Ema worked for a football team in manchester, then for a very successful rugby team in double lin, and finally ended up working here in vancouver. Also, people aren't willing to change their views about food and nutrition. As there is so much confusing information online, it's really important to hear what experts say. And that's why we've invited emma here. SHE isn't going to tell us about everything we should eat, but he will teach us to make Better choices. Let's welcome emma Wilson. Hi everyone. Ginny MacColl was 63 when she accepted her daughter’s challenge to complete a pull-up. It took nine months to nail it. Now, a decade on, MacColl can pump out 17 of them in a row. MacColl has since competed three times in the reality TV show. She’s the oldest person to complete an obstacle, according to Guinness World Records.
“When I grew up, women weren’t encouraged to lift weights,” MacColl says. Seeing her daughter, Jessie Graff, a stuntwoman (替身演员) in action, MacColl saw “such strength and grace — and she had muscles! I realized that the things people had always said about muscles were so wrong. It was a disservice to women.”
MacColl was enrolled in dance lessons by her parents, initially to draw her out of her shell. But in 1974, she landed a part in a Broadway show. She branched out into TV commercials during the 70s and 80s, acting as “a housewife and mum, smiling with my product beside me... Folgers coffee, Jordan jeans...” She got married and had two children, even shooting one commercial three days after giving birth.
But “all good things come to an end”, and MacColl got divorced after 13 years of marriage. However, the biggest obstacle she has overcome in life, MacColl says, is failure itself. She felt like a failure at school, when she and her classmates were lined up in order of their IQ scores, and also when her first marriage ended.
“It took me a while to get over that,” she says. “There’s a saying I like to tell myself: ‘Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change.’ So I try to look at failure as a motivator. I will get this. Social media was my way of getting out of the depression. I started posting some of the things I could do.”
She has more than 130,000 followers on Instagram, and has landed parts in films. She has just filmed her next appearance on American Ninja Warrior. MacColl believes she can continue to get stronger into her 80s and 90s. “Muscle is the organ of longevity,” she says.
24. What made MacColl take up pull-ups?
A. She was inspired by her daughter. B. She was eager to become an actress.
C. She wanted to prove her worth as a woman. D. She desired to break a Guinness world record.
25. What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on?
A. The busy life of a housewife. B. The popularity of TV commercials.
C. The golden time in MacColl’s career. D. MacColl’s daily routines as a celebrity.
26. How did MacColl get over her failure?
A. By leaving it as it was. B. By making a mental shift.
C. By turning to social media. D. By drawing lessons from it.
27. What message does MacColl’s story convey?
A. All’s well that ends well. B. Rome is not built in a day.
C. It’s never too late to get stronger. D. It takes courage to change one’s life.
A 25. C 26. B 27. C
根据第一段中“Ginny MacColl was 63 when she accepted her daughter’s challenge to complete a pull-up. It took nine months to nail it. 25. 主旨大意题。根据第三段“MacColl was enrolled in dance lessons by her parents, initially to draw her out of her shell. But in 1974, she landed a part in a Broadway show. She branched out into TV commercials during the 70s and 80s, acting as “a housewife and mum, smiling with my product beside me... We already know how watching other people’s lives on social media can negatively affect our self-esteem (自尊) and satisfaction with our own lives. Apparently, using apps to track your own calories or fitness activities can have a similar effect. New research from scientists at University College London (UCL) suggests that fitness apps can actually become major demotivators.
The researchers analyzed nearly 60,000 posts on the X platform. This data is particularly valuable because unlike traditional surveys, people tend to share honest, unfiltered (直白真实的) opinions online. The posts included feedback on popular apps, such as MyFitnessPal. Around 13,000 posts contained negative keywords the researchers tracked — and over half mentioned the calorie-counting app MyFitnessPal.
At first glance, MyFitnessPal seems to offer everything you need to stay on top of your fitness and diet. It allows users to track calorie intake, monitor proteins, and set personalized goals. You can simply import recipes or scan bar codes from food packages — the app will do the rest offering you guidance on what and when to eat. It sounds like working with a personal dietitian.
However, many people are not necessarily that gratified by it. Senior author Dr. Paulina Bondaronek explained, “In these posts, we found a lot of blame and shame, with people feeling they were not doing as well as they should be. These emotional effects may end up harming people’s motivation and health.”
MyFitnessPal is also pretty easy to “fool”, since it’s up to users whether to log or skip a meal. This creates a false sense that if something isn’t recorded in the app, it “didn’t happen”. Many admitted cheating (e.g., not recording a post-dinner cup of ice cream) to feel better, but this only led to more guilt. In some cases, people quit the app and their healthy habits altogether.
It’s important to note the study only analyzed negative posts, so there’s no scientifically proven data on fitness apps’ benefits. However, their drawbacks are hard to ignore. This is a clear wake-up call for developers to consider their products’ unintended consequences.
28. What do we know about MyFitnessPal?
A. It tracks health through exercise data. B. It provides personalized dietitian services.
C. It automatically records every meal intake. D. It may cause the discontinuation of healthy practices.
29. What do the underlined words “gratified by” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Puzzled about. B. Satisfied with. C. Astonished at. D. Concerned about.
30. What is the author’s attitude towards fitness apps?
A. Supportive. B. Objective. C. Convinced. D. Indifferent.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Fitness Apps: Unexpected Harms
B. Fitness Apps: A Double-edged Sword
C. Social Media: A Threat to Self-esteem and Health
D. MyFitnessPal: A Convenient Tool for Diet Control
D 29. B 30. B 31. A
根据第五段最后一句“In some cases, people quit the app and their healthy habits altogether. (有时,人们会放弃这个应用,甚至连健康习惯也一起放弃。)”可知,因为弃用这个应用可能会导致健康习惯的中断。故选D项。
29. 词句猜测题。根据第四段前两句“However, many people are not necessarily that gratified by it. Senior author Dr. Paulina Bondaronek explained, “In these posts, we found a lot of blame and shame, with people feeling they were not doing as well as they should be.
但文章最后一段第一句“It’s important to note the study only analyzed negative posts, so there’s no scientifically proven data on fitness apps’ benefits.
故选A项。

