A British woman who won a $1 million prize after she was named the World’s Best Teacher will use the cash to bring inspirational figures into UK schools.
Andria, a north London secondary school teacher, said she wanted to bring about a classroom revolution (变革). “We are going to make a change,” she said. “I’ve started a project to improve the teaching of the arts in our schools.”
The project results from the difficulties many schools have in getting artists of any sort—whether an up-and-coming local musician or a major movie star—into schools to work with and inspire children.
Andria has worked on the project at Alperton Community School, her place of work for the past twelve years. “I’ve seen those magic moments when children are talking to someone they are inspired by their eyes are shining and their faces light up,” she said. “We need artists more than ever in our schools.”
Artist Michael said: “Andria’s brilliant project to bring artists from all fields into direct contact with children is particularly welcome at a time when the arts are being downgraded (低估) in schools.” “It was a mistake to see the arts as unnecessary,” he added.

Passage 2
(24-25九年级上·天津南开·月考)Billy spent each day on the streets, begging for money to buy food. Every day, as he started thinking about his life, he sometimes heard the sound of a coin or two dropping into his cup. One day, the noise was louder than usual. When he looked into the cup, he could hardly believe what he saw. At the bottom was a shining diamond (钻) ring.
Billy’s first thought was to go straight to a jeweler’s and that was exactly what he did. He was offered $4,000! Billy thought long and hard. Was this a mistake? It was more money than he’d seen in a long time. But then he thought about his grandfather, who had always taught him to do the right thing, so he knew he had to reconsider. His mind was firm (坚定的). He’d keep the ring and maybe one day its owner would return.

根据“She explained that when she dropped the coins into his cup, she’d forgotten to put it in her purse.” 故选A。
Passage 3
(24-25九年级上·天津和平·月考)People often say that the Englishman’s home is his castle. They mean that the home is very important and personal to him. Most people in Britain live in houses rather than flats, and many people own their homes. This means that they can make them individual; they can paint them, and change them in any way they like. Most houses have a garden, even if it is a very small one, and the garden is usually loved. The house and the garden are the private space of the individual.
People usually like to mark their space. Are you sitting now in your home or on a train? Have you marked the space around yourself as yours? If you are on the train you may put your coat or small bag on the seat beside you. If you share a flat you may have one corner or chair which is your own.
Once I was travelling on a train to London. I was in a section for four people and there was a table between us. The man opposite to me had his briefcase on the table. There was no space on my side of the table at all. I was angry. Maybe he thought that he owned the whole table. I had read a book about non-verbal communication, so I took various papers out of my bag and put them on his briefcase! When I did this he stiffened and his eyes nearly popped (瞪出) out of his head. I had invaded (侵犯) his space! A few minutes later, I took my papers off his case in order to read them. He immediately moved his case to his side of the table. Of course, it is possible that he just wanted to be helpful to me!
If you are visiting another country, you may feel that you don’t have any private space. Hotel rooms look much the same in every country in the world. All day long, you share public spaces with other people. You see the local people in their private spaces and you feel lonely and “outside”. Local people can create their private spaces by talking about things you don’t know about. And you even feel that they like you to be outside them so that they will enjoy being inside even more! This is one of the difficulties of being a traveler! But if you understand it then it helps you. Haven’t you enjoyed being part of a group and “owning” a bit of space?
11.The writer was angry as he was travelling on a train to London because ________.
A.he had no place to sit
B.someone had invaded his “space”
C.too many people shared a section with him
D.some other people talked about things he didn’t know about

13.In Paragraph 4, the pronoun “they” refers to (所指) “________”.
A.public spaces B.private spaces C.local people D.other countries
14.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.British people dislike marking their space.
B.You always feel at home in another country.

15.The main purpose of the passage is to tell readers to ________.

