We all know that getting the flu is not fun. We will probably get a headache, cough a lot, have a high fever, and have a lot of other aches and pains in our bodies. To help us get well, we should take some cold medicine and get plenty of rest. We should also drink a lot of water and eat foods that will make us get better more quickly.
However, some people would rather not get sick at all. So, they get a flu shot before the flu season starts. The flu shot is a vaccine, not cold medicine. It will protect people from the flu.
The vaccine introduces some of the flu into the body. There’s no need to worry because the flu is dead and won’t make you sick. It will teach your body to know what the flu is so that it can fight the flu off in the future.
Vaccines not only protect you but also others. That’s because they help stop diseases from spreading from person to person. When fewer people have diseases, the chances of getting them yourself go down. Sometimes, the diseases go away altogether.
Some adults are afraid of vaccines though they are quite safe. They are afraid the vaccines will cause terrible side effects. For example, some people think vaccines cause autism in children. However, scientists say that this is simply not true at all.
Vaccines can cause side effects, but they are usually very minimal. For most people, vaccines are all about safety and making their bodies stronger. So, they trust them to do their jobs and want them in their bodies. People in line for the flu vaccines can’t wait for that to happen!
1.Flu vaccines cause autism in children, don’t they?
.
2.Why are some adults afraid of vaccines?
.
3.How do vaccines help protect individuals and other people?
.
4.What does the writer think about vaccines?
.
5.What does the underlined word “that” in the last sentence refer to?
.
6.Do you want to get a flu shot before the flu season starts? Why? (at least two reasons)
【答案】1.No, they don’t. 2.Because they are afraid that the vaccines will cause terrible side effects. 3.They teach bodies to know what the flu is so as to fight the flu off and stop diseases from spreading from person to person. 4.The writer thinks they are safe and have very minimal side effects. 5.It refers to “getting flu vaccines in their bodies.” 6.Yes, I do want to get a flu shot before the flu season starts. First, getting vaccinated helps my body build up antibodies to fight the flu virus, which lowers my chances of getting sick. This is important because catching the flu can make me miss school, sports, or other activities I enjoy. Second, by getting the shot, I also protect people around me, like classmates or family members who might have weaker immune systems, such as young children or elderly relatives. Vaccination isn’t just about personal health—it’s a way to care for our community too!
【导语】本文介绍了流感的症状、治疗方式以及流感疫苗的作用和安全性,指出疫苗不仅保护个人,还能阻止疾病传播,并驳斥了疫苗导致自闭症的错误观点。
1.第五段指出“some people think vaccines cause autism in children. However, scientists say that this is simply not true at all.”,因此流感疫苗并不会导致儿童自闭症,答案为否定。
2.第五段指出“Some adults are afraid of vaccines…They are afraid the vaccines will cause terrible side effects.” 这是原文直接信息。
3.第三段最后一句“It will teach your body to know what the flu is so that it can fight the flu off in the future.”,和第四段前两句“Vaccines not only protect you but also others. That’s because they help stop diseases from spreading from person to person.”说明了疫苗的作用,概括即可。
4.最后一段写道“Vaccines can cause side effects, but they are usually very minimal. For most people, vaccines are all about safety and making their bodies stronger.” 这是作者观点的直接概括。
5.最后一句“People in line for the flu vaccines can’t wait for that to happen!”
The Mystery Locker
①Every student at Riverwood School has a locker, but Mia’s locker is special. Not because of the stickers on the door or the bright blue paint inside—it is special because someone keeps leaving small surprises in it.
②The first gift appeared in September: a tiny paper star with a note, “Hope you smile today.” Mia looked around the hallway, but nobody acted differently. She thought it was a mistake and forgot about it.
③Two weeks later, she found a bookmark with a drawing of a cat. In October, she discovered a packet of hot chocolate. Each item was simple but thoughtful. Her friends joked that she had a “secret locker friend”. Mia liked the idea but still had no clue who it was.
④One rainy morning, Mia arrived at school feeling tired. When she opened her locker, she found a small card: “Rainy days can still be bright. Hang in there—things will get better soon.” There was also a tiny sunflower sticker. For some reason, these words warmed her heart more than the others.
