Passage 1
(2025·北京西城·二模)
Are you tired of feeling anxious (焦虑的) when faced with challenging situations or high-pressure tasks? Do you wish you could perform at your best, even in the most stressful environments? If you practice how to remain calm under pressure, you can manage stress better and perform better in work and life.
The Yerkes-Dodson curve explains the relationship between stress and performance. The big idea of it is that people perform better at medium levels of stress. It highlights the importance of stress management techniques (技巧) and finds ways to control and manage stress levels to avoid negative effects on performance. Imagine stress on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is low and 10 is high. If stress is in the mid-range, say 5, 6, or 7, you can perform better.
That means when you feel your stress is too low, you need to turn it up. And when your stress is too high, you need to turn it down.
How can you lower your level of stress if it’s too high? Practicing mindfulness is a technique that can help lower your level of stress and build your awareness, enabling you to react more effectively to stressors. Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment. You can become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. This increased awareness allows you to choose suitable techniques to manage stress. For example, if you notice your mind starting to race or become fixed on negative thoughts, you can change your focus and calm your mind. Also, if you notice discomfort in your body, you can use physical techniques such as deep breathing or stretching to calm your body down.
If your level of stress is too low, you can learn how to raise it to perform better. You can try techniques such as goal setting and positive self-talk. For example, if you want to improve your running performance, set a goal to run a certain distance or time within a specific (特定的) period. When preparing for the running event, use positive self-talk such as “I have trained hard for this, and I can achieve my goal.”
By practicing these techniques and focusing on what you can control, you can unlock your full potential (潜能) and perform at your best, even in the most challenging situations.
1. What is the big idea of the Yerkes-Dodson curve?
2. What are the benefits of practicing mindfulness?
3. According to the passage, how can you raise your level of stress if it is too low?
4. From 1-10, what stress level do you often experience? Please explain what you can do to lower, keep or raise your level.
Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·北京朝阳·期末)
Dealing with emotions can sometimes feel like too much to bear. When life is stressful, it’s easy to give in to feelings of anger or sadness. However, learning to manage emotions can help people feel better. There are ways to better deal with your negative feelings.
Understand Your Emotional Needs
In order to manage your emotions, you need to fully understand them. All of us have our own certain emotional needs that are just as important as our physical needs. Spend some time listing out the emotional needs that are most important to you. For example, some important emotional needs are feeling in control, feeling respected, and feeling comfortable. If your brain feels one of those needs is not being met, that can cause the negative emotions.
Know the Causes
When things aren’t going your way, it is very common to feel angry. Maybe your boss criticized (批评) you for careless work on a project. You might feel that you are not being respected, because you spent months creating a great product. As a result, knowing the things that set off negative emotions is an important part of remaining in control.
Shift ( 转移) Your Focus
When you know that something is causing a negative emotion, try to shift your focus away from it. Instead, refocus on something positive to help you restore your calmness. Perhaps feeling out of control is one of your triggers (诱因). When you are in a traffic jam and running late, you are likely to feel a sense of helplessness and anger. What you need to do is to turn on your favorite CD for just such a situation.
Calm down
When experiencing very strong emotions, it can be difficult to think and act reasonably. When you are angry or scared, your body enters a fight or flight (逃跑) state. So you would react (反应) emotionally instead of reasonably, which is generally not helpful in work or social life. It is really important to learn to calm yourself down when you are experiencing negative emotions. One of the effective ways is to take deep breaths. Focusing on your breathing will help you calm down, physically and emotionally.
5. What can help people feel better when life is stressful?
6. Why do people react emotionally when they are angry or scared?
7. How many ways are there to manage negative feelings according to the passage?
8. If you get into a big argument with your parents or friends and feel upset, which way will you choose to manage your emotions, and why? (Please give two reasons.)
