plush(毛绒玩具)with long ears and an“x”mouth..
Miffy was created by a Dutch artist,Dick Bruna. His
drawings look simple, but every line has meaning
I found the plush last summer in a little bookstore

When people get old, they retire().The same thing happens for power
batteries(电池)in new energy cars. But after these batteries“retire”,they can be recycled..
Recently,China has put out 22 national standards for recycling power batteries.
As batteries get older,they don't work as well.At a 75 percent capacity(),they
are near the end of their life in a car. Some metals()in the used batteries are bad for
people. They may also cause a fire or explosion(),according to the Australian Electric
Vehicle Council.
Recycling the batteries is helpful. For example,China needs a lot of lithium(),
importing()about 5.25 million tons in 2024.Recycling lithium from used batteries
can reduce the need for imports,as reported by Xinhua.
When it comes to recycling, hydrometallurgical recycling(湿法治金回收)is a main
way. This makes it easy to collect the metals. But this could lead to waste water and gas.
Many companies are trying to solve this problem. For example,a new energy carmaker
has developed a kind of new technology which makes the harmful gases from
hydrometallurgical recycling disappear after a second burn and quick cooling. This helps
protect the environment.Scientists are also working on better ways to recycle batteries so
that fewer harmful things are produced.
4.What happens when a power battery's capacity drops to 75%?
A.It still works like a new one.
B.It won't be used for long.
C.It will never cause a fire.
5.Why is recycling the batteries helpful in China?
A.Because China has much lithium.
B.Because lithium is cheap to buy.
C.Because it can help reduce imports.
6.What does the underlined word "this"in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Hydrometallurgical recycling.B.The battery.
C.The carmaker.
7.What can we infer()about the future of battery recycling from the last paragraph?

Before you read this article, let's take a look at a sentence in Chinese::“研表究明,汉
字序顺并不定一影阅响读。”Did you notice that some of the characters in this sentence
are in the wrong order? You might not realize it,but your brain can read and understand
most sentences, even when the words are in the wrong order.
This may have something to do with psychology(心理学),according to Chen Qingrong
from Nanjing Normal University.
When we're first learning how to read,we read word by word. But after we become
more experienced,we read in full phrases and even sentences.People can read five to six
words at one time,Chen told the Yangtse Evening Post. Also,as experienced readers,we
take the things we're familiar with for granted(把当作理所当然).We don't pay as much
attention to small details, such as word order.
Therefore, when we read the sentence at the beginning of this article, the content(
was already familiar to us.So we read it the way we think it should be in our memory,
with all the words in the right order. This is like when we see a person with long hair,we
think the person is a girl without taking a closer look, according to Chen.
This can be also seen in many other languages, such as English.Read the following
sentence:"This is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey Iteter by istlef, but the
word as a wlohe.”
It is believed that humans remember the meanings of words mostly by their shape and
layout(),rather than the order of the letters,Matt Davis of Cambridge University
told The Independent.
However,.we cannot read scrambled(顺序打乱的)sentences as quickly and efficiently
(高效地)as we read normal text, according to The Daily Telegraph.
8.How does the writer start this article?
A.By telling a story.
B.By asking a question.C.By giving an example
9.What's Chen Qingrong's opinion?
A.We should read word by word if we want to be good readers.
B.Experienced readers pay less attention on small details
C.Our brain can't understand the words in wrong order.
10.Why does the writer give the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5?
A.To show we can understand English by the shape.
B.To show it is easier to make mistakes in English.
C.To tell us we mustn't be careless when writing.
11.What's the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.The importance of learning English more
B.The good point of an experienced reader.
C.The problem of words being in wrong order.

Is there a way to quickly recall()information just
before taking an exam?Walking backward(might help
you.Scientists from the University of Roehampton in the UK
said this activity can help people improve their short-term
memory.

asked to watch a video. After watching the video, the
volunteers were divided into three groups. One group was
told to walk 10 meters forward. The second group walked 10
Walking backward
meters backward.The third group didn't move.All three
groups were then asked 20 questions about what they saw in the video.
The scientists found that the backward-walking group got two more answers correct
on average than the other two groups.
This tells us that time and space help our brains form memories together."Time is
really expressed through space,"Aleksandar, who led to study, told the Daily Mail. When
you walk backward, you see things from a different angle().This difference helps
people recall things that happened in the past.
And walking backward is also good for the rest of our body.Compared to walking
forward, walking backward is more chalienging. This can help us improve our fitness,
according to New Scientist.Walking backward uses more energy in a short time and
burns more calories(卡路里).
In addition, walking backward is less stressful for our knees. It could be helpful for
people who often have pain in their knees, according to researchers from the University of
Oregon in the US.Walking backward also keeps our spines()strong,which can help
to reduce pain in the lower back. This might be why many old people like walking
backward.
12.Which group has the best memory according to the passage?
A.Group 1.
B.Group 2.
C.Group 3.
13.What's the meaning of the underlined words "in addition"in Paragraph 6?
A.Besides.
B.Even so.
C.Though.
14.What's the right structure(for this passage?
A.Reason-Test-Result-Finding-Advantages.
B.Finding-Test-Result-Reason-Advantages.
C.Test-Finding-Reason-Result-Advantages.
15.What's the best ending for the passage?
A.Let's keep a good habit of exercising every day!

isn't just about making the emperor look better.20 Using the correct pictures shows
