A
One evening, Helen was sitting around in the garden when she heard a loud noise. At first, she thought something had fallen from her newly repaired house. But as she walked to the front, she saw a small crowd gathered on the sidewalk outside.
When she walked towards the crowd, she saw a man lying in a pool of blood near a broken motorbike. His leg was almost cut off at the knee. Luckily, when Helen asked how he was doing, the young man could still talk, even though he was in great pain. Helen knew some knowledge about first aid and had taken a first aid course with the British Red Cross. She used her skills to quickly check the situation. Then she ran back to her house to get some thick towels to stop the bleeding (流血).
When Helen came back with the towels, someone in the crowd had called an ambulance, but the young man was still bleeding heavily. “When I returned, I noticed that others were afraid to come to the front to help. I tried my best to use the towel to press on the wound until the ambulance arrived.” Helen recalled. Then she managed to stop the bleeding and comforted the young man while they waited for help to arrive. Soon, the ambulance team showed up.
Unluckily, the doctors couldn’t save the man’s leg, but they did save his life and Helen’s actions played a key role. Without the simple but effective first aid skills Helen used, the outcome of the accident could have been far worse.
“Knowing first aid gave me the confidence to assess the situation, stay calm, and most importantly, to step in and help in an emergency situation when others wouldn’t. I feel so glad that my first aid knowledge helped me save a stranger’s life,” Helen said.
26. What did Helen notice when she returned with the towels?
A. The ambulance had already arrived. B. The young man had stopped bleeding.
C. Nobody came forward to help the young man. D. Some doctors were saving the young man’s life.
27. Which of the following can best describe Helen?
A. She is a professional doctor.
B. She knew little about first aid knowledge.
C. She was too afraid to help the injured young man.
D. She was calm and confident in the emergency situation.
28. What is the best title of the story?
A. Helen’s Garden Adventure. B. A Terrible Motorbike Accident.
C. The Ways of Learning First Aid. D. A Meaningful First Aid Experience.
C 27. D 28. D
根据“When I returned, I noticed that others were afraid to come to the front to help.”
根据“Knowing first aid gave me the confidence to assess the situation, stay calm, and most importantly, to step in and help in an emergency situation when others wouldn’t.”
B
Looking at his phone, a teenager quickly types “YYDS” to share his joy. In seconds, replies of “Baode” pop up on the screen to show agreement. This is a common moment of using internet memes (热梗) on social media. With simple words and short phrases, memes have become a major part of our daily communication.
So why are they so popular? Actually, memes act like “social currency”. By using popular memes, young people “buy” likes and attention from others online, showing that they keep up with trends (潮流). Besides, as a common language for young people, memes can help them find their own “group” and give them a powerful sense of belonging.
However, using memes too often brings challenges. Experts worry that these simple words and phrases are taking away the richness of language. If we only use “YYDS”, we may gradually forget how to describe beautiful things or deep feelings with the right words. Finally, we may lose the power to express the small differences in the world.
While we enjoy the fun of memes, we should not depend too much on them. Instead of just using “YYDS”, we should try to describe our feelings with exact words to improve our skills of expression. Reading classic works can also help us build a richer vocabulary to use in daily life. A healthy language needs both new trends and traditional beauty to stay alive in the digital age.
29. Why are memes compared to “social currency” in the text?
A. Because they can be used to make real money online.
B. Because they help young people learn about new trends.
C. Because they can be used to get attention and acceptance.
D. Because they help young people show off their wealth online.
30. What is the result of overusing memes according to Paragraph 3?
A. Lazy habits of thinking. B. Poor skills of expression.
C. Wrong ways of description. D. Weak ability to understand.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. We should use classic words instead of internet words.
B. We should stop using memes to keep our language healthy.
C. Using exact words is more important than enjoying memes.
D. We should balance the use of memes with traditional language.
32. In which part of the newspaper can we probably find the text?
A. Society and Culture. B. Sports and Health.
C. News and Business. D. Science and Technology.
C 30. B 31. D 32. A
根据第二段中的“Actually, memes act like ‘social currency’... young people ‘buy’ likes and attention from others online, showing that they keep up with trends (潮流). Besides, as a common language for young people, …”
根据第三段中的“taking away the richness of language...forget how to describe beautiful things or deep feelings with the right words...lose the power to express the small differences in the world.”
最后一段“we should try to describe our feelings with exact words to improve our skills of expression.…A healthy language needs both new trends and traditional beauty to stay alive in the digital age.”
C
Animals have played an important role in scientific research for a long time. Frogs helped us learn how cells (细胞) work. Pigs helped develop CT scans. But animals are not always perfect models for human beings.
Animal protection is one reason. Besides, raising research animals can be expensive—it takes much time and care. Most importantly, medicines that work on animals often fail on humans. For example, over 90% of cancer drugs that worked well in animals did not help human patients. So scientists are trying to find new research ways.
One new way is artificial intelligence (AI). AI shows its great power in speeding up or replacing (代替) steps in scientists’ work. In one study, an AI model checked 190, 000 chemicals to see if they were harmful. The result was 87 percent correct. It did a better job than repeated animal tests. In another test, scientists used AI to find out how rats would react (反应) to new drugs. The result was almost the same as real animal tests—but no animals were used! In the past, a similar test needed over 8, 000 rats. In the future, AI may help test medicines for humans directly.
Another new way is “organs-on-chips” (器官芯片) technology. Scientists can make a man-made lung or a mini brain on a chip. These tiny organs work like real ones by using human cells. So they are more dependable than animal models for medicine testing.
Will we stop using animals in research completely? Maybe not soon. But scientists are trying their best to reduce the number of research animals.
33. Which of the following is the most important reason for scientists to find new research ways?
A. Animal protection. B. The high cost of raising animals.
C. Fewer research animals. D. Medicines’ animal-human failure.
34. Why are numbers used in paragraph 3?
A. To show the great power of AI in tests.
B. To explain the meaning of scientists’ work.
C. To state the number of animals used in the tests.
D. To prove the importance of animals in medical tests.
35. What does the underlined word “they” refer to in paragraph 4?
A. Scientists. B. Animals. C. Human cells. D. Tiny organs.
36. What’s the structure of the passage? (P= Paragraph)
A. B.
C. D.
D 34. A 35. D 36. B
第二段指出:“Most importantly, medicines that work on animals often fail on humans.”,这直接说明药物在动物与人体实验效果不符是科学家寻找新研究方式最关键的原因。
第三段指出:“AI shows its great power in speeding up or replacing steps in scientists’ work. In one study, an AI model checked 190, 000 chemicals... The result was 87 percent correct... a similar test needed over 8, 000 rats.”,这直接说明列举数字是为展现人工智能在实验中的强大作用。
第四段指出:“Scientists can make a man-made lung or a mini brain on a chip. These tiny organs work like real ones by using human cells. So they are more dependable than animal models for medicine testing.”,可推知划线词they指代前文的微型人造器官“tiny organs”。
D
_________: Please advise!
Amy
Monday 13th May 9:13 p.m.
We have been close for 8 years. When I was a primary school student, she was the popular girl who was willing to make friends with me. Since then, a close friendship has grown between us. But last Saturday, she broke my heart.
We planned to see a film that afternoon. But in the morning, she posted a message saying she had a cold. When I called her, she said she might be able to go to the cinema. “Don’t worry,” I said, “Get some rest. We can wait till you get better.”
Today, however, a classmate told me she had seen my friend chatting with another girl in a café on Saturday afternoon. How stupid I was! My friend’s “illness” was a complete lie!
I was so angry and I still don’t feel like replying to any of her messages. The stress of this situation is killing me, and I’m at a loss what to do next.
Cindy
Monday 13th May 9:52 p.m.
I’m so sorry! But this friendship is worth saving: 8 years is a long time! Don’t be so quick to judge your friend. Perhaps she knows she’s wrong and wants to apologize, or maybe she will explain for her behavior. If so, you can choose to forgive her. Anyway, find a chance to have a talk with her. Listen to what she has to say and tell her how you feel. I’m sure you can solve this problem together.
David
Tuesday 14th May 8:11 a.m.
I truly understand how you feel. I also had a close friend. When I found out that I was tricked by him, I was really hurt and let go of our friendship. I know you value your friendship and want your friend to value it equally. However, if your friend doesn’t care about your feelings or makes you suffer, it’s time to rethink your relationship. Talk to her and decide whether this friendship is still important to you. It’s sad to move on, but you have to accept that friends come and go in life.
37. What do we know about Amy’s friend?
A. She told Amy that she was ill.
B. She made a trick on Amy for fun.
C. She went to the cinema with another girl.
D. She has realized she’s wrong and apologized.
38. What’s the main idea of Cindy’s advice for Amy?
A. Forgiving her friend.
B. Trying to save this friendship.
C. Solving the problem alone.
D. Paying no attention to her friend.
39. For Amy’s problem with her friend, David thinks that she should ______.
A. value their friendship as usual
B. let go of their friendship
C. trick her friend as well
D. decide after they have a talk

