C Different cultures have various festivals, but the joy and eagerness are the same. For us adults, celebrations are a way of taking a break from heavy work, re-live past memories, and keeping traditions alive, but what about children? Well, for our kids, this is the perfect time to learn and enrich their líves with knowledge. At festivals, I remember, I introduced the value and importance of personal connections and cultural treasure to my kids while they were having fun. Child experts strongly suggest that parents tell their kids various rituals (仪式) of the festivals and have them join in celebratory activities. I think every festival has a rich backstory, and every story has plenty of lessons and values to teach. Besides, historical and geographical background connected with festivals give reasons why we celebrate festivals with specific rituals. Kids need to have a deep-rooted understanding of the identity (身份) of their culture and traditions. Because this not only helps in developing a positive sense of identity but also pushes kids to connect with their cultures through rituals, native decorations, food, etc., to keep continuity over generations. Thus, parents should make kids a central part of all festivals. It is no secret that gifts bring joy and excitement to children. Every time I give gifts to my kids, I find the gifts excite their senses and make them feel valued. I must make my kids believe that their families care about their interests and desires. Thus, gifting is a meaningful way to express feelings to kids. What’s more, the act of giving and receiving gifts helps develop feelings of care and kindness. 8. What do festivals mean for children? A. A perfect time to have a rest. B. A chance to increase knowledge. C. A memory of their old days. D. An effort to protect traditions. 9. Why should kids be “a central part of all festivals”? A. They enjoy festival backstories. B. They love history and geography. C. They must know who they are. D. They can bring much happiness. 10. Who are the intended readers of the text? A. Kids. B. Teachers. C. Headmasters. D. Parents. 11. What is a suitable title of the passage? A. Importance of Festivals in Kids’ Life B. Parents' Role in Celebrating Festivals C. Benefits of Festival Rituals to Kids D. Principles of Kids' Love for Festivals D While teenagers who are at risk of depression with risky behaviors — drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and cutting classes often alert parents and teachers that serious problems are brewing, a new study finds that there’s another group of adolescents who are in nearly as much danger of experiencing the same mental symptoms. These teens use tons of media, get insufficient sleep and have a sedentary (不爱活动的) lifestyle. Of course, that may sound like a description of every teenager on the planet. But the study warns that it is teenagers who engage in all three of these practices in the extreme that are truly in a dangerous position. Because their behaviors are not usually seen as a red flag, these young people have been called the “invisible risk”group by the study’s authors. The study’s authors surveyed 15,395 students and analyzed nine risk behaviors, including excessive alcohol use, illegal drug use, heavy smoking and high media use. Their aim was to determine the relationship between these risk behaviors and mental health issues in teenagers. The group that scored high on all nine of the risk behaviors was most likely to show symptoms of depression; in all, nearly 15% of this group reported being depressed, compared with just 4% of the low-risk group. But the invisible group wasn’t far behind the high-risk set, with more than 13% of them exhibiting depression. The findings caught Carli off guard. “We didn’t expect that,” he says. “The high-risk group and low-risk group are obvious, but this third group was not only unexpected. It was so distinct and so large — nearly one third of our sample — that it became a key finding of the study.” Carli says that one of the most significant things about his study is that it provides new early warning signs for parents, teachers and mental health-care providers. And early identification, support and treatment for mental health issues, he says, are the best ways to keep them from turning into full-blown disorders. 12. Which teenager probably belongs to the “invisible risk” group? A. A teenager who skips school. B. A teenager who drinks frequently. C. A teenager who exercises regularly. D. A teenager who suffers from lack of sleep. 13. What can we know about the new study? A. It was intended to dig into the reasons for depression. B. Its findings were under expectation of the research team. C. It was conducted by analyzing and comparing the previous data. D. It revealed an alarming rate of the invisible group suffering depression. 14. What is Carli’s attitude toward the findings? A. Unclear. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent. 15. What is the author’s intention of writing this passage? A. To caution teens against developing unhealthy habit. B. To share a novel psychological experiment with teens. C. To introduce a new treatment for teens’ mental disorder. D. To warn about the unobserved signs for teens’ mental problems. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 While most of us work hard to shine at the presentations and speeches we can prepare for, we may find impromptu (即兴的) communication scary. This year it was Sara’s father’s turn to hang colorful lights all round their roof according to family tradition. On New Year’s Eve, light enveloped the whole house. Everything seemed to be going fine until misfortune happened: Sara’s father passed away suddenly. Sara was very sad. However, seeing the hanging lights, she was in a state of feeling happy, gaining a tiny thread of relief. The lights reminded her of her beloved father. Taking them down meant the final connection with her father would disappear, which she wasn’t ready to accept. So she kept them. One day in March, Sara received a typed note in the mail. “Take your New Year’s lights down!” The letter read, which made Sara angry. She couldn’t hold back her anger, and shared it with her story online. Messages of support flooded into Sara’s inbox quickly. Besides, one day, Sara was driving back home and surprised to find that New Year’s decorations reappeared on houses in her neighborhood —her neighbors had made a collective (共同的) decision to hang their lights back up in honor of her father!
