George Meegan was a great British explorer and teacher. He is most famous for finishing the longest walk without stopping in history.
From 1977 to 1983, he walked all the way from the far south of South America to the far north of North America. This amazing trip was about 30,000 kilometres long. That’s almost as far as walking around three-quarters of the Earth!
This journey was a huge test for anyone. He went through very difficult places: hot, dry deserts, thick and wet rainforests, cold mountains, and snowy wild areas. He met dangerous animals and often didn’t have enough food to eat. He didn’t have modern tools like a GPS (全球定位系统), no special equipment (装备), and no one to help him. He only used his own strong will and clever thinking to keep going. The problems were not only about his body. He also felt very lonely and missed his home. But he never stopped.
Later, Meegan wrote a book about his experience named The Longest Walk. His story is about facing the hardest conditions on our planet and seeing how far he could push himself.
59. How long did George Meegan’s trip last?
A. About 3 years. B. About 6 years. C. About 8 years. D. About 10 years.
60. What do we know about the journey according to paragraph 3?

Smartphones and social media have completely changed how teenagers get information and enjoy stories. A recent survey shows 85% of junior high students read e-books or online articles every day, while only 30% read paper books often.
Many Z-generation readers prefer digital reading. They read short passages on WeChat and stories on apps This kind of reading is fast and convenient. Students can read anytime: on the way to school, during breaks, or before bed.
However, not all teenagers love digital reading. “I like the feeling of turning pages and sitting quietly with a book,” says 14-year-old Li Mei. “Paper books help me focus better and think more deeply. I’m not influenced by messages or pop-ups (消息弹窗).” Many teachers and parents agree: deep reading from paper helps improve thinking skills.
Experts say both forms have their advantages. “The best way is to balance both,” says Dr. Wang, an education expert. “Use digital tools for news and fun reads, and pick up paper books for classic stories and serious topics.”
What matters most is not the form, but whether reading opens our eyes and brings us joy. As long as we keep reading, we keep learning and growing.
62. What can we learn from paragraph 1?
A. 85% read paper books often. B. 30% read online articles daily.
C. Social media changed reading habits. D. Teenagers read like their parents.
63. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to (指的是)?
A. Z-generation readers. B. Parents.
C. Teachers. D. Experts.
64. Why does the writer mention Li Mei’s words?
A. To show teenagers love digital reading.
B. To tell us some students prefer paper books.
C. To teach us how to read e-books well.
D. To explain why students love short videos.
65. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. Advantages of Paper Books B. Use of Smartphones
C. Different Forms of Reading D. Troubles of Digital Reading
C 63. A 64. B 65. C
第一段第二句明确写道:“Smartphones and social media have completely changed how teenagers get information and enjoy stories.”,智能手机和社交媒体完全改变了青少年获取信息和享受故事的方式,选项C正确。
第二段第一句“Many Z-generation readers prefer digital reading.”和第二句“They read short passages on WeChat...”,代词“they”显然指代前一句的“Z-generation readers”。
第三段开头“However, not all teenagers love digital reading.” A(证明青少年喜欢数字阅读):与文意相反;C(教如何读电子书):文中未提及;D(解释为什么学生喜欢短视频):文中未提及。
D
In our social lives, many of us find it very difficult to say “no” to others. Whether it is a friend asking for help or a teammate asking you to do more work, the word “yes” often comes out of our mouths before we even think. We worry that saying “no” will hurt people’s feelings and our relationships. Psychologists (心理学家) call this “people-pleasing” behavior, and while it seems kind, it can actually be quite harmful.
Always saying “yes” can lead to a lot of hidden problems. First, it causes lots of stress. When you take on too many tasks that you don’t actually want to do, you feel tired. Second, it stops you from focusing on your own growth. Every time you say “yes” to something unimportant, you are actually saying “no” to your own aims.
Of course, the way you say “no” matters a lot. You don’t have to be cold or mean. You can refuse politely by saying, “I’d love to help, but I’m afraid I have too much on my plate right now,” or “Thank you for thinking of me, but I can’t make it this time.”
In conclusion, by learning to say “no” to the wrong things, you finally create the space to say “yes” to the right ones.
66. How does the author like “people-pleasing” behavior?
A. Kind. B. Interesting. C. Boring. D. Harmful.
67. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Problems of always saying “yes”. B. Ways of refusing others politely.
C. Importance of asking for help. D. Reasons for helping others.
68. If you want to refuse someone politely, which of the following can you say?
A. “I don’t want to help you at all.”
B. “It’s none of my business.”
C. “I’d love to, but I am too busy now.”
D. “Ask someone else, I’m not interested.”
D 67. A 68. C
第1段中提到“Psychologists call this ‘people-pleasing’ behavior, and while it seems kind, it can actually be quite harmful.”
第2段开头中介绍“Always saying ‘yes’ can lead to a lot of hidden problems.”,随后列举了总是说“是”带来的两个问题:压力大 (stress) 和阻碍个人成长 (stops you from focusing on your own growth)。 A“Problems of always saying ‘yes’.”正确。
第3段中介绍“You can refuse politely by saying, ‘I’d love to help, but I’m afraid I have too much on my plate right now.’”,说明礼貌拒绝可以先表示愿意帮助,但是目前因为什么事情没办法帮助,所以选项C“‘I’d love to, but I am too busy now.’”
E
Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) are often called the “rainforests of the sea” because they are full of life. Although they cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, they are home to about 25% of all sea animals.
For millions of people around the world, these reefs are very important. They provide plenty of fresh seafood for local people and create many jobs through tourism. Also, they act like a wall under the water to protect coasts from big waves and storms. Without reefs, low-lying countries like the Maldives could be flooded easily.
But today, coral reefs are in great danger. Rising sea temperatures are the biggest problem. Even a small rise in water temperature can harm them. When the water gets too warm, corals lose the colorful algae (海藻). Without them, the corals turn white and may die. This is called “bleaching”. Besides, plastic waste and overfishing also hurt the reefs. Some scientists believe that half of the world’s coral reefs could disappear by 2030 if we do not act now.
What can we do to save them? Governments should make stricter rules to cut pollution and stop overfishing. Setting up special areas to protect sea life is also a good way. For us, we can help by using less plastic and supporting eco-friendly travel. Every small action can make a big difference.
69. How do coral reefs protect coasts?
A. By creating many jobs. B. By acting like a wall.
C. By providing fresh seafood. D. By covering the ocean floor.
70. What is the biggest problem to coral reefs?
A. Plastic waste. B. Overfishing. C. Rising sea temperatures. D. Ocean pollution.
71. What does the word “bleaching” mean in the text?
A. Growing fast. B. Turning white. C. Getting warm. D. Appearing quickly.
72. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To call for the protection of coral reefs.
B. To explain plastic waste harms fish.
C. To introduce the beautiful Maldives.
D. To show that only governments can save the oceans.
B 70. C 71. B 72. A
第二段明确指出:“Also, they act like a wall under the water to protect coasts from big waves and storms.”,珊瑚礁像一堵墙一样保护海岸,B项为同义表达。
第三段明确说:“Rising sea temperatures are the biggest problem.”,海水升温是最大问题。
第三段解释了白化过程:海水变暖导致珊瑚失去彩色藻类,“Without them, the corals turn white and may die. This is called ‘bleaching’.”,因此 bleaching意为“变白”。

