范文:
Dear Jim,
I'm glad to hear from you and your wonderful volunteer experience in the children's hospital! It's so heartwarming that you cheered up the boy who had a bad accident. Your kindness really made a difference to him.
I have also volunteered at a community library before. I helped sort out books and read stories to little kids there. At first, I was a little nervous, but seeing the kids' bright smiles made me feel incredibly happy and fulfilled.
For your volunteer advice, I think you should choose something you really love. It will be easier to enjoy the process and do well. Also, be patient and caring, and you will build a good connection with the people you help.
Yours,
Li Hua

Akuapem is in the eastern part of Ghana. The sun there shines all the time. The local people are very friendly and hospitable(好客的). Now let's have a look at how Akuapem people receive a visitor.A visitor is often welcomed warmly in a family of Akuapem. After the visitor is welcomed into the house, he is offered a seat and water at the very beginning, because the host assumes that the visitor must have come from a very long journey and need water. If there is a group of visitors, the host will greet the visitors from right to left. And the host shakes only with his right hand, because Akuapem people think the left hand is not clean.
Next, the visitor is asked how his journey was and why he has come. While the conversation is going on, the wife and the children, especially girls, are preparing food for the visitor. The visitor can choose his favorite food. After the visitor finishes eating, the host and the visitor go on with their conversation. Usually this is a short one because the visitor is getting ready to say goodbye.
When the visitor is leaving, he is often given some food. He is also accompanied(陪伴) by one of the children to the nearest station. The child who accompanies the visitor will not come back home until the visitor leaves safely.
Whether he is a close friend or just a stranger, this is always how friendly Akuapem people receive a visitor.

Do you know Jack-o'-lantern in the Halloween? It is usually made of pumpkins(南瓜).
There are 2 billion pounds of pumpkins planted in the US each year. Most of them are carved(雕刻) up instead of eaten.Someone often asks a few questions:Are the pumpkins sold for Jack-o'-lanters different from pumpkins sold as food? And are Halloween pumpkins any good to eat?
Howden pumpkins are the most common decorative(装饰性的)pumpkins. They are specifically for carving into Jack-o'-lanterns,with a round shape, deep orange color.
Because they're for decoration first, carving pumpkins don't taste very good."Uncut carving pumpkins are safe to eat;however,it's not the best type to use for cooking,"Daria McKelvey tells Mental Floss.
Of course, there are also many pumpkin varieties for cooking and eating. These include Sugar Pie, Kabocha, and Cinderella pumpkins. You can shop for these pumpkins at local farms or in the store. They should be easy to tell apart from the carving pumpkins for Halloween:Unlike decorative pumpkins, cooking pumpkins are small and dense(紧实的).This is part of the reason why they taste better.McKelvey says,"Cooking pumpkins are smaller, sweeter, have a thicker rind(皮),and have fewer fibers(纤维), making them easier to cook with--but not so good for carving."
Whatever you do,make sure your pumpkin isn't carved up already when you decide to cook with it. There are many ways to recycle your Jack-o'-lanters,but turning them into pie isn't one of them.
( )23.What kind of pumpkins are the most common decorative pumpkins?
A.Big green pumpkins. B.Long orange pumpkins.
C.Small and dense pumpkins. D.Round and deep orange pumpkins.
( )24.Why don't Halloween pumpkins taste very good?
A.Because they are too sweet. B.Because they have more fibers.
C.Because they are small and dense. D.Because they are not safe.
( )25.What's Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.Many ways to recycle your pumpkins. B.Pumpkins for Halloween.
C.Pumpkins for cooking and eating. D.Decorative pumpkins in America.

It was last July.Tens of thousands of pencils lay on the tables of the Colfax Historical Society Museum in the U.S. State of Iowa.None of them was sharpened. Some were in plastic containers.Others were just held together.
All of them belonged to Aaron Bartholmey. The 36-year-old started collecting pencils after his first-grade teacher gifted each student a colored pencil for Christmas. He then started buying interesting pencils at flea markets(旧货市场).In high school, he joined the American Pencil Collectors Society. His collection quickly grew into the thousands.
Some of Bartholmey's pencils are from World War IIOn these pencils, the band(箍)around the eraser is made with cardboard or plastic. That's because metal had to be saved for the war. One of Bartholmey's favorite pencils is a 1926 gold-and-silver one.It marked the 150th birthday of the United States."I've always enjoyed the stories behind the pencils,"the man said."What I collect is much more than just the pencils themselves."
Bartholmey has always kept a detailed record of his collection. But that was not enough for him to apply for a Guinness World Record. The organization required a public count.
Ahead of the event,Bartholmey made five trips in his car to send about 470 boxes of pencils to the museum. The count began at 8 a.m.on July 1,2023.Bartholmey watched as two counters went through one box at a time. The first counter counted and recorded a number before passing it to the second for a recount.By9 p.m,they still hadn't finished. They started again the next morning. After another five hours of counting, one of the counters finally held up the last pencil. In all, there were 69,255 pencils.
Bartholmey now holds the record for the largest collection of pencils in the world. But the number is only part of the story. He can never hide his excitement when he finds another unusual pencil and learns its history.
( )27.What raised Bartholmey's interest in collecting pencils?
A.A colored pencil for Christmas B.The Museum in lowa.

( )26.What is the best title for the text
A.How to Eat Pumpkins B.Different Kinds of Pumpkins

It was last July.Tens of thousands of pencils lay on the tables of the Colfax Historical Society Museum in the U.S. State of Iowa.None of them was sharpened. Some were in plastic containers.Others were just held together.

Bartholmey has always kept a detailed record of his collection. But that was not enough for him to apply for a Guinness World Record. The organization required a public count.
Ahead of the event,Bartholmey made five trips in his car to send about 470 boxes of pencils to the museum. 72. slowly 解析:此处修饰动词短语 grow up,需要用副词,slow(形容词,慢的)的副词形式为 slowly(慢慢地)。
73. with 解析:固定搭配 work with sb./sth.
主语 More than 250 million people 是复数,助动词用 have,plant 的过去分词为 planted,故填 have planted。

How was this month? I have had a great time volunteering in a children's hospital. I helped cheer up a boy who lost his right leg in a traffic accident. I played games with him and I even acted as some animals to make him laugh. In those days, he became happier than before. I'm really happy about what I did.
Have you ever volunteered somewhere? What did you do? How was your feeling? Do you have some advice on volunteering?
Dear Jim,
I'm glad to hear from you and your wonderful volunteer experience in the children's hospital!

Bartholmey has always kept a detailed record of his collection. But that was not enough for him to apply for a Guinness World Record. The organization required a public count.
Ahead of the event,Bartholmey made five trips in his car to send about 470 boxes of pencils to the museum.
