In my first year of art teaching, I followed the teaching plan strictly and began with still lives. Gradually, my students had a good grasp of techniques — shading, perspective and composition. Yet their works of fruits and vases, though accurate, felt empty.
It was in their draft paper on the desk, however, that I first saw the vitality of their emotions and creativity, something I had rarely seen in their formal assignments.
Determined to turn the tables, I designed a new unit titled “Art with a Voice”. I began by asking students to select an emotion card — loneliness, joy, longing — and sketch (素描) freely around it. Hesitation filled the room, pencils held still. I didn’t rush them. Instead, I shared stories of artists who channeled inner worlds into visual form and showed examples where personal memory met craft. Then, I introduced the core assignment: “Create a piece about a memory that shaped you. The emotion must be real.” In the next week, we were buried in developing sketches, experimenting with materials, and talking about what makes a feeling visible.
On exhibition day, I witnessed a quiet transformation. A student working with the theme of “childhood” presented a set of sketches. They focused on a worn tin train from his early years, using our practiced light and shadow to trace its shape and wear. Another student focused on a scarf given by a classmate. She used fine shifts in value and precise line work to depict the fabric and the faded pattern along its edge. The simplicity of the composition spoke softly, yet deeply, of connection and belonging.
Standing before their work, I felt my own teaching shift beneath me. Art is not expressed through polished techniques and imitation, but through the rich expression of emotion. My role, I now see, is to ignite the spark that guides their hand from heart to paper.
4. What does the underlined phrase “turn the tables” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. To follow the plan. B. To rearrange the desks.
C. To switch the roles. D. To change the situation.
5. Why are the two students mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. To compare students’ skill levels. B. To explain the teacher’s requirements.

Tilapia (罗非鱼) skin is rich in collagen (胶原蛋白), a protein that helps build and repair tissues. Because of this, tilapia skin has become popular in medicine. Researchers have used it for various treatments, including helping burn victims and fixing problems related to the stomach and heart.
Inspired by colleagues in other medical fields, Mirza Melo, an eye doctor for animals in Brazil, decided to try using tilapia skin to treat eye problems in dogs. She focused on eye problems like corneal ulcers and perforations, which are common in dogs with short noses. “These dogs have eyes sticking out from their faces,” she says. “So they get injured often.”
Normally, doctors treat these eye injuries by placing a piece of horse placenta (胎盘) over the damaged area to help it recover. But in 2019, Melo tried using tilapia skin instead. She successfully treated a Shih Tzu (a species of dog) with a severe eye injury.
Brazil’s Burn Support Institute and the Federal University of Ceará, which started the Tilapia Skin Project to treat burns, supported her work. With their help, Melo developed a special membrane (膜) called the acellular dermal matrix (ADM), made from pure collagen taken from tilapia skin.
Collagen is known to help cells grow and repair tissues. Tilapia skin has a high and consistent quality of collagen throughout the fish’s life, while the quality of horse placental collagen can vary depending on the horse’s age and weight.
So far, Melo has treated over 400 dogs using tilapia skin. The dogs showed no pain or infection after surgery and healed quickly with minimal scarring. Melo is now planning to use this technique on cats and is even discussing how to adapt it for treating human eyes, which are very sensitive and difficult to treat.
8. Why is Tilapia popular in medicine?
A. For its eyes. B. For its skin. C. For its blood. D. For its oil.
9. What makes the dogs with short noses frequently get injured?
A. Their eyes’ position. B. Their playful nature.
C. Their active movement. D. Their hair’s length.
10. What can we infer about horse placental collagen?
A. It is only related to horses’ weight.
B. It is easier to obtain than tilapia collagen.
C. It is not affected by horses’ type and weight.
D. It is not always available at any stage of horses’ growth.
11. What does the author intend to convey in the last paragraph?
A. Melo’s concern for tilapia
B. Melo’s confidence in teaching.
C. The characteristic of tilapia’s collagen.
D. The application of tilapia’s collagen.
【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. D

