You've heard that plastic is polluting the
oceans-between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes
enter ocean ecosystems every year. But does
one plastic straw or cup really make a
difference?Artist Benjamin Von Wong wants
you to know that it does.He builds massive
sculptures out of plastic garbage,forcing
viewers to re-examine their relationship to
single-use plastic products.
At the beginning of the year, the artist
built a piece called"Strawpocalypse,"a pair of
10-foot-tall plastic waves,frozen mid-crash.
Made of 168,000 plastic straws collected from
several volunteer beach cleanups,the sculpture
made its first appearance at the Estella Place
shopping center in Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam.
Just 9%of global plastic waste is
recycled.Plastic straws are by no means the
biggest source(来源)of plastic pollution,but
they've recently come under fire because most
people don't need them to drink with and,
because of their small size and weight, they
cannot be recycled.Every straw that's part of
Von Wong's artwork likely came from a drink
that someone used for only a few minutes.
Once the drink is gone, the straw will take
centuries to disappear.
In a piece from 2018,Von Wong wanted
to illustrate (a specific statistic:Every
60 seconds,a truckload's worth of plastic
enters the ocean.For this work,titled
“Truckload of Plastic,”Von Wong and a
group of volunteers collected more than 10,
000 pieces of plastic, which were then tied
together to look like they'd been dumped
from a truck all at once.
Von Wong hopes that his work will also
help pressure big companies to reduce their
plastic footprint.

Imagine taking a voyage to the deepest
part of the ocean. What types of thing would
you expect to see?Would you see familiar
animals and plants or find strange and new
ones?
Scientists keep looking for new species
and new facts.1.
Diving deep in the ocean
The deep ocean,1,000 meters below the
surface,is freezing cold.
What's worse,the water pressure can
harm you if you don't have protective devices
on.Therefore,deep divers wear special diving
suits to protect themselves from the water
pressure.2,some of which have robot
arms that can collect samples of water, soil,
and small animals underwater.

from the sensor attached on the animal's fin or
back.3.Besides,scientists can use this
signal to predict the animal's future
movements.
4
What types of animals are in the ocean?
How many are there?Oceanographers studied
and counted animals for ten years to discover
the answers. They looked at all the world's
oceans from the North Pole to the South Pole.
They counted more than 30,000 species in
more than 30 million records.More than 6,000
new species had never been seen before!
However, not all the animals have been

Paragraph 1:
My father shouted at us to run back to the hotel. He grabbed my
hand and pulled me with him.As we reached the hotel gate,we heard a
roaring sound behind us.Quickly,my father pushed us towards the
stairs.Fear gripped us and we reached the first floor when we heard
the roar of rushing water and glass breaking. My father yelled at us to
keep climbing. We stopped on the fourth floor and looked down at the
water below us.It had stopped rising. After some minutes,it began to
drop.
Paragraph 2:
We waited a long time be fore going downstairs.Hardly had the
rushing water dropped when we saw the unrecognizable hotel gate.
There was dirt and broken furniture everywhere. Some people who
were caught in the water were either unconscious or burst into tears
with pain. What we saw weakened our heart and we decided to help the
victims after a narrow escape.Never had I had such a thrilling yet
dangerous vacation before. The special trip to Penang was deeply
impressed in my mind.

weight, they cannot be recycled...Once the drink is gone, the straw
will take centuries to disappear”可知,吸管由于体积小,重量轻,无
Von Wong wants you to know that it does..”

承接上文,并引出下文“some of which have robot arms that can
collect samples of water, soil, and small animals underwater”,下文
3.D[上文“Scientists attach some animals with electronic sensors to
study them. Then,a satellite can track the signal from the sensor
attached on the animal's fin or back.”
4.A
下文“What types of animals are in the ocean? How many are
there?”
故选A。门
5.F[下文“There are many more surprises to come!”

1.B[根据后文“so she tried to set up an organization called Washed
Ashore:Art to Save the Sea”
long to do sth.“渴望做
2.D[根据上文的“Angela never liked seeing plastic waste washed up

of sea
6.D[根据后文“One of the sculptures,.Turtle Ocean'”可知,他们创作
7.A[结合语境可知,后文“How can there be this much waste on the
