Working at an investment bank in New York City in the mid-2010s,Anna Sacks was living the life—just not the life she wanted.Sure, she was happy. But she wanted to do something that felt important and was fulfilling on a deeper level.
Sacks packed up her life and moved to Connecticut for three months to participate in Adamah,a Jewish farming program that focuses on sustainable living and growing sustainable food. The Adamah program opened Sacks’s eyes to the damage consumer culture is doing on a local, national, and global level, and the need to find solutions. From then on,she began what she calls “trash(垃圾) walking”.
While walking around her neighborhood,Sacks,31,picked through rubbish to look for reusable items.Soon, her trash walks expanded to include company rubbish along with residential trash.Surprisingly, she discovered a wide range of really great stuff—like clothing, dinnerware, and food—all of which she documents on Instagram and TikTok.
Under the name The Trash Walker,Sacks quickly gained popularity for her educational, funny, and surprising videos that highlight the problems with consumerism and share information about how to live a more sustainable life.“The root issue is overproduction, which leads to overconsumption, which leads to a large amount of waste,” she says.Sacks’s videos have gone viral many times, causing shockwaves through the industries she calls out.
Trash walking has given Sacks a nearly endless supply and she shares much of her “treasure” with others. She tries giving them informally to family, friends,or individuals she knows may need a specific item. Then she takes the remaining items to free stores so other New Yorkers can benefit from her treasure-hunting.
Sacks’s main focus is simply getting people to pay attention to how many unnecessary things they buy and then throw away.“Once you become aware of the way you consume, you can see ways you improve,” she says.
24.What inspired Sacks to begin her “trash walking”?
A.Her desire to live a richer life.
B.The great need for household stuff.
C.Her involvement in a project.

A.She donates all to the charity.
B.She keeps most for her family.
C.She gives away much to others.
D.She sells some to individuals.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Trash Walker:Find Treasure in Trash
B.Trash Walking:A Tough Journey
C.Trash Walker:Live in the Moment
D.Trash Walking:A New Career

“Won’t Give Up” was originally thought as a song to express sadness to a melting glacier(冰川) in Alaska.Yet unlike many other songs reflecting on environmental disaster,“Won’t Give Up”—as its title suggests—aims to reduce people’s feelings of hopelessness when it comes to reducing global warming.
“We are standing, all three of us,on Exit Glacier,in a spot where even five, ten years ago,the glacier was a hundred feet tall,” said Pattie Gonia, who cooperated on the song with 2019 NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner Quinn Christopherson and famous cellist(大提琴演奏家) Yo-Yo Ma.The three musicians traveled to the site to shoot the accompanying music video.“And now it’s nothing,” Gonia added.“Now it’s the rocks underneath.”
Despite the song’s connection to melting glaciers, the text of the song doesn’t specifically refer to climate change.Nate Sloan,a University of Southern California musicologist, said the “Won’t Give Up” could serve as a cry for many social movements.“It’s a little uncertain,” said Sloan.“It’s a little inspirational, which is perhaps what the world needs from a climate anthem(颂歌).”
“There’s a lot of potential for this song to be sung at climate gathering,to be sung as a part of the climate movement,” said Gonia.“But also for the song to be what it needs to be and mean what it needs to mean to other people,no matter who they are.If a person hears it and thinks that it’s not about climate but that it’s about racial justice, that’s beautiful.Take it,go for it.”
The musicians said they hope “Won’t Give Up” will become an anthem for the climate change movement,as Charles Albert Tindley’s “We Shall Overcome” did for civil rights in the 20th century and “Quiet” by Milck for women’s rights in the months following the 2016 presidential election.
Christopherson said the best way to do that is by getting other people to sing it.“It’s for you to sing,to scream, and to dance to,” he said.“It’s just to be shared.”
28.What is the purpose of creating “Won’t Give Up”?
A.To explore an unhappy topic.
B.To protect a melting glacier.
C.To inspire a positive awareness.
D.To avoid environmental disasters.
29.What do we know about Exit Glacier?
A.It is attractive to musicians.
B.It has completely melted.
C.It is suitable to shoot videos.
D.It has turned into rocks.
30.What does Sloan think of the song?
A.It is the whole society’s voice.
B.It can bring about inspiration.
C.It focuses on the climate change.
D.It can lead the world’s movements.
31.Why are the other two songs mentioned in paragraph 5?
A.To make a comparison.
B.To draw a conclusion.
C.To present an argument.
D.To express an expectation.

