Hello, everyone! It’s my honor to make a speech here.
Protecting the environment is important because it helps keep us healthy. We can go green starting from small easy things in daily life. First, we can choose to go out on foot or by bike instead of taking a car. Second, remember to turn off the lights when leaving a room, and bring your own cloth bag when going shopping. Thirdly, never throw rubbish everywhere and keep our surroundings clean. If everyone plays a role, our world will become better and better.
Thanks for listening!

According to the Guinness (吉尼斯) World Records, the Xinhua Dictionary is the world’s most popular dictionary and the best-selling book. That’s really cool!
In 1950, two smart Chinese language experts, Wei Jiangong and Ye Shengtao, started to work on the Xinhua Dictionary. There were a lot of discussions, research and paper work. People’s Daily reported that some hand scripts (稿件) were checked again and again. After three years, with the hard work of all, the first copy of the Xinhua Dictionary came out.
In order to keep up with the times, revisions (修订) to the dictionary go on to be made. So far, the Xinhua Dictionary has been revised 12 times. By giving each copy of the dictionary a code, the 12th edition of the Xinhua Dictionary has got its own “electronic ID card”. With the QR code, the characters in the dictionary now have sounds. It makes the reading and learning process much more interesting and lively.

Balloons are decorations for birthday parties and many other fun events. Must we blow up a balloon by mouth or with a pump (打气筒)? Here is an experiment that can do it in a different way.
WHAT TO DO:
Step 1 Pour lemon juice into the narrow-necked bottle until it is about 25 percent full.
Step 2 Put two spoons of baking soda into the balloon with the funnel.
Step 3 Now carefully stretch the neck of the balloon over the neck of the bottle without letting any baking soda into the bottle.
Step 4 Lift the balloon up so that the baking soda drops into the bottle and mixes with the lemon juice. The mixture will immediately begin to fizz (吱吱声).
HOW DOES IT WORK:
Adding the lemon juice to the baking soda creates a chemical reaction (化学反应). When the two mix, they produce a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2). The gas rises up and goes through the bottle, and it pushes the balloon outwards and blows it up.

Have you heard of “AI self-study rooms”? It is a new business model in education, which has recently appeared in China. It is getting more and more attention, but people hold different opinions about it.
AI self-study rooms bring together AI learning tools, study monitors (监控) and a good learning environment. Students take online classes and do exercises with learning machines. At the same time, monitors help keep order. They also use AI to find students’ weak points and make personalized study plans for them.
A parent told Global Times that AI learning machines are more interactive than common online courses. They can analyze students’ learning and give them proper and challenging questions to reach their learning goals. “Now, students in the countryside can do virtual (虚拟的) biology experiments through AI self-study rooms. This was impossible before because of limited local resources,” said a teacher from Qinghai.
Some people praise AI self-study rooms for their advantages, but others think they are just for show. Some students say some AI learning machines are not smart enough. They cannot teach students in different ways and only give mechanical practice. Their updates are slow, and their fixed question banks often have mistakes, which may mislead students.
As for the price, it costs 200 yuan per hour on weekends and it is 20% off on weekdays. “We can’t afford this service. We have to think carefully about whether the price is worth the learning effect,” a parent from Jiangsu told Global Times.
“I believe AI is helpful to education. But as a new business, AI self-study rooms still face problems, such as poor integration (融合) and unbalanced quality. With continuous technology development, AI learning will become more important in the future,” said Professor Huang from the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences.

A.By telling a story. B.By showing a fact.

B.Rural students can do more real experiments than before.
C.All the AI machines work very well and have no wrong questions.
D.Monitors can use AI to make personal study plans for students.
33.How much will you spend studying in AI self-study rooms for 2 hours on Friday?
A.160 yuan. B.240 yuan. C.320 yuan. D.400 yuan.

A.He is against it. B.He is hopeful about it.
C.He doesn’t care about it. D.He doesn’t give his idea.
35.What is the best title of this passage?
A.AI Self-Study Rooms: Good or Bad? B.High Costs of AI Study Rooms
C.AI Learning for Rural Students D.A New Model: AI Self-Study Rooms

Do you know World Wetlands Day? It falls on February 2nd every year and we welcomed the 29th World Wetlands Day this year, with the topic Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future.
Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil or is present either at or near the surface of the soil for different periods during the year. They are really important for a large number of reasons that you might not realize.
Wetlands, along with oceans and forests, are known as the three major ecosystems of the Earth. There are different types of wetlands. We have got things like rivers, ponds and lakes. And wetlands support various wildlife. As a matter of fact, 50% of the world’s plants and animals depend on wetlands.
Wetlands act like sponges (海绵), taking in water and also carbon (碳) from the air. The plants in wetlands take in climate-changing gases as they grow. Then when the plants die, they fall into mud (泥), catching carbon instead of letting it all return to the air. This can help to reduce the greenhouse effect.
Wetlands also play an important role in the water cycle. They can store lots of water during heavy rainfall, reducing floods (洪水) in downstream areas. Then the water will flow back into rivers and streams slowly.
Unfortunately, we have actually lost nearly 90% of the wetlands in the last 100 years, three times faster than forests. Do you know why? It’s things like pollution, climate change and human activities. Wetlands are important to everything, and we need to take actions to protect them.
36.How does the writer lead into the topic?
A.By comparing. B.By asking a question.
C.By telling a story. D.By giving an example.

C. D.
38.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

A.A Climate Hero B.A Polluted Planet C.The Home for Wildlife D.The Guard of the Earth
40.What might the writer continue talking about?
A.The types of wetlands. B.The functions of wetlands. C.The protection of wetlands. D.The importance of wetlands

Studies have shown that mental health and physical health are closely connected—what is good for the body is often good for the mind. Knowing that may change your day and even your life. 42 They do not realize that weak bodies often lead to tired minds and low moods (情绪).

No matter whether it is during the holidays or at any time of the year, as long as we choose to move, every step we take can bring good changes to our body and mind. So, choose the way that fits you best! Move your way!

31.How does the writer introduce the topic?
A.By telling a story. B.By showing a fact.
C.By asking a question. D.By giving an example.
32.What can we learn about AI self-study rooms according to the passage?
A.Only AI learning tools can be used in the rooms.
B.Rural students can do more real experiments than before.
C.All the AI machines work very well and have no wrong questions.
D.Monitors can use AI to make personal study plans for students.
33.How much will you spend studying in AI self-study rooms for 2 hours on Friday?
A.160 yuan. B.240 yuan. C.320 yuan. D.400 yuan.
34.What is Professor Huang’s attitude toward AI learning?
A.He is against it. B.He is hopeful about it.
C.He doesn’t care about it. D.He doesn’t give his idea.

C. D.
38.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
