂浮) on its surface easily without sinking (沉没). Why is the Dead Sea so salty? One reason is that it is about 430.5 meters below sea level. The water from the Jordan River flows into the Dead Sea. With no outlet (出口), the water evaporates (蒸发) under the hot sun, leaving salt behind.
When visiting the Dead Sea, you must be careful not to get the water into your eyes-it causes great pain. You also can’t drink the water because it’s too salty. Many people come here to put on the black mud (淤泥), which is said to be good for the skin.
However, the Dead Sea is getting smaller and smaller because of human activities. This makes many people worried. We should protect it so that future generations (一代人) can still enjoy this special natural wonder.

I think everyone has something they don’t like about themselves. For me, it was the birthmark (胎记) on my face. It was bright red, the color of a strawberry.
Sometimes, I felt people secretly (秘密地) looking at my face. But when I turned my head, they looked away. On buses and trains, it felt just like a disaster. With so many people around me, I always kept my hair long to cover it until that day.
It was a cloudy morning. A new student named Maddie arrived in our class. She sat right beside me. Instead of looking away, Maddie studied my face. This made me so nervous.
Clouds came through the window and filled my heart. Suddenly, she said something I would never forget. “Sally, right?” she said. “You have a red rose on your face. How beautiful!”
Her words touched me. I looked up and met her smiling eyes. Although I only replied “thank you”, it turned sunny in my heart. When I got home, I rushed to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. For the first time, I could look at my birthmark without quickly turning away. The shape of it was really like a flower. The next day, to my surprise, Maddie painted a red rose on her own face!
I have already learnt that I am what I am. Everyone has something special and different-that is what’s interesting.
32. What did Sally think of her birthmark at first?
A. It was beautiful. B. It made her upset.
C. It looked like a red rose. D. It was cool and special.
33. What does the underlined word “disaster” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Something wonderful. B. Something easy.
C. Something terrible. D. Something lucky.
34. Which one is the right order for the passage?
① Maddie said Sally’s birthmark was like a red rose.
② Sally always covered her birthmark with long hair.
③ Maddie painted a red rose on her own face.
④ Sally looked at her birthmark bravely in the mirror.
A. ②→①→④→③ B. ②→①→③→④
C. ①→②→④→③ D. ①→②→③→④
35. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce a new friend. B. To share a growth experience.
C. To explain how to make friends. D. To describe how a birthmark looks.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. B

第二段提到:“On buses and trains, it felt just like a disaster. With so many people around me, I always kept my hair long to cover it.”,被人注视让她不舒服并想遮盖,说明“disaster”在此指糟糕、痛苦的事情。C项“Something terrible.”正确。
【34题详解】
根据原文顺序:第二段末尾“always kept my hair long to cover it”对应②;第四段Maddie说“You have a red rose on your face”对应①;第五段“I rushed to the bathroom and looked in the mirror... could look at my birthmark without quickly turning away”对应④;第五段末尾“Maddie painted a red rose on her own face”对应③。因此正确顺序为②→①→④→③。
【35题详解】
全文讲述Sally因脸上胎记自卑,被新同学Maddie善意夸赞后慢慢接纳自己、学会正视自身不同的成长故事。
D
A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby after work. In fact, dancing has been seen as one of the best exercises to fight bad feelings.
Why is dancing so helpful? Dancing, moving the body to different kinds of music, helps the body produce more endorphins (内啡肽), a chemical (化学物质) that makes people feel relaxed and happy.
In a study, German scientists tested some patients under three conditions: dancing to music, only listening to music, and riding bikes without music. The results showed that the dancing group felt the least sad. This tells us that dancing is more than just moving around-it truly makes us excited.
▲ Studies show that depression (抑郁症) often has to do with sadness about the past or worries about the future. Dancing helps people focus on the present, connect with their bodies, and free their minds for a while, as reported by Psych Central, a mental health news website. When we dance, we stop thinking and start feeling. This makes it an excellent way to enjoy the present moment.
Lauren Helper, an American social worker, says dancing is a helpful way to reduce stress. “You don’t need to be a perfect dancer. Just turn on some music, move your body, and enjoy the moment. That’s the real magic of dance,” she told Psych Central.
36. What can help you the most when you are sad, according to the study?
A. Attending a concert. B. Talking to a friend.
C. Dancing to music. D. Riding a bike.
37. Why do people take up dancing after work?
A. To kill time. B. To learn new skills.
C. To make more friends. D. To fight against bad feelings.

A. But dancing is not only good for our bodies.
B. Dancing can also bring people closer.
C. Dancing also helps people forget bad feelings.
D. But dancing is not the only way to feel better.
39. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a benefit (益处) of dancing?
A. Helping the body produce more endorphins. B. Developing the creativity of a person.
C. Reducing stress through movement. D. Helping people free their minds.

例文:
Dear friends,
As middle school students, we often face small troubles that make us sad. But remember, a positive mind can turn challenges into growth.
Last week, I failed an important English exam. I felt really upset and didn’t want to talk to anyone. Later, I didn’t give up. I calmed down, reviewed my mistakes carefully and asked my English teacher for help. I also kept reading English every day.
From this experience, I learn that sadness can’t solve problems. We should face difficulties bravely and deal with them in positive ways. Don’t worry, just be happy.
Thank you for listening!

C. To explain how to make friends. D. To describe how a birthmark looks.

38. Which sentence can be put in the “▲” in the 4th paragraph?

At the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Eileen Gu, the Olympic freestyle skier, once again showed amazing moves in the air for the whole world. However, winning isn’t her only goal this time. She also wants to send an important message to young people, especially girls.
Gu started skiing at the age of three and joined her first team when she was seven. For many years, she was the only girl on her team. She says that some people doubt (质疑) women athletes and their ability to do well in sports. This has stopped many young girls from playing sports. But Gu disagrees. She believes that girls can do well in every sport. As a role model, she hopes her story will encourage girls to stay confident and be brave enough to try new things.
What’s her advice for her young fans? “Don’t be afraid to try,” she says. “A lot of the time, the thing that stops you is that little voice in your head: What if I’m not good enough? What if I lose face? What if someone laughs at me? But I promise you, you will never look back and regret (后悔) that you tried your hardest, that you did your best.
Gu tells us that confidence grows when we face our fears. So remember: Don’t let our fears snowball (滚雪球般迅速增大). Even if something seems scary at first, give it a try!
