How Does Paper Get Made?
Why Is the Earth Round But the Road Looks Flat?
Step 1: Paper starts from trees. The trees are cut into wood, and the wood is cut into small pieces called chips.
Step 2: Chips are mixed with water and crushed into a soft, wet paste called wood pulp.
The Earth is round One trip around the Earth is about 40,000 km.
Our eyes can only see a short distance. The part we see is less than 0.000196 of the Earth. The Earth is already curved, but it’s just too small to see.
Step 3: The pulp is spread out very thin on a moving screen. Water gets away, and the pulp turns into a wet sheet that looks like paper.
Step 4: The wet sheet is pressed by heavy rollers. Then it goes through hot dryers to dry up all the water.
What shows the Earth is round?
▪ Ships disappear from the bottom first.
▪ From higher places, we can see farther.
▪People on mountains see the sunrise earlier.
Step 5: The dry paper is cut into different sizes. Now it’s ready to become books, notebooks, or boxes!
27. What is the right process in “Trees→ ________ →Wet Sheet”?
A. Wet Sheet→Wood→Chips→Pulp B. Wood→Chips→Wet Sheet→Pulp
C. Chips→Pulp→Wet Sheet→Wood D. Wood→Chips→Pulp→Wet Sheet
28. Where is the pulp spread out?
A. On a hot dryer. B. On a moving screen. C. In a wet paste. D. In a huge box.
29. Why does the road look flat?
A. Because the Earth is not really round.
B. Because our eyes can see most of the surface.
C. Because the road is much bigger than the Earth.
D. Because eyes can only see a small part of the Earth.
30. According to the passage, which pictures show the Earth is round?
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④ D. ①②④
31. The two pages are from the same book. What is this book most probably about?
A. Science. B. Health. C. Travel. D. History.
B
Every year on 22nd April, we celebrate Earth Day all around the world, reminding people worldwide to protect our planet. It started in 1970 when millions of Americans came together to fight against pollution and environmental damage (破坏). This first Earth Day led to new environmental laws and inspired people in over 190 countries to take action.
Of all kinds of pollution, plastic pollution is now a serious problem.
What is plastic pollution?
Many things we use every day are made of plastic. The plastic that humans use every year weighs the same as 30 million elephants! When it is thrown away, most plastic ends up in the oceans and rivers. Plastic pollution is harming our planet. When plastic is in the oceans or rivers, fish and other sea animals can get trapped (卡住) or eat it by mistake. This is very harmful to the animals and can even kill them. Plastic bags are killing over 100,000 fish and birds every year. By the year 2050, there could be more plastic in the world’s oceans than fish! Plastic is very strong, and it takes more than 400 years to disappear.
▲
There are lots of things we can all do to help end plastic pollution. We need to remember the three “Rs”. It is important to first try to “reduce” our use of plastics, such as refusing plastic bags and cups. Then “reuse” as much as possible, like using clean water bottles again and again. The last one is to “recycle” plastic waste, for example, by turning used plastic into new things. This has a good influence on the environment.
32. What was the result of the first Earth Day?
A. New environmental laws were made. B. It drew people’s attention to plastic.
C. Many Americans set up an organization. D. It solved all kinds of pollution problems.
33. Why is plastic pollution harmful to sea animals?
A. Because plastic makes the ocean water too warm.
B. Because plastic is widely used in people’s daily life.
C. Because plastic stops sea animals from moving or kills them.
D. Because plastic makes sea animals swim even more quickly.
34. According to the passage, which picture should be placed at the question mark?
A. B. C. D.
35. Which is a “reduce” action?
A. Put rubbish into different bins. B. Collect plastic waste and sell it.
C. Clean plastic boxes and use them again. D. Buy fewer plastic bottles in daily life.
36. Which sentence can be put in ▲ ?
A. What actions can we take? B. What causes plastic pollution?
C. Why is there plastic pollution? D. When will plastic pollution disappear?
C
It’s 2 a.m., and you have an important test in seven hours. You have been studying for days, but you still don’t feel ready. What can you do? Maybe you could drink another cup of coffee and keep studying. But believe it or not, it’s better for you to close your books and go to sleep.
Sleep takes up nearly one third of our lives. However, many people do not pay enough attention to it. This is because of the wrong idea about sleep. Sleep is not a waste of time. It is a very important process. While you sleep, your body rests and repairs itself, and keeps itself working well. Sleep is also very important for your brain. About one fifth of your blood goes to your brain when you sleep. At night, your brain is busy organizing information. This is very important for your memory.
The 19th-century scientist Hermann Ebbinghaus found that people usually forget 40% of new information in the first 20 minutes. This is called the forgetting curve (曲线). However, this losing of information can be avoided through memory consolidation (巩固). One of the most important things for memory consolidation is a good night’s sleep. During sleep, important knowledge is brought back again and stored as long-term memories. This is why sleeping after studying is highly helpful.
Not getting enough sleep not only hurts your health but also makes it harder to remember what you have learned. That is why people say, “Sleep on it.” While you sleep, your brain is building new connections. With enough sleep, you will wake up with a clearer, more powerful brain, ready to face the day.
37. What is the writer’s opinion in Para.1?
A. Good sleep is better than staying up late to study.
B. It’s necessary to drink coffee when studying late.
C. Studying for days can help pass an important test.
D. It’s impossible to get ready for a test in seven hours.
38. What does the body do when we sleep?
A. It stops all its work to save energy for the brain.
B. It sends all blood to the brain to help memorize.
C. It starts to learn new knowledge again and stores it.
D. It rests, repairs itself and keeps itself working well.
39. What can we know from Para.3?
A. People will forget all new information in 20 minutes.
B. The forgetting curve can be stopped by drinking coffee.
C. Memory consolidation is important to avoid losing information.
D. New information can be stored as long-term memory without sleep.
40. What does the underlined phrase “Sleep on it” mean in the passage?
A. Sleep to forget the trouble of studying.
B. Sleep to help the brain remember knowledge.
C. Sleep all night and give up studying for the test.
D. Sleep to make the body stronger for studying.
41. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To explain why people forget information easily.
B. To introduce the finding of Hermann Ebbinghaus.
C. To tell people the importance of sleep for memory.
D. To advise people to drink less coffee when studying.

