China’s Pristine Paradises: National Parks and Nature Reserves
China boasts amazing biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes, with a network of protected areas safeguarding its natural heritage. Among these, four sites stand out for ecological significance and scenery, serving as wildlife reserves and symbols of China’s conservation commitment.
● Jiuzhaigou National Park, in Sichuan’s Minshan Mountains, is famous for crystal-clear alpine lakes and vibrant autumn foliage. Its sky-blued lakes, fed by glaciers and springs, reflect snow-capped peaks. A 1992 UNESCO World Heritage Site, it habitats giant pandas, supporting over 2,000 plant and 400 animal species. In 2017, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake damaged its landscapes, but careful restoration revived most of its original charm.
● Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve, on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is called the “Water Tower of Asia”. As the source of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang (Mekong) rivers, it supplies water to nearly half of China’s population and millions in Southeast Asia. Spanning 318,000 square kilometers, it homes Tibetan antelopes. Climate change causes glacial retreat, leading to adaptive measures like grassland enclosures.
● Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, on Hainan Island, is China’s only tropical rainforest protected area. Covering 4,400 square kilometers, it has over 5,000 plant species (15% native) and 340 bird species, including the critically endangered Hainan gibbon (长臂猿) (around 37 left). The rainforest resists typhoons, regulating the island’s climate. Recent years have seen community-involved conservation, with locals shifting from logging to eco-tourism for income and less ecosystem impact.
● Wuyi Mountain National Park, across Fujian and Jiangxi, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for both natural and cultural value. Its steep (崎岖的) Danxia landforms (red sandstone peaks) pair with thick forests housing Chinese giant salamanders (火蜥蜴). It also has ancient tea plantations and Han Dynasty archaeological sites. A visitor quota system limits daily entries to balance conservation and tourism.
These four areas show China’s holistic (整体的) conservation approach — combining strict protection, sustainable development and public education. As China expands its national park system, they remain beacons of human-nature harmony.
1. Which of the following is a challenge that Jiuzhaigou National Park has overcome?
A. A decline in the number of giant pandas.
B. Overcrowding from excessive tourism.
C. Severe damage caused by an earthquake.
D. Pollution of its crystal-clear alpine lakes.
2. What makes Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve crucial to millions of people?
A. Its unique grasslands and wetlands.
B. Its function as the source of three major rivers.
C. Its role as a habitat for the Tibetan antelope.
D. Its strict measures against climate change.
3. What do the last two national parks have in common?
A. Both are home to the world’s rarest primates (灵长目动物).
B. Both have carried out visitor quota systems.
C. Both are located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
D. Both combine natural value with cultural significance.
【答案】1. C 2. B 3. D

For former Chinese women’s soccer player Zhao Lina, her story began not under stadium lights but in the dusty schoolyard of Jinshajiang Road Primary School in Shanghai’s Putuo district.
Now 33, she still remembers joining the school soccer team in first grade — the tallest among all her teammates. The coach lined everyone up by height, and Zhao stood at the end of the line. Impressed by her height, the coach decided she should be a goalkeeper. But she never imagined one day she would step onto the international stage.
In the beginning, her only fan was her father. A decade later, she stood on the world stage at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, wearing the red jersey of China. She then felt the pure joy of playing, with the thunderous cheers from the packed stadium forever unforgettable.
One of her most unforgettable matches came in 2022, when China made a stunning 3-2 comeback against South Korea to reclaim the AFC Women’s Asian Cup after 16 years. It was the perfect high point and a year later, Zhao announced her retirement, closing an 18-year career.
After retiring from Team China in 2023, former goalkeeper Zhao Lina never truly walked away from the soccer pitch. Instead, she found a new mission — bringing soccer to children in China’s rural areas. Through her soccer charity program, Zhao plans to visit 100 remote schools, build pitches, donate equipment, organize leagues and train local physical education teachers to coach. In the 10 months since her retirement, she has already helped build four soccer fields and deliver equipment to 40 schools.
Alongside her charity work, Zhao has also stepped into journalism. She served as a reporter for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
“Life isn’t a straight line,” she reflects. “Even athletes have peaks and declines. But when the next rise comes — if you’ve prepared enough and give your all — you’ll surpass your last peak. That’s what life and soccer have taught me.”
4. How was Zhao Lina first chosen to be a goalkeeper?
A. She was recognized for her natural talent.
B. She was encouraged by her father.
C. She was drawn to the position herself.
D. She was selected because of her height.
5. What do the underlined words “stepped into” mean in paragraph 6?
A. Wandered. B. Joined.
C. Approached. D. Sampled.
6. How is the passage mainly organized?
A. By comparing her early and later life.
B. By listing challenges from her career.
C. By following the order of time in her life.
D. By discussing her charity then sports work.
7. Which saying best describes Zhao Lina’s story?
A. Every ending leads to a new beginning.
B. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
C. Time and tide wait for no man.
D. Success is built upon repeated small efforts.
【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. A

