For the past ten years, Dra has worked as a protector of a wetland near Mapam Yumco Lake, in China’s Xizang.
Each morning on a working day, Dra circles the lake to patrol (巡逻) the area. “A notebook to record wildlife numbers, along with the weather and water level and rubbish bags to collect litter are in my hand,” he said. He also takes his “life-saving bag”: food, drinking water, a thick coat, and some small tools to save wild animals in need.
Known as the “Mother of Rivers”, Mapam Yumco Lake feeds many rivers. Today, Dra is one of the 90 protectors. The protectors’ tasks are simple: patrol the area, record details (细节) and deal with danger. In February last year, the protectors discovered an eagle with a broken wing. They carefully moved the bird to a rescue (救助) center. Then they fed it and treated its injuries (受伤处) until it was strong enough to fly again. This July, Dra and his co-workers saved a wild yak (牦牛).
Beyond rescues, protectors need to remind tourists not to litter, not to drive across grasslands, and to take away their waste. “In the past, there used to be a lot of litter in the wetland. There were fewer wild animals,” Dra said. Thanks to the protectors’ efforts, the wetland’s ecosystem has improved a lot.

Hair was once my biggest problem. While my classmates had long and silky hair down their backs, my hair was short and curly. I was quite embarrassed (尴尬的).
“Your hair doesn’t embarrass you. It is beautiful,” my mother would try to comfort me. However, her support did little to calm me. Why couldn’t I have long hair like everyone else? I wanted to fit in and be accepted.
It wasn’t that I hated my hair, but rather I believed others did. I was afraid my classmates would think it was ugly. I also worried if they learned I wore extensions (假发片), I would be judged. This was a secret for me. At school, I faced lots of questions about my hair. “Does your hair ever grow? Are those extensions or your real hair?”
In the 10th grade, I changed. I realized I had two choices. I could either believe my classmates were truly curious or consider the questions as judgments. Actually, their opinions didn’t matter. I could choose not to base my happiness on what I believed others thought of me, but on my own standards.
Over the next two years, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone (舒适区) and was active in different school or social activities. There I was surrounded by different people. Wearing my natural hair, I made it my goal to stand out. I developed into a more confident person. I no longer live my life limited (限制) by what I believe others think of me. I don’t hide behind extensions and if I choose to wear them, I do so proudly and no longer keep it a secret. Now, I wear my hair and live my life however I want to.
9. What did the writer’s hair look like?
A. Long and curly. B. Short and curly. C. Long and silky. D. Short and straight.
10. Why did the author wear hair extensions?
A. Because her mother asked her to do so.
B. Because she wanted to make her hair curlier.
C. Because she wanted to fit in and be accepted.
D. Because all her classmates wore extensions.
11. What can we infer about the writer now?
A. She still worries about what others think of her.
B. She has become more confident and true to herself.
C. She prefers wearing extensions to feel more beautiful.
D. She doesn’t wear extensions any longer.
12. What is the text mainly about?
A. The writer’s changes in her thinking. B. The writer’s different hairstyles.
C. The story of the writer and her classmates. D. The writer’s school life.
【答案】9. B 10. C 11. B 12. A

Every day, a common big city may lose a huge lot of water. That’s enough to fill over 1,200 Olympic swimming pools! Most of this water leaks (泄漏) from old pipes (管道) under the streets.
Right now, the only way to check underground pipes is by digging up roads. This takes many days and costs a lot of money. It may cause trouble for nearby homes and shops, too. People have to wait without water until repairs are done.
To fix the problem, engineers in China came up with a smart idea. They built tiny robots called Pipebots. The tiny robots have cameras and sensors (传感器). Each robot is only 4 cm wide. They can go into pipes through fire hydrants (消防栓). Inside, they crawl to look for leaks. They can’t go fast or they may miss the leaks. They send all the information to engineers above ground while going. In this way, the engineers can know exactly where the problems are.
Pipebots work in groups. They can check large areas very quickly. Some robots can even fix small leaks on their own. They can check not only water pipes but also sewers (下水道) and gas pipes. By finding problems early, the robots stop big leaks and save money.
Now, engineers are testing Pipebots in sewers and highway drains (高速公路排水沟). These tests help engineers make the robots even better. One day, many Pipebots could watch pipe networks all over the world. Tiny robots can do big work!
13. According to the text, a lot of water is lost every day because ________.
A. engineers are testing robots B. old pipes under the streets leak seriously
C. too many homes and shops use water D. too much water is used for filling the pools