根据前一句“Local people can create their private spaces by talking about things you don’t know about.”
根据“Most people in Britain live in houses rather than flats, and many people own their homes.”
根据“But if you understand it then it helps you. Haven’t you enjoyed being part of a group and ‘owning’ a bit of space?”
Passage 4
Skateboarding Changes My Life
On my 35th birthday, I gave myself my first skateboard. Most of my friends and family thought I was crazy, but only I knew why.
Two years ago, I accidentally fell down a 12-meter waterfall and broke my pelvis. I went from using a wheelchair to using crutches, then to trying to walk a block, and finally walking miles. Physical activity became even more important in my life. So why not make it enjoyable? I’ve wanted to learn to skateboard since I was a kid, but most of my time and energy went into dancing. In my opinion, skating was actually very similar to dancing.
For a long time, I tried to learn skating on my own. I had no idea what I was doing and always felt awkward when many strangers saw me skating or simply trying to keep my balance. That fear of being judged often stopped me from just getting out there for practice.
One day, my friend Monica and I met some of the members of GRLSWIRL, a skateboarding club. They were so friendly that we wanted to be part of it. This club was amazing. Even though everyone there was better than me, they were happy to help and excited to see me overcome challenges. There, I gradually became more confident.
For me, a big part of skating was overcoming my PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Falling is a huge part of skating, but because of that accident, it was really hard for me to overcome it. However, the more I learned from every little fall — allowing my body to understand that it was OK, and that I could drop and get up again — the less my PTSD took over. The more I skated, the better my body and mind felt. Although I started skating for therapy, I never imagined it would open up a new world of excitement and possibilities for me.
16.Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 2?
A.The author didn’t spend much time dancing. B.The author used to be a good skateboarder.
C.The author had a car accident two years ago. D.The author put in a lot of effort to walk again.
17.What does the underlined word “awkward” in Paragraph 3 mean?
18.When did the author become confident?
A.After she joined the club. B.After she got good at skateboarding.
C.After she wrote a letter to her uncle. D.After she achieved good results in the game.
19.Why was it hard for the author to overcome falling while skating?
A.Her doctor had wanted her not to fall. B.Falling would be laughed at by others.
C.She didn’t want to hurt her leg again. D.The past experience left her with bad feelings.
20.What did the author think of skateboarding?
A.It would be her life work. B.It was a light on her road of life.
C.It was something she had to do. D.It was the reason for her to get her life back.

A项“会成为她一生的事业”、C项“是她必须做的事”、D项“是她找回生活的原因”均不符合文中“never imagined it would open up a new world”的表述。

At the beginning of the second year of middle school, his school offered rock climbing lessons in order to encourage students to exercise. He was so happy that he joined in at once.
In the first lesson, the coach said, “Rock climbing needs strength, speed, courage and persistence (坚持). All these are necessary.” But in Bob’s opinion, rock climbing was just a fun activity. It interested him.

Passage 1
Do you know light pollution? In modern society, too much light has started to influence the environment. Light pollution is influencing human health and wildlife behaviors. There is a worldwide movement to reduce light pollution, and everyone can help.
Light pollution problem became especially serious when the World Map of Night Sky Brightness came out in 2016. Large areas of North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia are shining with light, while only Siberia, the Sahara, and the Amazon are in total darkness.
Man-made light can break natural body rhythms (节奏) in humans badly. An increased amount of light at night lowers melatonin (褪黑素) production, which results in less sleep, headaches, stress and other health problems. Blue light, in particular (尤其) , has been shown to reduce levels of melatonin in humans. It is found in cell phones, other electronic devices and LEDs.
Studies show that light pollution is also influencing animal behaviors. Because of light pollution, sea turtles lose their way, and often die when they migrate from one place to another. Even animals living under the deep sea may be influenced by underwater man-made light. Studies show that man-made light is changing ocean ecosystems.
The good news is that light pollution is reversible (可逆的) and each one of us can make a difference! Now, many people are taking action to reduce light pollution and bring back the natural night sky. People are required to use outdoor lighting only when and where it is needed.

