Their responses offer valuable insight into the conditions and experiences that develop genuine engagement with writing (see Figure 1). The findings indicate that cultivating (培养) environments that prioritise freedom of choice, personal and social relevance, and meaningful engagement may be instrumental in enhancing young people’s motivation to write in school. Figure 1: Key factors that would stimulate a desire to write in school. Figure 2: A word cloud of students topic preferences for writing. When asked what they would most like to write about in school if they could choose, young writers suggested a wide range of topics. A word cloud visualizes their preferences, where the size of each word corresponds to its frequency in the responses (see Figure 2). Our interviews with students also reveal that they are most motivated when writing allows them to explore both the world around them and the worlds they imagine. Overall, our research highlights that writing in school is most meaningful when it is rooted in connection to self, to others and to the world, and experienced in its power to engage, bring power, inspire thought and shape identity. As a result, it is suggested that school-based writing should not be only about producing perfect texts but about cultivating young writers who are invested, confident, curious and socially connected. 1.What is most likely to motivate students to write? A.Rewards. B.Autonomy. C.Interest. D.Experiences. 2.Which of the following would students probably prefer to write about? A.A famous song. B.A fashion trend. C.A past civilization. D.A personal interview. 3.Who is the passage most probably intended for? A.Policy makers. B.Young writers        . C.Lab researchers. D.School educators. B (25-26高三上·上海徐汇·月考) Ladies and gentlemen, I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work — a life’s work in the agony (痛苦) and sweat of the human spirit. But I would like to use this moment as a climax from which I might be listened to by the young men and women already dedicated to the same agony and sweat, among whom is already that one who will someday stand here where I am standing. Our tragedy today is a general and universal physical fear so long sustained by now that we can even bear it. Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat. He, the writer, must learn them again. He must teach himself that the worst of all things is to be afraid; and, teaching himself that, forget it forever, leaving no room in his workshop for anything but the old truths of the heart-the old universal truths lacking which any story is short-lived and doomed-love and honor and pity and pride and sympathy and sacrifice. Until he does so, he labors under a curse. He writes not of love but of desire, of defeats in which nobody loses anything of value, of victories without hope and, worst of all, without pity or sympathy. His griefs move on no universal bones, leaving no scars. He writes not of the heart but of the glands (腺体). Until he relearns these things, he will write as though he stood among and watched the end of man. I decline to accept the end of man. It is easy enough to say that man is immortal simply because he will endure. I refuse to accept this. I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a spirit capable of sympathy and sacrifice and endurance. The poet’s, the writer’s, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and sympathy and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet’s voice need not merely be the record of man; it can be one of the pillars to help him endure and prevail. 4.What does the word “that” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.The agony and sweat of the human spirit. B.The general and universal physical fear. C.The long-term sustenance of our tragedy. D.The human heart in conflict with itself. 5.Why are the old truths of the heart so important? A.Because they are love, honor, pity, pride, sympathy and sacrifice. B.Because they prolong a writer’s life and protect him from curses. C.Because they are the soul of a real and powerful piece of writing. D.Because they effectively stop the trend towards the end of man. 6.How can poets / writers help man endure and prevail? A.By using words to inspire man with his past glories. B.By watching immortal man endure endless voices. C.By observing man’s sympathy, sacrifice and endurance. D.By turning their privilege into artistic representations. 