In 2023,Alex Mayer,a runner and college student, awoke confused and unable to move in a hospital

strength, she started to train even harder and set an ambitious goal to one day participate in the Boston
Marathon. When her physical therapy sessions ended, she pushed herself to go out on daily runs.

The soup of talent that covers the planet makes our world function beautifully. From athletes to
writers, and so many more, people make the world go around. However, many of us don't have jobs that
are aligned with(与…一致)our values and qualities..It's up to us to make changes, experimenting
until we find a role that makes us feel alive, discovering that job which makes us tap-dance out of bed to
work.To do that,it's worth asking ourselves periodically:How can I best serve human beings around the

world with my unique talents and strengths?
Most of us don't ask the question because we've been thinking that“work”is a burden(负担).Yes,
all work will be tiring and challenging at times, but beneath that,it can be enthralling if we do it right. It
can fill our lives with purpose, meaning, and joy,and for many it does.
Through our work,we are telling other people who we are.Finding work in which we can lose
ourselves is helpful,as we experience the sensation of being transported into a different reality.Something
removes the division between work and the rest of our lives, until we can no longer regard them as clearly
different.
I think this quote sums up this state perfectly:The master in the art of living makes little distinction
between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body ..He hardly knows which
is which. He simply pursues (his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide
whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.
To become a master in the art of living, and find our calling,we should start with growing our
compassion for the people that could benefit from our work. From that state, well create a healthier
perspective towards work, and increase the likelihood of satisfying our desires along the way.
1.What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A.Our work reflects who we are.
B.Our work exists to serve others.
C.It's beneficial to change work regularly.
D.It's necessary for a worker to get up early.
2.What does the underlined word "enthralling"in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Exactly identical.
B.Fairly beautiful.
C.Extremely interesting.
D.Highly ambitious.
3.What is the master in the art of living like?
A.He prefers a simple life.
B.He goes all out for everything.
C.He pursues perfection in daily life.
D.He balances work and life effectively.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.Choosing Your Life's Work
B.Is Work a Necessary Burden?
C.What Type of Work Would Suit You?
D.Challenging Yourself to Live the Life You Want

Robert Frost is one of the most known and loved American poets.Almost everyone has heard at least
one of his poems, maybe even three or four. You may wonder why people love his poems so much.If you
want to find out,keep reading.
Firstly,Frost balances the fine line between poetic rhythm and conversational rhythm.A poem written
with a regular form of poetic meter (sounds great, but may be hard to understand.Frost wrote with
excellent poetic rhythm, but at the same time made his poems sound like ordinary conversation.Frost's
poem titled A Patch of Old Snow is a good example of this.
Also,Frost is not afraid to add humor to his poetry.Of course,he always keeps his form which can
make him seem a bit traditional next to modern free verse (poets like Charles Bukowski or even
William Carlos Williams. The truth is,Frost covers many aspects of being human including fun.He even
makes himself the topic of the joke at times, like in his poem Dust of Snow.
He also shows us beauty.Experiencing beauty is something that makes us human. It's an important
part of human nature. It makes life better!Frost is great at sharing the beauty of the world around him with
us through his poetry.Birches is a popular Frost poem that really shows us the beauty that Frost sees in
birch trees.Even just the first few lines of the poem present us with amazing imagery.
Last but not least,he is full of wisdom.Knowing how to get through life, being able to accept
mystery, understanding the ways of the world,Frost is like a wise old man sharing his wisdom in a fun,
beautiful, and conversational way.In his poem A Time to Talk,Frost stresses the importance of taking a
break from the day's work to have a conversation with a friend.

If you are a fan of sustainable fashion and want your clothes to be environmentally friendly and
recyclable,a pair of shoes from Thousand Fell may be just what you are looking for.
Shoes are usually made of materials such as plastic and rubber that take a long time to biodegrade
物降解),with many of them thrown away and then ending up in the open ocean. As the shoes degrade,
they turn into microplastics that end up polluting the food chain and can be found even in the remotest
places on Earth.
Shoe companies do offer more sustainable shoes, but Thousand Fell offers these kinds of shoes
exclusively and more. The company offers a white shoe made entirely of natural materials.
Indeed, the company puts recyclability front and center."Your new day-in,day-out sneakers,"the
company says,"are designed with life in mind. They're comfortable and breathable too. When they're
done, just send them back to us for recycling.
The shoes perform as well as any other shoe, capable of enduring (10,000 steps a day for 240
days. And while they are priced a little higher than most, they are worth the cost considering what the
company is offering to the environment since the shoes can be sent back to the company where the materials
are broken down and reused.
"When the time comes, simply send your Thousand Fell sneakers back to us,and we'll make sure
that they don't end up in a landfill,"the company states."The team is going to be collecting the worn
sneakers and then physically separating the rubber outsoles ()from the food waste structural pieces
and the recycled water bottle upper. These materials will all be reused to make new sneakers. And even
if they are thrown away, they will leave very little waste behind as they degrade. It's the shoe of the future
that will hopefully inspire major shoe companies to adopt the same process.

A new AI model can flag female patients who are at higher risk of heart disease based on an
electrocardiogram(ECG),a heart test recording the electrical activity of the heart.
However, for decades, previous evidence has shown that men tend to be at higher risk of heart disease
due to differences in hormone profiles (and lifestyle factors, leading to the idea that women's
risk of cardiovascular disease(心血管疾病)is low.Nevertheless,a recent joint statement called
cardiovascular disease the "number one killer"of women, calling for better diagnosis and treatment for
women
To address this issue, researchers developed an AI model specifically designed to analyze the
differences between male and female ECG patterns. This model uses data from over one million ECGs of
180,000 patients,including 98,000 females.At its core,the model features an intelligent algorithm that
compares a patient's ECG with "typical"ECG patterns for males and females.If,for instance,a woman's
ECG closely matches the "typical male pattern",the system assigns a high-risk score.Research has shown
that these women face a 4.2 times higher risk of heart disease, heart failure, and heart attacks compared to
those with female-pattern ECGs.
Dr Fu Siong Ng,a consultant cardiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, claimed,"Many
of the women identified were at even higher risk than the 'average'man. If used widely, the AI model,
which provides deeper insights into female heart health, could assist doctors in identifying high-risk women
earlier, enabling better treatment and care and reduce gender differences in cardiac care over time.
"However, one test alone will not level the playing field-the AI model still needs testing in diverse
populations,"Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan,Clinical Director at the British Heart Foundation, added."And
while it's a tool,it's not a cure-all for all women's heart health.Ensuring every person gets the right heart
care they need will require a change in every part of our health care system."
1.What made women's heart disease overlooked?
A.Misconception of low risk in women.
B.Imperfections in health care systems.
C.Unclear symptoms in women.
D.Inadequate female ECG data.
2.How does the AI model identify high-risk female patients?
A.By analyzing 180,000 female patients'ECGs.
B.By matching ECGs to typical male patterns for risk.
C.By evaluating hormone profiles and lifestyles for scores.
D.By comparing ECGs to gender-specific patterns and scoring.
3.What does Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan suggest to improve heart care?
A.Relying merely on Al model.
B.Detecting women at high risk.
C.Reforming health care systems.
D.Launching public campaigns.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.Sex Gap in Heart Disease Treatment
B.AI Model for Female Heart Disease Risk
C.ECG Patterns in Cardiovascular Prediction
D.Traditional Neglect of Women's Heart Risk
