Behind every game, puzzle, or imaginative scenario lies a powerful force shaping a child's development. But why, exactly, is play so vital for kids? Dive in, and you'll discover the convincing science behind it.  When your child engages in play, they do more than just have fun. They're actively constructing their brains. Neural pathways, those complicated networks responsible for thought, learning, and emotion, are consolidated during these leisurely activities. Dr. Jaak Panksepp, a pioneer in developmental neuroscience, provided convincing evidence for this claim. His research highlighted that playful experiences, particularly in the early years, drive the development of these neural pathways, which serve as channel for emotions, cognition, and even the capacity for social interaction. Much like constructing a home requires more than just bricks, it's about laying a strong foundation. Beyond constructing their brains, leisure activities are vital in improving a child's physical health and coordination. Whether it's running in the park, jumping rope, or even playing Beyblades, these actions develop a child's gross and fine motor skills. Moreover, such physical engagements push children to be more aware of their body movements and spatial surroundings. The constant feedback loop, where they calculate their strength, balance, and speed, creates a rich environment for refining physical capabilities. Through play, kids cultivate a symbiotic relationship between mind and body, setting the stage for overall health.  The field of play, often stimulated by a visit to toy stores, is not limited to the mere physical or cognitive domains; it profoundly influences the emotional and social aspects of a child's life. As children immerse themselves in collaborative games or even solitary imaginative play, they subtly manage the complex web of human emotions and interactions. Such experiences offer invaluable lessons on empathy, understanding different perspectives, and taking full advantage of emotional intelligence.    Play is more than just a leisurely activity for kids. It's an essential tool that helps foster brain development, emotional understanding, physical health, and so much more. By understanding the importance of play, you can provide your child with the best foundation for a bright and successful future.  24. (原创)Why Dr. Jaak Panksepp’s research is mentioned? A. To highlight playful experiences can develop neural pathways. B. To illustrate play is helpful to children’s brains. C. To study children’s neural pathways. D. (原创)Who is the text written for? A. Parents. B. Children. C. Teenagers. D. Experts. C We often hear about artificial intelligence (AI) and how it’s being used for almost unimaginable things, seemingly speaking with us in a fashion that’s indistinguishable from a human. What exactly is AI? When speaking with Opace, they explain, “At its core, AI is a branch of computer science that intends to create machines that can perform tasks that would call for human intelligence.” Opace continues, “More businesses than ever are using AI for content creation and marketing right now. With its ability to analyze data, generate personalized content, and optimize marketing strategies, AI is reshaping the future of marketing.” AI tools can analyze data such as user behavior and market trends to generate personalized content tailored to individual preferences. AI tools like ChatGPT can draw upon their extensive knowledge base to help generate unique ideas and content instantly to reflect the prompt added by the user. Businesses can craft content that is not only engaging but also optimized for search engines, ensuring visibility and engagement. For example, business owners running a WordPress website or blog can now use a WordPress blog creator plugin powered by AI, which will suggest keywords, content ideas, and even write entire blog articles based on the user’s preferences and prompts. While AI offers immense potential, it also raises ethical considerations. Businesses must ensure that AI is used responsibly and transparently. Consumers today are more discerning than ever before. They seek genuine interactions and value brands that can offer relevant content tailored to their needs. The power of AI in revolutionizing marketing strategies cannot be underestimated. As AI continues to advance, its role in marketing will become even more significant. The future of marketing will inevitably be characterized by AI-driven strategies that offer dynamic, tailored, and efficient experiences for both businesses and consumers. The integration will redefine the industry, enabling businesses to meet the ever-changing needs of their audience in the future. 28. (原创)What is AI aimed at? A. Solving almost unimaginable problems. AI: Revolutionizing the future D Chickens genetically modified to be unaffected to bird flu may one day prevent the spread of the disease on farms, a study suggests. Just small adjustments to a single gene made chickens resistant to an avian influenza(禽流感) infection, researchers report October 10 in Nature Communications. The gene, known as ANP32A, provides the instructions that tell chicken cells how to make a protein that flu viruses rely on to successfully occupy cells. Disrupting the avian virus’s ability to forcibly occupy the protein stopped most genetically edited birds from getting infected. “Testing the gene editing in such a universal agricultural animal that’s easily affected by bird flu makes the new study especially impactful and important,” says Jacob Yount, a viral immunologist at Ohio State University in Columbus. Ideally genetic editing would completely stop the virus from reproducing inside the animals, so it can’t pose a risk to birds, or people, at all. But in the new study, some edited chickens still got infected, meaning the technique isn’t yet 100 percent effective.