Passage 3
(25-26九年级下·北京西城·月考)
In China, students usually have summer and winter vacation and public holidays. However, in 2026, the topic of “spring and autumn holidays” for primary and secondary school students became a hot issue at the Two Sessions (两会). The government plans to support qualified areas to try out these short holidays, while carrying out a flexible time-off system for workers. This means parents can choose when to take their paid days off. Provinces including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Sichuan have already tested the policy with good results. It aims to allow families to travel during less busy seasons and help the local economy.
These holidays bring great benefits to students. After long periods of study, students often feel tired both in mind and body. Studying for months without a proper break can make it hard for them to focus in class. The spring and autumn breaks give them a chance to rest and get new energy. With nice weather during these seasons, students can go out of classrooms and take part in hands-on activities. Such activities help turn what they learn from books into real-life experiences. This makes learning more fun and helps them remember better. When students learn by doing, they become more interested in their subjects and more confident in their abilities.
However, there are still some challenges. Many working parents cannot stay with their children during the holidays. If children are left alone, they may face safety risks or simply waste their time. To solve this problem, many schools now offer fun activities to help students make good use of their holiday time. Local communities also give more programs to keep children busy and engaged. The holidays can also be set at different times in different places, so that each area can choose the dates that work best for them. This way, not all students are on break at the same time, which helps avoid overcrowding in public spaces. With the support from schools and communities, families can feel more at ease during these breaks.
In short, spring and autumn holidays are a good new idea in education. They not only give students a break from schoolwork but also help them see more of the world around them.
9. Which provinces have already tested the policy?
10. How can local communities help students make good use of their holiday time?
11. Why are these holidays a good new idea in education?
12. What outdoor activities would you like to try during the spring and autumn holidays? Why?
Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·北京西城·期末)
There’s a lot of fear around spending time alone. Alone time can make people really bored. Worse, some articles and studies warn us about the dangers of loneliness—one in 2017 says loneliness is as bad as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Another in 2023 presents the risks of chronic (长期的) loneliness, such as increased risks of disease.
However, not all alone time is the same. There’s chronic loneliness—and there’s solitude (独处). One is a serious problem. The other is a skill we must develop.
Chronic loneliness happens when there is unhappiness about the state of having few friends or a sense of social isolation (隔离). But we do so many activities alone that don’t come with the dangers of chronic loneliness—reading a book, doing an art project or cooking a meal. This kind of positive alone time is called solitude, which is a state of being free of the requirements of others. While chronic loneliness is bad for our health, solitude can be the opposite.
Yet we don’t know how to welcome it, and we often avoid it. We sometimes stay in bad relationships so as not to be alone.
This isn’t surprising. One of the main parts of chronic loneliness is social isolation. According to John Cacioppo, a professor at the University of Chicago, loneliness is a biological sign similar to hunger or thirst. When we are in a state of painful loneliness, it is our bodies that give us information to find social support or social ties.
However, being more in touch with our loneliness sensors helps us use the healthy kind of alone time. You wouldn’t be ashamed of needing water when thirsty, so why should you feel bad about feeling lonely? What’s more, we might have more control over how connected we feel with others than we think. According to a Yale’s study, if you can feel connected with loved ones even when you’re not around them, you can still feel socially connected.
I am a believer in finding your best solitude style. I encourage those who don’t like being alone to try it out once. You may find yourself looking for it again and again. Taking a hike in the woods alone allows you to look at nature more closely than hiking with a friend.
When you save a meaningful moment for just you, you get to be the only maker of your experiences.
13. When does chronic loneliness happen?
14. According to the passage, what is solitude?
15. What is the benefit of being more in touch with our loneliness sensors?
16. Do you think it is necessary for you to make time for solitude? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons. )
Passage 5
(2025·北京西城·一模)
The world is becoming less livable because of climate change and the loss of nature. What do you think would help you and your friends change your lifestyles and do something to make a healthier planet? How can we empower young people to help protect the Earth?