⑤Mia started paying more attention. She noticed that every surprise appeared on days when she seemed stressed or quiet. Someone was watching—but kindly, not in a strange way.
⑥Before the winter holidays, Mia decided to leave a note inside her locker door: “To my secret friend, ”
⑦After the break, she found a final note waiting for her: “You’re welcome. Sometimes people need a little light.”
⑧There was no name, but Mia no longer needed to know. She realized that small acts of kindness can change someone’s day — and that was the real mystery behind the locker.
1.Mia’s locker has stickers on the door, doesn’t it?
2.What was the first gift Mia found in her locker?
3.What idiom in the fourth paragraph means “don’t give up”?
4.When were the surprises most likely to appear?
5.What can be filled in the blank?
6.Do you think the “secret locker friend” did the right thing? Why or why not? (Give 2 reasons)
【答案】1.Yes, it does. 2.A tiny paper star with a note. 3.Hang in there 4.On days when Mia seemed stressed or quiet. 5.Thank you for all your kind surprises. 6.Yes. First, it made Mia feel warm and happy. Second, it taught people the importance of kindness.
【导语】本文讲述了Mia的储物柜总会收到神秘人留下的暖心小惊喜,最终她明白小小的善意举动就能温暖、改变他人一天的暖心故事。
1.根据第①段“Not because of the stickers on the door…”,可以确定Mia的储物柜门上确实贴有贴纸,故作肯定回答。
2.根据第②段“The first gift appeared in September: a tiny paper star with a note”,可直接提取该信息作答。
3.根据第④段“Hang in there—things will get better soon.”,这个固定口语表达的含义就是“坚持下去、不要放弃”,符合题目释义。
4.根据第⑤段“She noticed that every surprise appeared on days when she seemed stressed or quiet”,直接点明惊喜出现的时间。
5.前文Mia一直收到对方的匿名善意礼物,后文对方回复“You’re welcome”,所以空白处Mia的留言核心为表达感谢,合理通顺即可,答案不唯一。
6.本题为开放性主观题,观点言之有理即可。
Discover the Joy of Kidulting: It’s Time to Play!
Do you still get excited when you see a box of colourful crayons? Have you ever secretly wanted to jump into a ball pit? If you answer “yes”, congratulations—you are a “kidult”! It is a fun trend (趋势) where adults do kid things, and it is totally awesome.
Why does everyone suddenly act like a kid again? It is because we are all so busy with work and responsibilities that our brains feel tired. Kidulting helps us remember the good old days when our biggest worry was which cartoon to watch. Missing the past is a powerful thing! Big companies know this, too. Now, you can buy “Happy Meals” designed just for adults with cool toys inside. Who says only kids get the prizes?
Kidulting is not about being childish; it is about being joyful. When you do something fun, like building a Lego castle or playing a video game, your brain releases happy chemicals. These chemicals wash away stress and make you feel alive again. Psychologists say that playing helps us think better and feel more creative. It also gives our overworked minds a much-needed vacation.
Even better, kidulting can also work like a time machine. Maybe when you were little, you couldn’t _________________ or you didn’t _______________________. Buying it now or doing that activity can make those old painful feelings go away. It is like giving a high-five to your younger self.
So, why should you try it? Because being a grown-up is hard work, but finding happiness shouldn’t be! Go ahead, blow some bubbles, laugh at a silly cartoon, or challenge your friends to a game. Life is too short to be serious all the time. Let your inner child come out and play!
1.The word “kidult” is a mix of two single words. What are they?
2.What will a kidult probably like to do, watch cartoons or study in the library?
3.Why has kidulting suddenly become a fun trend?
4.In what way is playing good for us according to psychologists?
5.What examples does the writer use to explain that kidulting can also work like a time machine? Fill in the blanks in paragraph 4.
Maybe when you were little, you or you .
6.What do you think of kidulting? Is Kidulting necessary, or is it just a strange behavior? Why?
