lamppost
Hello, everyone! Welcome to Central Park. Today we will take a short walk and enjoy its beauty.
Look around you: it is not a wild forest. Every hill, lake and path here is carefully planned. Many years ago, Olmsted and Vaux designed it with their “Greensward Plan”. Right now, we are standing on Sheep Meadow, a big grassland where visitors can rest and relax.
Now, let’s walk on. Do you feel how quiet it is here? Even though we are in a busy city, we can’t hear much traffic. The roads in the park are under the ground, so we don’t hear the noise. We are now near Bethesda Fountain, one of the most famous places in the park.
Now, look at the lampposts around us. They have a special secret! Each lamppost has four numbers on its base. Here’s the rule: the first two numbers are the nearest street, and the last two numbers tell you which side of the park we are on — even numbers (偶数) mean east, odd numbers (奇数) mean west. For example, 8206 means near 82nd Street on the east side. On our left, we can see the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a very famous art museum on the eastern side of the park.
Our short tour is almost over. Before we finish, we can also see the Tennis Center, where people can play sports and keep healthy. Remember: Central Park is more than a park.
21. Who designed Central Park with the “Greensward Plan”?
A. New Yorkers B. Olmsted and Vaux C. Rich people D. Doctors
22. The writer visits Central Park from ______.
A. south to north B. north to south C. east to west D. west to east
23. If we see the number 7913 on a lamppost, what does it mean?
A. Near 79th Street on the east side. B. Near 79th Street on the west side.
C. Near 13th Street on the east side. D. Near 13th Street on the west side.
【答案】21. B 22. A 23. B
【解析】

第二段第三句。“Many years ago, Olmsted and Vaux designed it with their ‘Greensward Plan’.”,原文直接说明“Olmsted and Vaux”用“Greensward Plan”设计了中央公园。
【22题详解】
全文的游览顺序描述,第二段、第三段、第四段。起点:Right now, we are standing on Sheep Meadow(第二段)。中途:We are now near Bethesda Fountain(第三段)。终点:On our left, we can see the Metropolitan Museum of Art…(第四段)。
“the first two numbers are the nearest street, and the last two numbers tell you which side... odd numbers mean west.”,路灯编号规则为:前两位是街道号,后两位是方位(奇数为west)。7913的前两位是79(对应79th Street),后两位13是奇数(对应west side)。

Qingming Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday. Families usually visit their ancestors’ graves, clean them and leave offerings like food, paper money and incense (香火). This year, young people in China are giving new life to the tradition of tomb-sweeping by placing creative and personal offerings at the graves of famous historical figures.
At the tomb of Cao Cao, a great leader from the Three Kingdoms period, young people left many boxes of painkillers. Historical records show Cao Cao often had bad headaches, and some archaeologists (考古学家) think he might have had dental problems that caused nerve pain. “We don’t throw these offerings away; we just arrange them neatly,” a staff member at the Cao Cao’s Mausoleum Site Museum in Anyang, Henan province, said.
Shi Anbin, a scholar from Tsinghua University, said this shows young people’s interest in Chinese history and culture. “They treat historical figures like stars and want to learn more about the past,” he explained. This way of connecting with history is more personal than the traditional one. Gen Z, people born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, likes to express themselves in special ways.
This trend is also seen at other historical tombs. At the tomb of Li Bai, a famous Tang Dynasty poet who loved drinking, young people left Maotai, beer and other drinks. For Huo Qubing, a young general in the Western Han Dynasty who died at 23, they brought potato chips and spicy snacks, which fits his young age.
Yang Jinsong, a researcher from the China Tourism Academy, said young people want to show their feelings through these offerings and get closer to history. However, he warned that too many offerings might harm the environment and bring safety risks. He suggested museums organize fun activities, like role-playing games, to help young people learn about history in an interesting way.
Experts agree this new trend is a good thing. “With proper guidance, it can make history more lively and easier for young people to understand,” Shi Anbin added. The right tribute can help young people feel closer to historical figures.
24. What did young people leave at Cao Cao’s tomb according to the passage?
A. Wine and beer B. Painkillers
C. Potato chips D. Handwritten letters
25. Who is most likely a member of Gen Z according to the passage?
A. a 38-year-old teacher B. a 28-year-old college student
C. a 41-year-old doctor D. a 10-year-old primary school student
26. Which sentence uses “tribute” with the same meaning as the underlined word?
tribute/’trɪbju:t/n. ①(表达敬意的)礼物、祭品②致敬,赞颂③贡物
A. The country paid tribute to the heroes who died for the people.
B. The kingdom sent tribute to the emperor every year on his birthday.
C. People left special tributes at the memorial of historical figures to show their respect.
D. He gave a tribute to his parents for their selfless love.
27. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Traditional Offerings for Ancient Heroes B. Qingming Festival’s Traditional Customs
C. Young People’s Creative Tomb Offerings D. How to Protect Historical Tombs
【答案】24. B 25. B 26. C 27. C

