Lily and Maya had been best friends since the first grade. They did everything together, from sharing lunches to dreaming about their futures. Lily was active and loved exploring, while Maya was shy and liked quiet moments better. Their differences made their friendship strong.
One Saturday, they decided to explore a small forest near their town. Maya wore a simple bracelet (手镯) that Lily had made for her last birthday. “It’s my lucky mark,” Maya always said. Deep in the forest, they found a beautiful, hidden stream. While playing near the water, Maya’s bracelet slipped off her hand without her noticing.
It was only when they got home that Maya realized her bracelet was gone. Her eyes filled with tears. “It’s gone... your bracelet,” she said in a low voice, heartbroken. Lily gave her a hug (拥抱) at once. “Don’t worry. We’ll find it. I promise.”
The next morning, Lily went back to the forest alone. She went back to their whole path the day before, carefully checking every place. The forest seemed bigger and quieter. After searching for nearly two hours, just as she was about to give up, she saw a flash of color near the stream. There it was, lying safely there. She picked it up and held it softly.
Instead of returning the bracelet right away, Lily spent the afternoon making a new one, making two bracelets together with both of their favorite colors. That evening, she went to Maya’s house. “I have something for you,” Lily said. She first gave Maya the old bracelet. Then, she took out the new, connected pair. “This one is for us. So even if one gets lost, we’re still connected.”
Maya smiled, wearing both bracelets. She knew it wasn’t just about the bracelet. It was about the effort, the promise, and the understanding that true friendship means you never let the other person feel helpless and lonely.

Before you read this article, let’s take a look at the Chinese sentence on the right picture. Did you notice that some of the characters in the sentence are in the wrong order? You might not realize it, but you can read and understand it well, right?
If you didn’t catch it right away, you’re not alone. This is known as “typoglycmia”, where people can still understand disordered words as long as the first and last letters (or characters) are in place.
When we’re first learning how to read, we read word by word. But after we become more experienced, we read in full phrases and even sentences. People can read five to six words at one time, Also, as experienced readers, we take the things we’re familiar with for granted (理所当然). We don’t pay as much attention to small details (细节).
When we read something we’re familiar with, we may think all the words are in the right order. This is like when meeting a person with long hair, we think the person is a girl without taking a closer look.
★ . For example, you might still understand “belive” as “believe” or “tihs” as “this” at a quick look. It is believed that humans remember the meanings of words mostly by their shape and layout (布局), rather than the order of the letters. However, we cannot read disordered sentences as quickly as we read normal texts.
In short, our brains are amazing, but they can be a little lazy when dealing with words!
16. Why does the writer mention the Chinese sentence at the beginning?
A. To test readers’ Chinese level. B. To explain language rules.
C. To build reader’s national pride. D. To raise readers’ interest in the topic.
17. What is “typoglycemia”?
A. The skill to read very fast. B. The illness that makes reading difficult.
C. The ability to read disordered sentences. D. The problem of forgetting words easily.
18. Which of the following can be put in ★ ?
A. This also works with English words B. This problem is hard to solve
C. We should check spellings carefully D. All languages have the same rule
19. According to paragraph 3, how can people remember words better?
A. By reading word by word. B. By making word cards.
C. By writing words again and again. D. By reading word groups.
20. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How we can read quickly and correctly. B. Letter order is not important in reading.
C. Why we can still read disordered words. D. Experience makes reading more exciting.

Zhou Qi is a 19-year-old student from Hangzhou, Zhejiang. In September, 2023, he broke the Guinness (吉尼斯) World Record for the most single skips (跳绳) in one minute, with a result of 374. The record had stood unbroken for ten years. Daisuke Mimura from Japan held it with 348 skips in 2013.
Interestingly, Zhou’s new record is not even his personal best. “My best performance was 396 times in one minute. That was done in the 2nd Primary and Secondary School Students’ rope skipping Championship in 2020. My coach said I had already broken the world record. It was at that time that I made up my mind to apply for the Guinness World Record,” Zhou said.
However, the road to success was far from smooth. For years, Zhou practised with a special steel rope designed for competition. It’s light and strong. But because of the rope he used, his first Guinness application was considered invalid (无效). After online communication with the records management team, Zhou quickly changed to a common rope recognized (认证) by the Guinness World Records. He soon got used to it.
Whatever kind of rope Zhou used, his strict training kept him in good sporting condition. Zhou has been in the school rope skipping team for seven years. He has jumped rope for about four hours each day. He would also run around the playground to improve his physical strength.
Now as a high school student, Zhou said he’ll put his studies first. But he won’t stop training and still hopes to beat his own record one day.

根据“This is known as ‘typoglycemia’, where people can still understand disordered words as long as the first and last letters (or characters) are in place.”可知,“typoglycemia”是指人们能够读懂顺序混乱单词的能力。故选C。
【18题详解】
推理判断题。根据空后例子“you might still understand ‘belive’ as ‘believe’ or ‘tihs’ as ‘this’”(英文单词的例子),结合前文讲中文句子的情况,可知此处应衔接“这种现象也适用于英文单词”。故选A。
【19题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“When we’re first learning how to read, we read word by word. But after we become more experienced, we read in full phrases and even sentences. People can read five to six words at one time”可知,通过阅读词组(word groups)能更好地记忆单词。故选D。
【20题详解】
主旨大意题。文章围绕“为什么顺序混乱的单词仍能被读懂”展开,结合“This is known as ‘typoglycemia’, where people can still understand disordered words...”及后文对大脑阅读习惯的解释,可知文章主要说明我们能读懂混乱单词的原因。故选C。

根据link to each other(相互连接)可知,房间之间没有走廊隔开。with表示有,与句意相反。故选B。
