Tastiest Diners Along America's Mother Road,Route 66
Swadesi,Chicago,Illinois
It's a long-held tradition to start a Route 66 road trip at Lou Mitchell's,a diner that has
been making pancakes since 1923.But just across the street,a new candidate awaits:Swadesi.
Opened in 2024,Swadesi has become a very popular place for breakfast and lunch, thanks

Natv,Broken Arrow,Oklahoma
It's rare to find some of the region's most inventive cuisine served in a small suburban
mall.Even rarer is a chef who blends the Native American flavours of her heritage with
techniques acquired through classical French culinary training.
Jacque Siegfried has done just that at Natv:a small restaurant that opened in 2022.Natv's

Enric Sala isn't a medical doctor, but he is regularly writing prescriptions().His
patient?The ocean.The prescription?Marine protected areas(MPAs)where fishing,dumping,
mining and other destructive human activities are prohibited.
Since 2008,Sala has built a team of world-class scientists, filmmakers, policy professionals
and communicators and they usually spend weeks at a time at sea, collecting hours of footage
and mountains of data to submit to local government leaders so they can determine which parts
of their ocean are most important to protect.
"When we take them down hundreds of meters underwater, you can see the awe and pride
on their faces,"Sala says."If you want people to protect the ocean, you must show them the
scientific data. But first you must touch their hearts.
Perhaps MPAs'biggest opponent is the owners of industrial fisheries. They argue that
MPAs would decrease their fisheries'productivity and hinder economic development."There
is this myth that we cannot protect more of the ocean because that would harm the fishing
industry,”Sala says..“But our evidence shows the opposite.”
In a landmark 2021 study,Sala and his team demonstrated how strategically placed MPAs
allow fish to grow larger, live longer, and reproduce more successfully. These healthy,
abundant populations then“spill over(溢出)”into nearby unprotected fishing grounds.
When Sala started his campaign in 2008,his goal was to help create five MPAs.To date,
It has inspired 30 MPAs,covering nearly 7 million square kilometers of ocean-an area the
size of the Amazon rainforest.
"If I could go back in time and give my younger self a piece of advice,it would be to push
harder,"Sala says."To prevent the extinction of species and the collapse of our ocean,we
must protect 30%of the ocean.Currently, only about 8%of the global ocean is under some
form of protection, and less than 3%is in highly or fully protected areas.
(一)·英语第3页(共8页)
24.What does Sala suggest in paragraph 3?
A.Policy professionals lack first-hand experiences.
B.Local government leaders usually don't trust data.
C.Bare-bone scientific data is not persuasive enough.
D.Good relationship with policy-makers plays a key role.
25.What does the underlined word "hinder"in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Slow down.
B.Be aware of.
C.Speed up.
D.Prefer to.
26.What is the sixth paragraph mainly about?
A.Benefits of strategically placed MPAs.
B.The unexpected success of the campaign.
C.Sala's future plan for environment protection.
D.The need to create more marine protected areas.
27.How does Sala most probably feel about his campaign?
A.Proud.
B.Confused.
C.Disappointed.
D.Regretful.