C
It was a cold November in Greenwich Village. The air bit sharply through the narrow streets. Many people there were very sick with pneumonia (肺炎), which spread through the neighborhood like a shadow, leaving weakness and fear in its wake. Sue and Johnsy lived in a small flat at the top of an old house. Johnsy was badly ill and lying in bed, weak and silent. She looked out at the top of the window all day, watching an old ivy vine (常春藤) climbing up the wall of the neighboring house.
“When the last leaf falls, I shall die,” Johnsy said quietly, her voice thin as a whisper. Sue tried to cheer her up, telling her that her leaves had nothing to do with her life, but Johnsy didn’t listen. Her eyes filled with sadness.
Downstairs lived an old painter named Behrman. He was over sixty years old, with a red face and rough hands that had held a paintbrush for decades. He had painted for forty years but never finished a great picture. He often drank too much and talked loudly, complaining about the unfairness of the art world, but he cared for the two young artists deeply. When Sue told Behrman about Johnsy’s words, he felt angry and sad. “How silly! No one should die because of falling leaves!” he shouted. That night, there was a heavy rain and a strong wind that shook the old house to its foundations.
The next morning, Johnsy asked Sue to pull back the curtain. To her surprise, one green leaf still hung on the vine, bright and firm against the gray sky. It didn’t fall, even when the wind blew again and again, as if it had taken root in the wall itself. Johnsy stared at it for a long time, and a little hope came back to her heart.
What Johnsy didn’t know was that in the middle of that terrible storm, Behrman had climbed a ladder in the pouring rain, painted that single green leaf on the wall, to give Johnsy the hope she needed to live. He caught a severe cold that night, and died a few days later—but his masterpiece (作品), the last leaf, saved a young girl’s life, a quiet act of love that outlasted (持续) every storm.
≤The last leaf≥by O. Henry
28. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A. Sue tried her best to cheer up Johnsy but failed at first.
B. Behrman finished his best work at the cost of his own life.
C. Johnsy thought of herself as the last fallen leaf of the ivy vine.
D. Behrman has been well-known as a great artist for forty years.
29. How does the writer lead into the passage?
A. By explaining causes of pneumonia. B. By describing the environment
C. By comparing the characters. D. By listing numbers of patients.
30. Which of the following shows the correct order of the events in the passage?
① ② ③ ④
A. ③②④① B. ③①②④ C. ②③④① D. ②③①④
31. What is the purpose of describing the last leaf as “bright and firm against the gray sky”?
A. To show the real ivy leaf had strong life force.
B. To express the hope that supported Johnsy to keep living.
C. To praise Behrman’s professional painting skills.
D. To point out the terrible environment in the village.
【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. B

