· Can you name the sport in the photo?

· Do you think playing basketball is a good way to keep fit?
· What sports items do you need to play basketball?
Pre-listening

1. Show students some pictures of different sports and ask them:What are these sports?(running,ping-pong,yoga,tennis,jump rope,baseball)
2. Ask students to read the words in the box and write the sports items under the pictures.
3. Have students peer check the answers.
Pair Work
Let students work with a partner,and then choose one sport and talk about the equipment they need for it.

Have students look at the exercises in 1b and answer the questions:

Exercise 1
1. Have students read the words in each column and pay attention to the pronunciation of
the letters or letter combinations in bold.
2. Ask students to listen and repeat after the recording. Then explain the key points of
pronouncing these sounds.
Teaching Tip:Use videos or mouth movement diagrams to demonstrate the pronunciation of these key sounds if needed.
3.Encourage some students to read these sounds and words in class so that the teacher can find some possible problems or mistakes. The teacher gives correct demonstrations and makes them practise the pronunciation more.
4. Brainstorm more words to add to each group.

Teaching Reflection
The lesson went smoothly overall. Students actively participated in pair work and pronunciation practice, and especially showed great interest in talking about their own sports items. However, some students still struggled with the pronunciation of “ie”and the flexible use of “how often”questions. In the next class,I will design more targeted drills to help them master these points better.
