II. Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warm-up & Lead-in (5 minutes) 1. Greeting: Greet students in English and have an interactive talk about growing up. Teacher: Good morning, class! How are you today? As you grow older, you may have some worries or conflicts with your parents, right? For example, your parents may ask you to study hard, but you want to have more free time. Do you have such experiences? (Invite 2-3 students to share their own experiences briefly.) 2. Lead-in: Introduce the topic of the lesson and the text. Teacher: Today, we will read a text called "You Just Don’t Get Me". It tells a story about a teenager’s conflicts with his/her parents, which is a common "growing pain" for many of us. Let’s read the text and find out what happened to him/her, and how he/she felt. Together, we will explore the pains and gains in growing up. Step 2: Pre-reading (6 minutes) 1 Present new words and phrases: Show the new words and phrases on the PPT, read them aloud, explain their meanings briefly, and combine them with simple sentences or scenes related to teenagers’ life to help students understand. Key words and phrases: pain (n. 痛苦), gain (n. 收获), misunderstand (v. 误解), argue (v. 争吵), communicate (v. 交流), pressure (n. 压力), trust (v. & n. 信任), support (v. & n. 支持), get along with (与……相处), be tired of (厌倦……), take care of (照顾), worry about (担心), express (v. 表达)Example sentences: 1. Many teenagers have growing pains when they communicate with their parents. 2. I often argue with my parents about my homework. 3. We should communicate with our parents more to avoid misunderstanding. 4. Through these experiences, I get a lot of gains. 2 Predict the text: Ask students to look at the title "You Just Don’t Get Me" and the picture (if any), and predict the content of the text. Teacher: Look at the title "You Just Don’t Get Me". Who may say this sentence? To whom? What do you think the conflict is between them? Please discuss with your deskmate and share your predictions. Step 3: While-reading (18 minutes) Task 1: Fast reading — Get the main idea (5 minutes) Ask students to read the text carefully and fill in the table about the speaker’s conflicts with parents, feelings and hopes. (Hand out worksheets with the table.) Task 2: Careful reading — Extract key details (8 minutes) Ask students to read the text again and discuss the following questions in pairs: 1. What are the "growing pains" mentioned in the text? (Misunderstanding between teenagers and parents, pressure from study, lack of communication, not being trusted.) 2. What may be the "gains" if the speaker solves the conflicts with parents? (Better communication, mutual trust, understanding between each other, growth and maturity.) Task 3: Deep reading — Explore "growing pains and gains" (5 minutes) Step 4: Post-reading (12 minutes) 1. Ask students to read the text quickly (within 2 minutes) and answer the following questions: 1 Who is the speaker in the text? (A teenager.) 2 Who does the speaker talk to? (His/Her parents.) 3 What is the main idea of the text? (The speaker talks about his/her conflicts with parents, expresses his/her feelings of being misunderstood, and hopes to communicate with parents better.) 2. Check the answers: Invite students to share their answers, and summarize the main idea together. Emphasize that the text mainly shows the "growing pain" of misunderstanding between teenagers and parents, and the desire for effective communication. Step 5: Summary ( 2minutes) 1 Share and summarize: Invite several pairs to share their opinions. Summarize that growing pains are inevitable, but through communication and understanding, we can turn these pains into gains—learning to express ourselves, understanding others and growing up. This is also the theme of the text and the unit. 2 Summary of key language points: Review the key words, phrases and sentence patterns learned from the text, and ask students to make sentences with them to consolidate their memory. Step 6: Homework (2 minutes) 1 Read the text "You Just Don’t Get Me" aloud 3 times and recite the key sentences. 2 Write a short passage (60-80 words) about your own growing pain and how you solve it (or how you want to solve it), using the key words and sentence patterns learned today. 3 Talk with your parents about your feelings and try to communicate with them in a proper way. Write down one thing you learned from the communication. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
