A.lines B.fooled C. strict D.stressful E. secretly

The film has many fun moments, but the ending feels a little long, and the story is not always exciting. Still, the message of the film is easy to understand: do not be 8 by a cute face—babies can be very powerful.

Over the past few years, keyboards have quietly replaced everyday handwriting. However, research shows that writing by hand has some special 1 that digital tools can’t give us.
When we write, we hold a pen with our fingers, press it on paper, and move our hands to create letters and words. It requires a lot of our 2 . Writing by hand uses many of our senses. This has been shown to support reading and spelling in children.
Adults can also get a lot from handwriting. A study of 42 adults learning Arabic (阿拉伯语) found that those who wrote the letters by hand could 3 them faster than those who typed or just looked at them. This is because handwriting can make our brain more 4 , helping us learn more quickly and remember things longer.
A.exercise B.smaller C. compare D.result E. efficiently
Scientists 5 our brain to a road system. They say brain networks in children are like small roads. With practice and experience, these small roads can become highways (高速公路) that link different parts of the brain. This allows information to travel more 6 .
In a recent study, scientists made a new discovery. The whole brain worked when participants were writing by hand. But 7 areas worked when they were typing. This suggests that handwriting makes our brain “work harder”. Therefore, researchers are encouraging the continuous use of pen and paper. Keeping handwriting is very good 8 for the brain. It helps us learn and think better.

Super-agers are special people. They are 80 years old or older, but they have amazing memories. Their ability to remember things is like those 20 to 30 years 1 .
Super-agers are very different from each other. They don’t all eat the same food or do the same 2 . But scientists found one thing they all share. They think social relationships are very important. Most super-agers are also outgoing people who like being with others.
This discovery isn’t a big 3 for brain scientists. People who spend time with others are more protected from memory problems as they get older. They also have bigger brains.
Scientists think socializing helps protect the brain. When people are lonely, their body makes stress hormones (应激激素). If stress hormones stay high for a long time, they can cause swelling (肿胀) in the brain. This can 4 brains and cause memory loss.
A.essential B.positive C. completely D.mainly E. work out
Almost all 80-year-olds may have brain disease, but super-agers have very little. Scientists who study healthy 100-year-olds say they are also outgoing and have a/an 5 attitude about life.
However, there is still a question. Do people socialize more because they have good memories? Or does socializing give people better memories? Scientists are still trying to 6 the answer.
Scientists believe that genetics (遗传学) and biology are the 7 reasons for becoming a super-ager. Although being social helps protect the brain, you probably can’t become a super-ager just by spending more time with people. The amazing memory ability seems to come 8 from the genes you are born with.

The 1938 play Gas Light and the movie made from it in 1944 show a husband trying to make his wife think she’s crazy, so he can get her family’s jewellery. He makes her believe that what she thinks is real, but it 1 isn’t. For example, the gas-powered lights in their house get dark when he’s not home, but he makes her believe that it’s only her imagination. This movie introduced the word “gaslighting”, which means a kind of abuse (虐待).
In fact, gaslighting can show up in many different ways. A gaslighter may not admit doing things they really did. This can lead the victim (受害者) to believe that they have a poor
2 . They might also say the victim is too weak or that their ideas come from an unreliable source. Gaslighting is thought to be a 3 of psychological (心理的) abuse.
Gaslighting develops gradually. Some gaslighters seem very kind 4 . Then the gaslighter may begin to lie about simple things, slowly increasing the amount of false information. Victims of gaslighting finally feel not safe and begin to doubt themselves.
A.recognize B.helpful C. own D.against E. apologize
Gaslighting is a way of control that makes the victim rely on the gaslighter. Victims may allow the gaslighter to make decisions. They may ask the gaslighter what happened in the past, doubting their 5 thoughts. This lack of confidence also often keeps the victim from leaving the relationship.
As a matter of fact, it can be difficult for victims to 6 gaslighting. Then what can people do? victims can take pictures, keep a secret diary or record voice notes soon after an event happens. Telling someone about the situation is also 7 if that person can keep it a secret.
Signs of this abuse can also show up in the victim’s behavior. They might frequently ask what has happened, or they may even believe that they are going crazy. They may often 8 and, at the same time, try to protect the gaslighter. All the stuff they do shows signs of gaslighting.
Gaslighting may not hurt the body directly, but it can make people feel bad about themselves and prevent people from achieving success. So we must take it seriously.
