Spring is an exciting time of the year! Did you know there are many cool things about spring apart from just the warm weather?
During spring, the bad weather can be all over the place. That’s because warm air from the south and cold air from the north are fighting, making the weather really _________. It’s like nature’s way of keeping us guessing!
Lots of baby animals are born in spring. They come into the world when they can get more time to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather. Deer, squirrels (松鼠), foxes and even whales welcome their little ones during spring when food is easy to find.
Spring can also make you feel much happier. As the weather gets warmer, your brain makes more serotonin (血清素). This makes you feel good. That’s why people feel more positive when spring rolls around.
But spring doesn’t start at the same time everywhere. In the Northern Hemisphere (北半球), spring begins in March, but for people in the Southern Hemisphere, such as Australians, it starts in September. So, while some people are enjoying spring, people in the other hemisphere are experiencing fall!
24. Choose the right word to fill in the blank.
A. clear B. changeable C. windy
25. Why are many baby animals born in spring?
A. Because they will have fewer enemies.
B. Because they can sleep more at night.
C. Because it is warm and there is more food.
26. Which word can take the place of the underlined word “positive”?
A. Hopeful. B. Bored. C. Organized.
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Spring starts at the same time all over the world.
B. People in Australia enjoy spring in March.
C. When it’s spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s fall in the Southern Hemisphere.
28. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The bad weather in spring.
B. Why animals like spring best.
C. Interesting things about spring.

请阅读下面的非连续性文本,根据语篇内容答题。
Chinese students have two long holidays (summer holiday and winter holiday) in a year. But besides relaxing, there is one common question: Should teachers give homework during the holiday?
Some students want a homework-free holiday, while others believe a little homework can help them keep learning. We asked some middle school students and an education expert to share their ideas.
What Students Say:
Zhou Ming, 14: I hope there is no homework during the holiday! We work hard at school. The holiday should be for relaxing and doing fun things. We can exercise, read storybooks, or spend time with family. Then we will be more energetic when school starts again.
Li Xiaoyu, 15: I think a little homework is okay, but not too much. If we don’t review (复习) our lessons at all, we might forget a lot. It will be hard to catch up later, especially in subjects like Math and English——they need regular practice.
Chen Siyuan, 13: I agree with Xiaoyu. Teachers can give interesting tasks, like reading a book and sharing our thoughts, or doing a small project (项目) about holiday traditions (传统). This way, we can keep learning without feeling bored.
Dr Qiao’s Opinion:
A school break is a good chance for students to learn by themselves and experience life. Whether to give homework isn’t simply yes or no- it depends on the type and purpose of the tasks. If homework is just repetitive (重复的) exercises, students may lose interest and learn nothing useful. But if it encourages reading, thinking or hands-on activities, it can help students keep learning while relaxing. Meaningful tasks can also help them develop different skills. The real question is: Does the homework help students grow, or just fill their holiday time?
34. What does Zhou Ming think the holiday should be for?