Passage 2
(2026·天津河北·一模)For thousands of years, the mystery (奥秘) of how the pyramids were built in the huge Sahara Desert (沙漠) has left scientists scratching their heads (感到困惑), but now they think they’ve found the answer.
A team of scientists from the University of North Carolina believe that 31 of the pyramids, including the famous Great Pyramid of Giza, were probably built along a part of the River Nile that has been lost for a long time.
For years, scientists have thought that ancient Egyptians used a waterway nearby, but Eman Ghoneim, who led the study, says nobody was certain about the location of it.
The team used special technology, historical maps and samples (样本) from the ground to find the hidden part of the River Nile under the sand. They believe this was used to transport (运输) heavy stones (石头) and tools to build the pyramids. But over time, sandstorms covered it and it dried up.

Passage 3
People are interested in animal communication and scientists have done lots of research on this subject.
Most animals always use body language to communicate. If cats look and blink (眨眼) at you slowly, it shows their love to you. You can also do this to show your love. When they sit with tails around themselves, they’re happy. If they feel scared, their tails may look like the end of toilet brushes. When they put ears back, they are a bit mad. Birds can show feelings through eyes and feathers. If birds make their pupils (瞳孔) large and small from time to time, this can be a sign that they’re excited or scared or angry. Birds will ruffle (弄乱) their feathers when they clean themselves. However, if their feathers remain ruffled, it may mean they are ill. You’d better take them to see a veterinarian in an animal hospital.
Some animals communicate by smell. Dogs are famous for this. They can learn about something by smelling. They can find missing people by using their fantastic sense of smell. They have helped the police for a long time. Mice have an excellent sense of smell, too. Scientists even train them to find landmines (地雷). It is found that even ants use smell. They use smell to tell other ants where the food is.
Frogs and insects communicate by sounds. Usually the “gentlemen” make sounds to invite the “ladies”. Whales and elephants also use sounds to communicate. These sounds can travel very far through water or ground, but it is impossible for humans to hear some of the sounds.

Passage 4
We use bricks to make houses on Earth, but what about building things on the moon? Well, you use “lunar bricks”, of course!
Scientists at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) have developed “lunar bricks”. They hope to use the bricks to build a base on the moon.
To make the bricks, the scientists used a simulated (模拟的) lunar soil. The bricks are three times stronger than normal bricks or red bricks. They also have mortise and tenon joint structures (榫卯结构), which were used in ancient Chinese buildings. This makes it possible to simply put these bricks together, just like Lego.
Professor Zhou Cheng from HUST told Xinhua that they had tested five different kinds of simulated lunar soil and used three ways to harden them. This helped them choose the best materials for making the bricks. Lunar soil isn’t the same everywhere on the moon, Zhou added. For example, one of the kinds tested simulates the lunar soil at the landing site of Chang’e 5, which is mainly basalt (玄武岩).
The lunar bricks need to be tested well before being used because the moon has a terrible environment. Quakes (月震) often happen there, and radiation is high. It gets as hot as 180°C during the day and as cold as-190°C at night.
The lunar bricks were sent to China’s space station on the Tianzhou 8 spacecraft. There, scientists checked how well the bricks did in space.
The first brick has returned to the Earth. China hopes to build a lunar research station between 2028 and 2035.

Passage 5
Plant coral Before You Leave
Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) are often seen as the forests under the sea, as they are home to many sea animals. They are not only amazing to see, but they also protect the health of the water body and support the people who depend on them in many important ways.
However, these natural wonders are going downhill quickly due to rising ocean temperatures, pollution, overfishing, and other harmful human activities. To help protect them, a resort in Bali, Indonesia, is inviting its guests to plant coral before leaving.
The St. Regis Bali Resort has teamed up with an organization to give a new life to the coral reefs near its coast. They are working to restore the reefs using a method called MARRS. It involves man-made reef systems called “reef stars”, which are put together like a web on the seabed near other live coral. The “reef stars” are covered by sand and resins (树脂) and have local coral on them. These create an environment that encourages other coral and sea life to live here. So far, this method has been used in many places to help rebuild coral reefs.
The resort believes that many hands make light work, so it invites its guests to take part. As the resort says, guests can receive and plant their own “reef stars” on the seabed, which creates a personal connection to ocean protection.
The resort’s environmental efforts go beyond coral restoration. It also organizes coastal clean-ups and educates guests about using reef-safe products.
These actions—involving more people in protecting the environment—are more than just projects. They are a strong reminder that caring for our planet is everyone’s responsibility.
21.Why are coral reefs often called the forests under the sea?
A.Because they look like forests on the land.
B.Because they are home to many sea animals.
C.Because they can produce oxygen like forests.

