Around one-fifth of Asia is made up of island nations. Below is an introduction to four of them. Brunei Size: 5,765 square kilometers Population: 433,285 The Nation of Brunei, officially known as the Abode of Peace, is a rich state on the north coast of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It has 161 kilometers of coastline along the South China Sea and shares a 381-kilometre border with Malaysia. Most of the country lies within the Borneo lowland rainforests area. Philippines Size: 300,000 square kilometers Population: 108.1 million The islands of the Philippines are actually the tops of a huge mountain range, most of which is covered by the ocean. Made up of over 7,000 islands, it is the world’s fifth largest island country, and its 36,289 kilometre coastline makes it the country with the fifth longest coastline globally. Maldives Size: 298 square kilometres Population: 530,953 As the smallest country in Asia, the Maldives is a tropical archipelago (群岛) in the Indian Ocean, consisting of about 1,190 low-lying coral islands. However, rising sea levels, expected by the World Bank to increase by 10 to 100 centimeters by 2100, could eventually cover the entire country, threatening people’s lives. Sri Lanka Size: 65,610 square kilometers Population: 21.4 million Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. It occupies a strategic position near major Indian Ocean shipping lanes and is the world’s 25th largest island by area. Historically, it was connected to the Indian mainland by a land bridge, much of which is now underwater. 1. What can we learn about the Philippines? A. It is threatened by rising sea levels. B. It consists of more than 7,000 islands. C. It is connected to the Indian mainland. D. It is the smallest island country in Asia. 2. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage? A. Of the four countries, Brunei has the smallest size. B. The Philippines boasts the world’s fourth longest coastline. C. Rising sea levels will cover the Maldives in the coming years. D. Sri Lanka was referred to as Ceylon in the past. 3. Where is the text probably taken from? A. A news report. B. A travel brochure. C. A geography magazine. D. A research paper. B 2. D 3. 根据Philippines部分中的“Made up of over 7,000 islands, it is the world’s fifth largest island country, and its 36,289 kilometre coastline makes it the country with the fifth longest coastline globally. (由七千多个岛屿组成,它是世界第五大岛国,36289公里的海岸线使其拥有全球第五长的海岸线。)”可知,菲律宾由七千多个岛屿组成。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Sri Lanka部分中的“Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean.(斯里兰卡旧称锡兰,是印度洋上的一个岛国。)” 根据第一段中的“An island country refers to a nation which consists of one or more islands completely surrounded by water. Around one-fifth of Asia is made up of island nations. Below is an introduction to four of them.(岛国是指由一个或多个四面环海的岛屿组成的国家。亚洲约五分之一的区域由岛国构成,下文介绍其中四个。)”可知,文章科普亚洲岛国地理概况、面积人口与区位特征,内容偏向地理知识介绍,最有可能选自地理杂志。 B For more than 30 years, Fang Beisong, an expert at repairing old objects at Jingzhou Museum, has worked to make ancient words on bamboo and wooden pieces readable again. These pieces are called jiandu. One special moment came in 2015. While cleaning a bamboo piece from the Warring States Period, he found the words for “hold your hand and grow old with you”, a line from The Book of Songs. “I felt the light and warmth of our history and culture,” Fang recalled. After finishing his studies in chemistry in 1988, Fang began working at the museum, using science for his love of history. He focuses on jiandu — things people wrote on before paper was used. In 2002, he faced a huge task — over 92,000 pieces from the Qin Dynasty were found in Hunan. He stayed in Changsha for nine years, working 12 hours a day to sort out and protect them. Preserving jiandu is extremely difficult. They are made of natural materials and break down easily. Once unearthed, they quickly turn black in the air, making the writing unreadable. Fang’s repair work involves over 20 steps, with decoloring and dewatering being the most important. Decoloring brings back the original (原来的) color and keeps the words clear, while dewatering helps them leave the wet condition and stay steady for keeping. After years of trying, he found a good two-step way and won a national technology prize in 2019. Each case is different. In 2020, his team worked on Han Dynasty bamboo pieces from a robbed tomb in Dingzhou. The pieces broke easily. They tried over 70 times to keep them together. Even though the writing was almost impossible to see, a special camera using infrared (红外线的) light showed the words clearly. So far, Fang and his team have fixed over 100,000 pieces. “For things like these, once they are dug up, there’s only a short time to save them. I cannot stop — the faster I work, the more of our history I can save,” said Fang. 4. How did Fang feel when he saw the line from The Book of Songs? A. Moved. B. Bored. C. Shocked. D. Confused. 