Scientists can now conduct space research on Earth as China’s “ground space station” has been put into trial operation, reported Xin hua. The facility is called Space Environment Simulation and Research Infrastructure (SESRI).
SESRI simulates (模拟) conditions in space and is designed for studying basic space science. This will help scientists do experiments that they normally do in space. SESRI is jointly developed by the Harbin Institute of Technology and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
“Space is very different from the environment on Earth and can have different effects on spacecraft. What we do here is to explore how the effects take place and why,” Li Liyi, executive deputy director of SESRI, told Guangming Daily.
At the facility, there is a device that simulates the space environment from 100 kilometers away from Earth to the sun. In this area, more than 99 percent of visible matter is in a plasma (等离子体) state in which gas is in a highly charged and energetic state of matter. By re-creating the environment, the device can test how plasma affects spacecraft.
Also, one of the biggest problems manned space travel faces is when spacecraft enter Earth’s atmosphere, they are surrounded by plasma, leading to communication blackouts (黑障). The test center can also help solve this issue as researchers now have more opportunities to do tests.
The researchers faced many challenges when building the simulation system, as connecting various parts of the device can be very complicated. “We held more than 700 meetings over a connection problem alone.” Jin Chenggang at the facility told Heilongjiang News.
SESRI also has simulation systems for the moon and Mars, which can re-create the vacuum, extreme temperatures, and space radiation that astronauts would encounter on these space bodies. The systems will help astronauts prepare for their missions to these places in the future, reported Guangming Daily. In the future, the platform will also play an important role in areas including brain science, life and health research, and the development of high-end instruments.
32. What is the main benefit of simulating space environment?
A. Supporting space research on Earth. B. Reducing the cost of space missions.
C. Studying the effects of space on humans. D. Improving our understanding of black holes.
33. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The challenge of space exploration. B. The risk of experiments at the SESRI.
C. The benefit of space exploration. D. The function of the device at the SESRI.
34. Why does the author quote Jin Chenggang’s words?
A. To share a personal story about the building process.
B. To show the difficulties of building the simulation system.
C. To highlight the importance of preparations for the research.
D. To emphasize the challenges of working with other research teams.
35. What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A. Space simulation may be costly.
B. Space simulation raises social concerns.
C. International cooperation is crucial for space simulation.
D. Space simulation has great potential for future exploration.

It was 3 a. m. when the flood came on an unseasonably warm night in June. Rocks were heard breaking. Susan Roberts, new to Red Lodge, Montana, a small town of 2,300 people, woke from an uneasy sleep. She saw the lights on at her across-the-way neighbors’, on the side bordering Rock Creek, a 55-mile river skirting the town’s eastern edge.
Roberts’s next-door neighbor, a police officer, was evacuating (疏散) with his four kids, and he advised Roberts to do the same. So she put her dogs in the car and moved it to an narrow street behind her home, about 10 feet uphill, as her husband went from house to house, waking others. It was still dark; people were sleeping and didn’t realize. More people went to each other’s doors, saying, “Wake up and you have to get out.”
The couple stayed in their car and on the few feet of dry land surrounding it for the entirety of the next day, watching their house ruined. Trees were washed down the town’s main street. Cars floated away. Floods ruined the Beartooth Highway, a major road connecting Red Lodge to Billings. “The town looked like a riverbed,” says Roberts. “The whole community was wandering around, trying to grasp what happened.”
The day after the flood, more than 20 people friends, neighbors, strangers, even tourists flocked (群集) to help. “People went into our wet, muddy basement and pulled everything out,” says Roberts. “They sorted and took things home to wash. One person came to clean up our yard. A mother and her two young children pulled rubbish from our chain-link fence.” Helpers even saved her precious photo albums, drying each print before returning it to the book.
And volunteers kept coming every day until summer’s end. “People would not take no for an answer. If I was like, ‘Oh, we’re OK now,’ they’d be like, ‘No, I’m gonna do something,’” she says.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】One possible version:
Soon, all over town, people took action jointly to clean up the whole mess. Volunteer groups, of which Roberts and her husband were members, worked quickly to clear out a space within hours. People offered their vacation homes to the homeless at no charge due to the floods. Restaurant owners organized a gift card group for people to buy gift cards from local businesses to donate to affected residents. Although the collapsed houses were not built yet, everything was slowly improving in harmony and order.
More than a year later, Red Lodge began to take on a new look. In the spring, Roberts finally moved back home, with a freshly poured concrete foundation. The displaced people all returned. The houses were stronger, the roads were wider, and the homes were more beautiful. The peaceful night’s sleep was restored. After joint efforts with others, Roberts was no longer new to Red Lodge, but the builder and owner. “I’m blessed,” said Roberts. “People here are more like family members, braving difficulties together. ”

C
D