What if the solution to the climate crisis lay not underground, but in the air around us? Inspired by natural photosynthesis (光合作用), researchers from Cambridge University have developed a solar-powered direct air capture (DAC) reactor, offering a promising alternative to traditional carbon capture technologies.
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been claimed as a possible solution to the climate crisis, and has recently received £22 billion in funding from the UK government. However, CCS is energy-intensive and raises long-term safety concerns over underground pressured CO₂ storage, and even provides an excuse for continued fossil fuel use. As a non-circular process, CCS stores CO₂ indefinitely without any practical value, according to Professor Erwin Reisner, who led the research on the new DAC reactor.
Unlike most carbon capture technologies, the DAC reactor does not require fossil-fuel-based power. It takes CO₂ directly from the air and transforms it into syngas: a kind of key material in the production of many chemicals and medicines. The researchers say their approach, which does not require any transportation or storage, is much easier to scale up than earlier solar-powered devices to achieve widespread commercial production.
The DAC reactor, a solar-powered flow device, uses specialised equipment to grab CO₂ from the air at night, like how a sponge takes in water. When the sun comes out, the sunlight heats up the captured CO₂, absorbing infrared radiation (红外线), and a semiconductor powder absorbs the ultraviolet radiation (紫外线) to start a chemical reaction that turns the captured CO₂ into solar syngas. A mirror on the reactor concentrates the sunlight, making the transforming process more efficient.
Currently, the research group is working on transforming the solar syngas into liquid fuel, a development that, if successful, could provide a sustainable alternative to supply energy for cars, planes, and more. The team is also hopeful that their solar reactor could also generate fuel in remote locations. “Instead of continuing to dig up and burn fossil fuels to produce the products we have come to rely on, we can get all the CO₂ we need directly from the air and reuse it.” said Reisner.
12. Why is CCS technology mentioned in the text?
A. To Introduce CCS’s application. B. To highlight DAC’s advantages.
C. To criticize the financial support. D. To explain CCS’s working principle.
13. Which of the following is DAC’s feature?
A. Requiring fossil-fuel power. B. Producing chemicals at night.
C. Enabling convenient expansion. D. Using mirrors to help capture CO₂.
14. What would the DAC technology be applied to?
A. Generating solid fuel. B. Supplying energy for vehicles.
C. Producing solar power. D. Developing radiation treatment.
15. Which is the best title for the text?
A. A Better Way to Capture Carbon B. Storing Carbon as an Alternative
C. Turning Air into Fuel with Sunshine D. The Magic of Solar-Powered Reactions
【答案】12. B 13. C 14. B 15. C

How to Develop an Effective Morning Reading Habit
Morning reading is a precious routine for language learning and mental enrichment. It takes advantage of the fresh state of the brain after a good rest, making it easier to memorize information and understand deep content. However, many people struggle to stick to it or find their reading time inefficient.____16____Here are practical tips to build a morning reading habit that works for you.
____17____ The key to a sustainable morning reading habit is to start small. If you force yourself to read for an hour on the first day, you’re likely to feel burnt out quickly. Instead, set a realistic goal, like 15 or 20 minutes a day. This low threshold makes it easy to get started, and as the habit forms, you can gradually extend the time. Consistency is far more important than the length of each reading session.
It’s also vital to choose the right reading materials.____18____ If you’re learning English, pick articles or novels that match your level — not too easy that you gain nothing, nor too hard that you lose motivation. For personal growth, select books that align with your interests or goals. When the content appeals to you, morning reading will feel like a pleasure rather than a chore.
Create a dedicated reading space to get in the mood.____19____ It could be a cozy chair by the window, a desk in your study, or even a corner of the living room. Keep this space clean and free of distractions like phones or tablets. Having a fixed spot helps your brain associate the area with reading, making it easier to focus as soon as you sit down.
Don’t just read passively — interact with the content. Write down key sentences, underline unfamiliar words, or jot down your thoughts in the margin.____20____ This active reading method not only helps you remember what you read but also deepens your understanding. You’ll find that your morning reading becomes more meaningful when you don’t just “scan” words but truly engage with them.
Building a morning reading habit is not about being perfect, but about being persistent. It may take a few weeks for the routine to stick, but once it does, you’ll reap the benefits of a sharper mind, richer knowledge, and a peaceful start to your day.
A. Start with a small daily goal.
B. Reading in the morning is a common habit for students.
C. The problem often lies in the way they approach it.
D. Avoid reading materials that are far beyond your ability.
E. A messy environment will only make your mind unfocused.
F. Passive reading is a waste of time and energy for most people.
G. You can also recite beautiful paragraphs aloud to boost memory.
【答案】16. C 17. A 18. D 19. E 20. G

