Compared to many island destinations, the Azores aren’t touristy, noisy, or polluted. Instead, travelers can expect to discover untouched nature, beautiful landscapes, and charming villages with rich cultural traditions. Must-See Attractions The Azores are an excellent spot for hiking, diving (潜水), fishing, and whale watching. Some of the top outdoor sights to see include the caldera (破火山口) of Lake Furnas, and Pico Island, where you can climb the tallest mountain in Portugal. São Miguel Island is the biggest and most populous island, and there are lots of historic homes, restaurants, hotels, and shops here. If You Have Time Although São Miguel is the most popular place to visit and stay, the other islands of the Azores are certainly worth a visit as well. The most southern island of Santa Maria has great beaches. Try to visit the port of Angra on the island of Terceira, which is a World Heritage Site. Head to the most westerly island of Flores to see the pretty coast lined with wildflowers and sheep. Transportation Most travelers will arrive in the Azores by plane through the Ponta Delgada Airport, and although each island has its own airport, flights often take off only once daily. The best way to get around the Azores is by car, and there are some really beautiful drives to experience here. Buses operate around the islands, but service can be limited and not operational on Sundays and holidays. Cycling should only be attempted if you are in great shape because the land is rugged and steep It’s especially enjoyable to take a boat to get from island to island, since most towns have ports and are along the coastline. 1. What is one of the features of the Azores? A. The oldest homes. B. The remotest airport. C. The untouched nature. D. The steep-sided volcanoes. 2. Which island is the furthest west? A. Flores Island. B. Terceira Island. C. São Miguel Island. D. Santa Maria Island. 3. What would probably be the least recommended way to tour the Azores on weekdays? A. By car. B. By bus. C. By boat. D. By bike. C 2. A 3. 根据第一段Overview标题下“Instead, travelers can expect to discover untouched nature, beautiful landscapes, and charming villages with rich cultural traditions.(相反,游客可以期待发现原始的自然,美丽的风景,和富有文化传统的迷人村庄)”可知,Azores的特点之一是未被触及的自然。 根据第三段If You Have Time标题下“Head to the most westerly island of Flores to see the pretty coast lined with wildflowers and sheep.(前往最西端的弗洛雷斯岛,欣赏美丽的海岸,到处都是野花和羊群)”可知,Flores island在最西边,故选A。 根据最后一段Transportation标题下“Cycling should only be attempted if you are in great shape because the land is rugged and steep (崎岖陡峭的).(只有在身体状况良好的情况下才可以尝试骑自行车,因为地形崎岖陡峭)”可知,最不推荐的出行方式骑自行车。故选D。 B When I started playing soccer as a kid, I just fell in love with it. I wanted to be a soccer player when I grew up. But when I was nine, I started losing my eyesight. At first, I told myself, “If I just work harder than everyone else, I can still compete.” However, my perseverance (坚持) wasn’t going to be realistic. And because I kept pushing, my mental health started to worsen. I developed an eating disorder and depression (抑郁症). When I hit rock bottom in high school, I started to understand that I couldn’t just keep going down that path of trying to achieve something that wasn’t possible. My older brother got me started on the right path after I hit rock bottom. He encouraged me to try swimming. The freedom of being in the water had a calming effect on me: It gave me a place where I could feel confident again. I was able to move from the dream of playing soccer to sports that I could do, like swimming, track and field, and cross-country. Naturally, that combination led to triathlon In my senior year, I signed up for my first triathlon. By that point, while I still had some eyesight, I was legally blind. My parents biked and ran the course with me the night before, which helped me learn and remember key landmarks. That first race was great. Most importantly, that race opened a new door in sports and in life for me. When I went to Michigan State for college, I started the triathlon team there. That gave me another network of support, and surrounded me with people to train with and work with. None of that would have happened if I had continued to play soccer. Sometimes you have to change the path you thought you’d be on, but you can still persevere on that new path. 4. What brought the author’s soccer dream to an end? A. His failing eyesight. B. His poor eating habits. C. His insufficient training. D. His lack of competitive spirit. 