After what seemed a century, we finally spotted a ship in the distance. As the ship was drawing near, we could see clearly it was Shackleton's ship with his crew members on board. Feeling extremely excited, we waved to them, tears rolling down. Every one of us jumped up and down, full of delight shining on our faces. With their assistance, we successfully went aboard the ship. Looking back, the endless pain we had suffered in the past four months finally paid off. If we hadn't held our belief in survival or if we had lost hope, diving into a bad mood, then the whole picture would have been totally different. It was our determination and perseverance that pulled us through. This was literally an unforgettable episode in my life.

the useful expressions.
This story is about the 1914-1916 expedition by Ernest Shackleton to make the first land crossing of Antarctica.
Ernest Shackleton and his crew went aboard the ship named Endurance. As they approached Antarctica, unfortunately, their ship got stuck in the ice, sinking into the sea. Having abandoned the ship, they escaped to Elephant Island. As there wasn't any chance of being rescued on Elephant Island, Shackleton ventured more than 1,300 kilometers with five of his men to search for help. The crew left behind had to face the extreme weather and cold as well as a dangerous environment and all with limited supplies. All of this added to the mental challenge, but they maintained a positive state of mind, and their perseverance and faith in Shackleton was rewarded—they were finally rescued.
What I like most about this story is that although their expedition failed in achieving its goal, it was not the disaster it could have been. This was due to Shackleton’s courage in facing adversity and the crew’s endurance and perseverance in surviving for so long. In a word, I have learned an important lesson from the inspiring story. That is, whatever difficulties we meet, face them positively and never give up.