What makes us human?
When AI makes life easier than ever before, perhaps we should ask ourselves the question: “What is the true value of humans?”
If you could choose only one word to show you are not AI, what would it be?
Hurry. It takes 30 minutes for a hospital to give back test results. The patients know this, but why do they check them every few minutes? Humans do not live in totally objective (客观的) time. Our experience of time is shaped by feelings.
Slow. When we talk about speed, we think of AI, but humans love to slow down with people they care about. AI only cares about speed and correct answers, but I hope humans can walk slowly, speak slowly and grow slowly. I like to spend time on a beautiful life.
Courage. AI can work out problems and make choices, but it can never feel fear or choose to be brave. Humans may be afraid, but we still choose to keep going and help others. This courage only belongs to humans.
Hate. AI has no likes or dislikes. It never feels angry or hates anything. Only humans can have strong feelings of hate, and this shows we have real, deep emotions (感情).
Regret. AI never feels sorry for the past. It does not regret what it has done. But humans often remember old things and feel regret. This warm, sad feeling makes us truly human.
57. How many keywords about being human are mentioned? What are they?
__________________________________________
58. 根据短文内容填空(每空一词)。

Ella walked into the kitchen with a big smile, turning around happily. She felt like a famous model, proud of the dress she made all by herself.
Her family was having breakfast. Mom praised the beautiful dress and was shocked that Ella sewed (缝制) it all alone. Her dad said he was really proud of her. Her twin sister was surprised because Ella worked on the dress in secret for two weeks. Her two brothers also said it looked amazing.
This made Ella’s heart full of joy. She had worked on the dress for two weeks and met many difficulties, but she felt it was all worth it. She believed it was going to be a great day.
At school, many classmates praised Ella’s dress. This made Ella even happier. During the last break, Ella sat on the swing, dreaming of having her own style one day.