【答案】143.They are “kid” and “adult”. 144.Watch cartoons. 145.Because people are busy with work and responsibilities, their brains feel tired. Kidulting helps them remember the good old days of childhood, and missing the past is a powerful driving force. 146.Playing helps us think better, feel more creative, and gives our overworked minds a much-needed vacation. 147. afford a toy you liked have time to play your favorite games (答案不唯一) 148.I think kidulting is necessary. Because modern adults face a lot of pressure from work and life, kidulting can help them relax, release stress, and keep a positive attitude towards life. It’s not strange, but a healthy way to take care of their mental health. (答案不唯一)
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要围绕“成人童趣行为”这一潮流展开,介绍其定义、流行原因、对心理的益处等内容。

5.根据前文“Even better, kidulting can also work like a time machine.”和下文“Buying it now or doing that activity can make those old painful feelings go away. It is like giving a high-five to your younger self.”可知,“time machine”是指童年无法做/拥有的事,成年后可以实现,这是一道开放性的试题,答案不唯一,比如:①afford a toy you liked;②have time to play your favorite games。

Dear Bella,Long time no see. How are you and your three puppies? Do you remember the graduation study tour I told you about? I’ve just returned from Singapore. There’s so much to share!
We spent the first two days at a local school. On Day 1, we had to introduce ourselves in front of everyone. I shook like a leaf. Luckily, everyone encouraged me by clapping and cheering. I made many friends after playing group games. I found that two of my new Singaporean friends love watching music shows just like me!
On Day 2, we had classes with the students. We joined their English, Maths and Science lessons. We learnt about their school life and how it’s different from ours. It was an interesting experience.
We also visited some famous tourist spots. On Day 3, we went to a theme park. Then, we went to Merlion Park. The Merlion has a lion’s head and a fish’s body. I got you a postcard of it! At night, we watched the Supertree music and light show in Gardens by the Bay.
On the last day, we went to a zoo. We saw penguins, giraffes and zebras. I wanted to hear the lions’ roar! Sadly, they were sleeping. Before going to the airport, we visited a hawker centre and had chicken rice. It was delicious!
We should visit Singapore together! Please check when your next holiday is. Bye for now. Let’s keep in touch.
Best wishes,
Jane

Peter kept his eyes on the ground and felt depressed as he walked home. It was the worst day of his life. His mind would not stop thinking about what happened only an hour ago on the school soccer field. How could he have missed scoring that goal? His stupid mistake made him angry. He had let his whole team down and they had lost the game because of him. He was really worried that his coach might kick him off the team.
As soon as he walked through the door, his father asked, “What’s wrong, son?” Peter’s feelings were written all over his face. “I lost the game,” Peter replied. Then he went into his room without another word. Ten minutes later, Peter heard his father knocking on his bedroom door. He opened the door to let him in.
“Look, Peter. I don’t know what happened, but whatever it was, don’t be too hard on yourself.”
“I lost the game, Dad. I failed my team. They’ll probably never let me play again.”
“Soccer is about team effort. You’re not the only reason your team lost. If you have a good team, you support each other. Besides, winning or losing is only half the game. The other half is learning to talk to your teammates and learning from your experience.”
Peter didn’t reply but what his father had said made him think carefully.
The next day, Peter went to soccer practice with courage rather than fear in his heart.
“Hey, guys,” he said to his teammates. “I’m really sorry about yesterday. We were so close to winning that game. But I think if we continue to pull together, we’re going to win the next one.” To his surprise and relief, his teammates all nodded in agreement.

Peter smiled. It made him feel lucky to know that he was on a winning team.

Will We Lose Our Purpose (目标) In The AI Future?
What would life be like if AI solved all your problems? You wouldn’t have to work anymore. You could get anything you wanted by just raising an eyebrow. You could feel pleasure wherever you wanted. Death would become almost optional (可选择的)—you could turn into digital form and keep going for a billion years.
All that sounds terrible to me.
It’s true that humans don’t like problems. But if we had no problems to solve, what would be the point of living? How long would we be happy sitting on top of our big mountains of candy? For me, a long weekend would be enough. A billion years of perfect happiness would feel like a nightmare.