【导语】本文改编自欧·亨利的短篇小说《最后一片常春藤叶》,讲述了老画家贝尔曼用生命为生病的琼西画下“最后一片叶子”,给予她活下去的希望的故事。
【28题详解】
根据原文第3段“He had painted for forty years but never finished a great picture.”,可知贝尔曼画了四十年,但从未完成过一幅伟大的作品,并非“作为一位伟大的艺术家而闻名”,因此D项表述错误。
【29题详解】
文章开头以“It was a cold November in Greenwich Village. The air bit sharply through the narrow streets.”
“bright and firm against the gray sky”描写的这片叶子,是贝尔曼冒雨画下的,它象征着支撑琼西活下去的希望。
D
①Do you ever wonder if we’ll use gene editing (基因编辑) to grow wings? Or upload our brains to the cloud one day? If you love science and engineering, science fiction (sci-fi) is where you go to imagine these answers. __________________
②There are two common ways people misread sci-fi. The first one is called the Torment Nexus Problem. It started in a 2021 tweet (推文). This happens when people focus only on the futuristic tech in a sci-fi story—even though in the original story, this tech is the reason people suffer rather than the story’s actual point. They ignore the real message of the story.
③For example, billionaire Peter Thiel started a company named Palantir, named after the fantasy tech of the “seeing stones” in The Lord of the Rings that drives their users to evil and madness. Palantir’s products were later used in air attacks in Gaza. The author J.R.R. Tolkien would not be happy about this.
④The second mistake is the Blueprint Problem. People wrongly think sci-fi gives an exact plan for the future. They believe if we copy what happens in sci-fi, we’ll get a perfect, amazing future.
⑤The Blueprint Problem inspired a lot of early space programmes in the 1950s, which chose to send humans into space, instead of exploring space with robots. Over the past century, we were told AI would be our obedient (听话的) servants and super smart experts. So people thought robot police and hologram doctors (全息医生) would surely come true — but they won’t, not like that.
⑥Science fiction isn’t a map or a set of rules we have to follow. Instead, it’s a world view, a way of approaching problems with possible assumption (假设) that things don’t have to be the way they are. The future isn’t fixed. It’s something we build, step by step, with our own choices.
32. Which sentence can be put into the blank ______?
A. Sci-fi stories always bring wrong influences on real scientific research.
B. Many sci-fi writers describe unrealistic future scenes in their works.
C. But there’s a problem: many people get the wrong ideas from these stories about the future.
D. The development of real technology is completely different from sci-fi.
33. What can be inferred from the example of Palantir?
A. J. R. R. Tolkien hated the company Palantir deeply.
B. People often misunderstand the symbolic meaning of sci-fi tech.
C. Futuristic tech in sci-fi always leads to bad results in real life.
D. Peter Thiel didn’t read The Lord of the Rings carefully.
34. What is the “Blueprint Problem” as described in paragraph 4?
A. Having robots take over human jobs.
B. Viewing sci-fi as a perfect future model.
C. Expecting authors to engineer real tech.
D. Supporting robots over astronauts in space.
35. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
【答案】32. C 33. B 34. B 35. D

【导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要介绍人们对科幻小说的两种误读,阐明科幻小说的真正意义。
【32题详解】
第一段引出科幻小说,第二段首句点明人们误读科幻小说,空白处需承上启下,C项“But there’s a problem: many people get the wrong ideas from these stories about the future.”
People wrongly think sci-fi gives an exact plan for the future.”:说明人们错误认为科幻给出了未来的精确计划,即把科幻当作完美的未来范本。
【35题详解】
①引入话题:用畅想引出科幻小说,②③④⑤讲两种误读问题及案例,⑥点明真正含义:科幻不是规则,是世界观与思考方式。

