Not too hot, not too cold. Spring is the perfect time to visit Europe for ideal weather. The best European countries to visit in the spring include: France, Netherlands, Slovakia, Romania, Czech Republic and so on.
France
One of the most tourist-packed countries in Europe, France offers lesser crowds and more excellent weather during the spring months. Just outside of Paris are the impressive castles and country houses of Sceaux, where the cherry blossom can easily be seen in spring.
Netherlands
The Netherlands is well-known for its vast fields of flowers, making spring a perfect time for a Dutch holiday. The tulip fields in the Noordoostpolder are a must, as well as flower fields in Flevoland and Kop van Noord-Holland. In Veluwe National Park, tourists will be rewarded with the sight of red deer eating grass. A trip to the Netherlands would, of course, be incomplete without a visit to Amsterdam. The lesser crowds and lovely weather of spring make it the perfect time to explore Amsterdam’s canals.
Slovakia
Slovakia is a wonderfully diverse country with rich cultural history and awe-inspiring natural sites. Slovak Paradise is a natural park that offers 19 nature reserves and over 350 caves. Due to its hot summers and cold winters, spring is a perfect time to explore all that Slovakia has to offer.
Romania
Romania hosts a variety of great cultural sites and lively cities, especially attractive during spring months. The Statue of King Decebalus, a 141-foot-high upper part of Decebalus carved into the side of a rock, is a wonderful attraction. Brașov Old Town is one of Europe’s most charming destinations for those looking to escape the capital city of Bucharest.
Czech Republic
Due to its impossibly preserved Gothic architecture, Prague is widely regarded as the most impressive city in Europe. As such, summertime will be characterized with crowds that can ruin the romance with which you should experience Prague. May in the Czech Republic offers perfect not-too-hot, not-too-cold weather. This makes for ideal conditions to cross Charles Bridge and tour Prague Castle.
29. If one wants to appreciate flowers, he will most probably go to ______.
A. France B. Netherlands C. Romania D. Czech Republic
30. According to the passage, the best destinations for tourists interested in architecture are ______.
A. France and Romania B. Romania and Slovakia
C. Slovakia and Czech Republic D. France and Czech Republic
31. What can be learned about the countries mentioned in the passage?
A. They are packed with more crowds in spring than in other seasons.
B. Tourists can travel in ships when visiting Romania and Netherlands.
C. Travellers can catch sight of and feed wild animals in these countries.
D. Slovakia is an amazing place where tourists can enjoy natural beauty.

