(6) Just as Peking duck is to Beijing and spicy hot pot is to Sichuan, zao cha is the soul of Guangzhou’s food culture. Recently, a set of new rules has been made about Guangzhou morning tea culture. These rules divide morning tea into “traditional” and “non-traditional” types for special protection. While these rules give legal (法律的) importance to the local morning tea tradition, they also raise a question: Why does zao cha deserve such high attention and protection in Guangzhou? The answer lies in its cultural and social values. Dating back to the Qing Dynasty, this tradition has developed its key feature: “Yizhong Liangjian (一盅两件)”, which means “one pot of tea and two dim sum dishes.” The “tea” usually refers to Pu’er or chrysanthemum tea, while the most popular dim sum dishes include shrimp dumplings, Char siu bao, Shaomai and egg tarts. “Just as some people enjoy working at a cafe, I prefer our morning tea houses. It’s my way of slowing down, and it reflects the unhurried attitude toward life,” said Liao Li, a 34-year-old local from Guangzhou. The “unhurried lifestyle” shown by zao cha has made this food tradition an important part of life for local people. Actually, the new rules aim not just to protect the dishes, but to safeguard the city’s collective (集体的) cultural memory. Not just tea and dishes, tea houses found all over the city can draw people of different backgrounds to one place. In other words, a morning tea house can serve as a social living room. “We are both retired, so joining our old friends at the tea house is our daily ‘job’ now,” said Liao Guangming, a 67-year-old retired teacher. 26.How does the writer introduce zao cha? A.By comparing it to other famous Chinese foods. B.By describing its taste and popularity. C.By telling a story about its history. D.By listing its main ingredients. 27.What is the key feature of Guangzhou morning tea culture? A.Tea houses all over the city. B.Shrimp dumplings and egg tarts. C.Pu’er tea and chrysanthemum tea. D.One pot of tea and two dim sum dishes. 28.What can be inferred from Liao Li’s words in the 4th paragraph? A.She thinks morning tea houses help people to relax. B.She prefers working at a cafe to going to tea houses. C.She believes morning tea is only for the elderly. D.She finds tea houses too crowded for her taste. 29.What role do tea houses play according to Liao Guangming? A.They are for retired people only. B.They serve as a social living room. C.They are mainly for tourists to visit. D.They offer the cheapest food in the city. 30.In which part of the newspaper can we see the passage? A.Science & Technology B.Food & Stories C.Culture & Lifestyle D.Business & Economy (7) The first hot-air balloon was created in 1783. The hot-air balloon is one of the simplest forms of transportation and is still in use today. It uses hot air stuck inside a huge balloon to lift passengers high into the sky. Why can hot air do that? That is because gases are made up of billions of atoms (原子) or molecules (分子) that move around freely. The hotter a gas gets, the faster they move and the farther they spread out, making the gas expand (膨胀). When the balloon is on the ground, the air inside it is not much warmer than the air outside. Air molecules inside and out are equally spaced (等距)—we say they have the same density (密度). When the pilot heats the air inside the balloon, the molecules spread out. The air in the balloon becomes less dense, which makes it lighter. As a result, the balloon rises. The warmer the air in the balloon gets, the less dense and lighter it gets compared to the heavier, cooler air outside. The balloon rises higher and higher. To bring the balloon back down, the pilot needs to cool the air inside it. He releases (释放) some of the hot air through an opening at the top. Cool air is drawn in at the bottom to take the place of it, and the balloon falls down. Soon after the first hot-air balloon was flown, people began trying huge balloons that could carry passengers a long way. Called airships, some of these used hydrogen (氢气) instead of hot air because hydrogen has a much lower density than air. However, hydrogen burns, and it caused blow-ups. Today, airships are filled with helium (氦气), which has a low density but doesn’t burn. 31.What can we know about hot-air balloons according to the text? A.They can move around freely. B.They fly higher than other airships. C.They’re the oldest form of travel. D.They work by heating the air inside. 32.Which picture best describes “The hot-air balloon is falling down.”? A. B. C. D. 33.Why is helium used in modern airships instead of hydrogen? A.It’s easier to produce than hydrogen. B.It’s light and it’s safer than hydrogen. C.It can make airships fly much faster. D.It can spread out faster than hydrogen. 34.Why can birds use rising air to fly higher? A.Warm air rises and lifts them up. B.The Sun carries them upward. C.The wind directly pushes them up. D.The ground gives them power. 