Learning by doing is a valuable way to gain knowledge and skills. It allows us to put ____1___ we learn from books into practice and deepen our understanding.
Last term, our science class had a project about ___2___ plants. Our teacher told us to grow bean sprouts. At first, I thought it was an easy task. ___3____ I soon found out the first batch of beans didn’t sprout at all. I felt ____4____ and wanted to give up. However, our teacher told us, “Mistakes are part of learning. You need to find out what went wrong and try again.”
So I checked the conditions carefully. I found that I had put____5___ water, which made the beans rot. I ___6__ realized the plants neeeded enough light. For the second try, I followed the correct steps carefully. Every day, I observed the beans closely and took detailed notes. I changed the water ____7___ to prevent the beans from rotting. After three days, tiny white shoots appeared. Over the next week, the shoots grew taller and developed tender green leaves. During this project, I learned more than just how to grow bean sprouts. I learned the importance of patience and attention to detail(注重细节). I also realized that __8____ book knowledge is not enough—we need to apply it to real life. ___9___ we do things with our own hands, we remember the process and lessons much better. Our group also worked together to share experiences. This helped me understand that learning___10____be more effective when we cooperate with others.
We designed a simple experiment to test the best temperature for bean sprouts. At last, we presented our project to the class ____11___ posters and videos. We showed our growth records and shared what we had learned from both successes and failures. Even we ____12___for our hard work and creativity by our teacher. This experience made me___13___ that learning by doing is not only interesting but also___14___. It helps us develop practical skills, critical thinking, and a positive attitude towards learning. What’s more, it taught me to face challenges bravely. Every mistake is __15____ opportunity to learn and improve. I now look forward to more hands-on activities, as they make learning lively and unforgettable.

二、完形填空(10分·原创)
Do you remember the useful sentences like “It’s a piece of cake” or “It serves you right” in English learning? They carry more 16 than the words themselves. In Chinese culture, we also have lots of similar useful expressions like “drinking ink ” and “An inch of time is worth an inch of gold”.
“Drinking ink” is a common expression to show that a person is 17 . Is there anyone who really drinks ink? It could be true in Chinese history. During the Northern Qi Dynasty, those who 18 very badly in the exam would be punished by drinking one liter (升) of ink. Even if they were found to have poor handwriting or make up something terrible, they would be taken into a special room to drink ink. The rule was accepted by the following dynasties. Nowadays, this expression is 19 used to describe people’s ways of receiving education or their level of education. For example, “drinking foreign ink” means one has studied overseas. “Drinking little ink” means a 20 level of education.
sundial
“An inch of time is worth an inch of gold” means that an inch of time has the same value as an inch of gold. It is also the first half of a famous old saying, “An inch of time is worth an inch of gold, but an inch of time cannot be bought with an inch of gold”. This wise saying teaches us a clear lesson: time is more valuable than __21___, which is also echoed by another popular proverb “Lost time is never found again”. It also gives us a ___22___ against wasting it, we should ____23___ it in our daily life.
In ancient times, time was measured by inches because people used the sundial as a traditional time-keeping tool. It is made of a flat and round stone or metal plate on which clear time degrees are marked. As the sun moves slowly from rising to setting, the shadow length changes accordingly. This is how the sundial tells time. Such old tools___24____us to time is very priceless.

Leo felt more and more worried about his English class. Every time he tried to speak, the words just wouldn’t come out. In the last listening test, he couldn’t understand the fast conversations at all. He knew he needed help. Finally, he decided to talk to his English teacher, Mr. Green, after class.
“Mr. Green,” Leo said, his voice quiet. “I think I’m bad at English. I can’t speak well, and the listening is too fast for me. I don’t know what to do.” Mr. Green smiled kindly. “Leo, thank you for telling me this. First, let me tell you something: feeling that something is difficult doesn’t mean you are bad at it. It just means you need a different way to practice.” Mr. Green asked Leo about his study habits. Leo said he usually just did his homework and sometimes remembered new words. “Well, that’s a good start,” Mr. Green said. “But language is for using, not just remembering. It’s like learning to swim. You can’t learn it only from a book; you must get into the water.”
Mr. Green gave Leo two pieces of advice. “First, for listening, don’t start with things that are too hard. Find some simple, slow English stories or songs online. Listen to them for 15 minutes every day. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every word at first. Just try to catch the main idea.” “Second, for speaking, practice talking to yourself! Describe what you are doing in English. For example, say I am opening the door or I am eating an apple. It might feel funny, but it helps your brain think in English. And in class, just try to say one sentence. One sentence is a great start.”
Leo felt a little better. He followed Mr. Green’s advice. He listened to simple English songs every evening. He even started talking to his dog in English! A few weeks later, in an English class, when the teacher asked a question, Leo slowly raised his hand and gave a short answer. It was not perfect, but it was a start. Mr. Green smiled and said, “Well done, Leo!”
Leo learned that asking for help is the first smart step to solving a problem.
29. Why did Leo go to talk to Mr. Green?
A. Because he felt worried about his English speaking and listening.
B. Because he got a very high score and wanted to thank the teacher.
C. Because he had a problem with a classmate.
D. Because he wanted to join the English club.
30. What was Mr. Green’s first piece of advice for Leo’s listening problem?
A. Read more English grammar books.
B. Listen to very fast English news every day.
C. Ask a classmate to read English slowly for him.
D. Listen to simple, slow English materials.
31. How did Mr. Green suggest that Leo improve his speaking?
A. By giving long speeches in front of a mirror.
B. By remembering all the new words in the dictionary.
C. By practicing talking to himself.
D. By only speaking with his best friend.
32. What happened a few weeks after Leo followed the advice?
A. He answered a question in an English class.
B. He still felt too shy to say anything in class.
C. He won an English speaking competition.
D. He decided to stop learning English.

