Lead-in
Look and Say
1. Present some pictures about corals and coral reefs. Ask students some related questions.
2. Invite some students to share answers and pre-teach the new words“coral”“reef”and
“snorkel”during the process.
3. Play a video to introduce the coral reefs so that students can have a better understanding.
4. Ask students where the most beautiful coral reefs are in the world and present some
beautiful photos of the Great Barrier Reef to lead in the topic.
Free Talk

2. Play a video to introduce the Great Barrier Reef to help students get the answers.
Pre-writing

1. Have students look at the title and pictures in 3a and infer what type of writing it is or
what the writing is for.
2. Have students read the advertisement quickly and summarize the main idea of each paragraph.
3. Have students read the advertisement again and circle the numbers and underline the
adjectives used to describe the Great Barrier Reef. Guide students to analyze the function of these numbers and adjectives.
4. Guide students to analyze how the writer leads into the topic in the first paragraph.
5. Have students summarize the elements of a persuasive advertisement.

1. Have students read the notes on Qinghai Lake and rewrite these notes in full sentences.
2. Invite some students to share their sentences in class. The teacher and other students
give feedback. The teacher can encourage students to add more details or activities.

Have students write an advertisement for Qinghai Lake or another natural wonder. Remind them
to use the tips they have summarized to make the advertisement persuasive.

Teaching Reflection
The lesson went smoothly,with clear steps from analysing the Great BarrierReef ad to writing about natural wonders. Students actively participated in all the tasks. However,some struggled with linking facts to feelings. Next time,I'll provide more examples of combining numbers with emotional language.