7.What does the speaker probably agree? A.The award was not fair because his life was too painful. B.Young writers are too afraid to feel pain and work hard. C.Good writing is about the struggles of the human heart. D.Writing about man’s soul illustrates his final prevalence. 七、七选五 (25-26高二上·山东济南·期末)Poetry has a unique way of capturing emotions, experiences, and ideas in a brief and often complex form. However, the beauty of a poem can sometimes be hidden behind its language, imagery, and structure. 8 By understanding the various poetry techniques and approaches to poem analysis, you can uncover the deeper meanings within a poem. The first step in poem analysis is to explore the poem’s context. This involves researching the poet’s background, the period in which the poem was written, and any relevant historical or social contexts. Knowing these factors can provide valuable insights into the poetic themes and the poet’s intentions. 9 Language and imagery are vital components of a poem, and they play a significant role in conveying its themes and emotions. When analyzing poetry, pay close attention to the choice of words and the types of imagery used. You can ask yourself: How does the language make you feel? 10 What particular atmosphere does the poet create by words and imagery? A crucial part of learning how to analyze poetry is identifying the figures of speech used in the poem. These are the tools poets use to create rhythm, enhance meaning, and bring out emotions. 11 Common ones include metaphor, simile, personification, and so on. Recognize these devices to understand better how the poet constructs their work to convey specific ideas and emotions. Finally, consider the poet’s intentions and how they influence the overall interpretation of the poem. 12 By reflecting on the poet’s purpose, you can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the poem’s significance and the techniques used to achieve it. A.It seems apparent at first glance. B.They are presented in many forms. C.Think about why the poet wrote the poem. D.What pictures does the poem paint in your mind? E.That’s where the art of analyzing poetry comes in. F.Should we identify the imagery to analyze the poem? G.For example, poems from wartime reflect themes of conflict. 八、完形填空 (2026·广西来宾·模拟预测)When I was in junior high school, I joined the school’s English club. A word cloud visualizes their preferences, where the size of each word corresponds to its frequency in the responses (see Figure 2). 根据最后一段“As a result, it is suggested that school-based writing should not be only about producing perfect texts but about cultivating young writers who are invested, confident, curious and socially connected. 根据划线词所在句“Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat.(正因为如此,如今的年轻作者们已经忘记了人类内心在自我冲突中的种种问题。 根据第三段“He must teach himself that the worst of all things is to be afraid; and, teaching himself that, forget it forever, leaving no room in his workshop for anything but the old truths of the heart-the old universal truths lacking which any story is short-lived and doomed-love and honor and pity and pride and sympathy and sacrifice.(他必须自己明白,最糟糕的事情莫过于心生恐惧;而且,一旦明白这一点,就永远忘掉它,让自己的创作空间里不再容许任何其他东西的存在,只留下内心那些永恒不变的真理——那些缺失了它们的故事注定会昙花一现、难以长久——那就是爱、荣誉、怜悯、骄傲、同情和牺牲)”可知,内心深处的那些古老真理如此重要是因为它们是一篇真正且富有感染力的作品的灵魂所在。故选C。 6. 根据最后一段“It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and sympathy and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past.(他有权帮助人们振作起来,通过鼓舞他们的精神,让他们想起自己过去的那些英勇、荣誉、希望、自豪、同情、怜悯和牺牲等美好品质,从而让他们重拾勇气,继续前行)”可知,诗人/作家通过用文字向人类讲述其过往的辉煌事迹来激励他们,从而帮助人类承受苦难并取得胜利。故选A。 7. 根据第二段“Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat.(正因为如此,如今的年轻作者们已经忘记了人类内心在自我冲突中的种种问题。 8.根据上文“Poetry has a unique way of capturing emotions, experiences, and ideas in a brief and often complex form. However, the beauty of a poem can sometimes be hidden behind its language, imagery, and structure.(诗歌有一种独特的方式,能够以简洁且往往复杂的形式捕捉情感、经历和思想。 9.根据上文“The first step in poem analysis is to explore the poem’s context. This involves researching the poet’s background, the period in which the poem was written, and any relevant historical or social contexts. Knowing these factors can provide valuable insights into the poetic themes and the poet’s intentions.(诗歌分析的第一步是探究诗歌的背景。 10.