5. What effect did swimming have on the author? A. It changed his views on health. B. It made him feel free and confident. C. It helped him become a professional athlete. D. It led to his dream of being a triathlon coach. 6. Why does the author stress the significance of his first triathlon? A. It improved his memory. B. It made his family closer. C. It broadened his path of life. D. It opened his door to college. 7. What is the main idea of the text? A. Perseverance leads to success. B. When one door closes, another opens. C. Never put all your eggs in one basket. D. The only true failure is the failure to try. A 5. B 6. C 7. 根据文章第一段“But when I was nine, I started losing my eyesight. At first, I told myself, “If I just work harder than everyone else, I can still compete.” However, my perseverance (坚持) wasn’t going to be realistic. And because I kept pushing, my mental health started to worsen. I developed an eating disorder and depression (抑郁症).”(但当我九岁的时候,我开始失明。起初,我告诉自己,“如果我比其他人更努力,我仍然可以参加比赛。”然而,我的坚持并不现实。因为我一直在努力,但我的心理健康状况开始恶化。我患上了饮食失调和抑郁症。)可知,是作者的视力问题导致他无法继续他的足球梦想。故选A。 根据文章第三段“The freedom of being in the water had a calming effect on me: It gave me a place where I could feel confident again.”(在水中的自由给我带来了平静的效果:它给了我一个可以再次感到自信的地方。) 根据文章第五段“That first race was great. Most importantly, that race opened a new door in sports and in life for me. B。 C As humanity has got richer, animals’ roles have changed. People need their services less than before. Fewer wolves and thieves meant less demand for dogs for protection; the internal combustion engine (内燃机) made horses unneeded; modern sanitation (卫生设备) kept rats in check and made cats less useful. Domestic animals are no longer necessities, but commonly seen companions. Pet-keeping seems to become more and more popular, as a recent survey found that 69% of American households keep at least one pet. The pet business is growing even faster than pet numbers, because people are spending more and more money on them. No longer are they food-waste-recyclers, fed with the remains that fall from their masters’ tables. Pet food shelves are full of cuisines tailored to satisfy a range of appetites, including ice cream for dogs and foods for pets that are old, diabetic, or suffer from sensitive digestion. In the business, this is called “pet humanization” — the tendency of pet owners to treat their pets as part of the family. This is obvious in the names given to dogs, which have evolved from Fido, Rex, and Spot to Bella, Lucy, and Max. People still hold the false assumption that pets must be working for humanity in some way, perhaps making people healthier or less anxious. But the evidence for that is weak. New research suggests that dogs have evolved those “cute eyes” to affect human emotions and control them, which works very well. Humans now work very hard to pay for the care of their pets. For example, Americans often refer to themselves not as cat owners but as the cat’s “mommy” or “daddy”. South Koreans go one step further, describing themselves as cat “butlers (管家)”. Watch an unlucky man walking his dog, plastic bag in hand to pick up its mess, and we have to ask: “who’s in charge now? Is this relationship what we really want?” 8. What can we learn about the animal-keeping trend? A. People’s needs for animal services are increasing. B. The price for purchasing a domestic pet is on the rise. C. Pet foods are less various and customized than before. D. Both the pet number and the pet business are growing. 9. Which of the following is the evidence of “pet humanization”? A. Pets’ ability to make their owners less anxious. B. Human’s increasing investment in pet-keeping. C. Pet’s roles as both working staff and companions. D. The owners’ preference to give pets human names. 10. What is the author’s attitude towards the current human-pet relationship? A. Doubtful. B. Indifferent. C. Unclear. D. Positive. 11. Which might be the best title of the passage? A. The Changing Roles of Pets B. The Growing Trend of Pet Business C. The Craze for Pet-keeping D. The Pros and Cons of Keeping Pets 【答案】8. D 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“The pet business is growing even faster than pet numbers, because people are spending more and more money on them.(宠物生意比宠物数量增长更快,因为人们在宠物身上花的钱越来越多)”可知,宠物的数量增长的很快,但是宠物经济发展更迅速,说明二者都在迅速发展,故选D项。 根据第三段“This is obvious in the names given to dogs, which have evolved from Fido, Rex, and Spot to Bella, Lucy, and Max.(这一点从人们给狗起的名字中就可以明显地看出来,它们的名字已经从菲多、雷克斯、点点演变成了贝拉、露西和马克斯)”可知,狗的名字从动物化的名字转为人类的名字,说明人们开始把他们当作家人看待,也就是“宠物人文化”的证据,故选D项。 根据最后一段“Is this relationship what we really want?