5. What do we know about Fang’s work in Changsha after 2002? A. He got a national award right after. B. He solved all preservation issues there. C. He worked long hours to preserve jiandu. D. He went there to study Qin Dynasty history. 6. What does the underlined word “decoloring” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Washing the surface to remove dirt. B. Changing the color of jiandu. C. Preventing jiandu from turning black. D. Recovering the true color. 7. What lesson can we learn from Fang’s story? A. More haste, less speed. B. Time and tide wait for no man. C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. A 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第二段中的“While cleaning a bamboo piece from the Warring States Period, he found the words for “hold your hand and grow old with you”, a line from The Book of Songs. “I felt the light and warmth of our history and culture,” Fang recalled.(在清理一枚战国时期的竹简时,他发现了《诗经》中“执子之手,与子偕老”的文字。方北松回忆道:“我感受到了我们历史文化的光芒与温暖。”)”可知,方北松看到这句诗经中的文字时,感受到了历史文化的光芒与温暖,内心受到了触动。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“In 2002, he faced a huge task — over 92,000 pieces from the Qin Dynasty were found in Hunan. He stayed in Changsha for nine years, working 12 hours a day to sort out and protect them. (2002年,他迎来了一项艰巨的任务——湖南出土了九万两千多枚秦代简牍。他在长沙待了九年,每天工作十二个小时,对这些简牍进行整理和保护。)”可知,2002年后方北松在长沙为了整理和保护秦代简牍,度过了九年每天十二小时的工作时光。故选C项。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段中的“Fang’s repair work involves over 20 steps, with decoloring and dewatering being the most important. Decoloring brings back the original (原来的) color and keeps the words clear, while dewatering helps them leave the wet condition and stay steady for keeping.(方北松的修复工作包含二十多个步骤,其中decoloring和脱水是最为重要的。Decoloring能恢复简牍原本的颜色,让文字保持清晰,而脱水能让简牍脱离潮湿状态,保持稳定以便保存。)”可知,简牍出土后会变黑,而decoloring是修复的关键步骤,且该步骤的作用是让简牍恢复原本的颜色、让文字清晰,结合“de-”的前缀含义及上下文的修复背景可知,该词的意思是“恢复事物的真实原本颜色”。故选D项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Preserving jiandu is extremely difficult. They are made of natural materials and break down easily. Once unearthed, they quickly turn black in the air, making the writing unreadable.(简牍的保护工作难度极大。它们由天然材料制成,极易损坏。一旦出土,在空气中会迅速变黑,导致文字无法辨认。)”和“After years of trying, he found a good two-step way and won a national technology prize in 2019.(经过多年的尝试,他研究出了一套有效的两步法修复方案,并在2019年获得了国家技术奖项。)”、第五段中的“In 2020, his team worked on Han Dynasty bamboo pieces from a robbed tomb in Dingzhou. The pieces broke easily. They tried over 70 times to keep them together.(2020年,他的团队修复定州一座被盗古墓出土的汉代竹简,这些竹简极易破碎,团队尝试了七十多次才将其拼接完整。)”以及第六段中的“So far, Fang and his team have fixed over 100,000 pieces.(到目前为止,方北松和他的团队已经修复了逾十万枚简牍。)” C Have you ever seen an animal video online that made you stop and wonder? Videos showing a wolf taking care of a rabbit, or a lion walking calmly through a small town are now spreading widely. This is possible because of AI technology. However, scientists warn such popular videos may hurt real wildlife protection and spread wrong ideas about nature. A study in Conservation Biology points out that AI-generated animal videos create an untrue world, leading to wrong ideas about animal behavior and widening the gap between people and nature. Co-author José Guerrero-Casado stresses the danger of false (虚假的) information. For example, videos showing birds killing “bad” snakes might make people less willing to protect snakes, and create false ideas about animals that are already in danger. The effect on children is especially worrying. These videos can give them wrong ideas about how people and animals really get along. When children discover that real-world animals do not act as they do in these made-up videos, it can have the opposite result, finally making them feel less connected to nature. This risk grows as young people increasingly turn to social media for information. So, how can one recognize these videos? Experts suggest looking for a few signs: unnatural animal movements that appear too smooth or seem impossible in real life; light and shadows that do not look quite right; and small details like fur or feathers that appear unclear or repeat in an unusual way. To deal with these risks, the research team suggests putting more effort into education, like teaching media literacy (素养) in schools. As another co-author Francisco Sánchez says, the goal is to make sure “children learn early that there are no lions living here.” While they think this is important, the researchers also say that school lessons alone cannot stop the spread of false information made by AI. This leads to an important question about who else in society needs to help solve this problem, if school education is not enough. 