根据上文“Language and imagery are vital components of a poem, and they play a significant role in conveying its themes and emotions. When analyzing poetry, pay close attention to the choice of words and the types of imagery used. You can ask yourself: How does the language make you feel?(语言和意象是诗歌的重要组成部分,它们在传达诗歌的主题和情感方面起着重要作用。 11.根据上文“A crucial part of learning how to analyze poetry is identifying the figures of speech used in the poem. These are the tools poets use to create rhythm, enhance meaning, and bring out emotions.(学习如何分析诗歌的一个关键环节在于识别诗中所运用的修辞手法。这些修辞手法是诗人用来营造韵律、强化意义以及抒发情感的手段)”以及后文“Common ones include metaphor, simile, personification, and so on. 根据第三段“When asked what they would most like to write about in school if they could choose, young writers suggested a wide range of topics. A word cloud visualizes their preferences, where the size of each word corresponds to its frequency in the responses (see Figure 2). (当被问及如果可以选择的话,他们最想在学校里写些什么时,年轻的学生们提出了众多不同的主题。一个词云图能够直观地展示他们的偏好,其中每个单词的大小与其在回复中的出现频率成正比(见图 2))”可知,图中的history单词最大,所以学生可能更喜欢写历史这个话题,也就是“一个过去的文明”。故选C项。 3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“As a result, it is suggested that school-based writing should not be only about producing perfect texts but about cultivating young writers who are invested, confident, curious and socially connected. (因此,建议学校写作不应仅仅关注产出完美的文本,而应注重培养有投入感、自信、好奇且善于社交的年轻写作者)”可推知,文章是针对学校写作给出建议,其目标受众应该是学校教育工作者。故选D项。 B (25-26高三上·上海徐汇·月考) Ladies and gentlemen, I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work — a life’s work in the agony (痛苦) and sweat of the human spirit. 根据划线词所在句“Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat.(正因为如此,如今的年轻作者们已经忘记了人类内心在自我冲突中的种种问题。而正是这些冲突才使得作品具有价值,因为只有that(人类的心灵处于自我冲突之中)的内容才值得去书写,才值得付出艰辛的努力和情感的投入)”可知,故that指的是“人类的心灵处于自我冲突之中”。故选D。 5.细节理解题。根据第三段“He must teach himself that the worst of all things is to be afraid; and, teaching himself that, forget it forever, leaving no room in his workshop for anything but the old truths of the heart-the old universal truths lacking which any story is short-lived and doomed-love and honor and pity and pride and sympathy and sacrifice.(他必须自己明白,最糟糕的事情莫过于心生恐惧;而且,一旦明白这一点,就永远忘掉它,让自己的创作空间里不再容许任何其他东西的存在,只留下内心那些永恒不变的真理——那些缺失了它们的故事注定会昙花一现、难以长久——那就是爱、荣誉、怜悯、骄傲、同情和牺牲)”可知,内心深处的那些古老真理如此重要是因为它们是一篇真正且富有感染力的作品的灵魂所在。故选C。 6. 根据第二段“Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat.(正因为如此,如今的年轻作者们已经忘记了人类内心在自我冲突中的种种问题。而正是这些冲突才使得作品具有价值,因为只有这样的内容才值得去书写,才值得付出艰辛的努力和情感的投入)”可知,这位演讲者大概认同优秀的写作关乎人类心灵的挣扎。故选C。 七、七选五 (25-26高二上·山东济南·期末)Poetry has a unique way of capturing emotions, experiences, and ideas in a brief and often complex form. 8.根据上文“Poetry has a unique way of capturing emotions, experiences, and ideas in a brief and often complex form. Knowing these factors can provide valuable insights into the poetic themes and the poet’s intentions.(诗歌分析的第一步是探究诗歌的背景。这包括研究诗人的生平、诗歌创作的时期以及任何相关的历史或社会背景。了解这些因素能够为诗歌的主题和诗人的意图提供有价值的见解)”可知,本段核心是“分析诗歌要结合创作背景(诗人、时代、社会历史)”,前文讲背景的重要性,G选项“比如战争时期的诗歌反映冲突主题”用举例的方式具体说明“背景如何影响诗歌主题”,贴合段落主旨。故选G。 10.根据上文“Language and imagery are vital components of a poem, and they play a significant role in conveying its themes and emotions. When analyzing poetry, pay close attention to the choice of words and the types of imagery used. You can ask yourself: How does the language make you feel?(语言和意象是诗歌的重要组成部分,它们在传达诗歌的主题和情感方面起着重要作用。在分析诗歌时,要仔细留意所选用的词汇以及所运用的意象类型。你可以问问自己:这种语言让你有何感受?)”可知,本段聚焦“语言和意象的分析”,前文连续用设问(语言带来什么感受?),D选项“诗歌在你脑海中勾勒出怎样的画面?”与前文设问句式一致,且紧扣“imagery(意象)”的核心,问出意象的直观感受,后一句再追问意象营造的氛围,逻辑连贯。故选D。 11.根据上文“A crucial part of learning how to analyze poetry is identifying the figures of speech used in the poem. Recognize these devices to understand better how the poet constructs their work to convey specific ideas and emotions.(常见的修辞手法有比喻、明喻、拟人等。识别这些手法有助于更好地理解诗人是如何构建作品来传达特定的思想和情感的)”可知,本段讲“识别诗歌中的修辞手法”,前文说修辞是诗人的创作工具,后文列举比喻、明喻、拟人等具体修辞,B选项“它们有多种表现形式”中they指代前文的figures of speech,承上启下,衔接“修辞工具”和“具体修辞类型”。故选B。 12.根据上文“Finally, consider the poet’s intentions and how they influence the overall interpretation of the poem. (最后,要思考诗人的创作意图,并探究这些意图如何影响整首诗的解读)”以及后文“By reflecting on the poet’s purpose, you can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the poem’s significance and the techniques used to achieve it.(通过深入思考诗人的创作意图,你就能更全面地理解这首诗的意义以及其所运用的创作手法)”可知,本段核心是“考虑诗人的创作意图,理解诗歌整体内涵”,后文讲“反思创作目的能更全面理解诗歌”,C选项“思考诗人为何创作这首诗”直接点出“探究创作意图”的具体做法,why the poet wrote the poem与后文的the poet’s purpose形成直接呼应。故选C。 八、完形填空 (2026·广西来宾·模拟预测)When I was in junior high school, I joined the school’s English club.
