In the past, people used natural materials to make their clothes. For example, they used animal fur (毛皮) to keep warm in cold weather. In the Middle Ages, clothes made from sheep wool (绵羊毛) were popular. 42 Only very rich people could wear silk and colorful clothes, as such clothes were expensive. 43 But we also use man-made materials, which are cheaper. Fleece (绒头织物) is a very special man-made material. It’s made from recycled plastic bottles. 44 Fleece is very warm and soft, and it’s also good for the environment because it helps reduce plastic waste. In the future, we might wear clothes made of smart materials. These materials have tiny sensors (传感器) inside them that can collect energy from our bodies. 45 For example, a T-shirt made of smart materials could keep a football player cool during a game. This would be very helpful for athletes and people who work in hot conditions. A.They can work for a long time with little energy. B.This kind of material was warm and easy to get. C.You only need 25 plastic bottles to make a sweater. D.And there are different clothing materials around us. E.Today, we still use many natural materials for our clothes. F.They are useful in helping people to keep a proper body temperature. G.Cotton is always popular for being comfortable and eco-friendly. 41.第一段开篇提到“clothes are necessary for people”,空1后引出“the development of clothing materials and a great achievement—man-made materials”。选项D“And there are different clothing materials around us.”(我们身边有不同的衣物材料)承接了衣物的必要性,自然过渡到后文对衣物材料发展的介绍,逻辑连贯。 42.第二段讲述过去的天然材料,前文提到“In the Middle Ages, clothes made from sheep wool were popular.”。选项B“This kind of material was warm and easy to get.”(这种材料保暖且容易获取)具体解释了绵羊毛衣物受欢迎的原因,与前文“sheep wool”呼应,补充了天然材料的特点。 43.第三段空3后为“But we also use man-made materials, which are cheaper.”,存在转折逻辑,需要先说明现在仍在使用天然材料的情况。选项E“Today, we still use many natural materials for our clothes.”(如今,我们仍使用很多天然材料做衣服)与后文的“also use man-made materials”形成转折,衔接自然。 44.第四段围绕人造材料“Fleece”展开,前文提到“It’s made from recycled plastic bottles.”。选项C“You only need 25 plastic bottles to make a sweater.”(制作一件毛衣只需要25个塑料瓶)具体举例说明了摇粒绒由塑料瓶制成的特点,与后文“reduce plastic waste”呼应,进一步体现其环保性。 45.第五段讲述未来的智能材料,前文提到“These materials have tiny sensors inside them that can collect energy from our bodies.”,后文举例“keep a football player cool during a game”。选项F“They are useful in helping people to keep a proper body temperature.”(它们有助于人们保持适宜的体温)概括了智能材料的功能,与后文的例子紧密衔接,解释了传感器的作用。 (共10小题,计15分) A http: //www.wss.edu.cn/events/inventioncompetition Sign in Join us home   About the school    Event    Contact Invention Competition CALLING ALL INVENTORS! But she does not use paper or canvas (画布) to create her art. She uses cookies. Cho, who is also a baker, said the sweet treats are the perfect platform for education, activism and healing. Cho has gained fans over the last several years for her detailed cookie faces. Actors Awkwafina, Daniel Dae Kim and Tamlyn Tomita are among those who have praised her cookie designs. The city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Cho has lived since 2009, even honored her with a “Jasmine Cho Day” in 2020. Back in 2016, Cho was busy making cookies for her online bakery, Yummyholic. She decorated cookies with faces for a friend’s birthday party. The cookies received attention on social media. Soon, others wanted her cookies, too. Cho grew up in Southern California and New Mexico. She always noticed when Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders were not represented in movies, television shows or even history books. It made her question her own sense of belonging in America. “That was always a pain point for me growing up,” said Cho. “So, I kind of always had this question: ‘I wonder if I could use this point of joy for me to address this pain point.’” Cookies, she said, were the answer. A few months after making her first cookie faces, Cho held her first showing. She made cookies of Asian-American Pittsburgh natives like actor Ming-Na Wen. She also made one of Leah Lizarondo, the founder of 412 Food Rescue. The organization decreases food waste in over 25 cities in the US and Canada by giving unsold food to people in need. Her art has taken her to interesting places. In 2019, she wrote and illustrated a children’s book, Role Models Who Look like Me. In the last few years, she has made over 20 virtual and in-person appearances at universities, elementary schools and conferences. She also leads cookie-decorating workshops. 49.What did Pittsburgh do for Cho? A.It established a special day for her. B.It invited her to settle there. C.It called on actors to visit her. D.It helped her with her business. 50.What’s the purpose of Cho’s art creation? A.To make her cookies more popular. B.To make Asian Americans more known. C.To fight for the rights of Asian Americans. D.To encourage Asian Americans to play in movies. 51.Which word best describes Cho? A.Honest. B.Warm-hearted. C.Active. D.Hard-working. 52.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.Famous People Appear on Cookies. B.Cookie Faces Are Used in Birthday Parties. C.Asian Americans Should Be Equal to Whites. D.Asian American Artist Creates Art with Cookies. 49.第二段指出:“The city of Pittsburgh...even honored her with a ‘Jasmine Cho Day’ in 2020.”,说明匹兹堡市为她设立了特别的日子。 50.第一段指出:“Cho paints images of both well-known and forgotten Asian Americans...the perfect platform for education, activism and healing.”,说明她的艺术创作目的是让亚裔美国人更广为人知。 