8. How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph? A. By giving examples. B. By making a comparison. C. By quoting an expert. D. By sharing an experience. 9. What can be inferred about AI-generated animal videos? A. They make children love animals less. B. They mainly focus on species in danger. C. They may make animals seem dangerous. D. They create a false understanding of nature. 10. According to paragraph 4, which is most probably an AI-generated video? A. A parrot with clear feathers. B. A cat with natural shadows. C. A dog with unusual marks. D. A frog with extremely smooth jumps. 11. What will the author most probably discuss next? A. The media literacy lessons. B. The duties of social media. C. The popularity of such videos. D. The threats to wildlife protection. A 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第一段“Have you ever seen an animal video online that made you stop and wonder? Videos showing a wolf taking care of a rabbit, or a lion walking calmly through a small town are now spreading widely. This is possible because of AI technology. (你是否曾在网上看到过某个动物视频,让你不禁驻足思考?比如有视频展示一只狼在照顾一只兔子,或者一只狮子在平静地穿过一个小城镇的画面,如今这类视频正广泛传播开来,这得益于人工智能技术)”可知,作者通过列举这两个具体的视频例子来引出AI生成动物视频这一话题。故选A。 根据第二段“A study in Conservation Biology points out that AI-generated animal videos create an untrue world, leading to wrong ideas about animal behavior and widening the gap between people and nature. (《保护生物学》杂志的一项研究指出,AI生成的动物视频创造了一个不真实的世界,导致人们对动物行为产生错误认知,并扩大了人与自然之间的隔阂)”及第三段“The effect on children is especially worrying. These videos can give them wrong ideas about how people and animals really get along. (对儿童的影响尤其令人担忧。这些视频会让他们对人与动物的真实相处方式产生错误认识)”可知,这类视频会让人们对自然产生错误的理解。故选D。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“So, how can one recognize these videos? Experts suggest looking for a few signs: unnatural animal movements that appear too smooth or seem impossible in real life; light and shadows that do not look quite right; and small details like fur or feathers that appear unclear or repeat in an unusual way. (那么,如何才能辨别出这些视频呢?专家建议寻找一些迹象:留意一些异常的动物动作,这些动作看起来过于流畅,而在现实生活中是不太可能出现的;还要留意光线和阴影的分布是否不太自然;还有一些细微之处,比如毛发或羽毛的呈现不够清晰,或者呈现出一种不寻常的重复现象)”可知,“极其流畅的跳跃”属于AI生成视频的典型特征。故选D。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“This leads to an important question about who else in society needs to help solve this problem, if school education is not enough. (如果学校教育还不够,这就引出了一个重要问题:社会上还有谁需要帮助解决这个问题)”可知,作者接下来最有可能讨论除了学校之外,其他社会主体(如媒体、政府等)的责任。“The duties of social media. (社交媒体的责任)”属于社会主体责任的范畴。故选B。 D Learning to play an instrument seems to improve reading skills in young children by enhancing their ability to recognize and use the sounds that make up words. Music training has long been linked to improved early reading abilities, but how it does this wasn’t clear. To find out more, Maria Garcia-de-Soria at the University of Aberdeen, UK, and her colleagues studied 57 children, aged 5 to 9, with roughly equal numbers of boys and girls. About half had been learning an instrument for at least a month and were practising for a minimum of half an hour a week, while the rest did non-musical extracurricular activities. They found that children who were learning an instrument outperformed the others on tests of phonological (语音的) awareness. This is the ability to recognize and use the sounds that form words. They also showed better reading skills. The team controlled for factors that can influence literacy — the ability to read and write, such as socioeconomic status and general cognitive ability. In the study, the researchers used EEG — electroencephalography (脑电图). To record the children’s brain activity as they listened to a recording of The Gingerbread Man fairy tale. They found that stronger neural activity in language-related centers of the left hemisphere (半球) of the brain was connected with better reading outcomes for all the children. However, the musical group showed higher reading scores even with lower levels of this brain activity, which may mean they have more adult-like processing of language. “Adults tend to use both sides of the brain to process music and speech, and sometimes more on the right hemisphere. The musically trained children seem to have a more adult-like tracking of speech,” says Garcia-de-Soria. “The finding that musical training improves the left hemisphere phonological encoding processes of language is in agreement with the broader literature (文献),” says Alice Mado Proverbio at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Italy. However, music training can also lead to changes in the right hemisphere of the brain, promoting faster reading, she says. 12. What can we learn about the children in the study? A. Most were under 6 years old. B. Few girls could play an instrument. C. Around half received music training. D. More boys participated in the study. 