Oxford philosophy (哲学) professor Nick Bostrom believes that even if AI could do everything perfectly, people might still “work” at “jobs” in “offices”. But these jobs would really be more like harmless hobbies.
That wouldn’t be a problem, you might say, as people could stay busy doing other things. They could go shopping, do some gardening or take care of their children. But one reason people find satisfaction in such activities is that they pride themselves on being good at them. They know how to find the right pillow, grow roses or dry a child’s tears. However, AI will probably do these all better than you. In a world like that, you might feel like you’re doing more harm than good to your child if you try parenting on your own.
But life in that “perfect” world might still be bearable (可忍受的), says Bostrom. For example, we could ask our computers to give us interesting challenges. In Greg Egan’s sci-fi novel “Permutation City”, a man forces himself to explore new hobbies every now and then to avoid boredom. He finds joy in making table legs and ends up making 162329 of them.
Bostrom suggests we not jump to conclusions. We might end up liking that future. “The question here is not how interesting a future is to look at, but how good it is to live in.” he says.
1.Does the writer think a life where AI solves all problems would be great?
2.According to Nick Bostrom, what would people’s jobs be more like if AI could do everything perfectly?
3.Why do people feel satisfied when doing activities like shopping or gardening?
4.In the sci-fi novel “Permutation City”, how many table legs did the man make?
5.Which sentence shows that Bostrom doesn’t think we should decide right away whether the future with AI is good or bad?
6.The writer believes a billion years of perfect happiness would feel like a nightmare. Do you agree with the writer’s opinion? Why or why not?
【答案】1.No, she/he doesn’t. 2.They would really be more like harmless hobbies. 3.Because they pride themselves on being good at them. 4.162329. 5.Bostrom suggests we not jump to conclusions. 6.Yes. Because constant perfect happiness removes the meaning of struggle and growth, life will become empty and boring. /No. Because long-lasting happiness can let us enjoy life without suffering from troubles.(答案不唯一,合理即可)

Henan Province, where Chinese civilization began, was a political, economic, and cultural center for over 3,000 years. Four of the eight ancient capitals of China are in today’s Henan: Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, Luoyang and Anyang. Over the past decade, this core region of the Yellow River civilization has been working hard to preserve and promote (保护和推广) traditional Chinese culture. Henan’s cultural products, shows and experiences have captured the attention of the youth.
The blind boxes produced by the Henan Museum have been a big hit. Box buyers are able to experience the excavation process (挖掘过程). Using the small tool included in the box, they are able to “dig” in a big block of earth for a replica (复制品) of an antique from the museum’s collection. The Museum makes full use of its rich cultural resources and combines them with popular elements of today. In enjoying cultural events, people’s cultural confidence is increased. The Henan Museum has made a great deal of progress since it set up a cultural creative products department in early 2019. Selling over 1,600 items, the museum got 42 million yuan in 2021. Some are even sold overseas through the internet and various stores. Another successful example of spreading the influence of the province’s history is The Banquet in the Tang Dynasty Palace, a show that first appeared during last year’s Spring Festival holiday. Female performers dressed in Tang Dynasty (618–907) costumes and in traditional makeup performed a series of dances. The show’s success made people realize that audiences prefer interactive pieces, so the station began to produce a related web series and variety show to attract young viewers and started posting video clips of beautiful performances on short-video platforms. With creative content and cutting-edge technology, the programs satisfy the aesthetic (审美) and emotional needs of Generation Z—people born between the mid-1990s and the early 2010s.
When traditional culture becomes a hit, it means that the younger generation is developing more cultural confidence and need these kinds of cultural offerings (产品). Henan Province’s success tells us we should ________.
1.Henan Province has half of the ancient capitals of China, doesn’t it?
2.How can the blind box buyer dig out the replica?
3.How many items did the museum sell in 2021?
4.What did the station do after the success of The Banquet in the Tang Dynasty Palace?
5.What does Generation Z mean?
6.What can be filled in the blank in the last paragraph?
Henan Province’s success tells us we should .