C. How much water is lost. D. How Pipebots work and help.

A. To explain the reason why cities lose much water.
B. To compare old and new pipe-checking ways.
C. To show how Pipebots work together.
D. To introduce an invention for checking & fixing pipes.
【答案】13. B 14. A 15. D 16. D

Do you know what positive thinking is? Do you think it is important? When you face difficulties, have you ever been told to “look on the bright side”? ____17____ But what does it really mean, and why does it matter? Let’s find out.
What is positive thinking?
____18____ You spend more time thinking about what you want to happen, and less time worrying about what you want to avoid.
Why does it matter?
Your brain can’t deal with everything around you. ____19____ When you think positively, you might notice good things you have missed. This widens your focus and helps you learn more.
Can it help with difficult times?
Yes! When your team loses a game, negative thinking makes you feel upset and puts stress on your body that can harm your health. However, positive thinking can help you remember the fun parts and keeps you active. It can also stop you from feeling worse.
____20____
Start by paying attention to your words. Instead of saying “I can’t do this,” try saying “I’ll give it my best shot.” Also, surround yourself with positive people. Their energy can influence how you think. Finally, practice gratitude (感恩之情)—write down one good thing that happened to you each day. Over time, your brain will get used to looking for the bright side naturally.
A. It means focusing on the good parts of any situation.
B. That’s a simple example of positive thinking.
C. It really needs to have a good rest.
D. So it has to choose what to focus on.

【18题详解】
第二段小标题“什么是积极思考?”,空白处后具体解释“你花更多时间思考你想要发生的事情,更少担心你想要避免的事情”。因此空白处应给出积极思考的定义。选项A“It means focusing on the good parts of any situation.”
D“So it has to choose what to focus on.” 与上下文形成因果关系,逻辑紧密。
【20题详解】
最后一段给出具体做法:注意言语、与积极的人相处、练习感恩。因此本段小标题应为“如何培养积极思考?”。选项E“How can you develop it?” 准确概括本段内容,与前几个小标题(“是什么”“为什么”“能否帮助”)形成逻辑递进。

Artificial intelligence or AI (人工智能) is improving the travel experience for visitors in China. AI is changing how people travel in China, too. It acts as a “digital guide” for foreigners exploring the country.
Beni, a university student from Africa, used an AI app to plan a three-day trip to Beijing, focusing on the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Within seconds, the app provided a complete travel line, including transportation, accommodation (住宿), tourist attractions, and local food suggestions. “It’s like having a local friend to guide you personally,” he said.
Henry, a travel vlogger (视频博主), also finds AI can help him so much during his trips. “AI reminds me of places I might otherwise miss because I didn’t know where it was. Now AI shows me places of interest and explains their history in easy words,” he shared.
In Taiyuan, a student visited an old palace. She used an AI app’s visual (视觉) recognition function (功能) to face its walls. The app recognized the building and told her stories about its 500-year history. “Learning about old places is now as easy as taking a photo!” she laughed.
A girl who makes travel videos uses AI to write scripts (剧本). “AI not only helps me avoid mistakes about culture and history, but also speeds up my work,” she noted.

Today, the wetland is home to many plants and animals. “Watching animals living safely here, I know that my work is so meaningful. I feel a sense of achievement that nothing else can match,” Dra said.

Today, AI is like a magic helper for travelers. It makes trips smarter, faster, and more fun. So everyone can explore China’s beauty and stories!