22.Which of the following is NOT the reason for coral reefs going downhill?
A.Rising ocean temperatures. B.Ocean pollution.
C.Overfishing. D.Natural disasters.

B.Using man-made reef systems called“reef stars”.
C.Cleaning the seabed every day.
D.Stopping guests from touching coral reefs.
24.What can we infer from the St. Regis Bali Resort’s actions?
A.The resort only cares about coral restoration.
B.Guests can make a personal connection to ocean protection by planting coral.
C.The “reef stars” can’t help other coral and sea life live.
D.The MARRS method is useless for rebuilding coral reefs.
25.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.To introduce the beautiful coral reefs in Bali.
B.To tell us why coral reefs are important to the earth.
C.To show how a Bali resort helps protect coral reefs and call on everyone to protect the planet.
D.To explain the MARRS method and how it works.

Ashley was outspoken, fashionable, and the “Queen Bee” in my school.
I looked up to her and admired her. I listened to the music she listened to, wore the clothes she wore. I even took art class though I really wanted to take theatre. I finally joined in her group.
One day, I skipped (溜走) out of my last class a few minutes early to get seats for our group at the dining hall. While doing my homework, I didn’t notice they sat down behind me. Before I could say a word, I realized what they were talking about. I listened silently. “She’s such a loser,” one girl said. Another girl added, “Ashley, she always follows you, trying to copy you.” “I wish she would leave us alone. We were in the same summer school and now it’s funny that she thinks we’re best friends. Ha ha...” Ashley’s voice sounded so cold and strange.
I felt very sad. My hands were shaking, and I couldn’t help crying sadly. I felt heart-broken for the very first time. How did this happen? I thought we were friends.
I ran home. My mother just held me while I cried for hours. The advice she gave was so simple and I had heard it a million times. “Just be yourself and people will like you for who you are.” This time it became so meaningful. Then and there I decided to find myself back. That was exactly what I did.
Over the next month, I went through a lot of changes. I bought new clothes that I wanted to wear. I no longer went to art class with them, but took theatre. I began making new friends. I developed my own opinions and never again followed the crowd.

Passage 2
When you cough or sneeze (打喷嚏), you’d better turn your head away from others and cover your mouth with your hand. And then, you should say “Excuse me”.
This seems simple, however, it is surprising that many parents have never told their kids to do this. Actually, I notice adults all the time who cough and sneeze in public without placing a hand over their mouth. One important thing I point out to the kids is that after they sneeze or cough on their hands, they should wash them as soon as possible. If not, they will pass those germs (细菌) along to everything and everyone they touch.
If you come to a door and someone is following you, hold the door. If the door opens by pulling, pull it open, stand to the side and allow the other person to pass through first, then you can walk through. If the door opens by pushing, hold the door after you pass through.
At school, I noticed that some kids got through doors without paying any attention to the people behind them. I knew I had to discuss the problem with my kids. Teaching them small acts of kindness, such as letting someone else go through a door first as they hold it open, may seem unimportant, but it can go a long way towards helping kids realise how to be polite and thank others. Once they’ve been told, they’re halfway there.
When we have to go up moving stairs, we should stand to the right. That will give others who are in a hurry a choice of walking up the left-hand side of the moving stairs. When we are going to enter a lift, the underground or a doorway, we will wait for others to leave before we enter. We should behave (举止) politely in order to make way for others.