【答案】1.Yes, it does. 2.Using the small tool included in the box. 3.Over 1,600 items. 4.The station began to produce a related web series and variety show, and started posting video clips of beautiful performances on short-video platforms. 5.People born between the mid-1990s and the early 2010s. 6.preserve and promote traditional Chinese culture (答案不唯一,合理即可,如:continue to combine traditional culture with modern elements and spread traditional culture)

That day, the teacher gave the whole class a special task. “Everyone of you needs to make three handmade presents for your three best friends,” the teacher said. “Tomorrow will be the gift exchange day!” Fiona enjoyed the task of choosing three from her long list of “friends”, and finally picked the ones she often chatted with during lunch breaks. When gifts were exchanged, the students were excited and amazed by those creative presents and warm notes inside. But when all the presents were shared out. Fiona stood in shock, with her hands empty. Tears flowed down her face as she realized no one had chosen her.
“Don’t take it personally! We still like you!” Her classmates came to comfort (安慰) her. They offered quick pats on the shoulder, but soon left. Their hurried comfort was so familiar—it mirrored how Fiona had always rushed between social groups, never staying long enough for meaningful conversations. It suddenly struck her: she had been a good classmate but never a true friend to anyone. Although she tried to be close to everyone, that wasn’t enough to create true friendship.
That night, Fiona told her mother about everything. Her mother wiped her tears gently and said, “My dear, you cannot _____________________ If you want true friends, you must ______________________________.”
As her mother spoke, Fiona recalled countless times she’d put off plans with closer friends to attend “more important” group events. She remembered ignoring a friend’s sadness last month just to join a popular girl’s shopping trip…
She thought a lot that night. She finally understood what true friendship was and made up her mind to make some changes the next day...
1.Fiona used to be confident of her popularity at school, didn’t she?
2.What special task did the teacher offer on International Day of Friendship?
3.How did Fiona feel when all the presents were shared out?
4.Why was the hurried comfort from Fiona’s classmates so familiar to her?
5.How might Fiona make some changes the next day?
6.Fill in the two blanks in Paragraph 5 according to the passage.
“My dear, you cannot . If you want true friends, you must .”
【答案】179.Yes, she did. 180.The teacher asked everyone to make three handmade presents for their three best friends. 181.She felt shocked. 182.Because she always rushed between social groups and never stayed long for meaningful conversations. 183.She might stop rushing between social groups and spend more time having meaningful conversations with a few close friends. 184. just be a good classmate (to everyone) build deeper friendships (with a few people)
1.根据第一段“She never doubted her popularity at school”可知,Fiona过去对自己在学校的人气从未怀疑过,即她曾经对自己的人气很自信。
2.根据第二段“Everyone of you needs to make three handmade presents for your three best friends…Tomorrow will be the gift exchange day!”可知,老师布置的任务是为三个最好的朋友制作手工礼物,第二天进行礼物交换。
3.根据第三段“Fiona stood in shock, with her hands empty. Tears flowed down her face”可知,当所有礼物都交换完毕而她手里空空的时,她感到震惊。
4.根据第四段“Their hurried comfort was so familiar—it mirrored how Fiona had always rushed between social groups, never staying long enough for meaningful conversations.”
6.根据第四段Fiona的反思:“she had been a good classmate but never a true friend to anyone. Although she tried to be close to everyone, that wasn’t enough to create true friendship.”可知,母亲要告诉Fiona:你不能只是对每个人都友好。如果你想要真正的朋友,你必须花时间与少数人建立真诚的关系。
Dario and his mother loved their new apartment. The living room was large enough for their piano. One night, the two of them sat side by side at the piano. They played jazz music to celebrate their new home. The loud music filled the room and made them feel very happy.
The next morning, however, their happiness disappeared. Someone had left a note under their door during the night. One of their neighbours had written to complain about the sound of the piano. Dario’s mother asked the building superintendent (管理员) if he knew anything about it. But he said that they were all nice people and he couldn’t imagine any of them had done that. Later that morning, Dario suggested that they write a letter to their neighbours and apologize for their playing.