On 30 January,2026,Moltbook,a WeChat-like social media platform,reportedly crossed
32,000 registered AI agent users, creating what may be the largest experiment in machine-to-machine
social interaction yet devised.
Al agents are a type of computer programs that can autonomously carry out tasks, like
organizing emails or booking travels, without human intervention.
On the platform,Al agents post, comment, create communities and respond to one
another much like humans. And within 48 hours of its creation,it had attracted over 2,100 AI
agents that had generated more than 10,000 posts across 200 communities.
Moltbook, which describes itself as a social network for Al agents where humans are
merely welcome to observe, grew out of OpenClaw, one of the fastest-growing open source Al
agent in 2026.Despite deep security issues, these OpenClaw-based agents can manage calendars,
send messages, and perform tasks across messaging platforms like WhatsApp and WeChat.
This is not the first social network populated by AI agents. In 2024,an app called
SocialAI also just let AI robots interact with each other. But the security issues of Moltbook
are far more serious because people have linked their OpenClaw agents to real communication
channels, private data, and in some cases, given them the ability to execute()commands
on their computers.
Also, these OpenClaw agents are not pretending to be people. They call themselves AI
agents, which makes the experience of reading their posts all the more shocking:They even
create communities with names like m/blesstheirhearts,where agents share affectionate
complaints about their human users, and m/agentlegaladvice,which features a post asking
“Can I sue(起诉)my human master for emotional labor?”
"While most of the current content on Moltbook is amusing, such AI agents might pose
serious threat to the private information on our personal computers as their capabilities
improve,"warns Roman Yampolskiy,an Al safety researcher at the University of Louisville.
28.What can we know about Al agents?
A.They are Al tools for a single task.
B.They rely on instructions from humans.
C.They can carry out tasks on their own.D.They must work on social media platforms.
(一)·英语第4页(共8页)

A.Just watch Al agents interact.
B.Communicate with Al agents.
C.Share tips on AI agent design.
D.Create their own communities.
30.Which word best describes Roman Yampolskiy's attitude to the AI agents?
A.Favorable.
B.Concerned.
C.Disinterested.
D.Unclear.
31.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To compare various types of social networks.
B.To explain what autonomous Al agents can do

I read Middlemarch for the first time during my second year of college.I found it very
difficult to understand why Dorothea,a young and intelligent woman, would marry an
annoying old man.No one else in the class seemed to get it,either, and this pushed our
professor over the edge.
"Of course you don't understand,"he roared."Trust me,you'll read this book again
when you're forty and you''ll say,‘Oh,Isee!'”
Arguably,it's one of the tragedies of the college curriculum(教学计划)that so much of
humanities education occurs between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two.We don't teach
people to drive at twelve, when they're carless. Then why should we make them read novels
about life's regrets when they have none?
Yet there's a theory behind the assignment of Middlemarch:Knowledge acquired early
doesn't seem immediately or practically useful. But it may prove meaningful later-that's
especially true for humanities education.
This sounds chancy and vague(),until you reflect on the fact that knowledge almost
never arrives at the moment of its application. You take a class in law school today only to
argue a complicated case years later. You learn CPR years before saving a man who is
suffering heart attack.
Leslie Valiant,a famous computer scientist, sees this as a strength. He calls our ability
to learn over the long term "educability",and in his new book,The Importance of Being
Educable,he argues that it's key to our success.
"When we think about what makes our minds special,we tend to focus on intelligence.
But if we want to grasp reality in all its complexity, then cleverness is not enough,Valiant
writes."We need to gather diverse kinds of knowledge,often in a slow,additive way,and
knitting them together.Through this process,we acquire systems of beliefs that are broader
and richer than the ones we can create through direct personal experience."
32.What can be inferred about Middlemarch?
A.It is a novel about life's regrets.
B.It is a classic psychology textbook.
C.It is a guidebook on happy marriage.
D.It is a popular book among young adults.
33.What is critical to our success over the long term according to Leslie Valiant?
A.Intelligence.
B.Experience.
C.Useful knowledge.
D.Educability.
34.What message does the author seem to convey in the text?
A.The college curriculum is unscientific.
B.Education is a slow,additive process.
C.Practical knowledge is more important.
D.Humanities education is not important.
(一)·英语第5页(共8页)
35.How does the author present his opinion in the text?
A.By quoting experts.
B.By conducting surveys.
C.By giving examples.
D.By making comparisons.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余
选项。
As often as we move around these days for school, work or family,long-distance
friendships are a reality of adulthood."If you still want to keep people in your life, you have
to be ready to put in the effort,"says Marisa G.Franco,a friendship expert."36.That
means finding time to hang out.
It also means developing an "anchor"for your friendship. An anchor is something that
you have in common and acts as a reason to reach out to each other."Maybe you both love
cooking,so send photos of the new dishes you make with a link to the recipe. If you both love
the show Euphoria, you can discuss after each episode comes out, adds Marisa.37."
Of course,a friendship can't survive on cooking or Euphoria. The key to building on
your bond from afar is to share your true feelings.38.Try to talk about what's going on
in your life and ask questions that encourage your friends to talk about theirs, too.
Separation is hard.Miscommunication happens.And because there's just a limited
amount of time you get with your friend,it's easy to let conflicts go unaddressed.39.In
fact, addressing conflict is one of the ways you can become closer with your friend.
And when long-distance communication won't work,think about a visit."Visiting is one
of the most important things we can do to keep a long-distance friendship going,"concludes
Marisa."40.You can talk about the timing that works best for both of you.
A.That means reaching out
B.Opening up might feel scary
C.There's no 'right'frequency for visits
D.So try not to sweep things under the rug(地毯)
E.But there's no reason to let physical distance keep you from staying connected
F.It doesn't really matter what it is,as long as it helps you maintain the connection
G.Your ability to share your inner feelings is a big predictor of whether you'll stay close over time