35.What is the text mainly about? A.It tells the history and safety rules of old airships. B.It shows how people heat and cool hot-air balloons. C.It introduces how birds use rising air to fly in the sky. D.It explains the science of hot air and its uses in flying. (8) Our earth is facing serious environmental problems, such as pollution and climate change. To protect our planet, more countries are turning to green technology. It helps produce energy with less pollution and protects nature. Solar power is one of the most popular kinds of green technology. It uses sunlight to produce electricity. Many families put solar panels (太阳能板) on their houses. They can make electricity for their own use and even send extra energy back to the city’s power system. Wind power is also widely used. Tall wind turbines (发电机) catch wind energy and turn it into electricity. Places with strong wind are great for setting up wind farms. This kind of energy is clean and will never run out. Besides, new energy vehicles (车), such as electric cars, are becoming more common. They run on electricity instead of gas, so they produce almost no air pollution. More charging (充电) stations are being built to meet the growing need. However, green technology also has problems. For example, solar panels and wind turbines need much space and cost a lot. But as technology improves, these problems will be solved little by little. Green technology is not just a choice but a necessary way for humans to live in harmony with nature. 36.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Solar power and wind power are cheap to use. B.Green technology helps protect the environment. C.Many families are using new energy vehicles. D.Earth is facing serious pollution and climate change. 37.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A.Our earth. B.Pollution. C.Climate change. It has six hydropower stations (水电站): Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, the Three Gorges and Gezhouba. In 2025, this whole project worked safely. It did a lot of good for the Yangtze River area, such as preventing floods (洪水), providing water, giving electricity and protecting the environment. First, it did a great job in preventing floods. In 2025, West China had the heaviest rain since 1961. The project changed its usual working way and controlled floods. This kept the area safe from floods. Second, it provided plenty of water. The project carried water to the middle and lower parts of the Yangtze River. The Three Gorges hydropower station also sent out water three times for farming, which met the water needs for summer rice. What’s more, it gave water to the Hanjiang River during the flood season, and this greatly increased the water supply for the middle and lower parts of the Hanjiang River. Third, it gave green electricity. The project ran perfectly at a high standard for a long time, which met the high electricity demand in summer. By the end of 2025, it produced over 34 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Finally, it protected the environment well. 13 ecological laws were carried out in this project. One dessert looked like a spinning (旋转的) top toy, and another looked like a pretty leaf! The second-place team was France, and Malaysia came third. As you can imagine, making so much food is not a piece of cake — it’s a very difficult and tiring competition. And it took place on the sidelines of the SIRHA Food Exhibition. The stands were full of fans who were waving flags and shouting their teams’ names. Each team which included a chocolatier, a sugar expert and an ice master was challenged with making a frozen dessert, a restaurant dessert, an ice sculpture and a beautiful display of sugar and chocolate centerpieces (中心装饰品). They show great respect to their home country in their desserts’ taste and appearance. ________ These teams also wore clothes from their countries. They also served small finger foods from a food truck for one challenge. The Pastry World Cup is not just a contest. It’s a big celebration of food, art, and culture. D.Green technology. 38.What can we learn about solar power from Paragraph 2? A.It produces electricity with wind. B.It can only be used in big cities. C.People can send extra electricity to the city’s power system. D.It costs little money and needs little space. 39.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.Wind power is dirty and will run out soon. B.Electric cars make little air pollution. C.Green technology has no problems at all. D.Solar panels are very cheap to set up. 40.What is the best title for the passage? A.Serious Pollution on Earth B.Popular Clean Energy Vehicles C.Green Technology Protecting Our Earth D.How to Build Wind Farms (9) On the Yangtze River, there is the world’s largest clean energy project.