Amy帖子第二段“But in the morning, she posted a message saying she had a cold.”
Cindy的帖子中“But this friendship is worth saving: 8 years is a long time!”以及“I’m sure you can solve this problem together.”
David的帖子中“Talk to her and decide whether this friendship is still important to you.”
此外,根据试题背景原文可知标题即为“Friendship on the rocks: please advise!”。

__________ __________ the junior high school life of three years is!
How ②. unforgettable
故填How;unforgettable。
I used to be shy, and __________ __________ __________ __________ me to communicate with others.
【答案】 ①. it ②. was ③. difficult##hard ④. for
【详解】原句中文“和别人沟通对我来说很困难”是关键语义,英语固定句型“it is+形容词+for sb. to do sth. ”表示“对某人来说做某事是……的”;前半句“I used to be shy”为一般过去时,be动词用was;形容词可用difficult或hard。
I __________ much time __________ how to __________ __________ my teachers and classmates.
【答案】 ①. spent ②. learning##studying ③. communicate ④. with
“学习”译为learning或studying;“与某人交流”的英文表达为communicate with sb.(与某人交流),how to后接动词原形。
I don’t know __________ __________ __________ __________ the chance to get together often.
【答案】 ①. whether## if ②. we ③. will ④. have
应填whether/if;we;will; have。
But many wonderful memories __________ __________ __________ __________ us forever.
【答案】 ①. will ②. be ③. treasured ④. by
应填will;be;treasured;by。

A. B.
C. D.

B. She made a trick on Amy for fun.
C. She went to the cinema with another girl.
D. She has realized she’s wrong and apologized.
38. What’s the main idea of Cindy’s advice for Amy?
