A new wave is shocking TikTok. In many videos, young people are holding cups of hot water and eating warm bowls of porridge. What’s going on? They are following a new trend (趋势) called “Turning Chinese”.
This lifestyle is inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Chinese people are quite familiar with it. But for many people in the West, these habits are brand new! Young people all over the world are now falling in love with these simple but healthy habits.
To “turn Chinese”, most importantly, say goodbye to ice! In the West, ice is king. But in China, hot water is like a magic cure for many things. Instead of ice-cold drinks, people drink warm water with honey, since it is much better for their stomachs. For breakfast, they also choose warm foods like vegetable soup or a cup of hot tea over cold yogurt.
Traditional Chinese Medicine cares about the balance of yin and yang in people’s bodies. And in Chinese culture, yin has to do with coldness and yang means staying warm. If your body takes in too much cold, you might get sick, while drinking hot water helps us keep the cold away and helps your body stay healthy and safe.
History is another reason. People from the south of China first began to drink boiled water. At first, they did it to kill the insects in the water they got from rivers. In the 1860s, a serious illness called cholera (霍乱) killed a lot of people. But compared with the other parts of China, fewer people in the south got sick. _________ As a result, the government encouraged people to drink hot water as a healthy habit.
TikTok creator Emma Peng from China is excited to see this. “We’re helping people from all over the world live better. The trend is not just about food. It is about love and respect.” says Peng. Instead of just copying, Westerners are asking questions like, “When is the best time to do this?” They want to learn the true meaning behind the habits. On Chinese social media, many people are also happy with this trend. They see it as a bridge between different cultures. It turns out that the lifestyle from the East is exactly what the busy world needs.

A.Luckily, people dealt with the illness quickly and efficiently.
B.Doctors soon found that drinking boiled water saved their lives.
C.That was because the weather in the south was much warmer.
D.Many doctors at that time tried their best to save people’s lives.
21.According to Peng’s words, what does she think of the “Turning Chinese” trend?
A.Proud. B.Worried. C.Thankful. D.Shocked.
22.Which of the following should be put into the structure of the passage?

There was once a king named Dionysius I. He was so cruel that he won for himself the name of tyrant (暴君). He knew that almost everybody hated him, so he was always afraid that someone should take his life.

“ ▲ ” advised the tyrant.
Damocles accepted happily. The next day, Damocles was led into the palace, and all the servants treated him as their master. He sat down at a table, and rich foods were placed before him. He felt that he was the happiest man in the world.
As he rested in a soft seat, he raised his eyes to the top of the room and happened to see a sharp sword (剑) right above his head. And it was only held up by a single horse-hair. What if the hair should break? There was danger every moment that it would do so.
The smile on the face of Damocles disappeared. His face became pale. His hands trembled (颤抖). He wanted no more food, and he could drink no more wine. He wanted to run out of the palace, and away.
“What’s the matter?” said the tyrant.
“That sword!” cried Damocles. He was so scared that he couldn’t move.
“Yes,” said Dionysius I. “I know it. But why should that trouble you? I have a sword over my head all the time. Every moment I’m in fear of losing my life.”
“Let me go,”said Damocles. “I now see that I was mistaken, and that the rich and powerful are not so happy as they seem. Let me go back to my old, poor and little house.”
And so long as he lived, he never again wanted to be rich, or change places, even for a moment, with the king.
23.What can be put in “ ▲ ”?

The 2025 Beijing Yizhuang Half Marathon and the world’s first human-robot half marathon happened on April 19 in Beijing. The event had 21 teams of human-shaped robots, including famous companies like Yushu Technology and UBTECH. This new competition got a lot of attention because it brought advanced (先进的) technology and sports together.
The best part of the event was the “TianGong Ultra”, which finished the race in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds, winning first place. TianGong Ultra is about 1.8 meters tall and weighs 55 kilograms. This year, its speed went from 6 km/h to a top speed of 12 km/h, because of a smart platform (平台) called “Hui Si Kai Wu.” This smart platform lets the robot do many tasks more cleverly and quickly.
To get ready for the marathon, the team solved problems like staying steady (平稳), being light, and controlling heat during long runs. They also made the robot’s movement control better to improve how it moves and gets used to different roads. During the race, TianGong Ultra kept a speed of 7 to 8 km/h, showing its great ability to keep going.
The half marathon course needed the robots to make about 250,000 joint movements, testing their balance (平衡), heat control, and energy use. This race not only tested the robots but also helped developers find things to make better. The competition wanted to show the robots’ abilities and encourage more new ideas in robot technology.
Xiong Youjun, the head of the Beijing Human-like Robot Innovation Center, talked about the importance of this competition for testing the robot’s skills in real situations. It helps make a way for future uses in factories and daily life. He thinks this event is a big step for how humans and robots interact (交互), showing how robots can live and work with humans.
In a word, this event was a big step forward in the development of human-shaped robots and what they can do for human’s life. This marathon is just the start of a new time in robotics, where humans and robots work together for a better future. The event has made people excited and curious about what the future of robots will bring.
27.Why did the organizers hold a robot marathon instead of a simple lab test?
A.To make robots famous. B.To copy human running styles.
C.Test robots in real situations. D.To save money on labs.

19.What is the new wave on TikTok about?
A.Living a peaceful life. B.Enjoying ice-cold food.

20.Which of the following sentences can be put in the “________”?
A.Luckily, people dealt with the illness quickly and efficiently.
B.Doctors soon found that drinking boiled water saved their lives.
C.That was because the weather in the south was much warmer.
D.Many doctors at that time tried their best to save people’s lives.
21.According to Peng’s words, what does she think of the “Turning Chinese” trend?
A.Proud. B.Worried. C.Thankful. D.Shocked.
22.Which of the following should be put into the structure of the passage?
A.①—Why is it popular; ②—keep away from illnesses; ③—How can people improve it?
B.①—What is happening; ②—find a cure for an illness; ③—How can people improve it?
C.①—Why is it popular; ②—find a cure for an illness; ③—What do people think about it?
