What do you think will happen if you draw a picture with crayons and cover up that picture with paint? Now follow the steps below to find out the answer.
What you need
☆crayons of different colours
☆drawing paper
☆blue poster paint
☆a small bowl
☆a cup filled with water
☆a paintbrush
How to do it
Step 1
Think about a scene under the sea with different-coloured fish and sea plants. And then draw the fish and sea plants with your crayons. The more colours you use, the better your picture will be.
Step 2
Pour a little blue paint into the bowl. Add a bit of water and stir (搅拌) to make your paint a little thinner.
Step 3
Dip your brush into the blue paint in the bowl. Cover your whole picture with the blue paint. What happens? You have sea plants and animals living in a blue sea!
Why does it happen
Your crayons are made of wax (蜡). Wax resists, or stays away from the paint. That’s why it does not cover the picture. So your sea plants and fish are still there.
21. Which tool is needed for Step 1?
A. A paintbrush. B. Different crayons. C. A small bowl.
22. Which picture shows what you do in Step 2?
A. B. C.
23. What does the underlined word “it” in the last part mean?

第二步:“Pour a little blue paint into the bowl. Add a bit of water and stir (搅拌) to make your paint a little thinner”,把少许蓝色颜料倒入碗中,加一点水搅拌,让颜料调得稀一点,直接对应了C选项的图片。
最后一段:“Wax resists, or stays away from the paint”,直接说明了蜡会排斥颜料、不跟颜料相溶,it指的是前文提到的颜料。
B
Where does the water in our homes come from? How do people change sea water into fresh water? How does water come into our homes? This passage will answer these questions.
In most places, people get their water from lakes and rivers. The water is usually seen all year round. In some places, people get their water from under the ground. They use wells to get the water. In some other places, windmills (风车) are used to get water from under the ground. In some countryside areas away from the city water supply, people collect rainwater that falls on their roofs (房顶). Pipes from the roofs lead the water into tanks (水箱). The water from rainwater tanks is usually clean enough to drink.
In some countries that are in need of water, fresh water is made from sea water in special treatment factories. This is called desalination (脱盐). In most treatment factories, salt water is heated until it turns into steam (蒸汽) and the salt is left behind. When the steam is cooled, it becomes fresh water. Only a little salt is left in the fresh water. This makes the water taste better and also stops the pure water from taking salts and minerals (矿物质) out of our bodies.
Have you seen tanks or towers on the tops of buildings? These tanks or towers are used for storing clean water. Before the water is put into these tanks or towers, it goes to a water treatment factory. Some water from rivers or lakes is not clean. If we drink it directly, we may be ill. In the water treatment factory, workers make the water clean and safe for people to drink. Then pipes bring the water to our homes.
Water is very important for all living things, but sometimes there is not enough water. We should use water wisely.
24. How does the writer begin the passage?
A. By comparing ideas. B. By giving examples. C. By asking questions.
25. Where do people in most places get water from?
A. Lakes and rivers.
B. Lakes and underground water.
C. Rivers and rainwater.
26. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A. Rainwater. B. Salt water. C. Fresh water.

C 25. A 26. B 27. C

We have many ways to get close to nature, such as dancing in the rain, stepping on fallen leaves or digging in the soil, but my favourite is walking barefoot (赤脚).
Walking barefoot can be enjoyable and helpful. It can help us sleep better and feel rested in mind and body. It can also build our foot muscles (肌肉) and improve our balance. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, walking barefoot can be good for our health.
When you want to try walking barefoot, there’s no need to hurry. At first, walking barefoot for 10 minutes can be fine. After that, add 5 minutes every day until you can walk for 20 to 30 minutes. If your feet hurt, take a break or curtail the time.
Walking barefoot, however, isn’t always safe. People with health problems like flat feet or back pain should avoid this practice. What’s more, walking barefoot in cold or wet environments might cause health problems. To make walking barefoot safe, remember the following points:
●Choose safe places, like soft grass or warm sand.
●Stay away from things like rocks or broken glass.
●Keep shoes at hand if you worry that your feet will get too sore.
●Listen to your body — stop if you feel pain or discomfort.

“What do you think I should do?” asks your friend, as she sits beside you, waiting for your advice. This is no easy situation. Say something your friend disagrees with or something helpless, and you might feel you’ve disappointed her.
It’s human nature to want to offer solutions when someone comes to you with a problem. It’s also easy to fall into the trap of simply saying that “Everything will be OK”. ____36____ But we often say that because we believe we need to say something. This is because we’re glad that our friend has come to us for help, even if we don’t really think we’re able to give it. ____37____ The answer is yes... if it’s done in the right way.
In fact, friends often really only want someone to listen to them. It’s important to try to work out whether they’re actually asking for advice, or simply wanting to talk over whatever is going round in their head. ____38____ There’s no harm in asking whether they’d like you to give suggestions.
It’s also important to be honest. If you’re unable to think of a way to solve your friends’ problem, just say so. Your friends won’t feel upset, and you can still listen carefully and try to put yourself in their shoes. ____39____ You can ask yourself “What would I do if I were to experience the same thing?” Later you can go back to your friends with a few helpful suggestions.
____40____ It can be hard to listen to your friends going over and over the same thing without being able to help them. They will certainly be thankful if you just allow them to “talk it out”, though. Maybe they’re building up courage to take action, and need to convince (说服) themselves they’re doing the right thing. Just being there for them may be all you have to do to make things better.
A. Then you can go away and try to think of something helpful.
B. This is not actually useful for your friend.
C. So is it a good idea to try to give advice at all?
D. You can find someone else to ask for their ideas.
E. Sometimes a problem doesn’t go away overnight.
F. Talking may make people feel better all by themselves.
B 37. C 38. F 39. A 40. E
B“This is not actually useful for your friend”点明这实际上对你的朋友没有用处,与前后文逻辑连贯。
C“So is it a good idea to try to give advice at all?”
F“Talking may make people feel better all by themselves”点明倾诉本身就能让人感觉更好,与前后文衔接自然。
A“Then you can go away and try to think of something helpful”点明然后你可以离开并试着想出一些有帮助的办法,与前后文共同构成完整的应对过程。

A. B. C.

27. What are tanks or towers used for according to the passage?
A. Storing salt. B. Storing pipes. C. Storing clean water.
Walking barefoot is a great way to feel connected with nature, but it’s important to stay safe and consider your own health condition.
28. Which of the following is the writer’s favourite way to get close to nature?
A. Dancing in the rain.
B. Stepping on fallen leaves.
C. Walking without shoes on.
29. What does the underlined word “curtail” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Reduce. B. Make. C. Value.
30. According to the text, remember to ________ when you are walking barefoot.
A. try a cold surface B. find a safe place C. practice on hard rocks
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. The introduction to health problems.

C. The information about walking barefoot.
