Last month, Aunt invited us to the yearly outdoor spring celebration on her farm.
On the way, we decided to take a little side road as a shortcut (捷径). Just when we were in the very middle of nowhere, our car started making a strange noise. We had to call roadside service. We felt down as we were going to be late.
“We’re going to miss everything!” complained Tex.
“Look on the bright side,” said Dad, “Our car broke down in such a pretty place.” “I agree,” Mom said, taking out the picnic blanket (垫子). “How about walking over to that wildflower field and having our own springtime celebration?”
At first, the idea didn’t exactly make us kids jump up and down. But as we started looking around, cool things started happening.
“Hey!” Indi said quietly. “This huge butterfly landed on my knee!”
“She’s so beautiful.” I said. “Look, there are two lovely rabbits happily eating grass there!”
Just then, we heard a big sound, and hundreds of birds rose up out of the trees, flew into the sky. “Wow, that is the most magical thing I’ve ever seen in my life!” I shouted.
Although the workers fixed our car, by then it was too late to get to the farm. So my parents let us eat cakes, and they were delicious! Anyway, it was a pretty special picnic.
If you try to stay open to what’s actually happening around you, you might just discover wonders beside you.

Imagine drinking warm water instead of cold soda, cooking a pot of pear soup on a lazy evening, or doing baduanjin (八段锦) to start your day — these are not only Chinese habits now. TikTok videos with words like “Ni hao, we’re all Chinese now!” have started a worldwide popular activity, making “Becoming Chinese” a hot topic on social media.
What makes these habits so contagious (有感染力的)? For most people, it is because they are good for health and easy to do. “Warm water calms my stomach much better than cold drinks,” a US life blogger said. Another user said that 10 minutes of baduanjin every day has solved her long-term sleep problems. These small changes fit people’s wish for a slower, healthier lifestyle.
In addition, China has made visiting easier by making the transit visa-free (过境免签) time longer from 144 to 240 hours for travelers from 55 countries. Foreign visitors have taken this chance to walk on city streets, try local food, and share their trips online.
Also, translation tools and social media let these daily moments spread fast — even if you don’t speak Chinese, you can easily follow a congee (粥) recipe or baduanjin guide and join the fun.
As friends from all over the world enjoy warm daily joys like ginger tea, congee and baduanjin to relax, it shows that Chinese culture is not only for watching but also for living and enjoying. With easier travel rules and better translation tools, more people will find its beauty. The “Becoming Chinese” is not a short-lived thing-it is a nice start to closer cultural ties around the world.

A. B.
C. D.

B. They are learning and enjoying Chinese lifestyle and habits.
C. They are planning to move to China to live there forever.
D. They are trying to learn how to speak the Chinese language.
54. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Cold drinks are better for people’s stomachs than warm water.
B. The transit visa-free time for foreign travelers has been longer.
C. More people may get to know and love Chinese culture in the future.
D. Foreigners need to speak Chinese well to learn baduanjin or make congee.

A. To tell people to change their own living habits.
B. To encourage more people to spread Chinese culture.
C. To show Chinese daily habits are popular around the world.
D. To ask people not to buy expensive health products.

