He has caught a lot of fish in his days, but when he caught his first buffalo fish (水牛鱼) in Arizona’s Apache Lake in 2019, he had a feeling that something was special about it. “I didn’t even know why at the time,” Black said. The fish was about 6 kg. It wasn’t the biggest fish he had caught. Still, he thought it was different. It turned out that Black was right. Scientists recently made sure that most of the buffalo fish swimming in this lake are older than a hundred. The finding builds on other recent studies about buffalo fish. These studies changed people’s mind about the fish. Scientists once believed buffalo fish could only live into their mid-20s. However, a 2019 study showed that a kind of buffalo fish called the bigmouth buffalo fish could live up to 112 years old. And last January, people found a 127-year-old bigmouth buffalo in Canada. Now, scientists found that two more buffalo fish species (种) — the smallmouth buffalo and the black buffalo—can live more than a hundred years. What’s more, scientists discovered that buffalo fish get healthier as they get older. Many living things become less healthy as they get older. But buffalo fish are so different. They even live their best lives into their 80s and 90s. How interesting! 29. Scientists have found that ________ kinds of buffalo fish can live more than a century so far. A. 3 B. 112 C. 127 30. Now, scientists found that two more buffalo fish species—the smallmouth buffalo and the black buffalo—can live more than a hundred years.”,目前科学家已经发现大口水牛鱼、小口水牛鱼、黑水牛共3种水牛鱼可以活超过100年。 C Do you ever feel like your thoughts are going around in circles? One minute, you’re thinking about your homework. The next minute, you’re thinking about your plans for the weekend. Is it possible for us to slow down our thoughts or even stop them completely? It depends on your definition (定义) of “thinking”, according to Michael Halassa, a researcher at MIT, US. We basically go through each day in one of two states-we either realize that we’re thinking or we don’t. Our brains won’t stop thinking completely until we die. “The brain never actually stops thinking in a broader sense. Most thoughts are actually in the background (后台) without us noticing them and there’s not really a way to turn these things off.” Halassa said. Human brains can unconsciously process (无意识地处理) about 11 million pieces of information per second, according to Forbes. You can compare this to how a computer works. Even when you aren’t using your computer while it’s turned on, it is still running operations “in the background”. Your computer, much like your brain, is constantly “thinking”, even if you’re not actively using it. Some researchers have referred to this as “thought-chatter”. It describes the random (胡乱的) thoughts that come in and out of our mind very quickly at different times during the day, according to Steve Taylor, a psychology lecturer. Some thought-chatter can be enjoyable, such as daydreaming. Albert Einstein came up with his famous theory of relativity (相对论) while daydreaming at work. But too much thought-chatter can make us feel too anxious or worried, Taylor said. Meditation (冥想) can help us clean up some of this thought-chatter. 32. What happens to you when “your thoughts are going around in circles”? A. You cannot stop thinking about past events. B. You are thinking about one thing repeatedly. C. You are thinking about one thing after another. 33. What does Paragraph 4 try to prove (证明)? A. Human brains are thinking all the time. B. Computer can think like a human brain. C. Human brains work faster than computers. 34. What do we know about thought-chatter? A. It can make us smarter. B. Meditation can make it less. C. It refers to the background noises we hear. 35. Which of the following can be the best title for this passage? A. How to think actively. B. Busy working human brains C. Differences between human brains and computers. 【答案】32. C 33. A 34. B 35. B 【解析】 【导语】本文主要讲述了人类大脑无时无刻不在思考的特点,介绍了“思绪乱转”“思维絮语”等相关概念,并说明了冥想对梳理思绪的作用。 【32题详解】 第一段指出“Do you ever feel like your thoughts are going around in circles? One minute, you’re thinking about your homework. The next minute, you’re thinking about your plans for the weekend.”,当“思绪绕圈”时,你会一件事接着一件事地想,思绪不停切换。 【33题详解】 第四段用电脑后台运行作类比,说明“Your computer, much like your brain, is constantly ‘thinking’, even if you’re not actively using it.”,核心是证明人类大脑始终在思考,哪怕我们没有主动使用它。 【34题详解】 最后一段指出“But too much thought-chatter can make us feel too anxious or worried, Taylor said. Meditation can help us clean up some of this thought-chatter.”,冥想可以帮助减少思维絮语。 【35题详解】 全文围绕“人类大脑无时无刻不在思考”展开,介绍了大脑的后台思维、思维絮语等内容,核心是说明人类大脑始终处于忙碌工作的状态。 第二节:阅读填空(共5小题;每小题1分, 满分5分) In China, safety education (教育) is becoming more and more important now. A. 3 B. 112 C. 127 30.