Increasing evidence suggests that sitting down too much can put our health at risk. According to the NHS, being inactive is linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, some forms of cancer, and early death. Therefore, the NHS advises people to “move more, sit less”. But how often and for how long should we get up and move?
Now, researchers based at Columbia University, New York, have an answer: taking a five-minute walking break every half an hour can offset some of the harmful effects of sitting for long periods. The team had a group of 11 participants sit in ergonomic chairs for an eight-hour stretch, getting up only for bathroom breaks or their scheduled walk on a treadmill. The exercise periods tested were one minute of walking after every 30 minutes of sitting, one minute every 60 minutes, five minutes every 30 minutes, five minutes every 60 minutes, and no walking at all.
While sitting, the participants could use their phones or laptops, or read, and were given regular meals. Their blood pressure and blood sugar were checked regularly throughout the study.
The researchers found that any amount of walking reduced blood pressure by 4-5mmHg compared to sitting all day — a significant reduction, as ideal blood pressure is usually considered to be between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg.
Additionally, walking for five minutes every 30 minutes reduced blood sugar spikes (猛增) after meals by more than 50 percent. Walking for one minute every 30 minutes also led to a small reduction in blood sugar spikes. Walking every 60 minutes, whether for one minute or five, had no effect.
“What we know now is that for optimal health, you need to move regularly at work, in addition to a daily exercise routine,” said Diaz. “While that may sound impractical, our findings show that even small amounts of walking spread through the workday can significantly lower your risk of heart disease and other chronic illnesses.”
8. Why is the NHS mentioned in the text?
A. To suggest disease prevention methods.
B. To stress the seriousness of inactivity.
C. To compare international health data.
D. To explain its own research findings.
9. What were the participants required to do during the study?
A. Stand up according to a fixed schedule.
B. Take breaks freely when needed.
C. Keep moving slowly while sitting.
D. Avoid using phones or computers.
10. Which walking pattern best controlled blood sugar after meals?
A. Walking for one minute every 60 minutes.
B. Walking for five minutes every 60 minutes.
C. Walking for one minute every 30 minutes.
D. Walking for five minutes every 30 minutes.
11. What does Diaz’s statement imply?
A. Long workouts prevent chronic diseases.
B. Daily exercise forms the basis of good health.
C. Movement during work is vital for health.
D. Prolonged sitting is unavoidably harmful.
【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. C