13. What does the underlined word “outperformed” mean in Paragraph 2? A. Did worse than. B. Did better than. C. Was equal to. D. Had nothing to do with. 14. What can we infer about the musically trained children? A. They processed speech less effectively than adults. B. They had a speech-processing mode similar to adults. C. They performed worse in reading than non-musical children. D. They showed higher brain activity than non-musical children. 15. What does Proverbio say about music training? A. It has no significant impact on both sides of the brain. B. It influences both hemispheres to improve reading skills. C. It only affects the left hemisphere’s language processing. D. It mainly changes the right hemisphere to enhance reading. C 13. B 14. B 15. 根据第二段中“About half had been learning an instrument for at least a month and were practising for a minimum of half an hour a week, while the rest did non-musical extracurricular activities.(大约一半的人学习乐器至少一个月,每周至少练习半小时,而其余的人则参加非音乐类的课外活动)”可知,研究中的孩子有一半接受了音乐方面的训练,故选C。 根据划线词下文“This is the ability to recognize and use the sounds that form words. They also showed better reading skills.(这是一种识别和使用构成单词的声音的能力。他们也表现出更好的阅读能力)”中的“also”可知,他们在语音意识测试中应是表现出色,故outperformed指“超过,胜过”,故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“However, the musical group showed higher reading scores even with lower levels of this brain activity, which may mean they have more adult-like processing of language.(然而,音乐组表现出更高的阅读分数,即使大脑活动水平较低,这可能意味着他们的语言处理更像成年人)”和第四段中“Adults tend to use both sides of the brain to process music and speech, and sometimes more on the right hemisphere. The musically trained children seem to have a more adult-like tracking of speech(成年人倾向于使用左右脑来处理音乐和语言,有时更多地使用右脑。受过音乐训练的孩子似乎更像成年人)”可知,接受音乐训练的孩子的语音处理模式与成年人相似,故选B。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段““The finding that musical training improves the left hemisphere phonological encoding processes of language is in agreement with the broader literature (文献),” says Alice Mado Proverbio at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Italy. However, music training can also lead to changes in the right hemisphere of the brain, promoting faster reading, she says.(意大利米兰-比可卡大学的Alice Mado Proverbio说:“音乐训练可以改善语言左半球的语音编码过程,这一发现与更广泛的文献一致。”然而,她说,音乐训练也可以导致大脑右半球的变化,促进更快的阅读。)”可知,音乐训练会影响左右脑来提高阅读能力,故选B。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 With each book you read, your mind expands, your vocabulary grows, and your imagination gets a good exercise. But many people find themselves reading fewer books than they want. ____16____ Keep a book on you. One of the best ways to make sure you’re reading as much as possible is to have a book on you at most (or all!) times. ____17____ Maybe it’s while you wait in line to get a coffee. Or while you wait for your bus. Basically, any time you would pull your phone out and scroll, you can pull your book out and read it. ____18____ How much you should read a day is up to you, but giving yourself a small daily goal will help you keep your reading habit, especially during busier days. I suggest a sweet-spot of 20 minutes per day. Sure, if you are able to read more during a day, just go for it. Don’t be afraid to quit. It happens to most of us. We pick up a book with the intention of finishing it in no time, but the story is just not for us. The main character may be unlikable. ____19____ Whatever the reason, we just don’t want to keep reading it. And that’s okay. When you just aren’t into a book, you should 100% quit reading it. Find a reading community. ____20____ They allow you a space to dive deeper into what you’re reading about. Finding a reading community is easier than you think. Aside from the countless reading groups on the internet, many local bookstores and libraries host book clubs of their own. It’s really nice to meet people who enjoy the same hobbies as you. A. Set a daily goal. B. Read as much as possible. C. It’s of great importance to choose a good book. D. Here are a few tips to help you read more books. E. Or the language may be too difficult to understand. F. There are many occasions when you have the opportunity to read. G. Things like book clubs are a great way to encourage you to keep reading. 16. D 17. F 18. A 19. E 20. More than 200 students took part in the activity, guided by our English teachers. The exhibition presented traditional crafts such as paper-cutting, shadow puppetry and sugar painting with the help of modern technologies. Through VR headsets, we experienced ancient workshops, while AI screens showed how masters create their works step by step. The most impressive part was the AR interaction—we “painted” virtual sugar art on tablets, with the effect vividly simulating real molten sugar. This activity bridged tradition and technology, deepening our love for intangible cultural heritage and inspiring us to protect it with innovation. 