One day, Lila and her best friend Maya were playing a game when Lila suddenly fell down. Maya laughed, thinking Lila was just playful and that it didn’t hurt at all, but Lila didn’t see it that way. She felt embarrassed (尴尬的). Without thinking, Lila got angry at Maya, calling her names and pushing her away. Maya was hurt and didn’t understand why, and she ran off crying. Lila was left alone, feeling sorry about her actions.
That night, Lila couldn’t sleep. She kept thinking about what she had done to Maya. She knew she had to make things right, but she didn’t know how.
The next day, Lila went into the forest, hoping to find a way to control her anger and make up with Maya. She saw a wise old owl (猫头鹰) in a tree. “Hello, young girl,” the owl said. “What brings you here?” Lila explained her situation to the owl. “Anger is powerful,” the owl said. “It can be helpful in encouraging us to take action, but it can also drive us to strike out (猛烈攻击) and hurt others and ourselves. The key is to learn how to control it.” The owl then gave Lila a small stone and asked her to carry it with her, saying that whenever she felt angry, she could hold it in her hand and take three deep breaths.
It wasn’t easy at first, but with practice, Lila learned how to control her anger and think before she acted. She also said sorry to Maya and promised never to let her anger hurt Maya again. Maya forgave her, and they became even closer than before.

Are you a curious person?
If you often want to learn more about something, then you probably are. But as American researcher Perry Zurn points out, not all curious minds are cut from the same cloth. There are at least three styles of curiosity: “busybodies”, “hunters” and “dancers”.
“Busybodies” like to collect lots of information on all kinds of topics. They’re not looking for any certain goal. Instead, they’re just interested in the world around them. “Hunters,” however, go after detailed answers. They follow a clear way to reach their goals. “Dancers” jump at new ideas or mix old ones in new ways. They prefer to take the road less traveled.
Zurn and his team went on to see how these curiosity styles play in real life. They focused on readers of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia (维基百科), Their research included 482,000 people from 50 countries. For each person, the team looked at how many different topics he or she read about and how closely those topics were connected.
The results showed that all three types of curious minds are among today’s internet users. “Busybodies” read widely, but they especially liked sports, food and the arts. “Hunters” cared more about science and technology. Interestingly, they were more likely to feel stressed than the other two types after their curious hunt. That’s probably because they had a stronger drive to fill in the blanks in their knowledge.
Zurn says we are each born with a natural curiosity style. However, our style isn’t set in stone. We can develop the other two styles by spending time with teachers or friends who think differently. That’s good news. After all, curiosity works best when all three styles are in one mind.
25. How does the writer start the text?
A. By telling a fact. B. By asking a question.
C. By telling a story. D. By using an old saying.
26. How are “hunters” different from the other two styles of curiosity?
A. They search a new path. B. They follow a clear goal.
C. They take untraveled paths. D. They collect lots of knowledge.
27. What did the team focus on when studying curiosity styles?
A. The topics that people read about. B. The large number of Wikipedia users.
C. The time that people spend online. D. The social behaviors of Wikipedia users.
28. If Tim likes doing sports and reading a lot, he is likely to be a “________”.
A. busybody B. hunter C. dancer D. researcher
29. Why does the author write this text?
A. To explain why hunters feel more stressed.
B. To show how Wikipedia helps curiosity study.
C. To teach readers how to become more curious.
D. To show curiosity can be shaped and developed.
【答案】25. B 26. B 27. A 28. A 29. D

You already take many notes, but now you’re wondering how to develop your note-taking skills and start taking notes that are better for you. Here are some note-taking ways you can use.
Pay attention to key words. The most important change you can make is to pay attention to taking down key words. Write down the most relevant (相关的) key words or phrases to the topic. Don’t waste time writing down information that you have already known. Pay attention to new information that you’ve never learned before. This will be the most valuable (有价值的) for your note-taking.
Use shorthand (速记). Developing your own way of shorthand writing can help you to write quickly and avoid falling behind. Try writing things like “wd” for “would”, “cd” for “could” and “wi” for “with”. Also, try to shorten long words that appear again and again.
Make your notes tidier. You will not go back and study your notes if they are difficult to read! Always start on a fresh page. You’ll find your notes much easier to read if you start on a fresh page for each new class or topic. It is helpful to use different forms in order not to forget key ideas.

That night, Lila couldn’t sleep. She kept thinking about what she had done to Maya. She knew she had to make things right, but she didn’t know how.
The next day, Lila went into the forest, hoping to find a way to control her anger and make up with Maya. The key is to learn how to control it.” The owl then gave Lila a small stone and asked her to carry it with her, saying that whenever she felt angry, she could hold it in her hand and take three deep breaths.