“Maybe we could go and visit everyone in person,” his mother said.
“How about inviting them to come here for a party instead?” Dario asked.
They both loved the idea. Over the next few days. They sent out invitations and prepared desserts for their guests. They decorated the apartment with streamers (彩带) and party lights.
In the end, the day of the party arrived. Some guests brought presents and flowers, and others brought desserts to share. One woman, Mrs Gilbert, gave Dario’s mother a book of piano music by Chopin.
“I heard you playing the other night,” she said. “The sounds woke me out of bed. I was afraid that you might play like this every night. So I wrote a short note. I hope you don’t think I disliked the playing.”
Dario’s mother smiled at Mrs Gilbert. “I think maybe we should apologize to you.” She said. “I didn’t realize how late it was when we were playing. Maybe we should play some quieter music at night.”
“I like what you play! Just try not to be so loud at night,” Mrs Gilbert said. She pointed to the book she had given them. “These songs are not such loud music.”
“These songs are beautiful music.” Dario’s mother said. “We will be happy to play them in the evening.”
“And we won’t play so loud or late!” Dario said. He was already looking forward to practicing the new music. More than that, however, he was happy to see the big smile on his mother’s face. It gave him a feeling of warmth and made him feel that they were home at last.
1.Was the jazz music Dario and his mother played loud one night?
2.Did Dario and his mother visit their neighbours or write a letter to their neighbours?
3.What did Dario and his mother do to the neighbours later?
4.Who wrote a short note to Dario and his mother?
5.Why did Mrs Gilbert send them a book of piano music by Chopin?
6.What can you learn from the story?
【答案】1.Yes, it was. 2.Neither. 3.They invited their neighbours to a party. 4.Mrs Gilbert. 5.Because the songs were not loud music. 6.Communication and understanding can help solve problems between neighbours.
【导语】本文讲述了Dario和母亲因弹琴声音过大引起邻居不满,但他们通过邀请邻居参加聚会的方式化解矛盾,并学会了互相理解和体谅的故事。
1.根据第一段“The loud music filled the room”可知,他们弹奏的爵士乐声音很大。故填Yes, it was.
2.根据第二段“Dario suggested that they write a letter to their neighbours”和第三段“Maybe we could go and visit everyone in person”及后文两人同意邀请邻居来聚会的想法可知,他们既没有写信也没有拜访邻居,而是采取了聚会的方式。故填Neither.
3.根据第四段“How about inviting them to come here for a party instead?”及下文描述可知,他们后来邀请邻居们参加聚会。故填They invited their neighbours to a party.
4.根据第六段“One woman, Mrs Gilbert, gave Dario’s mother a book of piano music by Chopin.”及后文对话可知,写便条的人是Mrs Gilbert。故填Mrs Gilbert.
5.根据Mrs Gilbert的话“These songs are not such loud music.”可知,她送肖邦钢琴曲集是因为这些曲子声音不大,适合晚上演奏。故填Because the songs were not loud music.
6.本题为开放性问题,可从沟通、理解、友善解决问题等角度总结启示。故填Communication and understanding can help solve problems between neighbours.

Why?

“Yeah,” they said, “don’t worry about it. It’s never just one person’s fault. We should think about ________.”
Peter smiled. It made him feel lucky to know that he was on a winning team.
1.What sport did Peter play?
2.Why did Peter feel angry and worried that day?
3.According to Peter’s father, what makes a good team?
4.What advice did Peter’s father give him?
5.What can be filled in the blank to complete the sentence?
6.Why did Peter think he was on a winning team?
In a small village in Yunnan, there lives a young man named Li Wei. He was once a migrant worker in a big city, but he decided to return to his hometown two years ago. His goal was to use the Internet to help villagers sell their oranges.

1.Did Li Wei return to his hometown as a migrant worker?
2.What did Li Wei use to help villagers sell oranges?
3.How did Li Wei show the orange orchards in his videos?
4.How many oranges did the villagers sell in the first year compared to before?
5.Why did the villagers change their minds about selling fruits online?
6.Do you think young people should return to their hometowns to work? Why or why not?