51. C Think of the words in your head: that tasteless joke you wisely kept to yourself at dinner, your unvoiced impression of your best friend’s new hairstyle. Now imagine that someone could listen in. Recently, scientists from the University of Texas, have made another step in that direction. In a study published in Neuroscience, the team showed it was possible to read people’s thoughts with a brain scanner called fMRI and large language models (LLMs) built with GPT. The study centered on three subjects, who lay in an fMRI scanner recording their brain activity by noticing changes in blood flow in parts of their brains while they listened to online stories. By putting together this information with the LLMs’ ability to understand how words relate to one another, the researchers developed an encoded (编码的) map of how each individual’s brain responded to different words. Then, the team worked backward. They recorded the fMRI activity while the participants listened to a new story. Using a combination of the patterns encoded for each individual before and LLMs, the researchers attempted to translate this new brain activity. While many of the sentences it produced were inaccurate (不准确的), the decoder generated sentences that got the main idea of what the person was thinking. For example, when a person heard, “I don’t have my driver’s license yet,” the decoder produced, “She has not even started to learn to drive yet.” Alex Huth from the university said, “We were shocked and impressed that this worked as well as it does.” The researchers also found that the technology isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each decoder was quite personalized and worked only for the person whose brain data had helped build it. Additionally, a person had to voluntarily cooperate for the decoder to identify ideas. If a person wasn’t paying attention to an audio story, the decoder couldn’t pick that story up from brain signals. While the technology was still far from perfect, the result could finally lead to devices that help people who can’t talk or otherwise communicate easily. However, the research also raises privacy concerns about unwelcome neural overhearing. The team said the potential of the technology was such that policymakers should take action on how it can be legally used. Jerry Tang from the team said, “Nobody’s brain should be decoded without their permission. If one day it does become possible to get accurate decoding without a person’s will, we’ll have a set of rules in place.” 53.What is the study mainly about? A.The working method of a smart scanner. B.The possible effect of mind-reading GPT. C.The breakthrough in large language models. D.The advance in brain-decoding technology. 54.What can you learn from the passage? A.The researchers managed to use brain activity patterns to read the subjects’ minds. B.The decoder produced more correct sentences when the person got more attentive. C.The researchers fed the decoder data on people’s brain activities to produce signals. D.The team worked backward by recording the fMRI activity to check thinking ability. 55.What will the team most probably do next? A.Personalize the technology. B.Apply the technology across fields. C.Break limitations of the technology. D.Create proper rules to prevent misuse. 53.根据第二段“In a study published in Neuroscience, the team showed it was possible to read people’s thoughts with a brain scanner called fMRI and large language models (LLMs) built with GPT.” 54.根据第三段“By putting together this information with the LLMs’ ability to understand how words relate to one another, the researchers developed an encoded (编码的) map of how each individual’s brain responded to different words...the researchers attempted to translate this new brain activity.” 55.文章最后一段研究团队的表述“Nobody’s brain should be decoded without their permission. If one day it does become possible to get accurate decoding without a person’s will, we’ll have a set of rules in place”,团队接下来最可能制定合适规则防止技术滥用。 Our school will hold an English reading sharing meeting ________________. To protect the balance of the ecosystem, the government ____________ the problem. 的英文固定短语是set up a group to solve, set的过去式仍为set,符合句子逻辑及语境。 58. The underwater world was _______________________ I was totally attracted by it. 故填so amazing that。 59. After the string was broken, the kite made _____________________ and flew away. 【答案】by hand was out of control 【解析】原句中“手工做的”和“失控”是关键词,表示“手工制作”的短语是“made by hand”;表示“失控”的短语是“be out of control”,“flew”表明时态为一般过去时,主语为“the kite”,be动词用was。 60. _____________ that the Internet has influenced teenagers the most. “It is believed that...” 故填It is believed。 Ⅵ. (共10小题,计10分) our  as  value  however  recycle  act  produce  spread  proper  call When Sri was 10, he saw on the news that a lithium-ion battery (锂离子电池) had caused a huge fire. London was a busy city with horse-drawn carriages (马车). They often rushed into people and caused many accidents. At the same time, there was a fashion rule in London—women in red showed that they were married and green for unmarried. This gave people the idea for using red and green as traffic signs later. On December 10th, 1868, British railway engineer J. P. Knight designed the world’s first traffic light with only red and green. A policeman had to pull a belt (皮带) to change the lights: red meant “stop”, and green meant “go”. At first; it worked well and reduced accidents. However, this traffic light exploded (爆炸) after 23 days. The light was turned off, but the idea stayed alive. In 1914, electric traffic lights were first used in America. Red and green still did their jobs, then they were safer and easier to see. In 1920, a Chinese student named Hu Ruding was studying in the US. He noticed that drivers sometimes rushed when the light changed. “What if there’s a middle color to slow people down?” he thought. That’s how the yellow light was born, meaning “get ready to stop.” Around the same time, an American policeman named William Potts created the first three-color traffic lights for all directions. (共10小题,计15分) A http: //www.wss.edu.cn/events/inventioncompetition Sign in Join us home   About the school    Event    Contact Invention Competition CALLING ALL INVENTORS! B Jasmine Cho, an Asian-American artist, paints images of both well-known and forgotten Asian Americans. Our school will hold an English reading sharing meeting ________________. 57. To protect the balance of the ecosystem, the government ____________ the problem. 58. The underwater world was _______________________ I was totally attracted by it. 59. After the string was broken, the kite made _____________________ and flew away. 60. _____________ that the Internet has influenced teenagers the most.
