At the end of the study, the first group reported feeling less stressed and more energetic. Their depression scores dropped by 35% on average.
Why does food affect mood? One reason is that healthy food helps our body produce serotonin (血清素), a chemical that makes us feel good. Passage 10
阅读理解
Schools in China are studying how they can put VR (= virtual reality 虚拟现实) lessons into their classroom experience. One such lesson uses VR to teach children fire safety. Instead of pens and paper, students wear VR headsets in the classroom. They are put into a virtual environment where a fire has broken out. They must find their way out and escape carefully.
At the VR medical school under Sichuan University, a virtual system allows medical students to examine the human body in different ways. They can even separate organs for closer examination. Students can practice their operation skills without a real body.
Simon Leung, vice-chairman of a VR company, said the company has developed VR classrooms and computers that send students to a 360-degree digital world. Moreover, the VR headsets can tell whether children focus on the task at hand, Leung said.
Chinese parents, however, have a different opinion on VR lessons. They are suspicious of VR because they are unsure if the technology will have any bad effects. They are worried about their children’s eyesight, too.
Besides, VR equipment comes at a price. A top VR headset and computer could cost up to 10,000 yuan. “We need to do more to lower the cost and improve the user’s experience, ” said Huang Ronghuai, professor at the Smart Learning Institute under Beijing Normal University. “But we are sure that we will change the model of education in the future.”

Passage 11
Do you have a long list of hobbies that light you up but find it hard to balance (平衡) them all? You’re not alone! The real challenge isn’t having too many hobbies, but how you manage them. In this passage, we’ll share how to enjoy all your hobbies without tiring yourself.
Focus on what you enjoy now. It’s not easy to follow every hobby at the same time. * For example, this month you’re excited about photography, but next month, you might want to try cooking. By changing hobbies, you’ll stay interested and avoid feeling tired.
Set a flexible schedule (灵活的时间表). It helps you stay organized without pressure. You can create time blocks, such as one evening for drawing and another for guitar practice. Or you can combine your hobbies. For example, if you love being outdoors and photography, take your camera with you when you go out. By doing this, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Perfection (完美) is not necessary. When you have many interests, it’s easy to feel pressure to be good at all of them. However, hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable, not stressful! It’s okay to be “just okay” at some things—what matters most is that they bring you joy.
Hobbies are to make your life colorful. Just relax and have fun.

Passage 12
When it comes to warm-weather activities that are good for your health, you probably think of walking, hiking or running. But there’s another activity—gardening.
A busy day in the garden can be a good form of exercise. It is helpful for your physical health. People breathe deeper when they are outside. As people breathe deeper, the oxygen (氧气) level in their blood slowly increases, making them feel refreshed.
Spending time outdoors has been shown to help lift spirits and lower levels of stress (压力). After a working day in the hospital, I would spend an hour or so in my garden. I find that pulling weeds (杂草) can let me feel calm after a long day. It provides me with the chance to slow down, plan or work out a problem in my mind.
Gardening can also bring people together and make social connections stronger. The gardening community is rich with people willing to share their knowledge, time and sometimes plants with new gardeners. Many gardening friendships begin with celebrating a success or regretting a gardening mistake. The friendships that I’ve made have been the best gift that gardening has given me. During the spring, my friends and neighbors plan our vegetable gardens together. We discuss what works well or needs to be improved from last year. In summer, we share flowers with each other. In the fall, we host a big party to enjoy fruit and vegetables together. These activities improve the joy we get out of the garden and bring us closer together.
1. Which of the following shows the change of the blood oxygen level? (d= depth of breathing, b= blood oxygen level)

Passage 6
Do you know that eating certain foods can help improve your mood? Scientists have found that some foods can make people feel happier.
A study in the UK followed 200 people for six months. Half of them ate a “happy diet”—more fruits, vegetables, fish, and nuts. The other half ate their usual food. At the end of the study, the first group reported feeling less stressed and more energetic. Their depression scores dropped by 35% on average.
Why does food affect mood? One reason is that healthy food helps our body produce serotonin (血清素), a chemical that makes us feel good. For example, bananas, dark chocolate, and nuts are rich in nutrients that help produce serotonin. On the other hand, too much sugar and fried food can make us feel tired and sad.