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Grandma’s old wooden mailbox, with a chipped blue coat (涂料层) and a slightly rusted hinge (铰链), had stood at the quiet corner of the community for 20 years. It was not just a simple mailbox, but a warm bond with the nearby three families. Every early morning, when the first ray of sunlight spilled over the roof, Grandma would put on her shoes, hold a small bamboo basket, and walk slowly to the corner with her slightly bent back.
She would carefully collect her own letters and the daily newspapers for the elderly neighbors next door — Mr. Smith who suffered from leg pain and Ms. Brown who lived alone, both of whom could barely walk downstairs. Those newspapers were their main way to learn about the outside world, and Grandma’s small act of kindness had quietly lasted for years, warming the whole neighborhood.
On a holiday afternoon, Tom, a college student majoring in architecture, came to visit Grandma as usual. When he turned the corner, he was shocked to find the mailbox lying on the ground, its wooden body split into several pieces. He glanced around instinctively and saw a man walking a large dog in the distance. There was a crumpled note stuck on the wall beside it, which read, “Sorry, my dog knocked your mailbox over accidentally. I’ll come to fix it later.”
Seeing the broken mailbox and scattered wood pieces, Grandma sighed softly, her eyes filled with worry. She squatted down gently, stroked the worn wood with her rough hands, and murmured in a low voice, “What shall I do now?” Tom knew the elderly neighbors were heavily dependent on the newspapers. Without the mailbox, how could they get the news on time? What if the dog owner broke his promise and couldn’t fix the mailbox today? Watching Grandma’s helpless expression, he felt a strong desire in his heart.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右:
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
Considering the mailbox too old, Tom decided to build a new one.

Paragraph 2:
When all the preparations were done, the dog owner arrived.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Considering the mailbox too old, Tom decided to build a new one. He squatted down to comfort Grandma, saying he would make a new and stronger one to let the neighbors get newspapers on time. Grandma nodded in relief, her worry fading a little as she patted Tom’s hand. Tom quickly sketched a design on paper, and then hurried to a nearby hardware store to buy materials. After he returned, he laid out all materials neatly, measured and marked the boards precisely with a ruler, and got ready to craft the new mailbox.
When all the preparations were done, the dog owner arrived. Looking guilty with a toolbox, he apologized sincerely, and explained his dog got excited when chasing a cat and knocked over the mailbox and that he’d been rushing over after handling his work to make up for it. Seeing Tom’s prepared materials and the sketch, he offered to help immediately. With Tom’s professional guidance on structure and his handy work with tools, they worked together smoothly to assemble, paint and install the mailbox. Grandma, Mr. Smith and Ms. Brown watched quietly, their faces full of joy and relief. Looking at the sturdy new blue mailbox, Tom realized architecture was not just about designing objects, but about using his skills to safeguard small kindnesses and build a more harmonious community.

A. Art speaks from within. B. Art requires experiences.
C. Art mirrors life’s changes. D. Art improves with practice.

第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
When I arrived in China to teach law, I didn’t expect ____36____ (come) home with so much tea. Nor did I expect what the tea would come to mean.
The meaning became ____37____ (vivid) clear to me in Chengdu. There, my students and I sat for tea in Daci Temple. They made it carefully, ____38____ (perform) each step from memory. When I asked why they washed the cups and poured away the ____39____ (one) cup of tea, they hesitated. It’s what their parents and grandparents do and they learned it ____40____ them, they said. The tradition was about continuity — repeating a gesture ____41____ countless hands had done before. A quiet ceremony of connection.
In moments like this, I saw something I rarely encounter in the US — a drink that commands respect for its meaning. In the West, tea ____42____ (see) as a functional drink — something to energize or calm. But in China, tea goes beyond this. It is relational. It is ceremonial. Even when shared casually between friends, it ____43____ (carry) an unspoken respect.
As China becomes more ____44____ (center) to global cultural conversations, its tea traditions deserve greater global attention. Not just as a drink, but as an expression of history, hospitality (好客), and human connection. When a student gives you tea from their home province, what they’re really giving you is ____45____ look at who they are, where they’re from, and how they stay connected to it.