Around 40 million tonnes of electronic waste, known as e-waste,is produced every year. This includes electrical or electronic equipment that has been discarded. But where does it all go?In the US alone,100 million mobile phones,41 million computers and over 20 million televisions are thrown into landfills in a year.Even for standard waste this is a big headache, because any materials that are buried in the ground can’t be easily recovered and recycled.Recycling electronics can save energy and means that less of Earth’s natural resources need to be mined.
Failing to recycle e-waste is extremely damaging to the environment due to the nature of the materials used in modern devices. While heavy metals and chemicals improve a device’s safety and user experience, these components become poisonous if they’re not dealt with properly.Your old phones,Gameboys, kettles, microwaves and more can end up in landfills, leaking their harmful contents into the soil, water and air.Not only does this kill wildlife and destroy ecosystems, but the accumulation of poison can impact human health too.As heavy metals and chemicals flow into lakes and rivers, drinking water becomes polluted. These poisons spread through the soil, impacting the health of crops and animals that people also rely on.
In some western countries,e-waste isn’t hidden out of sight in landfills but is burnt in giant, open junkyards. They even ship waste electronics to other countries to deal with, and this often ends up in dumps across Africa and Asia.Workers in these places are exposed to polluted lands and chemical gas.
It is urgent that we should reduce the damaging and unsustainable side of e-waste production.Rare earth metals, some plastics and chemicals can be fed into the next generation of electronics. The steps to proper recycling of e-waste are extensive and need large investment, but more and more countries around the world are turning to e-waste recycling.
32.What does the underlined word “discarded” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Repaired. B.Protected.
C.Used. D.Abandoned.
33.What can be learned from paragraph 2?
A.E-waste has a permanent effect on the environment.
B.E-waste may do harm to both ecosystems and humans.
C.Heavy metals and chemicals are poisonous to the users.
D.Burying e-waste into landfills is an effective way to recycle.
34.What is the author’s attitude to some western countries’ actions?
A.Supportive. B.Objective.
C.Concerned. D.Uncertain.
35.What might the author continue to talk about?
A.Solutions to destroying e-waste.
B.Ways to recycle e-waste properly.
C.Applications of recycled materials.
D.Investments in restoring ecosystems.

The use of fossil fuels in transportation is one of the major reasons for climate change.A survey by the Asian Development Bank indicates that Asia’s carbon dioxide emissions from transportation increased 3.9 percent yearly, nearly twice the global level.
If left unchecked, emissions from transport will continue to rise.By 2050,Asia’s demand for transportation will likely double from the current level. 36 They should aim to achieve the low-carbon goal in transportation.
37 For example, the energy efficiency in transport systems is dissatisfying and dependence on high-carbon energy resources is heavy. The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) proposed several strategies for Asian cities to become low-carbon in transport.
First, shorten travel time and distance.City planning should be focusing on reducing people’s travel time as well as cutting carbon emissions through practical measures. 38 They also have introduced “15-minute life circles” to shorten travel time and distance.
Second, improve transportation structure. It is important to encourage the use of low-carbon transportation means and reduce high-emissions vehicles. Most Asian cities including Yichang in China and Jakarta in Indonesia are not large and thus suitable for building effective and economic public transit systems. 39 These successful practices have set up examples for other Asian cities to follow.
Third, promote the use of clean energy. 40 Public vehicles such as taxis, shared cars, service cars, and sanitation vehicles should be the first to stop using fossil fuel and go electric, followed by private cars, trucks and ships.
As the continent with one of the largest number of developing economies,Asia is key to pushing the global low-carbon transition. With regional joint efforts, the transition could be more practical and hopeful.
A.To carry it out requires promoting the use of clean energy.
B.However, there are multiple challenges to be overcome.
C.To achieve the low-carbon goal, strategies should be adopted.
D.Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems in some Asian cities have been promoted.
E.This strategy is to increase the efficiency of energy in transportation and reduce emissions.
F.It is important for countries here to solve environmental problems caused by transportation.
G.Many Asian cities have introduced online education and remote working.