① Imagine a jacket that warms you up on a cold day without batteries (电池), or a pair of socks that follows your heartbeat. This isn’t science fiction. It’s the reality of electronic clothes, or e-clothes. These are materials that have small electronic things made directly into them, turning ordinary clothes into “smart” wearables that can make our daily life more convenient and our technological experience more connected and comfortable.
② How does it work? Scientists use special soft, thin wires (导线) that can carry electricity. These wires are made together with cotton or wool to create “smart material”. Hidden inside are tiny sensors (传感器). They can collect information from your body, like temperature, movement, and even stress levels. This information is then sent to your phone through a small, soft circuit (电路板). These parts are often very thin and light, so you hardly feel them when you wear the clothes.
③ These smart clothes have a wide range (范围) of uses. For athletes, smart socks can check foot pressure to improve running skills. For patients, a smart shirt can check heart rate (心率) without the need for uncomfortable hospital wires. For the elderly, such clothes could help families watch their health. In the future, your jacket might connect to your music player, and you can change the song just by tapping your arm. It could even connect to your smart home machines.
④ However, there are challenges. Washing these clothes is a problem, as water can break the electronics. Also, making them comfortable and cheap enough for everyone is still a work in progress. Some companies are working on making the electronic parts removable before washing.
⑤ Though it is difficult, many companies are working hard to bring e-clothes to our daily lives. They are trying to make the electronics waterproof (防水) and the material softer. The day when all your clothes are as “smart” as your phone may come sooner than you think.
56. What can we learn about e-clothes from the passage?
A. They can collect body information without any electronics.
B. They are now cheap enough for most families to buy.
C. They can help improve health and sports skills in daily life.
D. They can be washed normally like common clothes.
57. Which sentence can be put in the at the end of Paragraph 2?
A. More and more people begin to like smart clothes.
B. That’s why smart clothes feel just like common ones.
C. Sensors help collect information from people’s body.
D. We can buy smart clothes in many shopping malls.
58. The underlined word “removable” in Paragraph 4 probably means ______.
A. able to be taken away B. able to be washed easily
C. able to be turned on D. able to be connected easily
59. What’s the best structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.

D. Maybe both ways are okay.
E. Reading and playing sports are my favorite activities.
F. I think everyone needs time to rest and think.
G. Well, I don’t agree with you.

B: But I get more practice from them. And my teachers explain things again, so it’s easier.

B: Cool. But what if you don’t understand something in class?

A group of middle school students in yellow vests gathered excitedly outside the Guiyang International Convention and Exhibition Center. They were chosen by the Guanshanhu District Media Center and would work as bilingual (双语) reporters at the 2025 China International Big Data (大数据) Industry Expo for the first time. Li Yihan and Wang Zini were among them and their English abilities were quite different. Li was good at reading and writing, but she was too shy to speak in public. Wang, however, was active and enjoyed talking with others, but she had a very small vocabulary.
To get fully ready for the big event, they took professional pre-job training and tried their best to improve their English. Li practiced speaking English every day. She read interview scripts (稿子) loudly in front of the mirror, recorded her voice and compared it with native speakers’. She also remembered some useful big data words. Wang took an active part in role-play activities and wrote down new words in a notebook to review them very often.
During the expo, they talked with international exhibitors (参展商) and reported on amazing new technologies like drone (无人机) soccer. Speaking English was not easy for the two 14-year-old students, especially when facing difficult technical terms (专业术语). But they quickly found a good way out. They changed the topic to daily life and cultural communication, such as introducing Guiyang’s local food. They were nervous at first, but the exhibitors’ warmth helped them relax soon.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to learn faster and face challenges more bravely than others? The answer may lie in their mindset — the way they think about themselves. According to psychologist Carol Dweck, there are two main kinds of mindsets. People with a fixed (固定型的) mindset believe that intelligence and talent are born, not developed. They often avoid difficult tasks because they are afraid of failing. If they fail, they think they are just “not good at it.”
However, people with a growth mindset believe that abilities can be improved through hard work and help from others. They see challenges as chances to learn. When they fail, they ask themselves, “What can I learn from this?” They know that every mistake is a step forward. Studies show that students with this attitude (态度) usually get better grades over time because they keep trying even things get difficult.
Scientists have found that our brain is like a muscle. Every time we work hard to solve a problem or learn something new, the connections in our brain become stronger. The more we challenge ourselves, the smarter we become.
Having a growth mindset is especially important for students. It helps them deal with schoolwork and stay positive. Instead of saying “I’m not good at math,” they can say, “I haven’t mastered it yet.” This small change in words can lead to big changes in learning.
The good news is that anyone can develop a growth mindset. By changing the way we think about challenges and failures, we can do better in study and life.
The passage introduces two different mindsets. People with a fixed mindset keep away from difficult tasks because they 74 . Those with a growth mindset think abilities can be developed 75 and see challenges as chances to learn. Studies show 76 when we keep challenging ourselves. The good news is that everyone can develop a growth mindset. Above all, the writer wants to tell us 77 .