A little bird named Lulu lived in a tall tree near a small river. Every morning, as the sun rose, she flew to the river to drink fresh water and look for small seeds to eat. The river was her only water source (来源), and a smooth stone by the bank was her safe standing place, just right for her small body.
One night, a heavy rain came with strong winds. The next morning, Lulu was shocked to find the river had risen high. She tried several times to get closer but feared falling into the river. Lulu felt worried and flew around the river anxiously (焦虑地), trying to find a safe way to get water.
She first saw a thin branch (树枝) on the water, but it was too weak to hold her. Then she noticed big, thick, dry leaves by the bank, strong enough to support her light body. A clever idea hit her. She picked three large leaves, put them together, and tied them tightly with thin grass to make a “leaf boat”.
Lulu took a deep breath and carefully stood on the leaf boat. She used her wings to push the water gently, and the boat moved slowly to the clear area of the river. She drank enough water happily and even found some small seeds in the water. After drinking, she pushed the boat back to the bank safely.

For Generation Z (Z 世代)—people born between 1996 and 2010—reading looks very different from how it did for their parents.

70. What is the biggest problem to coral reefs?

72. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To call for the protection of coral reefs.
B. To explain plastic waste harms fish.
C. To introduce the beautiful Maldives.
D. To show that only governments can save the oceans.
