三、阅读理解 (每题2.5分, 满分20分)
A
When I was growing up, I had an old neighbour named Doctor Gibbs. He didn’t look like any other doctor I’d ever known. He never shouted to us for playing in his yard, and was always very kind.
When Doctor Gibbs wasn’t saving lives, he was planting trees. He had interesting opinions about planting trees. He hardly watered his new trees, which was quite different from others. Once I asked why and he told me that watering plants overprotected them because it made them grow weaker. He said, “Without enough water, they will have to grow deeper roots in order to search for water themselves. Having deeper roots helps them be stronger and live longer. ” Doctor Gibbs died a couple of years after I left home. Every now and then, I walked by his house and looked at the trees that I’d watched him plant about 25 years ago. They were all tall and strong.
I planted a couple of trees myself a few years ago. Two years of caring for these trees meant they grew up weak. Hard environment seemed to benefit Doctor Gibbs’ trees in ways comfort never could.
When my son was a little baby, my wife and I often wished that his life would be easy. But now I’ve been thinking that it’s time to change our thought. I know he is going to meet with difficulties. There’s always a cold wind blowing somewhere. What we need to do is expecting him to have deep roots, so when the rains fall and the winds blow, he won’t be beaten.
13. Why did Doctor Gibbs hardly water his new trees?
A. He was careless and didn’t like taking care of trees.
B. He was too busy in saving lives to water them often.
C. He believed overprotecting them made them weaker.
D. He thought it was enough to give the best wishes to trees.
14. What were the trees planted by Dr Gibbs like after 25 years?
A. Short and weak. B. Tall and strong.
C. Short but strong. D. Tall but weak.
15. Which is probably the author’s wish for his son now?
A. Meet people like Dr Gibbs in the future.
B. Be lucky and experience less difficulties.
C. Have an easy, happy and comfortable life.
D. Be able to stand the rains and winds in his life.
16. What is the best title for the text?
A. Helping my son. B. Growing roots.
C. Watering trees. D. Doctor Gibbs’ trees.
【答案】13. C 14. B 15. D 16. B

Football is my favorite sport. I loved to watch it, but I had never played in a football game before I went to college. I lacked self-confidence and I doubted if I could do well in a team, which was why I hardly did sports together with others. I just loved practicing playing football in the backyard of my house.
About one month after I went to college, one day some of my classmates said they'd play a football game with some players of another class. I really looked forward to it but never thought I'd join them to play. That day finally came and I went to watch with my classmates. However, just about ten minutes after the game started, one member of our football team got injured and could no longer play. The other members looked worried. Then one of them came to me and asked, “Can you play?” At first, I shook my head, but then I nodded. “Great! Come and play,” he said. I followed him, having no idea at all what to do. To my joy, he asked me to play in defense (防守). Defense was my favorite because I found it more fun and less complicated (复杂的). Then the game began again. There weren't a lot of big kids on the offensive line (攻击线) of the other team and I suddenly gained some self-confidence. About five minutes later, the ball was kicked toward the guard. I thought it was a good opportunity for me. I quickly ran past the guard and got the ball. When the guard came to the offensive line, I kicked the ball. I scored and all my classmates cheered. You may not believe it, but I scored twice that time. The final score was 6—2 and we won. My teammates thought that I did very well and none of them believed I hadn't played in a game before.
That game really changed me. I am a really confident person now and often play football games with my teammates.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段文字,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last winter, 16-year-old Jim often passed an old forest on his way home from school. One cold afternoon, he heard a weak cry under a thick bush. Pushing the branches aside, he found a small fox (狐狸) with a hurt left leg, its fur covered with snow. The fox looked at him with frightened eyes but didn’t try to escape — it seemed too weak to move.
Feeling sorry for the little animal, Jim gently picked it up and wrapped it in his warm scarf. He took it home secretly, because his parents didn’t allow pets. He named the fox Lucky, carefully cleaned its wound, and fed it milk and bread every day. Lucky slowly recovered and grew very attached to Jim. It would wait by the door to greet him after school and often lay beside him while he did homework.
But the good times didn’t last. One day, Jim returned home to find Lucky gone. The window was open, and there were fox tracks outside. Worried, he searched everywhere without success. Just as he was about to give up, he heard a familiar cry from outside the house.
要求:

2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

He stroked Lucky’s fur softly, feeling grateful for this silent gratitude.
Jim’s parents, seeing their bond, gradually softened.
Jim would keep in mind the day he saved it...
The cold forest no longer seemed lonely...
Para1. Jim rushed out of the house in surprise and saw Lucky standing at the door, with a small rabbit in his mouth.

Para 2. From then on, Lucky came to visit Jim every few days.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Para1. Jim rushed out of the house in surprise and saw Lucky standing at the door, with a small rabbit in his mouth. In surprise, Jim lowered his voice and called Lucky. It put the rabbit gently at Jim’s feet, its tail wagging softly, as if presenting a gift to thank him for saving its life. Jim stroked Lucky’s fur softly, feeling grateful for this silent gratitude. Jim’s parents, seeing their bond, gradually softened. They no longer objected to Lucky’s coming, knowing it was a way for the fox to repay Jim’s kindness.
Para 2. From then on, Lucky came to visit Jim every few days. Sometimes it brought a small branch or a bright stone, and sometimes it just lay beside Jim quietly, enjoying the warm moment together. Jim would keep in mind the day he saved it, realizing that kindness always brings warmth and connection. The cold forest no longer seemed lonely, for it had witnessed a precious friendship between a boy and a fox, built on care and gratitude.

七、阅读理解 (每小题2.5分, 共15分)
In our community, there lives an elderly lady named Mrs. Johnson. Now in her seventies, she has spent the last 2 decades taking care of a small public garden at the end of our street. The garden was once a neglected piece of land, full of weeds and rubbish. One day, Mrs. Johnson decided to change it. She started cleaning it up, all by herself.
Every morning, rain or shine, she can be seen there. She pulls out weeds, plants flowers, and waters the young trees. She uses her own money to buy seeds and tools. When asked why she does this, she simply smiles and says, ”A beautiful place makes people happy. It’s worth the effort.“
Her hard work has paid off. The garden is now the most beautiful spot in our neighbourhood. Children play there, families have picnics, and elderly people take walks. It has become a centre for community life. More importantly, her quiet dedication has inspired others. Some neighbours now volunteer to help her at weekends. A few teenagers have started to help with the heavy work.
Mrs. Johnson doesn’t have much money, and she never seeks praise. Her reward is the laughter of children and the gratitude of neighbours. She has taught us that being admirable doesn’t require grand actions; small, persistent acts of kindness can make a big difference.

C卷 (30分)