①Behind every success lies a simple truth: people who often celebrate small wins achieve more. It’s not about holding big parties for every little good thing. It’s about having a winner’s way of thinking. Notice, praise and value these small victories, and use them to keep moving forward.
②Small wins hold the power to make a difference. When we realize every tiny bit of progress we make and value it, it will boost our motivation and bring us joy. As we see ourselves getting closer to our goals step by step, our brain will send a positive signal (信号) : “This is working!” It will keep pushing us to move forward without stopping. In fact, our choice to value or ignore small wins will bring about completely different results in our life.
③When we choose to value small wins and take the time to celebrate each one, we start a positive cycle (循环). A basketball player who raises his fist (拳头) after a successful shot isn’t just showing his excitement. At this moment, his brain thinks, “I did it!” He feels happy about winning. The good feeling stays with him, and next time he will be ready to try harder and fight for the ball. A student who rewards (奖励) himself with a cup of hot drink after finishing a study task is doing the same thing. Over time, our minds form a pattern (模式): ▲ .
④However, if we ignore small wins and stop celebrating them, we will break this positive cycle and focus on failures instead. This often leads to giving up. For example, if a person who wants to get fit only cares about losing 10 kilograms in a month, and never celebrates small things like exercising for 30 minutes, he will easily feel discouraged and even want to quit the fitness plan.
⑤So how can we make use of the power of small wins in daily life? First, break big goals into small tasks. Instead of planning to write a whole book, try to write 300 words a day and celebrate when you finish. Second, keep a notebook to record all your small wins. Third, reward yourself with something small, like a short walk or a piece of your favorite snack.
⑥Celebrate every small win, and you will make success a habit.
33. Which sentence uses “boost” with the same meaning and use as the underlined word?
boost /buːst/ v. ①使增长 ②偷窃 (非正式) n. ①帮助,激励 ②增长,提高
A. Your kind words are such a great boost to my self-confidence.
B. The new theme park will bring a boost to the local business.
C. The thief was caught boosting a phone from the department store.
D. This activity will greatly boost our interest in English learning.
34. Which of the following can be put in the ▲ ?
A. small rewards→small wins→small tasks
B. small wins→positive feelings→more efforts
C. big goals→unavoidable mistakes→bad feelings
D. more efforts→growing confidence→great success
35. What is the relationship between Paragraph② and Paragraph③?
A. Paragraph③ uses positive examples to explain the idea in Paragraph②.
B. Paragraph③ shows the bad results of following the idea in Paragraph②.
C. Paragraph③ tells us how to carry out the idea in Paragraph② as rules.
D. Paragraph③ talks about a new idea that has nothing to do with Paragraph②.
36. Which of the following shows the student uses the “small wins” idea?
A. Ben decides to finish his math workbook just in one day without having any rest.
B. Sam still feels sad about his bad test grades though he has done better than before.
C. Emily makes a 3-step plan for her project and rests for 10 minutes after each step.
D. Cindy asks her mom to buy her a big gift if she can finish her homework on time.

Imagine a robot teacher that draws pictures on the board while explaining science. This is Embodied AI machines that learn through action, just like students in a lab.
In schools today, Embodied AI makes learning fun and real. For example, “AI pens” check your handwriting and show mistakes right away. English apps use voice study to help you practice speech by copying your movements. Even PE classes get smarter: sensors in sports shoes measure balance (平衡) and shout advice like, “Lower knees more!”
What’s special about these robots? They join thinking with doing. This “learning by doing” is like small class activities. In a science class, when you measure pencils with a ruler, you learn about measurement. You can see the difference in pencil lengths. And when you move a heavy book and a light notebook with the same force, it’s harder to move the book, helping you understand “force”. This makes these ideas easy to get.
By 2025, Embodied AI will be everywhere. They won’t replace (取代) teachers—they’ll make learning better, turning difficult ideas into games.
For example, in a science lab, a robot could mix chemicals safely, showing you how reactions work. In an art class, AI might guide your hand to draw perfect circles, teaching geometry (几何学) while you create. Even history lessons could come alive with robots acting out historical events!
So, are you ready to study with robots that act and think? Embodied AI isn’t magic—it’s about turning every student into a creator and explorer. The future of learning isn’t in books...it’s waiting for you to build it!
37. How does Embodied AI make learning interesting?
A. AI pens can help you do your homework.
B. English apps help improve your speaking skills.
C. Dangerous science tests can be done by students.
D. AI teachers help you keep balanced in PE classes.
38. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The process of joining thinking with doing. B. The method of “learning by doing”.
C. The activity of measuring pencils. D. The experiment of moving books.
39. How might Embodied AI be used in an art class?
A. By writing poems about paintings. B. By guiding a student to draw shapes.
C. By taking the place of the art teachers. D. By showing famous works of art.
40. What is the role of Embodied AI in the future classroom?
A. To replace all human teachers. B. To teach students how to think.
C. To turn students into magicians. D. To encourage creativity in students.