Should books always have a happy ending?
The purpose of World Book Day is to encourage people to enjoy reading and there’s no doubt that a book’s ending is usually a big part of that joy. Even so, there are plenty of stories that don’t finish on a happy note. What do you think? Should books always have a happy ending?
Part of the reason we read in the first place is that reading makes us happy. We read to get away from troubles and worries in real life. If your reading experiences are full of sadness or other negative feelings, you may give up reading. If your experiences of reading are connected to positive feelings, you could be encouraged to carry on reading. It doesn’t mean stories with happy endings cannot make you enjoy reading. They can also include surprises, which make the stories quite dramatic and exciting, although you know everything’s going to end well. Exploring love into the characters’ lives is equally as satisfying.
In real life, the story doesn’t stop at the “happy ending”. It doesn’t end. It keeps going past that happy moment to a lifetime of more moments both good and bad. Books with unhappy endings are useful because they show you the true feelings such as sadness but in a controlled way. They can help you deal with these feelings in your life. The stories explore the painful side of love and the topic of heartbreak. Reading about these kinds of things in stories can help make us feel like we’re not alone in our personal experiences. Some experts say that experiencing negative feelings can make you better at understanding how other people are feeling. This ability, known as empathy (同情), helps you to connect with people and support them through hard times. It’s the “unhappy” endings that have the greatest influence.

Did you know that birds can also get “road rage (路怒症)”? A research team from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in the UK visited the Galapagos Islands (加拉帕戈斯群岛) to do a study. They found that car noises make birds 41 .
The Galapagos Islands are on the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean, and are 42 to a large number of animals and plants. Many of them are not found anywhere else in the world.
The scientists studied a very common type of yellow warbler (黄莺) in the area. The places that they looked at were either 50 or 100 meters away from the 43 . In each location, scientists played recorded (录制的) traffic noise to the yellow warblers to see how they behaved.

What’s more, the yellow warblers living 50 meters away from the road were loud and angry. For example, they got very 45 to the speaker and flew across it over and over again. Those 100 meters away from the noise, however, were 46 .

Two days later, a young woman came to him and asked if he’d found anything unusual in his cup. Billy reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring. When he saw the smile on the woman’s face, he knew he’d made the right decision. She explained that when she dropped the coins into his cup, she’d forgotten to put it in her purse.

This hidden part of the River Nile is called “Ahramat”, which means “pyramids” in the Arabic language. It’s thought it was about 39 miles long and between 200 and 700 metres wide. Before it got covered in sand, this river was next to the pyramids built between 4,700 and 3,700 years ago.
The team says discovering this lost part of the river helps explain how there are so many pyramids in such a challenging (挑战性的) desert place. It’s like solving a big puzzle (不解之谜) from long ago!

A.They wanted to find materials.
B.The simulant is different from real lunar soil.
C.The soil on the moon changes from place to place.
D.They wanted to find the best basalt for the bricks.
19.What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.Why lunar bricks need to be tested. B.How the lunar bricks were made.

D.Because they are as large as forests.
22.Which of the following is NOT the reason for coral reefs going downhill?
A.Rising ocean temperatures. B.Ocean pollution.
C.Overfishing. D.Natural disasters.
23.What does the method MARRS involve?
A.Planting trees near the coast.

I had an amazing school year. When I look back, I think it was the year when I discovered the person I was going to be. Despite (尽管) the pain I felt that day, it was a gift they gave me.

6.After we sneeze or cough, we should say .

8.If the door opens by pushing, we should .

It’s the “unhappy” endings that have the greatest influence.

learned Chinese painting skills. The teacher told us to respect and love traditional culture, and taught us patiently.
With her help,I finally finished a painting of bamboo. After that,I visited and enjoyed many wonderful paintings in
the museum.I think such activities are meaningful because they help us understand Chinese culture better and
make our life more colorful.I hope more people can join these activities to experience the charm of traditional
culture together