“The new research isn’t all the way there yet, but I think it’s an amazing first step and an amazing proof of concept,” Yount says. In the study, Barclay, McGrew and colleagues made two changes to ANP32A using the molecular scissors CRISPR/Cas9, so that the gene’s protein could no longer interact with avian flu viruses. The team then placed 10 normal and 10 gene-edited chicks in separate incubators and exposed them to a dose of around 1,000 infectious particles of avian influenza directly in the nasal cavity(鼻腔). A day later, the two groups of 2-week-old chicks were then each joined by 10 unexposed peers, called sentinels. The unedited birds were paired with unedited sentinels, and gene-edited birds were paired with gene-edited sentinels. All 10 unedited chickens got infected and had high levels of virus in their bodies, and so did seven of their sentinels. Only one of the gene-edited birds contracted the virus. That infected modified bird had low levels of virus, and it didn’t transmit the virus to any of the edited sentinels. “If this was a disease that only infected chickens, then the resistance that we created would be better than what we would get with a vaccine,” McGrew said. “But because this is a zoonotic(人畜共患的) disease and can be spread potentially to humans, we really need to aim for complete resistance.” 32. (原创)What’s the function of ANP32A? A. To make chickens resistant to an avian influenza infection. B. To tell chicken cells how to make a protein that flu viruses depend on to occupy cells. C. To prevent the spread of the disease successfully. D. To prevent most genetically edited birds from getting infected. 33. (原创)What does Jacob Yount think of the new research? A. Indifferent. B. Promising. C. Useless. D. Outdated. 34. (原创)What does the experiment conducted by Barclay, McGrew and colleagues show? A. Gene editing can probably help prevent the spread of the avian influenza. B. Sentinels can resist avian influenza by gene editing. C. Gene editing can certainly make birds immune to avian influenza. D. Edited chickens certainly won’t get infected by virus. 35. (原创)What do we know from McGrew in the last paragraph? A. A vaccine satisfies our needs. B. People won’t get infected by the disease. C. We should take human beings into consideration. D. Gene editing is perfect for animals and human beings. (原创)Whether you struggle to exercise due to mobility issues or illness or are looking for easy ways to keep fit in your day-to-day life, chair exercises can be an effective and easy home workout for many people. Our days were simple and full of simple joys: reading good books, talking with friends for a long time, or going to the movies on Saturdays, which was the most exciting thing for me. Bangalore was a busy city with many cafés, restaurants and people hurrying around. The most wonderful place there was the cinema. One weekend, my friend Sumi and I planned to go to the Rex Theatre on Brigade Road. I can’t remember the name of the film we wanted to see, but I still remember the ride there: we squeezed into an autorickshaw(人力三轮车) that shook and rushed through the busy traffic. That afternoon, Brigade Road was very crowded with bikes, cars, buses and people everywhere. We got off near the theatre, and I stepped onto the road, only thinking about popcorn and the film’s surprises. Suddenly, I fell to the ground. My right leg, which was always weak, might have given way. I lay on the curb, my foot twisted, and felt great pain quickly. Soon, many people gathered around to watch, but no one helped. Sumi ran to find another autorickshaw, but all drivers refused to help her. She came back, and we felt helpless. Then, a young man about 20 years old walked out of the crowd. He was thin, spoke softly and politely. He knelt down, asked about my pain and if I needed to go to the hospital. I shook my head, trying not to cry. He nodded, quickly stopped an autorickshaw, helped me get in, and said “take care” before leaving. Months later, my foot healed. One evening, I went to the Lido Theatre with some friends. When we were waiting for the film, I saw the young man again. He walked up and asked how my foot was. I told him I was fine, and he smiled, said “take care” and left. Paragraph 1: I stood there, watching him walk away, and I felt a strong sense of gratitude in my heart. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The young man’s kindness left a deep impression on me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2026年高二下期期末考试·英语 第5页(共10页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026年高二下期期末考试 英语听力朗读材料、答案详解及评分标准 一、听力朗读材料 第一节 Text 1 M: Would you like to go to the lecture with me this afternoon? How is it going? So delighted am I to know that you are strongly interested in Chinese food. Of all the various choices I have ever tried, dumplings are definitely second to none. The reasons why I like them is that the food is always combined with happy childhood memories. Now I’m an adult. No matter how bad my mood is, the perfect combination of tender meat and fresh soup is enough to cheer me up. To my great relief, it can totally relieve my homesickness especially when I’m far away from my hometown. I would appreciate it if you could take my recommendation into consideration. Don’t hesitate to give it a try! I bet you’ll like it. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 第二节 Paragraph 1: I stood there, watching him walk away, and I felt a strong sense of gratitude in my heart. I wanted to run after him to ask his name and say thank you again, but he had already disappeared into the crowd. My friends noticed my silence and asked what was wrong. I told them the whole story of how the young man helped me when I fell on Brigade Road. They were all moved by his kindness. We went into the theatre, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him, his soft voice and warm smile lingering in my mind. Paragraph 2: The young man’s kindness left a deep impression on me. I decided to follow his example and help others in need. One day, I saw a little girl crying on the street because she got lost. I walked up to her gently, asked for her name and helped her find her parents. When her parents thanked me warmly, I felt the same happiness that the young man must have felt. I realized that kindness is a small but powerful thing, which can bring warmth to the world and make our life more beautiful. 1. Take one.
