Don’t worry about your waste. Reuse and recycle your things with Ridwell!
How it works
We give you bags to store your stuff (物品) like batteries, plastic, worn clothes, light bulbs and more! These are things you throw away without good recycling or reuse ways.
We come to your front door every two weeks to get back the bag and make sure your stuff finds a new home.
Together, Ridwell members save tons from the landfill (垃圾填埋厂) every year to support our community, keep our oceans clean and build a brighter future.
▲
I love, love, love being able to recycle stuff that would be thrown away and end up in a landfill! Thanks for giving us the chance to do something for the environment!
—Teri
Keeping waste out of our landfill needs knowledge, time, and hard work. Ridwell makes it easy to recycle and pass along things we no longer need.
—Lisa

When plastic was first made around 1870, people thought it was amazing and called it an “environmental hero”! It was light, long-lasting and cheap. It quickly replaced (取代) wood and other natural materials. Not surprisingly, plastic has now filled our lives, too. We can find it in bags, toothbrushes, mobile phones, houses... It certainly has thousands of uses.
But slowly and silently, plastic has shown its dark side. Plastic waste has become a danger to sea animals. Some animals like whales eat it by mistake and die. The “hero” of the past now kills over 100,000 sea animals each year. By 2050, there could be even more plastic in the sea than fish.
Plastic also causes problems on land. Birds’ wings get tied in plastic lines. Bears’ heads get stuck in plastic bins. Even humans are eating plastic waste! On average (平均来看), we eat five grams of plastic a week. That’s a whole bank card! Tiny pieces of plastic are found in the air. There is even plastic “snow” at the South and North Poles (南北极). On “Earth Plastic”, nowhere is safe from plastic.
Moreover, getting free of plastic waste isn’t easy. It may take thousands of years to break down. So hiding the waste in the ground doesn’t help. Burning it also produces thick smoke and causes air pollution.
Plastic is not just causing an environmental problem. It means life and death for humans and for the future of the Earth. Everyone knows there is only one Earth. So let’s live without plastic!
33.What did people think of plastic when it first appeared?
A.It was a great material. B.It was bad for the environment.
C.It was too heavy to use. D.It could be used for a short time.
34.What is the main idea of paragraphs 2~3?
A.Sea animals can’t avoid eating plastic. B.There will be less plastic in the sea.
C.Bears often look for food in plastic bins. D.Plastic waste harms the environment.
35.Why is it hard to get free of plastic waste?
A.It takes a long time to break down. B.Hiding the waste needs much space.
C.It costs the government too much money. D.Burning plastic causes water pollution.
36.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce different uses of plastic. B.To ask people to stop using plastic.
C.To explain why we need another Earth. D.To show plastic makes our life easier.
【答案】33.A 34.D 35.A 36.B

There are robots all around us. Some do very complicated jobs like flying airplanes and driving trains and some do a s 46 job. When an automatic washing machine is switched on, water pours in. The machine waits u 47 the water is hot before washing the clothes. It does this by “feedback’. Information about what is happening is “feedback” into the robot to tell it w 48 to do next.
Our eyes, ears and other s 49 are our feedback. They tell us what is going on around us. So robots are like people in two ways: they work and they have feedback.
There are robots all around making our lives easier. Some of them, like the pocket calculator, can work f 50 more quickly than human beings can. And they rarely make mistakes.
In some ways robots are better than people. They work quickly, but do not make mistakes: They do not get b 51 with doing the same job over and over again. And they never get tired.
Robots are very useful in factories. They can be taught to do many d 52 jobs. First their electronic brains must be shown how the job is done. A person moves the robot’s “arm” and “hand” t 53 each part of the job. The robot’s brain remembers each move. When the robot is put to work on its own, its brain controls the rods, wheels and motors which move its arm.
When the robot is needed for a n 54 job, its electronic memory is “wiped clean”. Then it is taught how to do its new task.
The most “intelligent” robots can move and see. Their eyes are cameras. Their metal fingers can f 55 shapes and even find out how hot and cold objects are. These robots have computer brains, linked to their eyes and fingers, which control their actions.

Between 2016 and 2020, China created 201 national wetland parks. China had 899 national wetland parks by the end of 2020, and nearly half of the country’s wetlands are protected by some level of government.”

A Chinese boy named Yue Kailang climbed a mountain to draw attention to climate change. For 14 days, Yue experienced all these like snowstorms and a freezing temperature of -20℃ while climbing Mount Muztagata in Xinjiang. The 16-year-old boy from Beijing finally reached the top of the mountain at 7,546 metres.
Yue was the youngest in the “Climate Action” climbing team. The project’s goal was to make people realize the danger of global warming by visiting snowy mountains
“I loved nature when I was a kid. I often climbed mountains in Beijing. In recent years, more and more news reports have talked about the environment being destroyed (破坏), and I feel upset about it,” said Yue.
“Mount Muztagata is an ideal place to research climate change because there are large areas of mountain glaciers,” said Yue.
Along the way, Yue collected snow samples, which was part of the project’s tasks. The samples will be given to scientists to study how air pollution forms.
“We say ‘saving Earth’ every day, but I think taking real action is more important than just talking,” said Yue. “I hope my story can draw more young people’s attention to the serious problem of global warming. What I’ve experienced has shown that global warming is really not far away.”