Li Na
I have had a deep love for traditional Chinese food since I was a child. After graduation, I went back to my hometown and became a local food vlogger. I think this job is very meaningful. I shoot short videos of making hometown snacks like sweet rice cakes and hand pulled noodles, and share them online. This helps promote local food culture, drive the sales of hometown ingredients, and boost the local economy. Many viewers said they learned to make the delicious food through my videos. I hope more people can know and love our traditional food culture, and help my hometown develop better.
Zhang Wei
I used to work in a big city as an office worker, sitting in front of the computer all day. I was tired of the busy city life, so I returned to my hometown. Now I am a rural tour guide, and I find this job really meaningful. I lead tourists from all over the country to visit my hometown’s beautiful mountains and rivers, and tell them interesting local stories. This brings more tourists to my hometown, helps local businesses grow, and promotes rural revitalization. The job is tiring but I never feel bored. I really enjoy sharing the beauty of my hometown with others and helping my hometown become more famous.
Chen Yu
I have loved making traditional handicrafts since I was a kid. After graduation, I came back to my hometown and became a bamboo craft maker. I think this job is meaningful and I feel proud of it. My job is to make bamboo baskets, bamboo fans and other handmade crafts with local bamboo. Many tourists buy my crafts as souvenirs (纪念品) . This not only keeps our traditional skills alive, but also helps local villagers increase their income and develop the local handicraft industry. You’re probably searching for books that can change your life. And a lot of readers agree that the book Atomic Habits《原子习惯》will meet your needs. It’s a No. 1 New York Times bestseller written by James Clear, who did a lot of research on formation of habits.
Why is it so popular? That’s because the book introduces useful ways to create good habits and break bad ones. Readers everywhere are very interested in Clear’s “science of tiny habits”.
Clear explains his idea with examples. If you’d like to exercise, but you don’t think you have the time or energy, Clear suggests starting with two minutes a day. Over time, the effects of this habit will increase as you repeat the actions. He calls these repeated actions “atomic habits”. “All big things come from small beginnings,” says Clear.
Clear continues his argument with another example. Two men want to break the habit of smoking. When offered a cigarette (香烟), one says, “No, thanks. I’m trying to give up smoking.” The other says, “No, thanks. I’m not a smoker.” While the first man still sees himself as a smoker, the second man doesn’t. Clear says, “Don’t just care about what you want to achieve. Instead, bad habits will die more easily if you focus on who you want to become.”
Atomic Habits will reshape the way you think about progress and success. Also, it will give you the tools you need to change your habits. Slowly but surely, it will have a great effect on your health, job and relationships.
Atomic Habits is a popular life-changing book by James Clear. ____54____ is that it offers helpful habit-changing methods. Firstly, to create good habits, Clear advises that ____55____, which he names “atomic habits”. 【答案】范文1:
My Recommendation for Chinese Culture Month
Among various treasures in Chinese traditional culture, Chinese tea culture stands out. It is a symbol of our nation‘s spirit, good manners and wisdom.
Chinese tea culture has a long history of over 4,000 years. Different parts of China have their own special tea, such as Longjing, Tieguanyin and Keemun. Tea shows harmony, respect and calm.
In my life, tea is a warm part of my family time. My grandma makes Biluochun for us every weekend. She taught me to watch tea leaves open up and take small sips. Giving tea to guests is a way to show respect.
Tea culture ties us to our roots. Let’s pass down this precious gift and let its smell travel around the world.

Among various treasures in Chinese traditional culture, Sichuan Opera Face-changing is a wonderful art. This special art shines brightly with its unique magic.
Performers wear bright costumes and painted masks. They can change masks in the blink of an eye. This shows the great creativity of Chinese artists.
I still remember watching this show with my family. As soon as the performer appeared, we fixed our eyes on him. He waved his sleeves and turned around, and his face changed again and again. That experience made me fall in love with this art.
Let’s know it, love it and protect it. Only when we pass it on can this magical art keep shining.

Doctors

D. He gave a tribute to his parents for their selfless love.

A. B.
C. D.

Secondly, instead of ____56____, he suggests focusing on who we want to be in order to give up bad habits more easily. Since this book will reshape our thoughts and offer us tools, ____57____.