Decades ago, my friend Caetlin received a special assignment from the poet Robert L. Hass, who instructed each student to memorize three poems of their choosing from The Norton Anthology of American Literature — not for any urgent exam reason, he claimed, but instead to prepare them for their unavoidable future occasions when you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have.
If the task was as a strange one, it’s because the act of memorizing a poem feels curiously old-fashioned in an era when few of us encounter poetry at all. When I was in graduate school, working toward a degree in English literature, I mostly limited myself to essays. It was only in my 40s that I began to change my ways. It happened in a flight to Seattle. For hours, I read nothing else but a poem. Sometimes I spoke its lines aloud, my voice masked by the airplane’s thrum (嗡嗡声). Sometimes I went through the whole poem at once, and sometimes I repeated a single stanza (诗节) over and over, and by the time my plane landed on the West Coast, I had the whole thing, all 40 lines of it, in my head. Because the process is as simple as it is very boring, memorizing a great poem always begins as a crime The boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has. But as you run your hands through the rock, the lines at last come together again, and the scattered text transforms back into a treasure.
In other words, poetry survives continuously by becoming a part of those who read it. It can do so only because it is so specific, so entirely different from us, that taking it in expands our own sense of what we are.
Some of the poems I’ve memorized are already fading, and that’s fine. I know that if I spend a little time with them, they’ll sing in me again. Others keep beating in me like a new pulse. I won’t promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will make you more: more in touch with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might yet become.
32. Why did Robert L. Hass advise students to read poems?
A. To become literature professors.
B. To relieve their future loneliness.
C. To prepare for the coming exams.
D. To compose more original poems.
33. Why does the author say that memorizing a poem begins as a crime?
A. It’s out of date to recite poems.
B. Repetition wastes a lot of time.
C. Repetition ruins the poem’s beauty.
D. It’s a shame to read poems on plane.
34. How does understanding poetry influence us?
A. By refreshing our good memories.
B. By broadening self-understanding.
C. By reminding us to forget the past.
D. By helping us survive the hard life.
C
The discovery and rescue of four young Indigenous (土著的) children, 40 days after the plane they were travelling in crashed in the remote Colombian rainforest, was considered by the international press a “wonder in the jungle”. But as a sociologist who has spent more than a year living among the Andoque people in the area and conducting fieldwork, I cannot simply call this an extraordinary event.
At least, not a wonder in the usual sense of the word. Rather, the survival and discovery of these children can be credited to the rich knowledge of the forest and the adaptive skills passed down through generations by Indigenous people.
Before starting primary school, children in this area go with their parents for various activities such as gardening, fishing, locating rivers, hunting and gathering honey and wild fruits. They know how to find safe water, build rain shelters and set animal traps. They can identify animal footprints and scents, and avoid dangers in the woods — including knowing which plants and flowers are safe to eat.
Amazonian children typically don’t have the toys and games that children in the cities grow up with. So they become experienced tree climbers and engage in play that teaches them about adult tools made from natural materials, such as axes (斧). Through such play, they learn deeply about how the natural world works. In this way, the children acquire useful skills and knowledge, such as those shown by Lesly, Soleiny, Tien and Cristin during their 40- day struggle to survive.
Regrettably, this traditional knowledge that has enabled the local people to survive in the Amazon for thousands of years is under threat. The growth of large farms, mines, and illegal activities, together with private companies stepping in without Indigenous permission, has left these people vulnerable (脆弱的). Without this knowledge, future Indigenous children might not know how to find food or stay safe in the forest. Losing it would mean the end of a way of life that has kept the Andoque people alive in the Amazon for thousands of years.
35. According to the author, what was the reason for the children’s survival?
A. Complete luck and fortune. B. Rich resources in rainforests.
C. Government’s timely rescue. D. Wisdom got from their culture.
36. Which of the following can best describe the Indigenous way of learning?
A. Advanced. B. Professional. C. Practical. D. Formal.
37. What is the author’s attitude to the threat faced by traditional knowledge?
A. Concerned. B. Hopeful. C. Objective. D. Unclear.
38. What is the author most likely to discuss next?
A. Daily life of the Indigenous people. B. Measures to protect traditional knowledge.
C. Follow-up report on the four children. D. Changes in the locals’ living environment.
New discoveries and technological breakthroughs are made every year. Yet, as the agricultural sector moves forward, many people in society are looking back to their roots in terms of the food they eat. A “locavore” movement has emerged in the United States, encouraging people to eat foods grown locally and sustainably. ____39____
The United States’ agricultural output is among the highest in the world. Farms here are tremendously productive, thanks to advanced technology and massive inputs. ____40____ Professor Timothy Beach points out that this food system heavily depends on fossil fuels — both for machinery and fertilizer production. As global petrol reserves reduce, such dependence is turning into a growing threat to agricultural stability.
Despite these challenges, the move toward sustainability is growing stronger. Farmers like Louise Keckler run small farms that supply fresh produce through community-supported agriculture networks. ____41____ This freshness not only improves nutrition but also helps consumers understand how climate change affects food systems. This personal connection promotes greater environmental awareness.
Some experts also question whether the “locavore” movement is just a passing craze. ____42____ In response to this concern, Professor Beach admits uncertainty but believes fully sustainable agriculture could still feed the nation. Professor Erin Barnett calls it a lasting trend — a return to a more natural way of eating that aligns (与……一致) with human needs.
____43____ Urban residents are now growing tomatoes on balconies or herbs in window boxes. As Kirk Wilbur, a former urban farming advocate, notes, “No matter how small a space you have, you still have enough room to grow some food.” Local eating is no longer limited to rural areas — it’s becoming a lifestyle accessible to all.
A. In fact, the movement is expanding into cities.
B. They can inspire more responsible consumption habits.
C. However, this productivity comes at a high environmental cost.
D. It shortens supply chains and strengthens producer-consumer ties.
E. In this way, households get food harvested only hours before delivery.
F. Whether temporary or not, they agree it’s made supermarkets rethink sourcing.
G. Many of them believe global supply ensures food security better than local systems.
Born in 1949, Diana Nyad took an early interest in swimming as a sport and was a Florida State High School swimming champion. Like many young athletes, Diana hoped to take part in the Olympics, but a serious illness kept her from competing in the Games. However, she didn’t give up. Instead, she became interested in marathon swimming.
Diana was a talented and strong athlete. As a long-distance swimmer, she would compete against herself and the obstacles presented by distance, danger, cold, and exhaustion. For ten years, Nyad devoted herself to becoming one of the world’s best long-distance swimmers and set three important records. In 1970, she swam a ten-mile marathon in Lake Ontario, setting the women’s record for the course. In 1972 she set another record by swimming 102.5 miles from an island in the Bahamas to the coast of Florida. Then she broke a third record when swimming around Manhattan Island in 1975.
Diana attempted to swim the distance between Florida and Cuba in 1978. Though the span of water is less than 100 miles wide, it is rough and dangerous. After battling the water for two days, she had to give up for the sake of her own health and safety. Even so, she impressed the world with her courage and strong desire to succeed. For Diana, her strength of purpose was just as important as reaching Cuba. That is how she defined success. It did not matter that her swim came up short; she believed she had touched the other “shore”.
When Diana ended her career as a swimmer, she continued to try new things — travelling the world as a reporter, writing books and giving public speeches about her life. Diana works to inspire others, just as she did when she swam the waters of the world.
44. What prevented Diana from competing in the Olympics?

A
Not too hot, not too cold.