Education might help. For years, experts have developed environmental education programs with the goal of helping people understand the natural environment and what we can do to protect it. Many environmental education programs are developed for young people like you. You have more power to make a difference than you might think. Why? You have a long future ahead of you. This means that how you choose to live now will make a big difference over the course of your life. Your lifestyle choices can even inspire (激励) your parents and grandparents’ generations.
Environmental education programs seem like a very good thing. But do they really work? The short answer is yes. By searching large online databases (数据库) of scientific studies, we found that environmental education programs deeply influence people’s knowledge: Young people who take part in environmental education learn a lot about nature, the climate, and what they can do to protect the environment. We also found that environmental education has meaningful effects on attitudes: Young people feel positive about the environment and motivated (有动力的) to protect it. Finally, environmental education encourages environmental behavior: Young people who have taken part in environmental education are more likely to do things to protect the environment, such as recycling waste or taking shorter showers to save water, carrying a reusable water bottle, or turning off the lights when leaving a room.
Overall, we found the benefits of environmental education programs can be very broad (广泛的). They help young people know about, care about, and do things to protect the environment. Environmental education can be a powerful way to prepare young people for the future. It does not only help young people understand what environmental problems we face—it also encourages them to act. But still, some important questions remain. For example, what is the best way for teachers to teach environmental education? Which activities (for example, learning in class or going to a camp) work best for children of different age groups? There is no right answer—the most important thing is to learn from each other’s perspectives.
17. Why is the world becoming less livable?
18. What is the goal of environmental education programs?
19. What are the benefits of environmental education programs?
20. According to the passage, what activity can you design for an environmental education program to influence young people? What are the influences?
Passage 6
(2025·北京海淀·二模)
The day had been good ,but school was tiring. I was lying on my sofa, mindlessly scrolling (滚屏) through social media, obsessed (痴迷) with someone else’s fancy life. Without even knowing it, I was comparing myself to others.
In fact, I’m not alone! Comparing is something we struggle with every day. Studies show that anytime a thought comes to our minds, there’s a 1-in-10 chance that we’re comparing ourselves to others. Social comparison theory states that people would judge their own social and personal worth by comparing themselves to others around them.
Comparison had been the thief of my joy for long until one day I realized that it is pointless to compare ourselves with others—we are comparing our weaknesses to someone’s strengths. I still remember several moments when I thought the worst of myself because I thought the best of someone else. For example, every time I saw Kayla performing well at her schoolwork, the first thing that popped into my mind was a wish that I could be as smart as her. I kept asking myself, “Why couldn’t I just be like her?” I practically praised Kayla while hating myself at the same time.
I decided to change. I started to focus on improving myself instead of comparing with others. I took up reading one book every month. I started new hobbies. This helped me to discover a new self.
I learned to appreciate (欣赏) what I had. Every day, I wrote down things I was happy about and chose to be around people who made me feel good. This made me value my life and see how special it is.
And I changed how I used social media. Instead of aimlessly scrolling, I customized (定制) my social media feeds (推送) to include more educational and inspirational information. I felt happier and was less likely to compare myself to others.
In our lives, it’s important to ask ourselves a key question: are we tending to (照料) our own garden or are we only visitors, admiring the beautiful gardens of others while failing to care for our own? Try not to get lost in comparing yourself to others since everyone is different. Discover your gifts and let them shine!
21. What was the writer obsessed with on social media?
22. How do people judge their social and personal worth according to social comparison theory?
23. Why does the writer think it is pointless to compare ourselves to others?
24. What do you think of the ways the writer took to avoid pointless comparison ? Why? (Please give two reasons)
Passage 7
(2025·北京东城·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Lost in the Age of Technology
“Amy, come to help me make the dumplings,” my mum called out. “It is the Chinese New Year today!”
I didn’t want to walk all the way downstairs, so I picked up my phone and sent a text message to my mum: OK but why don’t you just buy a robot to help you?
