Refrigerator magnets(冰箱贴)are a hit in the
cultural tourism industry,especially among young
people, for their cultural significance and affordability.
Shen Ji,.a returnee(归国者)from Deqing,Huzhou,
has begun a journey to create such magnets, leaving her
job at a big company in Hangzhou to return to her
hometown of Moganshan.
Despite initial skepticism from her mother,Shen Ji,
a master's graduate from the University of Manchester
and former brand manager with a high salary, chose to
pursue her passion for refrigerator magnets. She is an
enthusiastic collector,having collected over 100
magnets from more than 20 countries during her time in
the UK.Moganshan offers a rich cultural backdrop for
her creative effort.
Shen Ji noticed a gap in the market for locally
designed refrigerator magnets in Moganshan and decided
to fill it.With a deep understanding of her hometown's
culture, she aimed to create magnets showing the mix of
Deging's culture and tourism.In 2018,she and her
husband,also a magnet enthusiast,began designing
magnets that appeal to young consumers and showcase
Deqing's regional features.
Lacking design expertise,Shen Ji relied on her
husband's artistic skills to bring her ideas to life. They
worked on designs at a local coffee shop, trying to
create magnets that are visually appealing and make
people think. One of their successful designs,"Just
Turn a Corner",was a big hit with bike riders in
Moganshan and sold all 1,000 in the first group.
However,the production process proved challenging,
with material and color variations affecting the final
product.Shen Ji and her team had to make constant
adjustments to meet their quality standards. In July,
they launched seven Moganshan-themed magnets,
selling 3,200 units so far.
Looking ahead,Shen Ji is preparing to expand her
product line,combining Deqing's landscapes and
cultural elements with modern design to create a series
of cultural and creative souvenirs.Though new challenges
await, she remains confident in her ability to succeed.

In the lively borough(行政区)of Queens,New

neighborhoods on Earth.Spanish,Bengali,Punjabi,

haven't faded over long distances. You feel it in some
stores along Diversity Plaza, where people line up to
send money and packages to relatives back home,
relatives they haven't seen in years and might not ever
see again.
And you certainly feel it when you step into the
