Four Family-friendly Autumn Walks in the UK
With the coming of autumn,we have
decided to make a list of autumn walks for you
and the whole family. These places will include
historic buildings,.wonderful scenery(风景)
and wildlife for all to enjoy.
Formby Nature Reserve,Liverpool
Formby is a coastal town just north of
Liverpool and is luckily one of the few places
in Britain where there are a large number of
red squirrels(松鼠).Children will love the
excitement of getting to see these cute
animals.The paths(小路)are well protected,
meaning they are fit for pushchairs, and dogs
are allowed too.
Hadrian's Wall,Newcastle
The 73-mile-long Hadrian's Wall was
completed by the Romans in 128 AD after 6
years'building.Autumn walks along
Hadrian's Wall are an excellent way to educate
children on the history of the British Isles and
really get up close to the styles of Roman
buildings, rather than just seeing it in a
textbook
Lyme Park,Peak District
Not only is Lyme Park home to many
trees,it is also home to a group of medieval
(中世纪的)red deer and a huge Edwardian
country manor(庄园).This Peak District
walk is fit for families;and along the way are
playgrounds and tree houses, making sure that
the little ones you are with will never be
bored.
Lakeside Walk at Stowe,Buckinghamshire
This place is on the outskirts of London
and provides people with perfect chances to
escape from the busy city lifestyle. The flat

I was in the seventh grade, and we had
moved to New Jersey in November.By then,
everyone already had had their own friends,
and no one wanted to talk to a new girl.To
make things worse, they put me in "Section
L".I found out later that everyone called
Section L“Loserville”.It was sort of an open
secret that it was the section for
troublemakers and not-so-smart kids.When I
found out,I wanted to scream.I had always
been a good student and had amazing friends,
and now everyone thought I was a loser!
I did text my friends in Illinois almost
every night,especially my best friend,Ana.At
first my friends wanted to hear all about it.But

then some stopped texting back once I said
something about how miserable I was.One
night when I was texting with Ana,I
complained about another friend who had just
done that.
Ana's texts came really fast for the next
few minutes and they surprised me.She said
that she was tired of hearing about how bad
everything was in New Jersey, too. She said
she did not want to hurt my feelings but that I
needed to stop feeling so sorry for myself all
the time.I had to try to make things better.
The next day,I thought a lot about what
Ana had said.She was right!
I wish I could say that everything changed
overnight after that, but it didn't.I was still
stuck in“Loserville”,and some people were
still mean to me,even though I tried to just
stay out of their way.
But what did change was me-I stopped
feeling so sorry for myself and did something
about making friends.I signed up to make sets
for the school play.I met a lot of new people
there, and suddenly I had friends to say hi to in
the halls!
I still miss Illinois sometimes, but life in New
Jersey isn't so hard anymore.Even though I
couldn't change my situation,I could change my
attitude-and that made all the difference.

Normally museums exhibit only a small
proportion of their collections, but the Boijmans
Van Beuningen gallery in Rotterdam is the first in
the world to display the whole lot.
Housed in a huge mirrored bowl-shaped
depot(仓库)attached to the museum in the
Dutch port city, its collection of 151,000
artworks by artists including Vincent Van
Gogh and Oscar-Claude Monet will be accessible to
visitors from Saturday.
"It is the only fully accessible public depot
that is open in the world,"museum director
Sjarel Ex told AFP as media toured the
building on Tuesday ahead of the opening.
"What happens here is that you do not follow
the script that was written by a curator(
)You see things by accident, and you feel
that you are discovering things."
"Normally,only some 6 to 10 percent of
collections at major museums around the world
like the Boijmans Van Beuningen are on
display, and the rest kept in closed storage
depots,"said Ex.That will now change for the
Rotterdam institution.Visitors will even be
able to watch works being restored."If you do
not show the works, people will stop talking
about and thinking about an art work.As a
result,it is very likely that it is into oblivion
out of sight,”he said.
The project, whose cost of around 92
million euros has mainly been covered by
private donations,features five different

solve a very serious problem-the possibility
of flooding in a low-lying country where a
third of the land sits below sea level. The old
basement below the museum was likely to let
in water, making it unsuitable for storage.
"Every building is a moment in time,so this
celebrates for sure the climate,"said its
architect,Winy Maas."Why?Because it's the
reason for the existence of this building-the
former archives(档案馆)were under water.It
was flooding,so we have to bring it up.
