Then, Stapleton leaves the room and walks to a shed in the yard. He opens the door and there is a strange noise from inside. After a minute he locks the door and goes back into the house. I hurry back to report everything to Lestrade and Holmes.
There is now a thick white fog over the moor. “The fog is getting thicker,” says Holmes, “This is very serious--Sir Henry must go home soon.”
Suddenly, we hear footsteps. They get closer and we see Sir Henry walking towards us through the fog. Then, we hear something. A terrible animal appears. It is a huge black hound. There is fire coming from its mouth and its huge eyes are glowing.
The hound runs after Sir Henry. Holmes and I both fire our guns. We hit it but the hound doesn’t stop. It jumps on Sir Henry and pushes him to the ground. Holmes points his gun and shoots the hound five times. The giant hound is dead.
Sir Henry is lying on the path. We run to him and find he is alive.
I put my hand on the hound’s glowing face and find my own fingers glow in the dark. “Phosphorous(含磷的),” I say.
We walk toward Merripit House to search for Stapleton. In the house we don’t find him, but we find Mrs. Stapleton tied up in a bedroom. We untie her. When she knows Sir Henry is alive and the hound is dead, she cries, “Thank God! ”
“Now we have proof, we need Stapleton.” says Holmes.

B
It was a summer, but what a summer.
I once had my own vegetable garden. It was my first and also my last because I couldn’t go to the countryside often enough to keep my eyes on it. Anyway, the second summer, the bugs (虫) found us and ate some of the vegetables. I could see the garden needed more care than I could give it, and I stopped.
But the first season was so pleasant. I still remember sitting in that garden— fresh air on my face, quiet all around me. Sometimes I would sing, softly at first, then a little louder. Soon a small group of cows walked over and put their big heads over the fence (栅栏), looking at me gently. Mostly I sat there, picking green beans, boiling them, adding a little butter and salt, and eating them just like that. They were so delicious that I felt like singing again, right there in the quiet garden.
Once I thought life was too short for all my dreams. There were so many choices, and it made me sad that things had to end or I had to choose between them. How could I both live on a farm and travel the world? It seemed that enjoying life fully only meant loss (失落).
▲ These memories are a permanent (永恒的) part of me. I often think back to that wonderful summer and my lovely garden. Little by little, the truth became okay with me: someone who loves many things can’t make all of them permanent. You have to walk away from one thing so you can have another. So, it’s common for us to feel a little lost sometimes.
Then I understood that summer with my fresh vegetables, the hours I spent sitting on the ground, and the unexpected love from the cows—all these filled an empty place in my heart.
And it has never been empty since.
25. What made the author stop planting the vegetable garden?
A. She didn’t have enough time or energy for it. B. The garden was too far away for her to visit.
C. The plants were eaten by insects. D. She was not interested in it.
26. Which of the following is NOT a simple pleasure for the author in her garden time?
A. Enjoying the quiet and fresh air. B. Eating freshly cooked vegetables.
C. Selling vegetables for money. D. Having unexpected animal visitors.
27. Which of the following may be the best to put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 5?
A. However, I soon forgot the garden. B. However, nothing was lost.
C. Besides, I felt upset about the dead plants. D. Besides, those days were a waste of time.
28. According to the author, what did the experience of that summer finally bring to her life?
A. The sad feeling of not keeping the garden.
B. The skills to grow vegetables successfully.
C. More free time to enjoy being close to nature later.
D. Permanent memories that filled an empty space inside.
【答案】25. A 26. C 27. B 28. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了作者拥有自己菜园的经历,包括第一年菜园带来的愉悦、第二年因虫害放弃,以及这段经历对作者感悟生活的影响。
【25题详解】
第二段指出“It was my first and also my last because I couldn’t go to the countryside often enough to keep my eyes on it”,这直接说明作者没有足够的时间和精力去照料菜园,所以停止种植。
【26题详解】
第三段中指出“fresh air on my face, quiet all around me”体现享受安静和新鲜空气;“eating them just like that. They were so delicious”表明吃新鲜烹饪的蔬菜;“Soon a small group of cows walked over and put their big heads over the fence (栅栏), looking at me gently”说明有意外出现的动物访客,而文中未提及卖蔬菜赚钱。
【27题详解】
第五段开头,前文提到作者曾因生活选择而感到失落,觉得充分享受生活就意味着失去。后文说这些记忆是作者永恒的一部分,且慢慢接受了不能让所有喜爱的事物都永恒的事实。所以“However, nothing was lost.” (然而,什么也没有失去) 放在此处最合适,起到转折并引出后文感悟的作用。
【28题详解】
最后一段指出“Then I understood that summer with my fresh vegetables, the hours I spent sitting on the ground, and the unexpected love from the cows—all these filled an empty place in my heart. And it has never been empty since.”说明那个夏天的经历给作者带来了填满内心空缺的永恒记忆。
C
Recently, a dialect phrase “Ai Ni Lao Ji, Ming Tian Jian” (meaning “Love Yourself, See You Tomorrow”) has become a hit on short-video platforms. It even turned into a warm secret code among young people. Coming from an ordinary life moment, this simple sentence shows much about young people’s attitude towards life today.
The story behind it is simple: a video blogger wanted to eat a grapefruit but felt lazy to peel it. Finally, he did it himself and said this sentence to himself like talking to an old friend. Though it seems small and casual, the phrase exactly catches young people’s common mood — learning to care for themselves and build inner order when life is tiring. It turns the idea of “loving oneself” into real-life practice. More importantly, the phrase carries a value shift. It is not just words but an active supply (供应) of inner energy, marking young people’s important growth: their romance (浪漫) is moving from one-way expectation to get others’ love to practicing two-way self-satisfaction. They used to wait for care from family or friends but now they realize self-care is also a kind of romance.
Some people may think that focusing on self-care will make young people become unsociable. However, this is not true at all. A person who knows how to properly care for himself and calm his emotions can better care for others and connect with the world. Just like a cup that is full of water can pour water for others, a person with enough inner energy can bring warmth to those around him.
In short, the popularity of “Love Yourself, See You Tomorrow” is no accident. It reflects (反映) young people’s positive pursuit of a better life. This warm phrase reminds us: don’t forget to love ourselves in busy life. Only by taking good care of ourselves can we face life bravely and live meaningfully.
29. Why does “Ai Ni Lao Ji, Ming Tian Jian” become a popular term?
A. It’s easier to remember and say than other phrases.
B. The blogger is very famous and has plenty of fans.
C. It was widely shared by many short-video platforms.
D. Many young people feel connected with the phrase.
30. Why does the author mention the video blogger’s story?
A. To show how lazy the blogger is.
B. To explain its origin and meaning.
C. To tell readers how to peel a grapefruit.
D. To prove that bloggers are influential.
31. What does the phrase “value shift” in Paragraph 3 mainly mean?
A. Young people no longer need love or care from others.
B. Young people care more about family than friends now.
C. Young people prefer to stay alone rather than make friends.
D. Young people start to value self-care as a kind of romance.
32. Which of the following statements is right?
A. Self-care may make young people become unsociable.
B. Young people still only expect love from others now.
C. People who understand self-care well can better care for others.
D. The phrase reflects young people’s negative attitude towards life.
33. What is the author’s attitude towards the phrase “Ai Ni Lao Ji, Ming Tian Jian”?
A. Worried. B. Unsure. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
【答案】29. D 30. B 31. D 32. C 33. C