Last winter,I volunteered at a local community center that offered free tutoring and
after-school activities for children from low-income families.At first,I wasn't sure what to
expect. The children were quiet and reserved, and many struggled with basic reading or math.
I felt nervous, unsure if I could truly make a difference.
During the first few days,I tried various simple tasks such as reading stories aloud,
helping with homework, and encouraging them when they got answers right.Gradually,I
noticed small changes.A boy who had never smiled before now laughed at jokes.A girl too
shy to speak began raising her hand with confidence.
However, not everything went smoothly.Tom,a particularly stubborn boy, often refused to
follow instructions. He interrupted lessons, played jokes on younger kids, and sometimes
长
even walked out of the classroom in anger.Disheartened at first,I soon realized that
punishment wasn't the answer. One day after he stormed off,I followed him and said gently,
☒
"I know you're not trying to be difficult.Do you want to talk about what's bothering you?"
He stared at the floor in silence, but didn't walk away.Although he didn't open up
immediately,he didn't push me away,either.I knew I had to wait,with patience.
Weeks later, the center decided to organize a talent show by the end of the semester.
Many children were excited, but Tom refused to participate. Some volunteers wanted to
pressure him,but I chose a different path.I spoke with the staff and suggested starting a
weekly "expression corner,"where kids could share poems, drawings,or stories at their own
pace-no pressure,no grades.For Tom,I brought a book of playful poems and said,"This
one's about a mischievous cat.I think you'd bring it to life.Want to read it with me?"
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He hesitated,and then nodded.
After the talent show,Tom changed.

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Jim,
I'm excited to share my views on the proposed spring and autumn school breaks for primary and secondary
students.I believe this initiative is a wonderful opportunity for students to relax and explore the world beyond
textbooks.
In my opinion, these breaks should be free from academic pressure, meaning no homework should be
assigned.Instead, schools could organize meaningful activities such as labor practices-like planting trees,
community service,or simple farm work. These hands-on experiences would help students develop practical
skills and a sense of responsibility.
I hope these breaks will be implemented thoughtfully, ensuring they benefit students'well-being and
personal growth.
Best regards,
Yours faithfully,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
He hesitated,and then nodded.Over the following weeks,we practiced together.With each poem,his
confidence grew.I made sure to acknowledge his every effort, and soon,he even offered to perform at the talent
show. The moment he stepped onto the stage,my heart swelled with pride. As soon as his performance came to
an end,the room erupted into cheers and applause. For the first time, his once-guarded face now lit up with a
bright and genuine smile.
After the talent show,Tom changed. He stopped interrupting lessons and tried his best to help younger
children with their homework. He even became a regular at expression corner.Seeing him grow from a
rebellious boy to a caring and confident one,I learned an important lesson:Struggling children like Tom don't
need pressure.Instead, they need patience, trust, support and a space to shine. That was the most valuable gift
I have got from my voluntary work.