(这样的关系是我们真正想要的吗?)” D As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states, if we are to avoid a world that is too hot to live in, we need to do everything we possibly can, right now, to cut greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. The fashion industry (时装行业) contributes up to 10% of global emissions — more than international aviation (航空) and shipping combined. It also contributes to biodiversity loss, pollution, landfill issues unsafe work practices and more. It’s not the first time that people have adapted their clothing in response to the demands of a crisis. During the second world war, clothing styles changed in the United Kingdom and Australia. To protect precious resources, shorter skirts, minimal detailing and a focus on practicability became the norm. In our current context, the most helpful thing we can do is to buy fewer new clothes, wear them for longer and restrain our desire. Australians buy a lot of clothes, about 56 items per year on average. That makes Australians the second highest textiles consumers in the world after the USA. The price of clothes has dropped significantly over the past couple of decades, and the number of clothes people have in their closets has grown. The Berlin-based Hot or Cool Institute suggests a wardrobe (衣柜) of 74 garments ( including shoes but excluding undergarments) is typically sufficient for people who live in a two-season climate (in the tropics) and 85 pieces for those who live in a four-season climate, as most Australians do. If we buy 10 to 12 new items a year, we can replace our entire wardrobe in about seven years. If we do care about sustainable (可持续的) development, that means changing those choices that are no longer suited to the climate crisis. Clothes need to reflect a person’s situation as well as their identity to “work” well. This may mean that what we wear changes as we make different buying decisions, just as people did in the second world war. We may start to look different, but that change means our values in action. 12. What does the author stress in the first paragraph? A. The consequences of greenhouse effect. B. The importance of reducing carbon footprint. C. The problems caused by the fashion industry. D. The necessity of developing the fashion industry. 13. What does the underlined word “restrain” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Satisfy. B. Express. C. Control. D. Abandon. 14. What does the Berlin-based Hot or Cool Institute’s suggestion focus on? A. Limiting the number of our clothes. B. Reducing the production of clothes. C. Increasing the number of our clothes. D. Replacing our wardrobe when necessary. 15. Which of the following would be the most suitable title for the text? A. Shop Sensibly and Dress Properly B. Wear Wisely and Live Sustainably C. How Many Clothes Should We Buy Every Year D. What Should We Wear to Cut Greenhouse Gases 【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段最后两句“The fashion industry (时装行业) contributes up to 10% of global emissions — more than international aviation (航空) and shipping combined. It also contributes to biodiversity loss, pollution, landfill issues unsafe work practices and more.(时装业的排放量占全球排放量的10%,超过了国际航空和航运的总和。它还导致生物多样性丧失、污染、垃圾填埋问题、不安全的工作做法等。)”可知,作者在第一段中强调了时装行业带来的问题。故选C。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“buy fewer new clothes, wear them for longer(少买新衣服,穿久一点)”可知,此处是指克制我们的欲望,所以restrain与“控制(Control)”同义。 根据第五段“The Berlin-based Hot or Cool Institute suggests a wardrobe (衣柜) of 74 garments ( including shoes but excluding undergarments) is typically sufficient for people who live in a two-season climate (in the tropics) and 85 pieces for those who live in a four-season climate, as most Australians do. If we buy 10 to 12 new items a year, we can replace our entire wardrobe in about seven years.(总部位于柏林的冷热研究所建议,对于生活在两季气候(热带地区)的人来说,衣柜里74件衣服(包括鞋子,但不包括内衣)通常就足够了;对于生活在四季气候(大多数澳大利亚人)的人来说,衣柜里85件衣服就足够了。如果我们每年买10到12件新衣服,我们可以在大约7年内更换我们的整个衣柜。)”可知,总部位于柏林的冷热研究所的建议侧重于限制衣服的数量。故选A。 根据最后一段“If we do care about sustainable (可持续的) development, that means changing those choices that are no longer suited to the climate crisis. Clothes need to reflect a person’s situation as well as their identity to “work” well. This may mean that what we wear changes as we make different buying decisions, just as people did in the second world war. We may start to look different, but that change means our values in action.(如果我们真的关心可持续发展,那就意味着要改变那些不再适合气候危机的选择。 