Write a passage about how people change nature. While-writing Step 1 Think of one example of people changing nature. Do research and find some interesting facts. Nature gives us many resources. For a long time, humans have changed nature to live better. Some changes are helpful, but others bring problems. Humans do many things to change nature. We build houses and cities, farm more land and develop new technology. These changes make our life easier and more comfortable. However, if we change nature too much, serious problems will appear. People cut down lots of trees and pollute air and water. As a result, wild animals lose their homes and our environment becomes worse and worse. In my opinion, we should use nature in a wise way. We can make proper While-writing changes to meet our needs, but we must never damage the earth. It is our duty to protect nature. Only in this way can humans live in harmony with nature forever. 三、高分万能短语 change and remake nature 改造自然 make our life easier 让生活更便利 cut down trees 砍伐树木 build factories and cities 建造工厂与城市 develop new technology 发展科技 cause pollution 造成污染 lose their homes 失去家园 live in harmony with nature 与自然和谐共处 protect the environment 保护环境 四、万能句型 Humans have changed nature for a long time. While-writing We try our best to make life better by changing nature. However, too much change brings many problems. It is important for us to use nature wisely. We should protect nature while developing our life. Step 2 Write your passage with the help of the chart. Opening Introduce the topic. What is the system / idea of changing nature? Where is it? When did it start? Body Further explain the system / idea. What are some amazing facts? How does the system / idea work? Ending Share the importance of the system / idea and summarise your thoughts. How important is it? Will people keep it in the future? While-writing Step 2 Write your passage with the help of the chart. The Three Gorges Dam The Three Gorges Dam is a huge project. It shows how people change nature. It's built across the Yangtze River in central China. People started planning it in the 20th century. The main building work began in 1994. The Three Gorges Dam is really amazing in engineering. It's about 2,335 metres long and 185 metres high. When the reservoir (水库) is full, it can hold a lot of water. It really lowers the chance of big floods downstream (下游). Before, floods in the Yangtze River destroyed many houses and hurt people. While-writing The dam controls how the Yangtze River flows. When it rains a lot, the dam stores water. In dry seasons, it lets water out. This helps fight floods and gives water for drinking, farming and factories. There's also a big hydroelectric (水力发电的) power station here. The moving water makes turbines (涡轮机) spin (旋转) to produce electricity. This cuts down on using fossil fuels. The Three Gorges Dam is very important. It protects millions of people from floods. It provides steady (稳定的) water and clean energy. People will keep using and taking care of it. But we need to watch out for how it affects the environment, like changes to ecosystems. This way, the project can keep helping and hurt nature less. Post-writing Step 3 Check. Did you: clearly explain how the system / idea works? use the words and expressions from the reading passage? give your opinion about changing nature? Step 4 Share your passage with the class. 04 Vocabulary probably /ˈprɒbəbli/ adv. He will probably come late. 1. probable /ˈprɒbəbl/adj. It is probable that he will win. 2. probability /ˌprɒbəˈbɪləti/n. There is a high probability of snow tomorrow. He will probably pass the exam. Maybe he is at home. Perhaps we can go there together. crazy /ˈkreɪzi/ adj. It is a crazy idea. be crazy about … He is crazy about playing basketball. The noise drives me crazy. crazily /ˈkreɪzɪli/adv. He ran crazily down the street. She's crazy about dancing. Don't be mad at me. survive /səˈvaɪv/ v. He was the only one to survive the accident. survive from… Some old traditions still survive from ancient times. survive on… He survives on bread and water every day. survive sth. 中挺过来 例句:Few buildings survived the big fire. 1. survival /səˈvaɪvl/n. 生存;幸存 例句:His survival was surprising. 2. survivor /səˈvaɪvə(r)/n. The survivors were sent to hospital at once. underground /ˈʌndəɡraʊnd/ adj. There is an underground room in the house. The animal went underground to keep safe. underground adv. 在地下 例句:The water flows underground. underground n. I take the underground to school every day. The pipe is underground. below:只表示在…… The sun is below the clouds. among /əˈmʌŋ/ prep. She is among the best students in our class. He speaks French, Japanese, among others. among the best/worst This song is among the most popular this year. increase /ˈɪnkriːs/ v. The population continues to increase. increase by … 例句:The number of students increased by 20%. increase to … 例句:The temperature increased to 30℃. There has been an increase in traffic. 1. increasing adj. There is an increasing number of cars. 2. increasingly adv. It is becoming increasingly difficult. 3. decrease v. & n. The number of animals is decreasing. The cost increased a lot. increase vs. rise increase:可作及物动词,可直接加宾语 例句:We increased the price. 05 Homework Review the key words and phrases of this lesson.