B 33. C 34. B
根据第一段中的“Decades ago, my friend Caetlin received a special assignment from the poet Robert L. Hass, who instructed each student to memorize three poems of their choosing from The Norton Anthology of American Literature — not for any urgent exam reason, he claimed, but instead to prepare them for their unavoidable future occasions when you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have.(数十年前,我的朋友凯特琳接到诗人罗伯特・L・哈斯布置的一项特殊作业。
根据第二段中的“Because the process is as simple as it is very boring, memorizing a great poem always begins as a crime (罪过的事). The boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has.
根据第三段中的“It can do so only because it is so specific, so entirely different from us, that taking it in expands our own sense of what we are.(诗歌能够长久留存并成为读者的一部分,只因它独特且与我们自身截然不同,理解并接纳诗歌,能够拓宽我们对自我的认知和理解。)”
D 36. C 37. A 38. B
根据第二段“Rather, the survival and discovery of these children can be credited to the rich knowledge of the forest and the adaptive skills passed down through generations by Indigenous people. (相反,这些孩子能够幸存和被发现,要归功于土著人代代相传的丰富森林知识和适应技能)”可知,作者认为孩子们的幸存归功于土著人代代相传的森林知识和适应技能,即从他们的文化中获得的智慧。故选D。
【36题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Before starting primary school, children in this area go with their parents for various activities such as gardening, fishing, locating rivers, hunting and gathering honey and wild fruits. They know how to find safe water, build rain shelters and set animal traps. (在上小学之前,这个地区的孩子会和父母一起参加各种活动,比如园艺、捕鱼、寻找河流、狩猎以及采集蜂蜜和野果。他们知道如何找到安全的水源、搭建避雨棚和设置动物陷阱)”及第四段“Through such play, they learn deeply about how the natural world works. (通过这样的玩耍,他们深入了解了自然界的运作方式)”可知,土著儿童通过参与园艺、狩猎等实际活动来学习生存技能,这种学习方式是实用的。故选C。
【37题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Regrettably, this traditional knowledge that has enabled the local people to survive in the Amazon for thousands of years is under threat. (令人遗憾的是,这种使当地人得以在亚马逊生存数千年的传统知识正面临威胁)”及“Without this knowledge, future Indigenous children might not know how to find food or stay safe in the forest. Losing it would mean the end of a way of life that has kept the Andoque people alive in the Amazon for thousands of years. (没有这些知识,未来的土著儿童可能不知道如何在森林里寻找食物或保证安全。失去它将意味着一种让安多克人在亚马逊生存了数千年的生活方式的终结)”可知,作者对传统知识面临的威胁感到遗憾和担忧。故选A。
根据最后一段“Losing it would mean the end of a way of life that has kept the Andoque people alive in the Amazon for thousands of years. (失去它将意味着一种让安多克人在亚马逊生存了数千年的生活方式的终结)”可知,此处指出了传统知识面临的严重威胁及其失去后的可怕后果,按照逻辑,作者接下来最可能讨论保护这些传统知识的措施。故选B。

_____________________________________________________________
45. As one of the world’s best long-distance swimmers, what did she achieve?
_____________________________________________________________
46. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
In 1978, after Diana struggled in the water between Florida and Cuba for two days, she successfully reached the other shore at last.
_____________________________________________________________
47. From the story, what quality of Diana impresses you most? Why? (In about 40 words)
_____________________________________________________________
44. A serious illness.
45. She set three important records.
46. In 1978, after Diana struggled in the water between Florida and Cuba for two days, she successfully reached the other shore at last.
According to the passage, in 1978, Diana struggled in the water between Florida and Cuba for two days but failed to reach the other shore.
47. Her perseverance impresses me most. She never gave up facing illness and difficulties, and kept challenging herself to realize her life value all the time.
根据第一段“Like many young athletes, Diana hoped to take part in the Olympics, but a serious illness kept her from competing in the Games.(和许多年轻运动员一样,戴安娜希望参加奥运会,但一场重病使她无法参赛)”可知,一场重病阻碍了戴安娜参加奥运会。
根据第二段“For ten years, Nyad devoted herself to becoming one of the world’s best long-distance swimmers and set three important records.(十年来,尼亚德致力于成为世界上最优秀的长距离游泳运动员之一,并创下了三项重要纪录)”可知,她创下了三项重要纪录。
根据第三段“After battling the water for two days, she had to give up for the sake of her own health and safety.(在水中搏斗两天后,为了自身的健康和安全,她不得不放弃。)”
Her perseverance impresses me most. She never gave up facing illness and difficulties, and kept challenging herself to realize her life value all the time.

My Role Model
My role model is Yuan Longping, the “Father of Hybrid Rice.”
Professor Yuan devoted his life to solving food shortage. He developed the world’s first hybrid rice strain, which greatly increased rice production and fed millions of people. His remarkable work earned him the “Medal of the Republic” and worldwide respect.
For me, Yuan Longping is a true role model. I am deeply inspired by his perseverance — he spent years searching for a single hybrid rice plant under the burning sun. Whenever I face difficulties in my studies, I think of him and remind myself that great achievements require patience and effort. His dream of “enjoying the cool under the shade of rice” also touches my heart and encourages me to contribute to society in the future.