第二节、回答问题(5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
Language is always changing and developing. This isn’t a bad thing. If English hadn’t changed for a long time, we wouldn’t have words to describe telephones, washing machines, computers or some other new things.
Language changes for several reasons. First, it changes because the needs of its speaker change. New technologies, new products, and new experiences need new words to express them clearly. Another reason for change is that different people have different language experiences. People use different sets of words and expressions, because they have different ages, jobs, education levels and so on.
How does language develop then? On the one hand, many of the language changes begin with young people. When young people communicate with others of their own age, their language grows in grammar, words and expressions that are different from the older people’s. Some have a short lifetime but others can influence the language for a long time. On the other hand, we get new words in many different ways. We borrow them from other languages, we create them by making words shorter or combining words and we make them out of proper names.
Languages that don’t change over time are considered dead languages. The fact that English changes so much shows that it’s alive and well.
56. What does the writer think of the change and development of language?
57. Why do people use different sets of words and expressions according to the passage?
58. How many reasons for language change are mentioned in this passage?
59. How do young people help develop language?
60. What are considered dead languages according to the passage?
第三节、语法填空(5分)
Speaking English fluently (流利地) is difficult for most of the people. But actually all you need are the right ways and confidence. So far, I 61 (prepare) some advice for you.
Stop being a student.
The right attitude (态度) can make a difference between failure and success. Stop thinking of yourself as someone who is learning English, and think of yourself as someone who speaks English. It’s a small change, but it will make you feel more confident and help you use the English you already know better. So the right attitude should 62 (accept).
Try to learn sentences.
Speaking English fluently means being able to express your thoughts and feelings. You should try to speak English in full sentences. You 63 (find) that English is much more useful in your life if you study whole sentences, rather than just words.
Practice makes perfect.
Studying English for an hour once a week isn’t usually enough to make any real progress. The best way to quickly improve English is 64 (spend) at least a few minutes practicing every day.
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
Sometimes it can be difficult to put all those rules and words together into a simple sentence. Don’t let the fear of saying something wrong stop you from speaking. Even though you think you are making a mistake, keep speaking anyway. Most of the time, people will understand what you are trying to say. The more you speak, the 65 (easy) it will be. You will be excited to find that you won’t be worried about making mistakes in speaking English.

【答案】61.have prepared 62.be accepted 63.will find 64.to spend 65.easier
【解析】本文主要介绍了说英语流利虽对大多数人来说困难,但只要有正确方法和信心就能做到,并给出了一些相关建议。
61.句意:到目前为止,我已经为你准备了一些建议。根据“So far”可知,句子时态为现在完成时,其结构为have/has+动词的过去分词,主语是I,助动词用have,prepare的过去分词是prepared。故填have prepared。
62.句意:所以应该接受正确的态度。根据“So the right attitude should…(accept).”可知,主语the right attitude和动词accept之间是被动关系,should是情态动词,后接动词原形,所以此处用含有情态动词的被动语态结构should be done,accept的过去分词是accepted。故填be accepted。
63.句意:如果你学习完整的句子,而不是仅仅学习单词,你会发现英语在你的生活中更有用。根据“You…(find) that English is much more useful in your life if you study whole sentences, rather than just words.”可知,if引导的条件状语从句遵循“主将从现”原则,从句是一般现在时,主句用一般将来时,其结构为will+动词原形。故填will find。
64.句意:快速提高英语的最好方法是每天至少花几分钟练习。根据“The best way to quickly improve English is…(spend) at least a few minutes practicing every day.”可知,此处是“the best way to do sth is to do sth”句型,表示 “做某事的最佳方式是做某事”。故填to spend。
65.句意:你说得越多,就会越容易。根据“The more you speak, the…(easy) it will be.”可知,此处是“the+比较级,the+比较级”结构,表示“越……,就越……”,easy的比较级是easier。故填easier。

Dear classmates,
I have been very happy in the junior high school in China. Last week, I took part in the English Week. I have learned a lot from it. Now let me tell you something about it.
There were many interesting activities during the week. On Monday afternoon, we had Funny Invention. We introduced great inventions in English, which not only helped us practice our spoken English but also developed our interest in science. On Wednesday morning, we had English Corner. We told traditional Chinese stories there. We wanted to learn about the ancient wisdom and spread Chinese culture. On Friday afternoon, we had Culture Talks. We shared our experiences in education exchange. I think this activity is meaningful because it helps us learn from each other.
I really enjoyed English Week. I hope you can come and experience it someday!
Yours, Grace
