As a middle-aged man, I was always worried about my weight. Every time I walked on the street, I would see
fear on others' faces as if I were a giant.
“Walking a dog will help you,” suggested Doctor May.
“Walk a dog? I've never had a dog,” I said.
“I have a perfect dog for you!” said Doctor May and she showed me a large black-and-white dog with a big round body. He looked up at me and then dropped his head with a clear look of aversion. He didn't seem to like me. Neither did I.
“He is Peety. As no one cares for him, he's too heavy now and needs exercise,” said Doctor May, looking at the poor dog.
The next day, we started our first walk. Although Peety didn't walk very fast, I was tired out. You could clearly hear my footsteps on the road-thump, thump, like the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk.
“I can't go on!” I shouted to him, lying on the ground. Peety ran back and looked at me quietly.
“Oh, Peety,” I said. “Do you really want a walk with a giant like me?” He kept looking at me with those beautiful dark eyes and waited in silence. I knew I wouldn't make him upset.
Over the next weeks, we kept on walking. There were times when I couldn't catch up with him. He would just look up at me like I was the greatest man in the world-and that's what I wanted to be for him.

Do you argue with your parents about making your bed or cleaning your room? Are your parents angry because you use the internet or play with your friend outside all the time? Even if your parents love you, you may fight with them at times. If your answers are yes, then our new Family App can help you a lot.
With the Family App, students and parents look at family arguments from both sides and solve their problems together. Usually, kids who fight with their parents learn to get along with them in the end. The app gives you advice and help you get on well with your parents. It also helps your parents to understand you better.
How does it work? You read different kinds of problems and then choose an answer from different options(选项). The app tells you why the answer is the best and why the other options aren't so good. For example, you're preparing to go out with your friends, but your parents want you to visit your grandparents. Do you say “We always go there on the weekend. I'm going to play with my friends outside today.” or “OK! We can go there today, but I'd like to play with my friends outside tomorrow.”? The first option doesn't make you or your parents feel good, but the second option makes everyone happy.
The Family App is very useful. It can help you live an easy life. Do you want to have one?

▲Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with a friend, you might write down all the things you could do-write a note to him or her, invite him or her to a basketball game, say sorry to him or her, etc. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose the one that gets your friend back.

五、任务型阅读
Are you living a happy life? Do you want to be a happy person? In fact, as a happy woman, I think it's easy to be a happy person. Here are three little things you can do:
Let go of bad feelings
When we don't do something successfully, we can get bad feelings very easily. And these bad feelings can stay and make us feel very sad. At times like that, don't stay in them for too long, because sometimes a happy life means letting bad feelings go. Let them go and look for the good things in life.
Learn from mistakes
When we do something wrong, it's easy for us to get angry. Everyone makes mistakes, so don't be angry! Just think about what we can learn from them. Learning from mistakes can help us to be happier and better!
Be thankful
Being a happy person usually means having a thankful heart. We should say “thank you” to the things and people around us. When someone gives us a real smile, we say “thank you”; when our mother makes us a nice dinner, we say “thank you”... It is also important for us to stop to enjoy the little things in life from time to time. Just be thankful and happiness will come!
41. What does the writer think of being a happy person?

Don't Worry. Be Happy!
Good morning, everyone! Today, my topic is “Don't Worry. Be Happy!”. I'd like to share one of my experiences.
Last term, I prepared for a speech competition for weeks, but I forgot my lines halfway and finished my speech in a hurry. I felt so upset that I even avoided talking about the competition after that. My mum noticed my sadness and said, “Mistakes are chances for us to grow.” Her words cheered me up. I started practising again. I recorded myself to check my progress and asked my teacher for tips. A month later, I gave a speech in our class and did well.
This experience taught me that with a positive mind and regular action, we can turn worries into wins. Let's choose to stay happy and keep going!
That's all. Thank you!