I put down my phone, and memories of the old days flooded my mind. When I was young, during Chinese New Year, I learned to make dumplings from my mum and listened to stories about Chinese New Year. It made me feel deeply connected to Chinese culture. But where has all that gone now? People say that technology has made the world a better place. Is this true?
Before I went to primary school, my dad started to read the Three Character Classic (San Zi Jing) to me every day in the evening. He said it could help me learn not only Chinese characters but also Confucian morality (道德). I was amazed at Chinese traditions.
Another thing of high cultural value I learned is Chinese calligraphy. My teacher wore a full set of traditional Chinese costumes (服装) from different dynasties to class and taught us to write out poems by poets born in that dynasty. Seeing his costumes, learning the poems, and practicing Chinese calligraphy made me feel like I was in a special world of that dynasty. When I wrote out each character slowly, I explored the meaning and beauty of the language.
Nowadays, I have become less and less dependent on the printed classical texts because I can quickly find the information I need with the help of search engines. As a result, it has reduced the value and importance of physical texts, which more effectively connect a person to their culture, I have also lost calligraphy skills because I hardly write with paper and a pen in my daily life. The weakening of cultural practices and traditions is a worldwide problem. Moving forward, we can use technology in moderation (适度) to make our lives easier, but we also need to actively join in cultural practices.
25. What did the writer do during Chinese New Year when she was young?
26. Why did the writer’s father read the Three Character Classic to her?
27. What did the writer explore when she wrote out each character slowly?
28. According to the writer’s final suggestion, what can you do to balance your use of technology with cultural practices in your life? (Please give two examples.)
Passage 8
(2025·北京朝阳·二模)
Buddy Reading
Reading a good book is really a great journey. When a reader gets into a well-written book, it’s just like going into a new world and living someone else’s life for some time. This experience becomes even more wonderful when it’s done by buddy reading. That means two or more people read together.
During buddy reading, the buddies do lots of different reading activities. They may take turns to read out loud, share their favorite parts, or talk about the characters and the story. For example, they can stop at an exciting part of the story and argue about what will happen next. This not only makes reading more fun but also helps them understand the book better.
Although having students of the same age do buddy reading is a good choice, schools often like to match older students with younger ones. In 2021, Green School started such a program, and it has been very successful. In this two-year program, both the younger and older readers have got a lot of benefits. They have learned to be kind and patient when listening to each other. A younger student may be a little shy at first when reading out loud, and the older buddy has to wait patiently for him to finish. Also, this program gives chances to practice important life-long skills. Take leadership for example. Older students can lead the talk about the book, helping the younger ones to think carefully. Communication skills are also improved as they share their ideas about the story. Jason, a student from Green School, shared his experience. He said that reading to a younger buddy was really helpful. He became more confident in his reading and speaking after knowing that he was a role model.
What’s more, the school has become a more united (团结的) community because of buddy reading. The reading buddies are looking forward to their meetings and feel a strong connection. The students are really excited when they see their reading buddies in the school hallway.
Now that summer vacation is coming, it’s a perfect time to start reading. So, why not get together with a friend, choose a book you both like, and start this great reading journey together?
29. What does buddy reading mean?
30. How long did the reading program in Green School last?
31. Why did Jason think reading to a younger buddy was helpful?
32. Do you prefer buddy reading or reading by yourself? Why? (Please give two reasons.)
Passage 9
(2025·北京海淀·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Have you ever felt like studying is a bit boring but watching someone else study makes you want to join in? You’re not alone. “Study with Me” is a new way you can try. The basic idea behind it is that watching someone else study motivates (激励) us to do the same.
“Study with Me” is a kind of live broadcast (直播) on the Internet. It often shows real-time scenes of someone studying, in silence or with soft music. It creates a sense of companionship for the viewers and provides shared focus, a common experience and a feeling of community and togetherness. Studying together can make the learning process more enjoyable and effective, leading to the rising popularity of the study broadcast. More and more students around the world are attracted.