If you’ve ever picked up plastic while cleaning a beach, you may have held more than waste in your hands. A new study shows microplastics — small plastic pieces under 5 mm — are quickly covered by harmful bacteria. This turns small plastic pieces, wrappers and bottles on the beach into vehicles for carrying diseases.
Microplastics now cover every part of the earth. They are in plastic products and in the air we breathe. More than 125 trillion pieces float in the ocean, and more are found in rivers, soils, animals, and even the human body. But scientists claim that the danger is not just the plastic itself: it’s the Plastisphere — the thin layer of bacteria that grow on each small piece.
A team led by Dr. Emily Stevenson from Plymouth Marine Laboratory & University of Exeter published a new study. They found microplastics in real natural environments — from hospital wastewater to coastal waters — carry bacteria during their whole journey.
To verify their theory, they carried out an experiment and tested five materials: bio-beads, nurdles, polystyrene, wood, and glass. They placed them along a river flowing from highly polluted areas to the sea. After two months, gene tests showed: All plastics, in all places, had pathogens and drug-resistant (耐药的) bacteria. Each microplastic can work as a small, moving dish for growing germs (细菌). It carried super-bacteria from hospital wastewater to beaches, swimming areas and shellfish-growing sites.
“This study shows the risk of disease and drug-resistant germs from microplastics in our oceans and coasts,” said Dr. Stevenson. “We strongly advise volunteers to wear gloves during beach cleanups and wash hands later.”
As microplastics continue to increase around the world, researchers warn that the Plastisphere could make the spread of super-bacteria worse. The study calls for better waste management, closer watch on microplastic paths, quick cuts in plastic waste and unified plans across wastewater, healthcare, and ocean policy.
12. What is a feature of microplastics?
A. They build up in a specific area.
B. They are invisible and hard to break down.
C. They vary in size ranging from 5 mm upwards.
D. They present a greater threat than previously thought.
13. What does the underlined word “verify” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Promote. B. Release. C. Propose. D. Prove.
14. What is a finding of the experiment?
A. Different bacteria react to plastics differently.
B. Super-bacteria display a strong preference for glass.
C. Certain germs make microplastics their living ground.
D. Drug-resistant bacteria mainly collect in polluted rivers.
15. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. The solution lies in reducing plastic use.
B. People should avoid touching microplastics directly.
C. Super-bacteria will be more common in the near future.
D. Volunteers should arrange their beach cleanups regularly.
【答案】12. D 13. D 14. C 15. B

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One afternoon, on our way home from school, Emma and I were chatting about the events of our day. Emma, with her curious eyes shining, asked me about my friendship with Lucy. Without a moment’s hesitation, I said, “I only hung out with Lucy because she wanted me to, but I didn’t really want to be friends with her. She was kind of boring.”
Unluckily, I didn’t know Lucy was nearby. When I looked up, she was right there, having heard everything. Her face turned pale, and her eyes got big with surprise. She didn’t say anything and ran off. Emma and I just stood there, feeling bad. I knew I should go after Lucy and say sorry, but I was too shocked to move. Emma’s face turned red too. We walked home without talking, and it felt like our steps were getting heavier.
The next days were hard. I felt really bad about what I said and wanted to fix things with Lucy. I needed to say sorry. But what should I say? Even though I didn’t mean to, I hurt Lucy’s feelings. Every time I saw her at school, I looked away quickly.
Then, something interesting happened in our speaking class. On Tuesday, Ms. Julia said we would do pre-class speeches. She had written our topics on small pieces of paper and put them in a box. We had to pick one without knowing what it was. I was a bit nervous. When I reached into the box, I pulled out a paper that said, “Tell your most embarrassing moment.” My heart was beating fast. It felt like I was given a chance to make things right.
I spent the next few days practicing my speech, trying to find the right words to apologize to Lucy. I wanted to be sincere and show her I was sorry. When the day of the speech came, I was still nervous, but I knew it was important to face my mistake.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

That day marked a turning point.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I stood in front of the class, took a deep breath, and began to share my story. At first, my palms were sweaty and my voice trembled. “My most embarrassing and regretful moment was when I betrayed my friend Lucy’s trust. In a moment of thoughtlessness, I said cruel words about her. I was wrong, and I’ve been haunted by my actions ever since. Lucy, you are an amazing friend, full of warmth and kindness. I am truly sorry for the pain I caused you.” As I spoke, I secretly looked at Lucy a few times. Her eyes were shiny and she was biting her lip.
That day marked a turning point. After my speech, Lucy walked up to me with a soft smile. “Your apology means a lot,” she said. “I know you didn’t mean those words.” From that day on, we became inseparable. We laughed together, cried together, and built a friendship that was stronger than ever. This experience made me realize that real friends are forgiving, and every relationship is worth fighting for.

C

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