In recent years, news about sudden cardiac (心源性的) death has become more common. Young people, even teenagers, are sometimes the victims (受害者). This has made many people worry: What causes it, and more importantly, how can we protect ourselves?
Sudden cardiac death happens when the heart suddenly stops working. It often comes without warning. Studies show that there are several reasons behind it. Too much stress and lack (缺少) of sleep can make the heart weak. Besides, most young people today are fond of eating too much fast food or sugary drinks, but unhealthy eating habits can harm the heart over time. Many people think that exercising more can keep their hearts healthy, but exercising too hard without enough rest is not the case. Doing too much hard exercise without enough rest can also be dangerous.
What can we do to prevent it? We should try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Most importantly, don’t push yourself too hard. Regular exercise is good for the heart, but if you feel very tired or uncomfortable, stop and rest. A healthy life and wise exercise can keep us away from sudden cardiac death.
Some schools have started to take action. They put AEDs (自动体外除颤器) in the school, which can save a person’s life if the heart stops. They teach students how to do CPR (心肺复苏). This reminds us that learning some helpful first aid skills can make a big difference in an emergency. It can also help us take action in time before the sudden cardiac death totally happens.

As a child, I was afraid of the dark, as so many children are. Not the dark itself, but what I was sure it had: bad spirits, bad people, and anything bad. I tried different ways to keep dark away. I kept myself inside the light on winter afternoons, thinking of light as magic protection. I went to bed with the hall light on and the door slightly open.
Later on, I borrowed Jill Tomlinson’s book The Owl (猫头鹰) Who Was Afraid of the Dark from the library and fell in love with the baby owl, Plop, who learns through others that dark can be exciting, kind, fun, necessary, beautiful and super. At the same time, I read and reread Phyllis Arkle’s Magic at Midnight. In this book, all the animals that are shown on the signs of a village’s stores climb down at midnight. One of the signs is an owl, and this book has a beautiful watercolor owl on the cover.
These stories described night as a magical space where good things could happen. I began to see the possibilities of the dark, but I still preferred to meet it with a safety cordon (防护线) of light.
All this changed for me when I moved to the countryside in east London, at 26. There I lived together with real dark for the first time in my life. I learned the wonder of a starry sky. On cool evenings when the stars seemed close enough to touch, I would dress myself in a warm coat and lie in a quiet yard and stretch (伸展) out into the sky, to the calling of owls from the woods. I have learned, since then, to totally love the dark and everything that lives in it.

It is dark. Holmes, Lestrade and I move towards the house. “Let’s wait here,”Holmes says.“We can hide behind these rocks. Watson, go to the house and see what they are doing. Make sure they don’t see you.” I hide behind a wall. I can see Mr. Stapleton and Sir Henry sitting at a table.

Ⅴ.任务型阅读。(58-59小题,每小题2分;60-61小题,每小题3分,共10分)