So, why does watching someone else study make us want to study too? Scientists explain that it’s a human’s natural habit. We are likely to copy the behaviors of those around us, which is called mimicry. When we watch someone else study, we are likely to follow the way they take notes, use the same study tools, or take breaks with them. Moreover, we have the need for social support. People on the screen are like our secret study partners. When we see them working hard on the screen, we might feel that we are part of a team. It can inspire us to push through our own difficulties.
“Study with Me” can be helpful, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, we should set clear study goals before joining online study partners because it can help us stay focused on our own work. Besides, it’s important not to depend on it too much because true motivation should come from within. Lastly, we’d better stick to learning with some trustworthy people who have well-organized study plans.
As we move further into the digital age, ways of learning are always changing, offering exciting new learning experiences. “Study with Me” is a great example to create global connections and encourage students to enjoy the learning journey through focus, fun and friendship.
33. What is the basic idea behind “Study with Me”?
34. What does “Study with Me” often show?
35. Why should we set clear study goals first before joining online study partners?
36. When you study after school, which do you think is better, studying with “Study with Me” or studying independently? Why? (Please give two reasons. )
Passage 10
(2025·北京朝阳·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
September is a big month for students in China since the new term begins from now on. In ancient China, the school entrance ceremony (入学典礼) was one of the most important ceremonies.
Children began school between the ages of 4~7 in ancient China. Since there was no certain time to begin a new term at that time, the most important thing for parents was to choose a lucky day for their children to enter school. Next, parents would prepare some school things for their children, including desks, chairs and four treasures of the study.
In ancient times, teachers were usually very knowledgeable local persons. Parents would prepare many gifts, and then write a letter of invitation to ask a knowledgeable man to be their children’s teacher.
On the day their children entered school, parents would take them to take part in the First Writing Ceremony. Before that, children would kowtow (叩头) to the statue of Confucius nine times and then to their teacher three times in order to show their deep respect. During the ceremony, the teacher would put a red point on each student’s forehead (前额) as it meant opening the wisdom eye. Children would also ring a certain bell to start a new term. After that, they could finally sit down in their seats and begin to study. The First Writing Ceremony was a very important ceremony for every student.
Every day, students would arrive at school earlier than their teacher, and kowtow to the statue of Confucius, and then go back to the seats. Usually the teacher would give every student a new name which was used for future Imperial Examination (科举考试).
Today, some schools are starting to hold an entrance ceremony like ancient schools did. Students put on traditional clothes and bow to the statue of Confucius and their teachers. This means that from this moment, they take a step in the life-long journey of learning.
37. At what age did children begin school in ancient China?
38. Why would children kowtow to the statue of Confucius and their teacher before the First Writing Ceremony?
39. What did the teacher usually give to every student for the Imperial Examination?
40. What do you think of the school entrance ceremony? Why? (Please give two reasons.)

(Please give two reasons. )
【答案】13. When there is unhappiness about the state of having few friends or a sense of social isolation. 14. A state of being free of the requirements of others. 15.

【答案】25. She learned to make dumplings from her mum and listened to stories about Chinese New Year. 26. Because it could help her learn not only Chinese characters but also Confucian morality. 27. She explored the meaning and beauty of the language. 28. I can use search engines to find information about traditional Chinese festivals like the Dragon Boat Festival, and then make zongzi by myself according to the instructions I found. Also, I can use my phone to record my calligraphy practice process and share it with my friends, while still writing with paper and pen to improve my calligraphy skills. / I can use apps to learn about traditional Chinese handicrafts like paper-cutting, and then actually make paper-cut works with scissors and paper. I can also use the Internet to find traditional Chinese music, and learn to play some traditional musical instruments in my spare time, such as the erhu, by watching online tutorials while still keeping a distance from overusing technology.(开放性试题,言之有理即可)