词汇积累: 参加:take part in→be involved in/attend/participate in 展示:present→show/exhibit 热爱:love→enthusiasm 激励:inspire→stimulate/fuel 2. More than 200 students took part in the activity, guided by our English teachers. More than 200 students took part in the activity, which was guided by our English teachers. 1】Last Friday, our school organized a visit to the City Science Museum, where an exhibition themed “Modern Technology and Intangible Cultural Heritage” was held.(运用了where引导非限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】This activity bridged tradition and technology, deepening our love for intangible cultural heritage and inspiring us to protect it with innovation.(运用了现在分词作状语) 第二节(满分25分) 47. Mrs. Harrington seemed to be a very secretive woman. From the moment I moved into the neighborhood, she had been distant, almost to the point of being rude, to me. She avoided eye contact and brushed off any attempt at conversation. Every day, without fail, she would head to an old tent located about 20 feet from her house at 9 am and again at 9 pm. She always carried two shopping bags and would disappear inside the tent for about 20 minutes before returning to her house. One afternoon, while out for a walk, I accidentally wandered close to the tent. The moment Mrs. Harrington noticed me approaching, she rushed out, her voice sharp and urgent, “Stay away! Otherwise, I’ll call the police!” Startled, I began to apologize, trying to explain that I meant no harm. But she cut me off with another outburst, demanding that I leave immediately. Her tone was so firm and unfriendly that I knew arguing would be pointless. I turned and walked home, but her jumpy behavior and the panic in her eyes left me deeply unsettled, Determined to uncover the truth, I decided to investigate. One night, after ensuring Mrs. Harrington was inside her house with all the lights off, I slipped out of my front door and approached the tent. Reaching the tent, I spotted a small gap in the wooden door, just big enough to look through. I hesitated for a moment but finally pressed my nose against the door and looked inside. It was very dark. But as my eyes adjusted, I nearly passed out at what I saw. Inside the tent were dozens of dogs and they were nothing more than skin and bones! What was going on here? Were they being mistreated by her? Without thinking, I began pushing the door, desperate to free them. Suddenly, a light switched on inside Mrs. Harrington’s house. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To my surprise, Mrs, Harrington’s expression softened. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Suddenly, a light switched on inside Mrs Harrington’s house. I froze, realizing that I’d woken her up. Before I could react, the front door opened, and she rushed toward me. I felt a wave of panic flooding through me. But when I thought about the poor dogs which might have been mistreated by her, my fear turned into anger. I made up my mind to face this cruel animal abuser. “How long have you been abusing those dogs? I’m calling the police!” I yelled. To my surprise, Mrs. Harrington’s expression softened. She explained that these dogs had been abandoned by their owners and that she had taken them in. However, when she kept them outside, some dog haters in the neighborhood tried to poison them. She had no choice but to take care of the dogs in secret. Her face lit up with relief when I offered to help From that day on, we were no longer strangers — we became supportive friends, working together to ensure the dogs were safe and well cared for. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize/be aware of ②下定决心做某事:make up one’s mind to do/determine to do sth ③解释:explain/account for ④确保:ensure/make sure 情绪类 ①生气:anger/annoyance ②害怕:fear/fright 【点睛】[高分句型1]But when I thought about the poor dogs which might have been mistreated by her, my fear turned into anger.(运用了when引导时间状语从句,which引导限制性定语从句) [高分句型2]She explained that these dogs had been abandoned by their owners and that she had taken them in.(运用了that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高一年级期中考试 英语试题 试卷满分:150分 考试时间:120分钟 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? B For more than 30 years, Fang Beisong, an expert at repairing old objects at Jingzhou Museum, has worked to make ancient words on bamboo and wooden pieces readable again. C Have you ever seen an animal video online that made you stop and wonder? With each book you read, your mind expands, your vocabulary grows, and your imagination gets a good exercise. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
