A
Isatou grew up in a small village of N’jau, the Gambia—the smallest country in Africa. She lived with her sisters, brothers and her parents, and from a young age was interested in recycling. She would even use left-over cloth to make toys! Sadly, her father passed away when she was just 10 years old, and Isatou left school to support her family.
When Isatou was little, she would carry a basket to the market. When it broke, she found a plastic bag to use—it worked a treat!
But the plastic bags soon caused problems. People couldn’t deal with them properly and they were simply thrown out and started to cover the streets. They spread diseases, and were eaten by livestock (家禽) who often died as a result.
As an adult, Isatou joined the US Peace Corps as a volunteer—here, she learned more about recycling. She was also inspired to make a change...Could those throwaway plastic bags become something that helped her village?
Joined by five friends, Isatou had an idea to weave (编织) plastic bags into purses. The bags were cleaned and dried, and took eight hours to weave into a purse! The purses were sold at a city market—and people loved them! Within a year, 50 more women joined them, with the money the women made, some of their children were able to continue with education.
The recycling group was known as the ‘one plastic bag’ action, and Isatou was known as ‘The Queen of Recycling’! Years later, a book about her life came out. Because of her achievements, Isatou received the Difference Maker Award(奖) and the Inspiration Award in 2020.

When you are in an exam, you may feel a little bit nervous. You may start to sweat and grow short of breath. You may even become so fearful or worried that you can’t focus or think. This is known as test anxiety, which can stop you in your thinking process. It is a kind of feeling caused by too much stress.
Stress causes different levels of anxiety. Good stress causes just enough worry to get you to focus on a task and do it well. Bad stress, however, does just the opposite. Instead of helping you to focus, bad stress may stop you from thinking or focusing clearly. This stress response hurts more than it helps. So, to do well in exams, you’d better learn how to deal with anxiety in different ways.
The first step is to keep good stress from turning into bad stress. The best way to do this is to get your mind and your body prepared. Instead of treating a test as a big challenge, you can use it as a motivator to push you to learn better. Prepare yourself by making sure you understand what you will be tested on. You can not do well in exams unless you fully understand the knowledge you have learned. And don’t forget to keep your body full of energy by having enough sleep. These will help you do well.
The next step is to know about your body and realize the signs of anxiety before bad stress happens. One way is to place yourself in a “mental room” and check yourself as if watching from above. Being aware of your own stress can help you find out how to keep yourself from experiencing increased anxiety.
When bad stress really comes to you, the key is to relax yourself. If you find yourself highly nervous, take a moment to step back. Stop and close your eyes. Take deep breaths and think of a peaceful place to calm yourself down. As you relax, remind yourself that you have prepared and that all will be fine.
Remember, we all experience anxiety at times. Whether you’re taking a test, performing, or competing, you can use the tips above to keep cool. They will help you be your best for the test and for any other challenges you face.
30. What can we learn about stress?
A. Too much sweat causes stress.
B. Stress helps people focus on a task.
C. A reasonable amount of worry helps people do well.
D. Stress makes people too nervous to work on a task.
31. Which would the writer probably agree on?
A. Keep away from either good or bad stress.
B. Challenge your mind with tasks to become smarter.
C. Focus little on your physical signs of worries.
D. Relaxing can be a good medicine for bad stress.
32. If you are short of breath in an exam, what can you do?
A. Take a step back from your seat.
B. Close your eyes and sleep for a while.
C. Find a peaceful place to sit back and relax.
D. Tell yourself that you have prepared well.
33. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To make students aware of the risks of stress.
B. To ask students to tell good stress from bad stress.
C. To offer advice on how to deal with stress in exams.
D. To remind students that stress is common in our life.
C
An old saying used for forecasting (预测) the weather says, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors (水手) take warning.” Is the saying true? It turns out that it is. A red sky at sunset may mean that there are clear skies to the west, where the sun sets. A red sky at sunrise usually means that the clear weather has already passed, so storms might be coming.
Forecasting the weather has been practiced for thousands of years. In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. They used signs in nature to forecast the weather. But today, meteorologists send exact forecasts further in advance (提前). They use scientific instruments to study weather conditions around the world and make forecasts. Pilots, farmers and many other people depend on these forecasts. Luckily, most of us can simply look on the smart phone or turn on the TV to find out what kind of weather is coming.
If you are looking for some signs of the weather, pay attention to nature. There are two basic rules used in weather forecasting: Weather generally moves from west to east, and low air pressure usually means rain or snow. So pay attention to the signs. If rainbows form in the west at sunrise, the sun is on the way. Smell the flowers—their smells are stronger in wet air. What are the ants doing? Are they moving to higher ground? This could mean a drop in air pressure. Are the birds flying low or high? Falling air pressure may influence birds’ ears, so they fly low. And if the sky is red at sunset, you might plan a picnic for the next day!
34. What is the old saying about?
A. The beauty of sunrise. B. The night sky. C. The signs of the weather. D. The sailors’ work.
35. What does the underlined word “meteorologists” mean?
A. The persons who give daily weather reports on TV.
B. The persons who carry out research on natural history.
C. The persons who take an interest in plants and animals.
D. The persons who do scientific studies of weather conditions.
36. How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 2?
A. By listing the reasons for terrible weather.
B. By telling a true story about weather forecasting.
C. By introducing different ways of forecasting the weather.
D. By mentioning the difficulties in forecasting the weather.
37. What do we know from the last paragraph?
A. It’ll be sunny if ants move to higher places. B. The smells of flowers are stronger in wet air.
C. Birds fly higher because of the low air pressure. D. It’ll rain if rainbows form in the west at sunrise.
D

这是一个定语从句,先行词是“three short videos of kuaiban pieces”,指物,在从句中作主语,所以用关系代词“which”引导。
“a way to do sth.”
“play a role in doing sth.”
“in one’s own way”是固定搭配,表示“以某人自己的方式”,这里指年轻人,用“their”。
“hope that...”

C 35. D 36. C 37. B

The Maritime Silk Road ________ ________ ________ ________ on the trade between different countries in the past.
【答案】 ①. had ②. a ③. great ④. influence##effect
有很大影响”是核心短语,对应的英文表达为have a great influence on/have a great effect on。
The historical records reported ______ several trade routes ______ ______ ______ along the Maritime Silk Road.
【答案】 ①. that ②. were ③. set ④. up
It was ________ important ________ it is still studied today.
【答案】 ①. so ②. that
Guangzhou, as one of the starting points of the Maritime Silk Road, ________ now ________ ______ the Millennium Commercial City.
【答案】 ①. is ②. known ③. as
________ ________ important role the Silk Road played in the cultural contacts!
What ②. an

I am writing to thank you for all the help and sweet memories you have given me over the past years.
When I first entered your class, I was not really interested in this subject. I remember being shy and afraid to open my mouth to speak English. You noticed that and encouraged me to try. Your warm smile and sense of humor really made me feel relaxed and I gradually felt the joy of learning English.
After class, you were always there and ready to help as well. Every time I had a problem, you listened to me patiently and offered me useful advice. Because of you, I’ve become better and better.
Now I feel sad to say goodbye. I am sure I will miss you a lot after entering senior high!
Yours,
Susan