When something goes wrong, do you tend to bounce back or fall apart? When you have resilience (恢复力), you have the inner strength that helps you rebound from a setback or challenge.(当事情出错时,你是倾向于反弹还是崩溃? Less than 20 percent of people successfully achieve their goal the first time around. It’s normal and expected for setbacks to occur(意识到这很正常。 出现挫折是正常的,也是意料之中的)”以及后文“Knowing this, it’s important to anticipate that the main task will be how to effectively manage the setback when it arises.(知道了这一点,重要的是要预见到,当挫折出现时,主要任务是如何有效地管理挫折)”可知,上文提到了发生挫折很正常,后文提到了预见挫折。 【18题详解】 根据上文“Learn from the past.(汲取过去的经验教训)”以及后文“Think about what has helped you through tough times. Do activities and hobbies you enjoy. Include physical activity in your daily routine. Get plenty of sleep and make bedtime rituals. Eat a healthy diet. Practice how to manage stress. Try ways to relax, such as yoga, meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing or prayer.(关注自己的需求和感受。 Don’t ignore your problems.(采取行动。 “What’s it like to have a gap (缝) between your teeth?” a girl asked me one day. Before this summer holiday, their school was to hold the annual “School Play”, wanting a whole set of actors. That was their luck. “I’d like to play a role in the show.” Molly told herself. After reading the notice, she learned that the play was named Rapunzel, who was a magic princess. Another leading role was an evil witch (女巫) stealing Rapunzel to keep herself young forever. Immediately, Molly and Maye were both attracted by the role of princess. Apart from them, there were about twenty other girls interested in this role as well. So an audition (试镜) would be needed to choose the most suitable one. “Do you really want to play the princess, Maye?” they walked home, arm in arm. “Yes, a little. And you?” Maye replied. Long silence... Several weeks before the audition, they practiced and practiced. With time speeding by, Molly’s confidence grew and she felt happy with her acting. The morning of the audition arrived at last. Unbelievable! So many students crowded into the school hall to appreciate and witness the moment. Nervous though Molly was, she took a deep breath and recalled what she had practiced. During the audition, she tried her best to present her best self, and she was sure that she could make it. After an anxiety-filled hour, the result of the audition came out. Molly didn’t even dare to check the result in person. Standing outside the crowd, she heard someone shouting, “Maye is the princess!” What was worse, Molly was shocked to learn that she was given the role of “witch”! Molly rushed home and burst out crying when her mother came. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few days later, the big day for the play arrived. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Molly rushed home and burst out crying when her mother came. After her mom knew about everything, she smiled, “Dear, why not try your best to make witch impressed? Maybe you are the best.” Molly jerked up her head as if awake from a dream. She kissed her mother in gratitude and got ready immediately. She carefully analyzed the witch’s personality traits, body language, consulted professionals, and looked up information about the relevant characters. As she learned more, her confidence grew gradually. A few days later, the big day for the play arrived. The performance was a great success. Molly’s performance as the witch was as impressive as Maye’s as the princess, and the applause from the audience continued, which made Molly cry with joy. And her friend Maye also hugged her deeply and whispered, “If I had played a witch, I might not be as good as you.” Molly also understands a truth: no matter what role you play, as long as it is taken seriously, it will make people impressed. 词类激活 行为类 ①抬头:jerked up one’s head/raise one’s head ②查阅:look up/consult/refer to ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①笑:smile/laugh/giggle/grin ②哭:cry/burst into tears/weep/sob ③高兴:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】【高分句型1】As she learned more, her confidence grew gradually. A. By car. B. By bus. C. By boat. D. By bike. B When I started playing soccer as a kid, I just fell in love with it. C As humanity has got richer, animals’ roles have changed. The Pros and Cons of Keeping Pets D As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states, if we are to avoid a world that is too hot to live in, we need to do everything we possibly can, right now, to cut greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. A. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