Turtles Crossing
One spring afternoon,Alex rode his bike along the country road leading to his house. As he rounded a bend,a sign came into his view—Johnson’s pond. His dad took him canoeing(皮划艇) there sometimes.Alex loved it.Now it was spring time and the pond was always so alive. There,he could find frogs croaking, dragonflies hunting and turtles basking(晒太阳) on sunny rocks.
Alex was curious about the turtles he saw.Days earlier,he had gone to the library to check out books on turtles.Alex learned that turtles don’t have warm blood like people do.That’s why they have to sit in the sun to warm themselves. He also learned that in spring turtles lay eggs on the land away from the water.
Now it looked like tomorrow might be another sunny day.He decided he would ask Dad if they could go canoeing and look for turtles again.Just then Alex saw something in the road up ahead. It looked like a big gray rock. But it was a funny place for a rock to be.As Alex watched, the rock started to move. When he rode his bike up to get a closer look,he saw that it wasn’t a rock at all.It was a large turtle creeping(爬) its way across the road.It had a bony,beak-shaped mouth and a long, jagged tail.Alex suddenly realized what it was going to do.
He also knew not to get too close. He had read that a turtle has a powerful bite even though it doesn’t have teeth. It could even bite off someone’s finger. He stood at a distance and watched.
Out of the corner of his eye,he saw a car approaching. The turtle was still only halfway across the road.Alex knew he couldn’t pick it up to move it safely to the grass. What could he do?Thinking fast,he started jumping up and down and waving both hands wildly.“Stop!Stop!” he cried. The car slowed to a stop, and the driver stuck her head out of the window. It was his neighbor,Mrs.Ramos.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
“Are you alright,Alex?” asked Mrs.Ramos.
Suddenly Alex got an idea how to protect it from car danger.

M:In Spain, children and their family are riding bikes to school together in large groups. The program is called the “Bicibús” or Bike Bus.This fall, children in the Eixample area of Barcelona have a new way to get to school on Fridays—they ride their bikes. Most kids ride their bikes, but others ride scooters or use skates.Instead of riding in bike lanes or on sidewalks, the Bicibús takes up the entire street. With music playing and bike bells ringing, the Bicibús feels like a party.A nine -year-old kid says,“The best part of the Bicibús is that we ride along and pick up our friends and we ride together.” Parents are hoping that the Bicibús will help change ideas about how people can get around in the city. They want the city to create wider,kid-friendly bike lanes that are separate from car traffic.Recently, pictures and videos of the Bicibús in Eixample got a lot of attention when they were posted on social media. Many people pointed out what a simple idea it is,and how easy it is to get started.

第一节
Leave-No-Trace Camping
Dear all,
In recent years, camping has become increasingly popular as a recreational activity. However,it has brought about various environmental and safety issues.
Improper disposal of trash pollutes the environment and harms wildlife.Additionally, campfires that are not properly extinguished can lead to wildfires and devastate ecosystems.
To address these problems and promote environmental conservation,I propose the following initiatives.Firstly, let’s make a conscious effort to pack out everything we bring in and properly dispose of garbage in waste bins.Secondly,be cautious, ensuring campfires are completely extinguished before leaving the site.In addition, you’re merciful to avoid disturbing animals’ habitats, and stay on appointed trails to minimize any potential damage to fragile vegetation.
Let us join hands in preserving the environment while enjoying ourselves outdoors.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
“Are you alright,Alex?” asked Mrs.Ramos.Alex quickly pointed to the turtle still creeping across the road.“Look,it’s a turtle! She’s trying to get to the other side, but she’s in danger.” Mrs.Ramos smiled and nodded.“Oh,I see.We need to help her, don’t we?” Alex nodded eagerly.“Yes,but we can’t just pick her up.She might bite us.” Together, they brainstormed ideas to safely escort the turtle to the grass on the other side of the road.
Suddenly Alex got an idea how to protect it from car danger. He ran home quickly, grabbed a large cardboard box,and returned with it.Carefully, they positioned the box in front of the turtle, guiding her into it.Once she was safely inside,Alex and Mrs.Ramos carried the box to the grassy area, where they gently let her out.The turtle seemed to understand their intentions and slowly made her way into the grass.Alex and Mrs.Ramos watched her disappear into the greenery, relieved that they had saved her from harm. They smiled at each other, knowing they had done a good thing for the turtle and the environment.