Ella stayed outside, holding her torn dress. Her teacher, Miss Miller, noticed and walked over. Ella sadly said she didn’t make the dress well because it was torn easily. Miss Miller hugged her gently, saying even store - bought clothes are sometimes torn, and her dress was still beautiful. Then she took off her own long sweater and helped Ella put it on to cover the torn dress.
When Ella got home, she told her mother everything, feeling it was a terrible day. Mom hugged her, praised her for making such a beautiful dress. Then she showed her an old sewing machine.
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④ D. ①②④

【答案】32. A 33. C 34. C 35. D 36. A

【导语】本文主要介绍了世界地球日,重点说明了塑料污染的危害(流入海洋、伤害生物、难以降解),并提出了应对塑料污染的“3R原则”(减少使用、重复利用、回收利用)。
【32题详解】
根据第一段的“This first Earth Day led to new environmental laws and inspired people in over 190 countries to take action.”可知,第一个地球日的结果是催生了新的环保法律。
【33题详解】
根据第四段的“When plastic is in the oceans or rivers, fish and other sea animals can get trapped (卡住) or eat it by mistake. This is very harmful to the animals and can even kill them.”
根据最后一段的“It is important to first try to ‘reduce’ our use of plastics, such as refusing plastic bags and cups.”可知,在生活中减少购买塑料瓶属于“减少使用”。
【36题详解】
最后一段讲的是人们为了停止塑料污染可以采取的行动,因此本段的问句应该是 “我们可以采取什么行动”。
【答案】37. A 38. D 39. C 40. B 41. C

If you could choose only one word to show you are not AI, what would it be?
Hurry. It takes 30 minutes for a hospital to give back test results. The patients know this, but why do they check them every few minutes? Humans do not live in totally objective (客观的) time. Our experience of time is shaped by feelings.

第一段提到“Ella walked into the kitchen with a big smile, turning around happily. She felt like a famous model, proud of the dress she made all by herself.”,这说明Ella走进厨房的时候感觉自己像个名模是因为她为自己亲手做的漂亮裙子感到骄傲。
【61题详解】
第二段中“Mom praised the beautiful dress and was shocked that Ella sewed (缝制) it all alone. Her dad said he was really proud of her. Her twin sister was surprised because Ella worked on the dress in secret for two weeks. Her two brothers also said it looked amazing.”和第四段中“At school, many classmates praised Ella’s dress.”明确提到,Ella的漂亮裙子被家人和同学所表扬,所以第①空填was praised;第五段中“When the bell rang, Ella jumped off the swing.…Her dress had torn (撕裂) all the way down the back! Ella felt embarrassed, thinking she had made a bad dress.”,第六段中“Ella sadly said she didn’t make the dress well because it was torn easily.”以及最后一段中“When Ella got home, she told her mother everything, feeling it was a terrible day.”提到,铃响时,Ella从秋千上跳了下来,她的裙子从后面一直扯破了,她觉得很尴尬和难过,认为自己做了一件糟糕的衣服。她认为,这是糟糕的一天。所以第②空应填embarrassed and sad,第③空应填she had made a bad dress或者she didn’t make the dress well,第④空应填a terrible day;最后一段中“Mom hugged her, praised her for making such a beautiful dress. Then she showed her an old sewing machine. Mom said, ‘This was Grandma’s. I think it’s time for you to have it. It’s the best day for you! This sewing machine was the start of your dream!’”明确提到,妈妈告诉她,这是最好的一天。所以第⑤空应填the best day。

How to Keep Healthy
Nowadays, many students are in poor health. Some spend too much time on phones or homework, so they seldom do sports. Others think exercise is tiring and boring.
To stay healthy, I think we should take exercise for at least 2 hours every day at school. We can make full use of the 15-minute break to walk or play sports. Also, we can run, play basketball or do some outdoor activities after class.
